Agree with other commentators, as someone born and bred in Belfast I can say that an Irish breakfast without potato farls and soda bread is not an Irish breakfast. Not sure where the fried bread is either. If potato farls are not available it is traditional to have fried potato leftovers
I reckon £8-9 would be a fair price. For £12 I'd expect an extra sausage and soda bread or fried slice. But think they need smaller plates. Unless they pile it up I think the portion will always seem small. I'm a beans on plate person. Especially with fried bread. It soaks up the bean juice! But in all honesty, for me, the nicest part is the mop up at the end! 😅 Love the vlog. I'd go for a 7
Its missing both Potato Bread and also Soda bread we have with our frys here in ireland. Its exceptional. They defo should have gave at least 2-3 sausages also
@@spurge83 If they wanted to be all UK about it then they could have done an Ulster Fry like my Irish gran used to make. She lived through some very tough times, but she knew how to make up for it when the times were good, and there's no better way to start your day than an Ulster Fry, especially if you went a bit heavy on the Guinness or Jameson's the night before...
I just found your channel today, and really love it. Something to watch while having my dinner. As an Irish person, that breakfast looks a bit sparse, but it certainly looks tasty. Keep up the great videos 👍😋
I was in a pub in Balinasloe one lunchtime. I was amused when a gentleman next to me received his meat and three veg, with a side order of extra potatoes. An Irish breakfast has to have potatoes in some form, other than those hash brown wedges. I sometimes grate potato and fry it in duck fat, with bacon, egg, and black pudding, including a big, fat mushroom sometimes.
It looks like it's been served on a tray rather than a plate. Genuine Irish breakfasts are usually a bit more substantial than that, but I suppose it's not that expensive. I'd want something extra - maybe a fried slice or fried potatoes.
The last video i saw you eating out of a frying pan. My second video and you're eating out of a tray. Seen as though you've Irish roots come on over the Ireand and i promise we will help you eat off a plate 😂
It looked very well presented and nicely cooked. It looked delicious. I like the beans as presented separate. The portions would be ok for me. I would also have thought the tea would have been incorporated in the overall price. It is afterall only water, tea, milk. 8/10
Big fan of these videos and this channel. Succinct and to the point and the right length with no guff and flannel. At present this channel is " off the charts" compared to others 😅😅😅😅😅
Much appreciated! I do try to keep it simple as I know not everyone has time to watch videos (particularly of me scoffing my face). Thanks for watching!
In my view, what separates a full English breakfast from a full Irish Breakfast is the fried bread in an Irish full breakfast - usually potato bread (fadge), soda bread and/or Irish wheaten bread. Also most Irish full breakfasts usually include a potato patty or similar. What you had there Gary was a full English breakfast.
I must admit, looking at that dish, as well as it looked, I did wonder what the difference was between a full English and a full Irish breakfast. I think the above comment answers my curiosity.
I agree that on that large plate it did look sparse, and seemed overpriced for the size, I don’t think I’d visit, but another great, honest, review. Congrats on your increase in subscribers, definitely deserved 🎉👍🏻
Being from Dublin myself, I was looking forward to this one but toast??? Where was the soda bread? 😝 In all seriousness it did look good but the portion was a bit small. I think your score of 7.5/10 was justified.

@@GaryEatsI think the size of the plate doesn’t help - even though it’s a nice plate. When you have such a large plate and you only put a few things on it, it makes it look like a small portion. Hello Gary. I agree with the portion size but at least it was mostly quality food and the cafe looked very nice inside. Either way I would have loved that breakfast. I was close to your score as I thought you would score it a 7. As a British born Sikh punjabi my favourite thing in the world ever is always going to be a full English breakfast ❤
Evening again Gary cafe looks quite good for Clapham! Breakfast presentation didn't look great to me but you seemed to like it! Glad beans in separate dish which I prefer. No to black and white pud but know you love it. Thought it was ok for the money.
I don’t think the plate helped. It made it look a very meagre portion. But obviously quality ingredients. Great video Gary. You have become my go to UA-camr. Love your videos mate. Keeping it honest and real. Keep up the good work.
