This video demonstrates an easy procedure for installing a Guide Scope on Celestron EdgeHD 8” telescope. The same procedure can be used for Celestron SCT 8 and Celestron RASA OTAs (the dovetail bar for RASA is different).
I am using the SVBONY SV106 - a 60mm Guide Scope for my Edge HD8 Telescope. It will serve as a Guide Scope when imaging and as a Finder Scope for visual observations.
Here is the link to my video on unboxing and initial assembly of SVBONY 60mm Guide Scope:

I love your channel, I wondered what the advantage is for installing the SVBony VS the original finder scope?

Thanks a lot! The SVBony will work as both a finder scope as well as a Guide Scope. The bundle finderscope cannot be used as guide scope.

Looking forward to some images, will you be using the AISAIR and live stack, suggested Targets M33, 51 and 101.. Thanks for some cracking content.

      Thanks, Telford!
Yes, I will finish this setup asap. It still needs 0.7x reducer and the ZWO EAF. I'll be using the ASIAIR and ASI533MC Pro OSC camera from my existing GT71 imaging train. Right now, the weather here is really not co-operative. We just had a major winter storm last night and even if we get a clear night, it's freezing outside.
Appreciate your kind suggestions, especially the M51. I missed that last summer. I will keep that in mind. Cheers!

Great video, exactly what I was looking to do. Can you use any of the screws along the outside to mount it on, or only the ones that are exactly opposite to existing dovetail mount that is used to attach the scope to the mount?

Thanks Andrew! I'm glad that the video was helpful. You can use only the screws/knobs that are provided for mounting the scope to the mount. Cheers!

Hello! Would this work with a C6? I'm trying to see if I can attach my small refractor for a guide system. Awesome video by the way!

    • @AstroCrescentDIY
      @AstroCrescentDIY  Рік тому +1

Hi Josh, Thanks for watching. I doubt there's a Celestron Dovetail bar like this for C6. However, ADM has one. You may search for "ADM V Series Dovetail Bar for Celestron 6″ SCT Telescope - Extra Long - VC6-XL". You may be still need some base for mounting the smaller refractor, such as "Svbony Medium Dovetail Clamp". CS!

Great video, thanks. I have a vixen dovetail left over from my attempt to use my 8" HD on a wedge-modified evolution mount which was not very satisfying! I'm planning to reuse the vixen to mount the guidescope on the Edge with a new AM5 mount. I bought the same 60mm you show in the video, coincidentally. I am hoping for a very stable and repeatable setup with very little flexure for guiding with ASIAIR. It's all portable; so it will be set up then broken down each night. Does the setup work well for you? I'm still concerned about the knurled knobs and whether they maintain a solid pointing even when the scope is turned during the evening while guiding or moving to other targets. Thanks again.

Hi which ADM bracket do you use does it really matter which one it is because if I have the same guide scope dovetail does the ADM Prism Clamp/Adapter for Skywatcher StarAdventurer GTi fit?

This specific ADM bracket attaches to both the guide scope at top and the Celestron dovetail at the bottom. I can't say whether your ADM prism adapter for Star Adventure will fit or not. Thanks.

Hi Pawan. When you have a chance, can you kindly check the model number of the ADM bracket you used for this setup? It doesn't seem like the DPA-VPA-FF is the same thing, since it doesn't provide for mounting anything with screws. I see a DPA- D Series Dovetail Adapter. Would that be it? Sorry to bother, but I'd appreciate it! Thank you.

You are absolutely right. I'm just building this rig to start with. Cost is a concern at the moment (after all, it's a hobby). An ideal solution would be to use an OAG, but that's an expensive solution. So, I'll do that next year. Let's see how the scope performs with 240mm guidescope.

OAG is recommended for this setup. I did not use that option due to cost concerns as you need a guide camera with larger sensor. Cheers!

Hello Peter, thanks for your kind words for my videos. This guide scope is too small for visual observations. You could however use it as a monocular for casual observations.
