  • Replacing upper and lower balljoints on a 2006 Silverado. I believe this will work for any Sierra or Silverado 1999-2006. It's at least the same process. Most trucks in general are about the same.
    Make sure to have a good set of mechanics tools, grease gun if you get grease-able ball joints, brake cleaner, ball joint press and a set of gloves.

    For those finding this video. Pay attention to how the upper ball joint is installed. It is directional. That dot should face in or out, and not front or back for proper movement of the ball joint.

    the hardest part of this job is using the ball joint remover and figuring out what adapters work for your application. in my opinion showing how u removed and installed the joints with your tool would have helped more than the other parts. anyway thanks for showing how to get up to removing and installing the joints.

      I agree the purpose of a video is to show you how to do it. If you don't show anything being done. We might as well just read a book. Otherwise, it was a great video.

      would like to know what adapters needed for press kit so i know which one to get. Also you do not have to take the hub off the knuckle.

    If you pull the CV axle completely, remove swaybar endlink, and undo the tie rod from steering knuckle you can do the upper control arm and then lower ball joint without ever removing the steering knuckle or brake system.

    2 thingsI did not understand. you took the bearing off, you didn't need to and, you didn't say anything about the way your supposed to put them in. the hole in the edge of the upper ball joint has to go towards the car, yours didn't. You must charge by the hour, that must be why you took apart more than you had too. other than that great video.

      he didn't have to remove the hub assembly for one, good video for beginners don't get me wrong , but to much work, the knuckle and assembly could have come off in one piece, sometimes those assemblies can be a pain in the ass to get the top bolt off , he added 3 hours more work than needed

    • @GodWasAnAlien
      @GodWasAnAlien 6 років тому +1

      Yeah I second that, could've just swapped out the upper control arm first, hung the hub and knuckle with it strapped up where his brake caliper is as one unit (set the caliper on a bucket or something), and then changed the lower ball joints, put the knuckle back on, and then the tie rods. Done.

    oh and after taking off half that stuff, and before you attack that cv joint, pop your upper ball joint to loosen it, crack ur cv joint loose, drop the upper ball joint carefully let the steering knuckle assembly fall forward and this will free up the cv to come out, bunjee that cv up out of your way and go from there as you did in the video........might be helpful to do full explaining of you popping ball joints in and out, with the proper tools and spacers, just sayin

  • @ryerob741

    no need to take caliper off bracket, no need to take hub off steering knuckle, no need to drop outer tie rod, no need to take abs sensor apart let alone at the hub(follow cable up over upper control arm into and under the inner fender near the frame is a weather pack electrical socket, pull on clip seperate the two leads, remove clips along control arm and "wallah")
    so nice job explaining and editing vid, but don't try to make a living doing this, haha......