A full Irish or Ulster Fry is usually a lot more substantial than this. Kidneys normally form a part, potato cakes and some hot soda bread. Could have done with being on a plate rather than a floor tile !! Sausage looked good. I prefer the beans separate unless I am having a fried slice or two when I like the beans on a corner of the slice. £12 isn't too bad bearing in mind the location. I think 7.5 is fair. I would have given a 7. Great review as always.
Firstly - well done on the 4k subs Gary, been a subscriber from the start and its great to see the channel continue it's growth. Secondly - that breakfast looked a joke for the price! There is at least a double mark up on price vs cost and to charge on top for the tea is ridiculous - whatever the postcode is no one should be ripped off. Paulos and Terry's both in London too and you got so much more! Cannot comment on the size of the sausage as I haven't had as many as you to have a comparison chart! :)
Thanks so much Joe 👍 I really appreciate your support from the start, I remember you were one of the first to comment on my videos so it's always appreciated. Completely agree, Paolo's and Terry's are going to be extremely hard to top.
Gary, You do it in a way that I love. I am Spanish (Mallorca) you have to show that you are doing it...that in England you can also eat very well. Congratulations
Looked nice and not bad price for London. Your score spot on maybe should have had another slice of white pudding. Don't like it when dishes come with a chip in them ,should throw them out ,was on the bean dish if you misses it x
Another great review Gary. As you said it looked a very small breakfast for £12. It always makes me chuckle when people say they prefer the beans served on the plate. Surely all you've got to do is tip them onto the plate? When served on the plate you can't put them back in the bowl if that's your presentation preference.
Parisienne monsieur, avec le Irish breakfast and accordian reggae backing track. Love it. Fusion. The menu looks really good. Not the biggest sausage I've ever seen, said the actress to the bishop. Did you do a combo? Looked back and you did, but didn't mention it. It's like your trademark. Taste each food individually, then, 'let's try a combo!'.
Is that what they call an Ulster breakfast? A woman from NI at work kept going on about it. Do they have a Provo breakfast and an Orangeman breakfast in that part of the world too?
Great vlog yet again Gary, but firstly congratulations on hitting that 4k + subscribers, you and camera person are clearly doing it right. As for the Breakfast i think it was a fare size, it even had two eggs. Sadly the cost of goods these days and what with Gas and Electric prices being what they are, most eateries are having to be very careful with there portion sizes and costs. Personally i would give it an 8.5 especially as its a London based business, and i will be honest it was miles ahead of the Harrods breakfast. Chris.
Thank you so much. You've been counting them down and finally I've got there. Really appreciate it and I'll pass on the nice words to the cameraman. I agree re. gas and electric, times have really changed. It was lightyears beyond the Harrods breakfast, I could do a breakfast blindfolded and deliver better haha. Thanks for commenting as always Chris.
7.5 for me - said that before your rating! Both on the same plate (see what I did there). And keep the Rosie Lee catchphrase.'Nice cuppa of Rosie Lee' - defo a T-shirt print!
When I was a kid dad took us to southern Ireland every year for our 2 week holidays. Salt hill, achill island, galway, connemarra.I wanted to bring one of the Donkeys back to look after it , it's hooves were upturned and neglected 😂 didn't understand dad saying no until I was older 😊 xx
Another great honest review Gary. I agree with you on two very important things... 1) It should be marked down if the portion small 2) Mushrooms are definitely uggy !
You get the option here (Ireland)of a mini breakfast,I sometimes go for that, you asked for no mushrooms,an extra sausage would've been nice, bacon loooked a bit thin for my liking.
Good review, think I'd have wanted more for the price, but I'm in Lincolnshire and I expect the prices are considerably higher, come to Mkt Rasen and try the March Hare, lovely food.
Informative video again Gary. I would personally give extra marks for portion size.Much better for digestive system and quality should always beat quantity in my opinion.
