Let me correct you a bit. The difference is here between our military and civil leadership here is that military utilizes the budget allotted to them in the projects to modernize itself and keep up with the times. Meanwhile the civilian leadership eats the entire budget up to fill their own pockets.

I think Indian Armed forces should focus on replacing the old equipments with new state of the art equipments ......then we should focus on increasing our military hardware

All of this will be enough to contain suaristan and chindistan. Suaristan was never a threat we can crush them under our feet whenever we want. Threat is chindistan and we are preparing well to counter them. Also numbers don't matter here India has strategic advantage over China.

Unlike India, pak armed forces are powerful enough to force their govt to procure whatever systems they require,even with a low budget, where as in India we follow a systematic DPP which still faces many hurdles.

True, Military reforms change of admin structure has been come to halt after the death of CDS Hn’ble Bipin Rawat. Corrupt Babus and Officers see their greeds on the stake of country. Pak inducted todays fighter, we have to compare us with China. But we are mere in competition with Pak. Our defense budget majorily going towards salaries, pensions, dependent system and personal honours like facilities instead of R&D and process advancement of procurements. We learnt we need light tank after LAC stand off where were our planners from 70 years what they were doing if they dont know terrains of country they are defending. It always amazes me that despite lop sided finance of Pak govt and a stumbling economy Pakistan somehow has managed to survive and sustain it's military. The present economic condition of Pakistan has been since 2008 yet they have managed to survive and keep their military upgraded.

This is because a strong military is mandatory for our survival in the region where from east it is surrounded by hostile India and from west Afghanistan. We need military power for our survival and for the security of our people. I see many Indians saying, look you don't have money to build a dam or that but you are using your money on defence, the fact is we have to focus on defence because of security situation in region and for our survival to external threats. And only military power can guarantee your survival in the region we live. And the first step towards prosperity is survival. If we survive, we can prosper.
BTW, Pakistan being weak economically is 9th strongest nation, and can give huge India a powerful punch. If you want to test, just come😁😁

@@anshul9462 Thats the narrative sold in india that Pakistan's economy is stalled. Its not stalled, its just slowed down because of the security threats to our country. Whatever our economy is, people are eating and living in our country happily as evident by the global happiness index. We have industries, manufacturing hubs and mineral resources. and we are working to make our econmy better than before. Pakistan economy is better than many countries in the other regions of the world.
And the military funding is not unnecessary, it the need and still our military is not funded properly with the amount it requires to match and face the threats that we face in the region. Keeping in view the geopolitics, we need more funding to equip our military for future threats and to invest in defence research and development.
7.8 billion dollars is a very low budget for 9th powerfull military.
From west, we encounter regular incursions and aggression by indian sponsored proxies and in east, India showed aggression in 2019 and tried to bomb our side, we faced and responded effectively because of our miliary power.
Since you are an indian, you will not take these things seriously, but people that are responsible for the this country knows what we need.
The biggest problem with Indian armed forces is that most of the times we are replacing the systems , replacing old with new. We aren't adding the numbers !

Pakistan signed most of these contracts in 2017-18 when their economy was doing relatively better (read functional). In fact many contracts were signed in the last days of Nawaz govt, when their military knew their economy was about to go burst and they wanted to secure their own interest. This short sightedness has led to their current state of economic affairs.

Their modernization does affect India but not as much as people say.
Pakistan is more of an irritant which is expanding its arsenal.
We need to make some changes on the western to match Pak. Our main threat comes from China and our preparation is generally at that level.
Even with all the equipment you can get, the willpower is what drives and utilize anything.
We must not forget how 1 SU30 was against the full package of F16s and JF17s and still they didn't even dared to cross the border.
So Quantity vs Quality debate can be ended with Willpower.

We have 3rd Highest Defence Budget but still fail to Modernise Army, Air Force and Navy whereas Bankrupt Pakistan with even Low Budget Modernising its Army, Air Force and Nvay Faster than Indian Military. India is busy issuing and Scrapping Acquisition of Crucial Weapons but talk about Two Front Wars. We are also testing Many Weapons but don't know whether they are going into Mass Production or not
We have our own howitzers, carriers still will take ages to finalize truck mounted howitzers. The prototypes presented by Kalyani, Tata,OFB will go into endless trials and nobody knows when will get approval from army.

I don’t think so, their military is out of proportion of their economy. The more weapons they buy, the more stress it puts on their economy.
Clearly means Pakistan has gotten into an arms race with India and has taken the bait - hook, line and sinker!
Buying equipment on loan is one thing but over its lifetime an assets operational cost is higher than it's acquisition cost - so good luck!

