I was driving with my boyfriend from california back to fort collins. We picked up two girls on the way who were hitchhiking to the dead concert. Had a big fight with my boyfriend so i got out with the girls i think 3 days prior to the concert at the camp. With not a penny in my pocket they fed me and i had a place to sleep. A guy showed me mother marys face in a crystal. I still remember how beautiful it was. The day of the show i hitchhiked to fort collins. Never heard of the grearful dead before because im german.

I love the way you can hear Jerry’s voice ricochet off the Massive Red Rocks during Ship of Fools . The Dead always the best sound system whenever they toured.
These were the first shows I attended and I had the time of my life. Camping at nearby Chief Hosa campgrounds the center of Shakedown Street. I tripped the whole 3 days and probably took another few to come down to earth. I was with good friends good weed and strong acid. We lived in tie dye munching down hippie chow and drinking beer. The run was good and the first and last time I got to see Brent.RIP Jerry Vince Keith and Pigpen
@@michealgolombik3536 so many stories from those two weeks of travel. I was with my friend Shea and she told me they were playing. It was the closest Id have them so I took off the same day! With 50bucks and lots of acid in my pocket... what long strange and beautiful trip that was!
This was my first of many weekends with the boys on stage and the family in the lot. Changed my life !!!! Thanks for the memories. If the rest of the weekend is available I’d love to see it. Much gratitude peace and sick licks.
Ship of Fools, sail away WITH me... Outstanding! Thank you Voo Doo for all that you doooo. Much love, very grateful!! Thank you Jerry, Bobby, Micky, Billy, Phil, and Brent (et al)...
Down to Te-hell-you-ride, but up, up, up thru the pass into town proper. Never seen so many VW buses broke down on a road! But every human made it up to get in! Great memories from the whole week!

Loved the Ship of Fools. Made my annual summer trek (since 82) (living in Iowa then) to Red Rocks and to see the band. Heeded the band's warnings and Bill Graham's to not go to Telluride. Bummer, but several days later saw Neil Young & Crazy Horse at the Rocks. Been living in Colorado since 94 so am spoiled to have as my backyard. Looking forward to Furthur next week! Still miss the old days, but Red Rocks is always magical.
and the bees made honey in the lions head. Jerry has been gone for 18 years now. I love couch touring keep making the honey my brothers and sisters like Voodoonola. love you.
Saw the three Dead shows at Red Rocks, but we all heeded the band's and Bill Graham's warning about going to Telluride with no tickets. Fortunately we got to see Neil Young & Crazy Horse do much of Live Rust stuff - big amps and all...(bring it back after 8 years) at Red Rocks, and then we found out they had lots of extra tickets at Telluride anticipating an onslaught of heads. Oh well, it was a fun trip!
You are one lucky dog , man! Red rocks is a bucket list trip for me. Just to bad it won't be to see Jerry play. I did have the Honor & pleasure of seeing them perform 13 times up and down the east coast over the years. Greetings from the sunshine state. :) , :) , :) !
I was lucky enough to see this run and Telluride. Maybe it was me, but I felt the atmosphere/setting was better than the actual shows. The highlight for me in terms of the music was the Estimated Prophet from Red Rocks, and the He's Gone was strong, too. One memorable thing happened: while I was just about to enter through one of the small turnstile entries at Red Rocks, a tripping head jumped the turnstile right in front of me. At least two big security guards caught him immediately and said to him, "Where's your ticket? Where's you ticket?" Then, this guy standing by, a stranger, pulled out a ticket for him, and said, "Here it is." And the head looked at him as though he were Jesus. Miracled after crashing the gates...The '82 and '85 Red Rocks shows are superior to this '87, imo.
I was there as well, it was a helluva time, 5 shows in Colorado in a week, it was sort of blurrr...Sadly, I thought Jerry had really turned the corner, he looked 20 year older than he did in 85.
82 is great, 83 I would rank maybe first above 82. 84 - my lowest rant of GD at RR,. 85 - with the exception of tall stacks in day time shows (1st (9-5-85) was not bad, 2nd day - terrible, and 3rd fantastic), Overall 1987 was not bad, yet during that year they played short songs, and shorter shows...most of which were tight and well, yet less exploratory.
I was in Telluride too. I have a great photo of the Grateful Dead sign with the mountains in the background. It was such a cool place for a show, but it was not a great show. The band screwed up brokedown palace and Jerry blamed it on the altitude. LOL They had speakers throughout telluride with the music playing it was so cool. The day we arrived, Jerry and Brent were hanging out in a bar just talking to fans. The good news was they had a lot of more great years ahead of them. If anybody would like a copy of the photo, let me know.