Mr Gary weres the veg roll being Irish breakfast great video as always bit of white pudding doesn't make it lrish 👍does it bit small for the price.anyhow great video
More a small Paddy. 1 sausage and 1 rasher of bacon?? What’s on a small breakfast?? Only plus point I can see is the HP & the Heinz. Enjoying the channel 👍🏻
I personally think that £12 was a bit pricey but I guess that’s Clapham prices for you! All looked good though. Tea was a good price! Not too sure about it being served so quickly??? Lovely review, Gary!
You can always pour the beans on the breakfast so its no big deal. Excellent review gary would of been nice if they had given you an extra sausage as you never had any mushrooms but all the same the breakfast looked really nice.
Gary, you clearly knocked off a couple of points regarding the portion size, what additions/improvements would you have added to this dish to bring it up to a more respectable 9 out of 10?
Looked good to me, don’t have a cooked breakfast too often. £12.50 in London is ok, I live 35 miles away in Bedfordshire and its no less. Great Vid,,,,,
Sausage looked like it was done in a deep fat fryer but either way there should have been two of them. Tea could have been included for the £12. Some fried potatoes would have went along way on that plate. I'm enjoying your content 👍🇮🇪
That breakfast looked lovely, As you didn't have mushrooms they could of given you an extra sausage instead! Been in here before and I swapped an item for something else! I have always thought though the tea should be included with the price!
As others have said a bit lacking in Irish trimmings. Why Cumberland sausage, what’s wrong with Irish Sausage ? Also sausage looked suspiciously deep fried 🤔
Looked a very good quality breakfast Gary. The bacon was cooked just as I like it, everything looked perfect. I defintely prefer the beans kept separate from the rest of the beakfast. Interesting tray like plate..All in all I really liked the look of the food and the cafe itself. I agree not the biggest portion but it seems like there is usually a trade off between quality and portion size. Great video Gary, happy eating and long may it continue. 🙂
I did think it was a smallish portion for the price but it did look good quality and well cooked but once again the proximity of the eggs and beans we're a problem for me. 😊
Hi Gary, thanks a lot for the review. I think the watercress was rocket? in which case I would have sent it back because I hate the taste of rocket! As you rightly say a Chop House with only one chop? Poor. I love Barnsley Chops, good norther dish, but no mint sauce is unforgivable ! Overall a nice place but very expensive for what you got and 7 was a fair score 👍
I agree with you, regarding portion size but, tbh, it would have been the perfect size for myself, although a robust eater, who regards breakfast as the most important meal of the day, would probably prefer double that. The beans were generous, because they are probably the cheapest item on the menu, along with the bread. Lol I would probably give this a 7/10! My Irish Dad would have been outraged at the size of the white, & blood puddings - but then, he grew up on a farm where his Mum made her own, so generosity in size didn't cost much! Lol We kids loved it when he came back from a visit, as his suitcase would be full of the home grown & butchered puddings, ham, pork, etc
Another sausage and bacon rasher and the other half of the tomato would make it good value. Plus I don't expect to pay £1.10 for a cup of tea when paying £12 for a breakfast.
I prefer non smoked Bacon so that was a winner for me, the portion size would have been good for me. I would have asked for no pudding as I prefer mushrooms instead so more mushrooms for me. Great review and the cost of that breakfast matches what we would pay here in Australia
My band used to play at the Guinness Jazz festival every year. At the digs we stayed in, the landlady brought out our breakfast it arrived on a massive silver platter that was full to brim. Entire band looked at each other and said there’s no way we’re all gonna get through that. Then she brought out another four. Every platter was actually an individual breakfast!!
I would have given it a higher score had it mushrooms and skin on sliced fried potatoes. They would have bulked out the breakfast. An extra sausage a bonus! Good to see the interloper: hash browns non existant. Having a French name, a portion of chantarelles or pied du mouton should be tried, if they have them, as you dislike the champignons de Paris that every caff/restaurant serves. There are such a good range of different types of mushrooms available in Europe, with different flavours. Maybe worth a gastronomic tour, Gary. I loved my Irish tour back in I996. While taking Taffy the Staffy for his evening walk, we came upon a perfect fairy ring of mushrooms. It blew my mind. 6/10 pour moi! Not magic, I must add!