Problem with in our country it takes years and years to take any decision many of them even 20 years, once the decision is made it is not implememted it has to go through military/ administrative/political bureaucracy which gets somewhere, then if clears those hurdles, by that time there is a new political setup in the country, the new political setup cancells the decisions of the previous political parties, these is the saga of our defense acquisition.

Well, it was expected.... We ourselves are moving at a very fast pace when compared to Pakistan and even if they do Manage increase their number of equipments by substantial amount they would lag behind even in quantity and the trend of comparing ourselves to China and not Pakistan came into relevance because if we manage to outperform China Pakistan won't be a problem as we can now just assume that they are an extention of China but yeah, never underestimate them.

I don't think anybody is ignoring Pakistan, people are only saying if we focus more on China, Pakistan will also get covered because they are going for the same equipment. But only focusing on Pakistan will not develop our offense and defense capability against China if we take into account the scale. Also if Pakistani military is going full on Chinese tech, then it will be interesting to watch how much US tech they are able to avail in future.
Both india and Pakistan are in replacement mode. They are replacing their old obsolete stuff with latest Gen weapons. Old submarines tanks and planes will be retired for new ones so it is not as dire as you are making it. Yes Indian defense establishment should move faster.

See if u buy/ purchase any weapons for other countries so u r dependent on that country to supply the square parts, ammos, etc
For eg:- ur f-16's the Pakistani f-16's maintenance is done by turkey or china
If only they allocated some of these funds for the development for the country they might not be so much into debt lol still its a worrying situation for India and we really need to kick up a notch our own modernization program especially the infantry related programs (better guns bulletproof helmets vets communications etc)

Inorder to sustain in a war ,military might doesn't matter if u can't afford to continue the war. Economic condition of a country also affects the results.
For rapid modernization you need an extremely strong economy. In Pakistan,s case that doesn't directly affect their military inspite of having a weak economy because the military of Pakistan has no regards for the Pak people, their welfare or any other sectors like education healthcare or welfare. You cannot underbrush any enemy and Pak ranks amongst the 10th strongest militaries. Combine Pak and China and that's a really high threat for India. And no USSR is long gone, today's Russia mired in its own geopolitical scenarios and extremely close to China as well will create more hurdles for India.
Indian Navy needs to focus on the immediate requirements with it's increased budget in the next 1 year-
5 Refueller Ships
8-12 Minesweepers
3 Additional Scorpenes should also be ordered in my opinion which will act as a proper replacement for 4 Type 209 subs that will retire in the next 10 years. These 3 subs would be delivered 2025 onwards uptill 2027. It will also provide cusion to Navy & act as a stop gap measure till the time we don't sign 6 P75I subs deal that will still take atleast 2 years to get signed. Since our DRDO AIP would likely be ready for active operational use in another 1 year, we can fit it on new Scorpene subs from the beginning while on the current 6 during their midlife refit.
Also, Approval for AoN should be granted for 6 indigenous SSN in collaboration with France (for more powerful Nuclear Engine tech.) under Project 76.
By 2035, we should aim to have 15 SSK + 6 SSN= 21 Submarine fleet (excluding 4+3 SSBN since it comes Strategic Forces Command).
Army needs to focus on fastracking the Field Artillery Rationalisation Plan (FARP) till 2025. This will have a dual effect on our preparedness for a 2 front war-
1. Ordering of 800 Truck Mounted Artillery Guns would be extremely helpful in Mountains (mainly against China in Tibet & against Pakistan in Kashmir). It would significantly enhance our firepower in Mountain Warfare.
2. Heavier Towed Artillery Guns like ATAGS, Dhanush, Bharat 52 would take care of Pakistan front in the plains to a large extent. Some of it might be deployed on China front like Ladakh (Depsang Plains, Chushul etc. type plain areas).
3. Additional 200 Self Propelled Howitzers K9 to the existing 100 would ensure adequate deployment on both fronts.
Also, Army needs to ask DRDO to fastrack development of longer range Rocket Artillery systems like Pinaka Mk2 ER (90 kms) & Pinaka Mk3 (120+ kms) that would ensure long range artillery effective deterrence against China & Pakistan both.
Government needs to pay special focus on the emerging needs of IAF over the next 5 years-
1. Require more fighters as well as adequate support towards indigenous programmes
2. Additional Tankers & AWACS
3. Focus on Drone usage in Warfare, specially Armed Drones.
In my opinion, IAF should order 12 Su 30 + 21 Mig 29UPG in the short term + work on operationalising it's 13 out of 21 Mirage 2000 recently ordered (rest to be used as spares). This will ensure we get 44 Jets or almost 2.5 Sq. of jets over the next 2-3 years. This will help proper phasing out of 4 Sq. of Mig 21 by 2025. We are already working on upgrading of inventory of fighters with better weapons & i believe we would achieve 90% self sufficiency in this field in another 5 years.
Need to enhance the Surveillance fleet. Order 2 Additional Phalcon AWACS from Russia for which DAC clearance was granted in 2020 & get all your 17 IL76 Transport Aircrafts & 6 IL 78 Refuellers upgraded to IL76 MD 90 A standards which will significantly improve their servicability rate. Sign Project Cheetah to upgrade the Heron Drones with better ISR & Armed capabilities.
IL 76 upgrade will play a big role in our deployment against China & Pakistan & would take the pressure off C 17 & C 130 for load carrying to a big extent. Then we can focus on IL 76 Transport Aircraft majorly on Pakistan & C 17 having still better serviceability rate against China. C 130 would be the Strategic Airlifter to be used on both fronts along with C 295 & AN 32.

