In this episode I go into a lot more detail on my new 2020 John Deere 3039R farm tractor with loader and snowblower. I show you a complete walkaround of the exterior and interior and briefly explain how the controls in the cab work. I also show you guys some real life usage of the loader and snowblower right after a big dumping of snow. Go over some of the pros and cons I have found so far. Hopefully you will find the info in this video useful in deciding your next tractor purchase. Cheers. #johndeere #tractor #snowblower

    Bought my 3039R with cab 3 yrs ago. I bought the wheel weights for mine. They were ridiculously priced but I don’t want calcium potentially eating my rims. In my eyes wheel weights are a must. I just last summer got a 3pt hitch pallet fork. So I now have the heavy weight on the rear tires where big & heavy stuff needs to be. 840 hrs on mine so far. I plowed 206 driveways last winter with it and average $120/hr cash money.

      Perfect!, glad it was useful. This tractor is getting a lot of use this summer too. I've been doing a lot of gravel work, mulch etc. Moving compost around and the forks are a must. just yesterday the forks helped me lift a pallet of shingles up to the chicken house roof...otherwise I would have had to lift each pack up the ladder. Plus I feel like the 3039R is just big enough, but not too big where you start getting into the real big bucks. In a cold climate a cab is a plus too so the snow doesn't get blown back into your face when using a blower. Chad.

    Nice! I'm in the market for a tractor so I'm trying to figure out which models for each brand I should look at. Right now most all of them are doing 0% for 84 months so it is very very tempting. :) I only have 1.5 acres right now but I'd like to move to a little farmette kind of property at some point so I'm not against buying more tractor now to be prepared for the future.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching Patrick. I was in the same boat as you in thinking what the future might hold for me and my plans. I have 90 acres here but I just lease 40 acres of hay to my neighbors horse farm so they do all the work. But what I wanna do the hay in the future? What if I wanna pull some heavy duty dump trailers when I build a pond? so I wanted to invest in a tractor that wasn't too tiny and weak but not too big either cause as you know they are all super expensive no matter what brand. I feel like it comes down to personal choice though. I like the name John Deere and was always taught they were the best. GM vs Ford? Honda vs Toyota? They are all good right. my 2nd choice was the similar Kubota(forgot the model I was looking at) but settled on the John Deere 3039R cause its tough enough for my needs now and in the future AND a dealer is only a few km's away whereas a Kubota is an hour away so getting it serviced is easy. I'm enjoying this tractor though. This years it's moving gravel, mulch, etc. making trails in the forest, chipping wood with my new woodland mills chipper. moving pallets etc. It's getting worked this summer. Anyways good luck you you bud and Cheers, Chad.

    I have the 3039R with the cab and it's scary when being on uneven ground.
    I just purchased 6" Bora wheel spacers.
    I live on a hill and and a lot of opportunity to tip over. I think the 6" spacers will do the trick on the back, it's going to be a wait and see for spacers on the front.
    I have a 2016 and have never regretted buying this tractor.
    I have a front mounted snow blower because I can look straight ahead.
    I do have the work lights on the back.
    I'm going to install the LED light bulbs.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  2 роки тому

      That’s great that you’re pleased with the tractor as am I so far. I didn’t go for spacers yet as I’m worried the wheels will protrude further than the bucket and blower. I’m leaning towards getting the rear tires loaded with calcium as my farmer neighbor suggested. But it definitely gives me stomach butterflies when going over uneven ground as I’m sure most cab tractors this size would do. Thanks for sharing Bob.

    • @jtf320
      @jtf320 2 роки тому

      @@HiddenSpringFarm Check with your dealer about the wheel spacers. I have a 2019 3039r with cab and I was told by my dealer that John Deere no longer recommends or will install wheel spacers on the 3R series. The front does not have room for them. The axel also can fail because it was not designed for the added stress that the spacers put on them. So if you do install the spacers on the rear (like many people do) it could invalidate your warranty. What I have done is loaded my rear tires and always have extra ballast on the rear. You can also install the front rims inside out to gain a little wider stance. Also be sure to carry your loads as low as possible to keep the center of gravity low. After my warranty is up I will probably add 2" -3" spacers on the rear tires.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  2 роки тому

      @@jtf320 hi James thanks for the comment. Since the video I did get the tires loaded and it helped a lot. I was actually more worried about using my snowblower and the wheels being wider than the blower, but you make a lot of great points. I think most of my tippy issues are cause I’m always up in the woods on a mountain. Once I invest in a small excavator I can dig out a bunch of trails and switchbacks it’ll help keep the tractor level. Appreciate you watching bud, Chad.

    Thanks, what is the advantage of rear snow blower compared to a front snowblower? I’m ordering mine this week.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  2 роки тому

      We’ll the rear fit best for me here on the farm cause it allows me to use the bucket on the front to move snow if needed, move bakes and feed etc. Also it is a lot more affordable, a front mount is more expensive and requires a pto connect. Turning sideways in my seat is not such a big deal for me but might be for some with stiff necks. To each his own I guess.

    Those are not shear pins on the 3 point hitch. Those most likely are Grade 8 pins if you break those you have done some damage! You have shear pins on the snowblower and probably have a set of spares on it somewhere. Shear pins are meant to protect your PTO and engine.

    Instead of spacers I'd get calcium put in the tires. My dad has a 5101e jd and did that. Even our other tractors growing up have calcium to. Id suggest watching tractor time with Tim on you tube. 😀 when I gwt my 3039r I'll be getting a snow scoop on the front and snowblower for the back.