It looks tasty but not strictly an Irish breakfast due to the omissions some of your other commentors mentioned. Also baked beans are a relatively recent addition to the Irish fry. I remember when I moved to England in the late 1980s I thought it was absolutely mental when I got beans with a fry. However ,it has grown on me and it is more usual to get beans in Ireland these days.
Have to agree that the breakfast looked a little light on and the serving plate was much too big. However compared to the Harrod's breakfast it looked good. Enjoying your travels and reviews very much, best wishes from far away Tasmania!
Did you go for the "Breakfast Sample" option? Or was it zapped by the Minions shrinking ray gun? Even the toast looks like a 75p tesco bread loaf. Too much cost for too little food.
Sausage and puddings look like they have been dipped in the fryer to reheat. Hence the short waiting time. At the price, its a pass from me. Glad u enjoyed it all the same 👍
When you talk about Irish roots do you mean southern Ireland or northern Ireland. Portions weren't very big Gary but what you did get looked lovely apart from the black pudding and white 😊 xx
I'm from northern Ireland but dad took us to southern Ireland every year for our 2 week holiday. Galway, salthill, connemarra, achile island. I cried coming home because dad wouldn't let me bring one of the donkeys home 😂 it's hooves were upturned and I wanted to look after it 😊 xx
Agreed, the portion size was tiddly and sorta.. miserly.. to the usual hearty stick-to-your-ribs generosity Irish breakfast we enjoyed as kids. Mash, 2 sausages, eggs, bacon, tomatoes, tinned spaghetti (beans create an atmosphere no one needs in the morning) separate bowl, looks best. Toast, white with jam on the side. Tea is free and unlimited. Do restaurants often separate the sides and tea, especially if the meal traditionally comes with it? Gary and Cameraman, great content! Thank you kindly again.❤️💛💚💙🩵💜💖💕🥰
Quality was a clear 10/10...but one sausage!?!? Quantity was a huge let down, nice to see White Pudding... genuinely one of the best things that humans have made!
OMG it looks like a sea of breakfast! So spaced out! But it all looks good and the place looked nice, toast on the side plate, well done! I give it an 8.5

A very good point and thank you very much have a great week ahead
Parisienne monsieur, avec le Irish breakfast and accordian reggae backing track. Love it. Fusion.
The menu looks really good.
Not the biggest sausage I've ever seen, said the actress to the bishop.
Did you do a combo? Looked back and you did, but didn't mention it. It's like your trademark. Taste each food individually, then, 'let's try a combo!'.
Lol. I do love a combo Steve!
Afternoon Gary
Will you be venturing out of London , I’m from Oxford some interesting place to eat in the city I would have thought
Hi Phil. Next week I'm going to York and either one of Oxford/Brighton depending. Could you recommend some nice places to review in Oxford? Thanks!
Great minds think alike haha! I will keep the catchphrase for the future. Thanks for watching!
Great story Margaret 🇮🇪🇮🇪xx
Another great honest review Gary. I agree with you on two very important things... 1) It should be marked down if the portion small 2) Mushrooms are definitely uggy !
Right on and I completely agree Stephanie. No mushrooms for either of us!
Did look nice Gary but I agree was a tad small another sausage would of gone down well 7/10 😊
Fair comment entirely Nick
You get the option here (Ireland)of a mini breakfast,I sometimes go for that, you asked for no mushrooms,an extra sausage would've been nice, bacon loooked a bit thin for my liking.
I miss Ireland, can't wait to go back soon. Some potato bread would have been nice as well. Thanks for watching!
Good review, think I'd have wanted more for the price, but I'm in Lincolnshire and I expect the prices are considerably higher, come to Mkt Rasen and try the March Hare, lovely food.
Fair comment. Thanks for watching!
Informative video again Gary.
I would personally give extra marks for portion size.Much better for digestive system and quality should always beat quantity in my opinion.