Tejas Mk2 than planned) (we as it is don't require more than additional 72 ideally). 36+ 90 Rafale = 126 Rafale which perfectly fills up the MMRCA 1.0 requirement of 126 Jets.
Under this 90 Jets deal we might not get more than an assembly plant in India (not Make in India) but what we can request France is to make India the MRO Hub for it's customers in Gulf & ASEAN. So we would take care of Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul of all French equipment in Asia, ASEAN & Gulf.

Our authorities who make decisions regarding any kind of defence procurement are damn slow. They takes years to decides what they actually need and then again years of time for finalising the deal.
Moreover during the course of these deals many deals are either reduced or cancelled.
Now India has also cancelled procurement of predator drone.
Submarine program are also hanging in limbo.
Central government follows tender issuing mode on defence equipment buying and manufacturing which is viable in civil projects not defence.
They are modernising faster than us but look at their average people living standards is it really worth it

In Nuclear Arms ,Pak has an edge quantity wise as well it possess full spectrum of nuclear weapons due to possession of streatgic Nuclear Arms(which we reducule as paav paav bhar ke bomb).They can break up our advance bases(Contonmements and garrisons and can cripple movement.
2.Besides what U said,Pak Navy is getting built a number Shallow Water Submarines capacity 5 ton in Turkey.Aim is sea denial streatgy against Indian Ships/ Cargo .These small cost effective submarines will have be able to perform all functions of a Submarine ,they will have superiority of numbers and may pose a serious threat to our Naval superiority in waters around India.
3.Rafael may be sandwiched btwm J10Cs of China, Pak ( estimated numbers of J10 which can be deployed against India in two front war will be
530 J10s against meager number of 36 Rafaaels. Besides this am turning blind eye towards threat of j20 & Hypersonic Missiles, Direct Energy Weapons capability of which China has shown against US F15 & Psydon surveillance plane of Australia.
3 If ouf ballastic missiles are intercepted, China has streatgic depth which will help it protect South China.Depth/ cushion of Tibbet prevents India Airforce from deep prnetration into China and Chins is in total control & command of entire South China Sea.

Pakistani military acquisitions are not just qualitatively inferior they are also quantitatively fewer... The Indian military's artillery has already inducted 100 K9 Vajra and 100 M777 howitzers and more K9s and M777s are being inducted.... as soon as army runs out of excuses ATAGS will also be inducted in large numbers. Infact Indian superiority in artillery is a major reason for why Pakistan wanted a ceasefire along LOC... as for Navy there the difference in numbers is in orders of magnitude, Indian navy operates over a 130 ships from aircraft carriers to Corvettes from SSBNs to conventional submarines and adding more at a pace.... Indian airforce also similarly now has now with improving experience and armaments of Tejas and Rafaels have both numerical and technological superiority. Not to mention Indian missile defense like S400 and offensive missile forces are far larger and far more potent with everything to Brahmos to Agni and K series missiles. So I have to disagree with you, Indian military preparations far outstrip anything Pakistan has to offer.
They may modernise the hardware but will they be able to 'modernise' the people who will handle this hardware? Very doubtful

So basically amca will be more powerful cause some of its system will take from 6th generations fighter program. But overall tfx will be good, but in this Pakistan will not have any experience, if pakistan make any fighter jet, or go for project azm then that would be better.
