  • [EN] One of my older completed models - the superb ICM 1/35 Mercedes Benz G4 staff car
    Some people call it "over-engineered" but the final result matches the effort. In fact, after you build the frame with the suspension, everything goes straight forward. I really enjoyed building it and it remained for some time my all time favorite. Please enjoy the movie and leave a comment.

      PROPHET DESIGNER Multumesc frumos, Felix. Da, a fost putin complicat dar a iesit cumva. Si da, imi place sa fac chestiile astea.

    That looks wunderbar! Nice finish and scheme. I definitely have to get this kit, the light gray and black scheme looks good.

      Thank you so much!
      Yes, indeed is a very nice detailed kit produced by ICM and re-boxed by Revell.
      Yo've got right the main point of this build: the contrast between shiny "hard" black and matte "soft" black.
      If it'll be to redo this vehicle (maybe the 1/24th version), probably I will chose the dark blue & black scheme.
      Cheers!

    Very nice, looks sharp in that black scheme. I prefer the military look better but yours is cool too! Only criticism of the kit (just ordered one) is the tires, since 4 figures are included, so I ordered some tires from Armory, they are correct military off road pattern. Can you say "Hogan 's Heroes"? Thanks for posting.

      Thank you for your kind words! The main challenge for this kit it was to accomplish the contrast between "sharp black" of the body and the "soft black" of the tires. My reference was the second car of the Evil Guy, the one used for touring around with Eva Braun. Later on I have discovered that the black and white film cheated me and in fact the car was a very dark blue... Yes, the military version had different tires. Eduard has also an PE upgrade set if you are interested in adding even more details. I'm looking forward to see yours one completed! Cheers! Gabriel

      Thanks Gabriel, Eduard also make some tire chains for the kit, not sure I want to add the Eduard upgrade PE yet, we'll see. One strange thing is that the kit has the correct tires pictured on the box art but not in the kit.
      Also, just wanted to add, the way you painted your model was a very typical look in the 30s so just to add, looks very nice!
      Regards, Paul

    I've been doing models for about 40 years ! Still weary about certain builds ! Lol

      Same here, Kevin! I have a rather fat stash, but I'm avoiding a few models like cholera LOL

    I know that wasn't an easy build ! Frame issues etc. I'd like the off white and gray body style ! But your build is very cool !

      Kevin Chapman Thank you. I've been misled in my research. I found out later that what I took for gloss black in b&w movies was in fact gloss dark blue over black fenders.

      @milky55way2012 6 років тому

      That may have actually been Panzergrau and black fenders but you are close anyway!

    The starting view of the off white and gray blue is what im interested in ! Q d c. Did the Hogan's heroes replica of it ! Just not sure I want to tackle that now ! ?

      I was seriously considering to build the ICM 1/24 G4 in the colors described by you. I've read reviews saying that it has fewer parts than 1/35 scale one and has rubber tires and chromed parts. Perhaps you should try that one. There is a YT video with a fully functional G4 from a German museum in light gray / gloss black.

    Can the front end be steerable ! ?

    • @PanzergrauModels
      @PanzergrauModels  6 років тому

      Not without some engineering. Yeah, hard to understand lapse from ICM. I'm not sure how it is the 1/24 scale kit. It is tempting, but my building schedule is busy for foreseeable future with some ongoing / unfinished projects and a couple of campaigns...

      NO ! It's Revell, Germany. Follow the instructions and be quiet.

  • @yoda5565
    @yoda5565 4 роки тому +1

    Revell, Germany designers are what the German's call "FACHIDIOTEN" or technical idiots. Small parts are spread out on spur tress where ever they could find a place. Molding gates are place in impossible to access places and tend to damage or distort small parts. The instructions look like and Escher drawing and are organized in a sequence that requires guessing if they should be followed (which you did not do in the video, thankfully) On top of all that half the parts fit well and half require overnight drying time. Over all this kit is a tremendous example of German technical accomplishment; vs. practicality, like the Panther (two lost to engine fires at the rail head at Kursk) tank and Volksjager. The ICM G4 kit is much better. I have been building models for 40 years and Revell, Germany does not do the Revell name any favors. Congratulations on your build.

    • @PanzergrauModels
      @PanzergrauModels  4 роки тому

      Thank you! Revell destroyed their name by re-boxing altogether good and bad. This particular kit is an ICM originally, and an early ICM at that. They're not the best, indeed, regarding the sprues layout, but after a couple kits you can get their logic. I sort of like 'em.

      Multumesc pentru comentariu, Gabriel. Gasesc ca are farmecul lui in monstrozitate. Nu stiu daca esti la curent: armata australiana a comandat cu vreo 3 ani in urma modelul adus la zi, codat Mercedes Benz G64. Ala e si mai asasin.

    If i build this model I would be very frustrated about the pretty bad placed decals.