Very fair point. Thanks for watching!
Love my beans on buttered toast I'd love more tomato 🍅 if I was eating it looks nice eggs looked perfect yum 😊😊😊😊 cup of tea can't go wrong
You're spot on!
Another good video 😊 i think we get bigger portions the more north you come
Thank you! Up North next week. Looking forward to it!
Another enjoyable review. Two fried eggs and two slices of black pudding impressed me - I would have given them eight.
Thank you for watching my videos. Much appreciated!
Clapham is in Lambeth. When I was born there it was in Wandsworth. That was just after the war.
Cheers Francis.
Mr Gary weres the veg roll being Irish breakfast great video as always bit of white pudding doesn't make it lrish 👍does it bit small for the price.anyhow great video
Hahaha. Thanks Robbie, I need a bit of soda bread next time I have a full Irish. Going Dublin this year!
Ingredients looked good quality. Was it worth £12?, probably not. (on looks alone).
Very fair reflection. Thanks for watching!
More a small Paddy. 1 sausage and 1 rasher of bacon?? What’s on a small breakfast??
Only plus point I can see is the HP & the Heinz.
Enjoying the channel 👍🏻
Thanks Tony 👍🏼
Gary once again a great review ! yes it was a bit sparse but still looked good
Thanks Lee! Yeah, the portions were disappointing.
I personally think that £12 was a bit pricey but I guess that’s Clapham prices for you! All looked good though. Tea was a good price! Not too sure about it being served so quickly??? Lovely review, Gary!
I thought you gave it a fair score.
Any chance of reviewing the Marks and Spencers breakfast ?
I can do Marks and Spencers soon for sure!
You can always pour the beans on the breakfast so its no big deal. Excellent review gary would of been nice if they had given you an extra sausage as you never had any mushrooms but all the same the breakfast looked really nice.
Would have liked another. Thanks for watching!
Go to the cafe in Beddington Park.
The breakfast looked nice but expensive for portion size
Agreed, a bit too expensive in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Gary, you clearly knocked off a couple of points regarding the portion size, what additions/improvements would you have added to this dish to bring it up to a more respectable 9 out of 10?
Soda bread and fairls if it's an Irish breakfast, Dan! Plus a bit more white pudding.
@@GaryEats Good call there Gary! that would have tipped the balance for me too.
Good stuff!
Looked good to me, don’t have a cooked breakfast too often. £12.50 in London is ok, I live 35 miles away in Bedfordshire and its no less. Great Vid,,,,,
Thank you!
Sausage looked like it was done in a deep fat fryer but either way there should have been two of them. Tea could have been included for the £12. Some fried potatoes would have went along way on that plate. I'm enjoying your content 👍🇮🇪
Really appreciate that. Glad you're enjoying it!
That breakfast looked lovely, As you didn't have mushrooms they could of given you an extra sausage instead!
Been in here before and I swapped an item for something else!
I have always thought though the tea should be included with the price!
That’s a good point and I do prefer when it’s all in as well
As others have said a bit lacking in Irish trimmings. Why Cumberland sausage, what’s wrong with Irish Sausage ?
Also sausage looked suspiciously deep fried 🤔
Agreed. Would have loved some potato bread.
Looks Yumilicous, 9/10,never knew you have irish roots.they could have given the cup of táe with it.
Oh yes, very strong Irish roots. Thank you!
4k whoo hoo.. well done mate! 🎉
Thanks! 😃 really appreciate your kind comments.
Thank you Gary and all the best to you.
I did think it was a smallish portion for the price but it did look good quality and well cooked but once again the proximity of the eggs and beans we're a problem for me. 😊
Fair enough! A lot of people have a problem with that haha.
Hi mate. Yes it was, I did ask the staff and they said it was watercress and the menu said so as well, bizarre situation.
I agree with you, regarding portion size but, tbh, it would have been the perfect size for myself, although a robust eater, who regards breakfast as the most important meal of the day, would probably prefer double that.
The beans were generous, because they are probably the cheapest item on the menu, along with the bread. Lol
I would probably give this a 7/10!
