I will never forget when my Brother got Super Mario Bros. 3 for his birthday, we completely skipped the cake. We used to sneak down in the middle of the night just to play it. The Chain-chop was based off Shigeru Miyamoto's neighbors dog which terrified him as a kid. I went through the same thing walking home from my friends house at night!
I think my favorite enemy of SMB3 is the Paragoomba, just because I remember how mind-bending it was the first time I saw a goomba with wings and how uniquely they act, especially the light one that flies high up in the air and comes down for a landing and sometimes hovers over you out of range. I also really like the Kuribo's Goomba, and the Micro-Goombas who cling to you and sometimes make blocks come alive to attack you, Goombas in this game are pretty great in general. And there's Boom-Boom who looks like a gigachad Goomba, by the way did you ever notice the timpani sound at the end of each bar of the fortress theme that sounds like "boom boom," like it's saying the name of the boss.
hahah! i always heard it that way too... 🎵duh-dah-duuuuh, dahh-boom boom🎵 it probably was Boom Boom in the back of the fortress on percussion, he gets mad when Mario shows up and interupts his concerto.
Chain Chomp was created from a bad childhood memory of a neighbor's vicious chained dog however, breaking free is similar to the hammer Brothers in Mario 1
Fun fact about Boo. The creator of Boo had a wife that was very shy, and usual hid her face when she started to blush, and that gave him the inspiration to how a Boo acts. Also got a follow from me. 👍
You got that wrong. The idea is that his wife was kind to your face, but was vicious behind closed doors. I know it isn't nice, but that was the actual lore.
@BlueFinch lol feels kid friendly compared to what you said 😂 reminds me of the folklore of that creepy girl that would cut ya regardless of the am I pretty answer. Oh and I realized boss bass in the vid is similar to 9:11 big Bertha, but Bertha spits out her kids lol. At least goofy 90's mario movie did better on that end.

I've always loved your channel my man! 🤘 Especially the game genie ones. Me and my dad had so made so many memories trying so many different Game genie codes that we actually fried our coffee of Super Mario Bros 1. Lol 🤣 we had to get another one. I miss him. Great times 🤘
I love how professional he's explaining this video like the game is brand new and just came out! 😁🤘🤘🤘 I love it that's amazing! I have so much nostalgia for this game!
Even though Buster Beetle is called a beetle, I feel like this must have been a mistake, he doesn't have any beetle traits like resisting fireballs or going in a shell or walking on all fours, he seems more like a hammer bro type enemy who walks upright and throws things at you (like the boomerang bros, fire bros, Spike, and Lakitu), they also usually have a little shell which could be the cause of the confusion.
And then there are the electric jellyfish, volcano lava plant, dry bones, flying chomps, sledge bros., Boom Boom, snippers, walking snippers, flying momma goombas, wing father goombas that can't fly, fake item blocks (this game was their debut before they got into Mario Kart) just that in this game they are use by mini goombas, fire wigglers, walking candle light, Bowser's laser statues, and rocky wrench.
My favorite boss was Lemmy from World 6. I'd play the game just to fight him at times. The bouncing balls were unique & World 6 itself was also my favorite world. I admit, Ludwig was a faster & more aggressive version of Roy.
Theory: Ptooies got their spike balls because some Spikes have a business selling the spike balls they produce which is good for Piranha Plants to play with and aren't hungry.
I totally forgot that you couldn't save on Mario 3. Looking back on it, that's crazy. I can't imagine people being cool with that today. It's essentially a 4+ hour commitment without warps... for me, at least. I was never that good. Edit: wait, I forgot this was the internet. By "never that good," I meant, the first time I played the game, I was 6 years old and beat the whole game without warps or power ups in 45 minutes. Ya, that's what I meant.
I love watching your videos because of your mastery of the game and how the original games are practically playgrounds for you. When we had only a few NES games, you can never go wrong with having Super Mario to go to. Once we beaten it, all we have left is the various fun stages to revisit and explore and it becomes a form of play and exploration. Only when we get a game genie it turns out singular game into an endless possibility. That was also me and it was great memories.
I've actually never thought of this before, surprisingly. I have thought of just about everything regarding Mario 3 because it's my all time favorite game. Top 10 favorite enemies. 1. Boss Bass 2. Angry Sun 3. Sledge Bros 4. Thwomp 5. Red Koopa Troopas 6. Lakitu (Most annoying) 7. Hammer Bros 8. Big Bertha 9. Goomba 10. Buzzy Beetle
Love your work, Gruz! Glad you’re back! Been a while lol. You’re one of few creators I like the video even before it starts playing 😂 👍🏻 Excellent work as always my friend.
Super Mario 3 certainly introduced some iconic enemies to the Super Mario universe… and I definitely agree that Boss Bass was quite a handful to deal with in the stages he appeared in!

It's hard to believe there were really only three Fire Bros in the entire game. Maybe I just remember it that way from repeating that hand level with all the different Hammer Bros variants so many times.
Oh Shit he's back to making video's again? I fucking missed his voice. He has that golden, nostalgia, retro voice. Perfect for older video games reviews.
Mario 3 really is the best game in the series. It set the standard for 2D Mario games. Good choices on favorite enemies. I will always loathe Boss Bass. The Sun however is really easy. I can see how people have a hard time with it, I breeze right through the desert stage. A well placed turtle shell always does the trick in that level.

Part 3 is the best one of all time. I kno some ppl will say World is, but I disagree. The lack of powerups in World hurt it for me. I love World too, but come on. I remember being 10 years old in the theater, and my mom could not figure out why I was losing my shit laughing when a black woman with huge breasts comes on screen, and says her name is Big Bertha. I burst out laughing at the "casting" for that character. And was dying when Mario stuck his face down her cleavage. That was such a weird movie.....I had to explain to my mom that the black woman with the red dress is supposed to be a fish, and that the street performer is supposed to be a human shaped mushroom.