    A 3046R is not big for a 90 acre homestead. Your "friends" just don’t understand, lol. You could easily have a 5 series, and they are much wider and more stable. Also the rear tires can be turned two ways to change its width, so make sure you have the deepest dish side out for max stability. As long as you don’t use the mid mount mower deck, wheel spacers will help some. John Deere doesn’t recommend spacers on the 3 series, but aftermarket ones are available. If you have the mid-mount PTO option, you can get a front mount PTO driven blower that is very powerful, and put a snow plow or box blade on the rear for the times when you need to push some snow.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  2 роки тому

      All good points. I still think it's fine for me. It clears the snow with ease and i can move the snow if needed. I can chip wood, use the loader, pallet forks, skid logs etc...that's all I need it for really. Of course I'd love to have a bigger tractor, but more money, more insurance etc. I use a x350 lawn tractor for my mowing, I'd love a zero turn but it was double the price for the same deck width. Maybe one day. The issue I have with the lawn tractor is they don't have air ride seats so my back gets wrecked with I'm mowing for a few hours.

      Amazing. Everything I need to do on the property is easier and more fun. Lots of snow this year and it’s handles our long driveway no problem. I have the wood chipper on now to get some mulch made. No regrets so far. I need a grapple though, that’s next on my list. Cheers.

I am loving the tractor though, it's getting a ton of hours in this summer from helping me make trails in the woods, wood chipping, loading soil, gravel, mulch etc. Cheers, Chad.

    Good video I did look at John Deere 3039R and I thought it was to small in size especially in width and with can on way to top heavy that's why ballast box in on there. I ended up getting Kubota L4060 just a lot more tractor and I think lot more safer. Kubota was $4000 more but was 4 more horsepower and was a 4 cylinder Deere is a 3. Bigger bucket and heavier steel with quick attached. If $$$ is a big factor then go with Deere but look at the Kubota L4060 and you will see the difference and where the extra
    $$$ comes in and also make sure you add rim guard for rear tires that will add weight to back of tires it's a $300 add on. Also both brand of tractors have great resale value

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  3 роки тому

      Appreciate the comment. When searching I narrowed my list down to Kubota and JD. I felt like they're both great manufacturers and have a good history, it just came down to personal choice I guess. Availability was also an issue up here as everything was affected due to the corona. I'll be putting wheel spacers on the rear cause yes it does get a bit tippy in certain situations. and I really liked the JD forward & reverse pedal setup. Anyways I do appreciate you watching and enjoy the Kubota, it'll be a great tractor for you I'm sure.

    Technically it's three exits supposedly you only use the left hand door it's the one that's got the step the other doors will let's face it if anything ever happens or roll over or whatever you want to be able to get out of the other door that you can get to or even the back glass that I think on yours as well as all the ones I've seen open as well so you can get out of it if you have to 3 series are pretty narrow so they can be a little rolly I've got a 35-20 which they don't make no more but it's in our series it's the same thing pretty much it's a great tractor but I don't have the cab on it I wish it did but I don't want to come across what God gave me so I just give God praise for it again I will be going up to probably a four or five series for the next tractor only because there's a lot you can do with the 3 series but then the heavier work you get especially plowing and things of that nature you really need the bigger tractor to pull you know your your field implements bottom plow shank you know cultivator all kinds of things like that you really and if you want to cover any ground you know having the bigger tractor you can pull wider implements wider planner if the business gets bigger then we'll go to bigger tractors but we'll grow as it grows as the Lord wills it and if you don't then we'll give God praise for where we're at because he knows better than I do especially with the future

      I'm ok with this tractor for now. It clears the snow and moves dirt with ease. Chips woods easily too. If I ever get into any kind of serious farming I'd need a bigger machine for sure. It's definitely tipsy at times on uneven ground that's why I have the tires loaded with calcium now.

    Love the options on this tractor, but if you are looking to farm with this you are going to get yourself killed. Do not attempt to bail hay with this. Its way to small. It is a good tractor to mow grass and roto till your garden. I'm sure for snow it's a beast. I love the tractor otherwise.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  2 роки тому

      It sure is a beast in the snow. You're probably right about larger farming stuff and I'm not sure I want to push the tractor to it's absolute limits either. I'll be using it a lot this year as we're redoing our garden so I'll have tons of soil and manure to move. I really love having a cab, not sure why anyone would buy one without. It stays pretty clean in there and I stay warm and cool with no snow blowing back in my face lol. Cheers, Chad.

      @@HiddenSpringFarm I'm sure I will. I have had a 1025R and now a 2038R and moving up to a 3046R Cab because my wife and I are buying 5 acres in Southern California and I am tired of sunburn, sweating and inhaling dust when I'm on the tractors. So it's now time for a cab and the 3 family will do the trick. Best of all, my current implements will all work with the new, bigger tractor so it's a win! I have never had an issue with any of my JD tractors so I'm sticking with the Deere line. Ramona California...here we come! You didn't say anything about the Plastic hood and fenders. No one ever talk about all the Plastic on a John Deere. A Plastic Tractor. I would hate having the snow blower on the back. Can't wait to have to keep looking around to snow blow. Trally bad over all tractor.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  2 роки тому +1

      To each his own. I don't mind the fenders or the hood, they don't dent as easily. but steel tractors such as Kubota are great tractors too, I just wanted a JD all my life. I get on in the tractor just fine, I actually am getting a lot of use this year with all the snow last winter then all the wood chipping and compost moving. I like having the option to move snow with the loader if I need to so having the blower on the rear allows me to keep the loader on. What tractor do you own? I'm guessing not a JD eh. Anyways appreciate you watching bud and for taking the time to comment. Chad.