My Irish Dad would have been outraged at the size of the white, & blood puddings - but then, he grew up on a farm where his Mum made her own, so generosity in size didn't cost much! Lol
We kids loved it when he came back from a visit, as his suitcase would be full of the home grown & butchered puddings, ham, pork, etc
I have to say this was a very early video and I was way too generous, it wasn’t the best and in hindsight I would market a lot lower
Another sausage and bacon rasher and the other half of the tomato would make it good value. Plus I don't expect to pay £1.10 for a cup of tea when paying £12 for a breakfast.
Actually agree with that. Fair comment and point. Thanks for watching!
Looked great. Nice review 👍
Thanks 👍 Happy you're enjoying my content :)
I prefer non smoked Bacon so that was a winner for me, the portion size would have been good for me. I would have asked for no pudding as I prefer mushrooms instead so more mushrooms for me. Great review and the cost of that breakfast matches what we would pay here in Australia
Thank you John 👍
My band used to play at the Guinness Jazz festival every year. At the digs we stayed in, the landlady brought out our breakfast it arrived on a massive silver platter that was full to brim. Entire band looked at each other and said there’s no way we’re all gonna get through that. Then she brought out another four. Every platter was actually an individual breakfast!!
That’s so good to hear
Heading to a hotel in Donegal on Monday where the white pudding is lovely at breakfast.
Very nice have a good time
I would have given it a higher score had it mushrooms and skin on sliced fried potatoes.
Thank you very much for your wonderful comment. It’s really appreciated.
Catching up with some of Gary’s earlier uploads. This breakfast I would give a 6/10 without extra sausage bacon and maybe an Irish potato cake.
It definitely wasn’t an authentic Irish breakfast Richard
Great vlog again Gary great review , although the food was good. Quality , could have had a bit more fir £12.50
Thanks very much, I agree with you. 👍
Have to agree that the breakfast looked a little light on and the serving plate was much too big.
However compared to the Harrod's breakfast it looked good.
Enjoying your travels and reviews very much, best wishes from far away Tasmania!
I think most breakfasts will be superior to Harrods! Thank you so much for your kind comments all the way from Tasmania!
Did you go for the "Breakfast Sample" option? Or was it zapped by the Minions shrinking ray gun? Even the toast looks like a 75p tesco bread loaf. Too much cost for too little food.
Laughed at that. That's a fair reflection. Thanks for watching!
Looks nice, but for 12 quid personally I would expect more food on the plate.
Agree with you.
That looked lovely Gary, 8/10 from me
Glad you enjoyed it Herbert.
Try Jacks at the Junction on lavender hill in battersea. Real food real prices for all
Will do.
great video thanks
Sausage and puddings look like they have been dipped in the fryer to reheat. Hence the short waiting time. At the price, its a pass from me. Glad u enjoyed it all the same 👍
Yes I agree. It could have been better!
When you talk about Irish roots do you mean southern Ireland or northern Ireland. Portions weren't very big Gary but what you did get looked lovely apart from the black pudding and white 😊 xx
Laois in southern Ireland Margaret, this wasn’t the best to be honest
You're more than welcome, Mona. Thanks for watching!
Try Halepi in queensway. Beautiful
Will do!
Quality was a clear 10/10...but one sausage!?!? Quantity was a huge let down, nice to see White Pudding... genuinely one of the best things that humans have made!
Totally agree, love white pudding as well.
Gary, I think you promised that you would have mushrooms on your next breakfast............!!!! Breakfast did look good to me.
Oh John, I was hoping someone would have forgot. Okay, next one for sure... Thanks for watching!
OMG it looks like a sea of breakfast! So spaced out! But it all looks good and the place looked nice, toast on the side plate, well done! I give it an 8.5
Thanks for watching! A nice rating.
Ooh that looked lovely. Could've done with more on the plate, but thats me greedy😂
Haha, needed more. Thanks for watching!
i find the Scottish breakfast the best one
Trying one soon. Thanks for watching!