The guy I was standing next to at fare the well on the 5th said his first dead show was at red rocks in 1987. I wonder If this is the one he was talking about. He was a nice dude from Seattle and I was glad to share the show with him. I met some really great folks at fare thee well, I'll never forget that weekend. I was too young to see jerry, but at least I saw those shows. I already wish I could go back to that weekend, us deadheads really took over Chicago.
Thanks my friend! Thank you for the time that it takes to post these videos and sharing them. Thanks also to GDP for not demanding that they be pulled from the site.
Oh my god do I miss that wonderful man who I will love until the day I die & he better b there for me because I told him all about god ,Aliens ,ghost plus the after life of what he would c on the other side ! He didn’t like being worshipped or the dolls that were made in his image ! He told me much more but this is enough for now !
Funny, this was at the peak of their popularity. I believe touch was still in the pop charts. I never made red rocks, must've been nice. Keep up the great work Voodoonola, Thank You.
i think i was the only person who actually shaved their head when jerry passed on--; jerry's dead, shave your head...' i did it on a lark. im not really a dead head but a fan. jerry was not a hippie but a beatnik. i can't believe it's been 20 years. dude rocked.
+Travis Crum I certainly didnt shave my dreads- but I did quit my job on the spot- as I found out while I was working. Candlelight visual in Bushnell Park Hartford that night... then Max Creek did a free show in New Britain... then off to Springfield where I met Bob Weir the next day. Told him "keep the dead alive buddy!" .He was in a daze... we all were...
Does anybody remember the 8/13 Row Jimmy when somebody on Phil's side near the stage fell and hit their head and the EMT people were literally trying to bring them back to life? It was surreal. The band was watching the whole thing go down. Then the guy came to and stood up. The paramedics made him sit down and they took him to the hospital, but everybody there thought he was dead. It was intense. I will never forget that. Also, I agree the telluride shows were not great, but what an incredible place. I have the best photos from that place. If you don't believe me that the shows were not good, listen to Brokendown palace. It is really funny. They started in wrong key and Jerry finally stops the band and says we are playin in the wrong F'n key. Must be the mountain air.
I was there that night when the crowd open into a big circle I stood my ground as the crowd went by me pushing their way Out I look to the center of the circle there was a man laying down on the ground with another man on his knees holding the man that was laying down. The man was yelling does anybody know CPR I was much younger then had long blond hair a scruffy Little Beard with a red t-shirt with the bottom ripped off it grey shorts and a canteen over my back. I was trained in CPR in the military so I thought to myself go and help that man so I rushed to the man kneeling over the man that was hurt lying on the ground and as I got closer he kept yelling does anybody know CPR and when I kneel down to see if I could help the man that was holding the other man that was lying on the ground got up and left I looked and listened and I could see he wasn't breathing his face was black and blue his necklace as well so I tilted his head back and started to give him CPR after a couple of attempts air come rushing out of his mouth along with some spit saliva into my face and I could see he was breathing as I felt relief I stayed with the man for a bit and I noticed that the Medics were coming with a stretcher and leading the way was a friend of mine who had been on the tour with me and the rest of our family a brothers and sisters. as soon as the Medics approached me I had done the same thing that the man did to me that was helping him in the first place I got up and walked away. I was standing a distance behind in the shadows as friends of mine came up to me and asked me if I was okay. I told them I was okay I wasn't hurt. I watched the Medics try to convince the man that was hurt to get on the stretcher and let them take him out. the man that was hurt stood up stayed in the show as I continue as I continue to watch over him from a distance he was no longer interested in the show but instead looking through the crowd. I was assuming he was looking for me. I mean with long blonde hair a little beard and a silver cross dangling from my neck in his face and with moccasins on also canteen as I gave him mouth-to-mouth he might have thought he seen Jesus. I felt good that the man I survived okay and with a few caps and some music sheets that I had indulged in I continue to enjoy the show with the rest of my family. later on I had found out my friend who went and the medics. had seen me trying to help his brother. and his quick thinking was to get help. For three nights I kept a candle lit peace sign up in the mountains where we were camping. after all these years and have gone by I still remember Red Rocks as one of my most spiritual tours that I've been on. all so Telluride. I still hear Jerry's voice to this day saying to all my sisters and brothers keep the faith.
Cool info, thanks. If you look at his final interview a few months before his passing, he looks like he's no younger than 65, and a bad 65. Yet, he had just turned 53, sad. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it.
Saw the famous Punk band whose name I forgot and hitched a ride with my friend by Allen Ginsburg and famous writer lover, with a long pony-tail like I.
Wow ship of fools. Goes to show when your somewhere within the amphitheater dancing ya miss the view. I would never of thought Jerry got that excited during Ship unless watched this here
I think Jerry might've been pointing at someone who was holding up a flag, during ship of fools. "Don't lend no hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools." Bobby is pretty pumped up during PITB, as well.
Garcia did not have a 'slight' illness. He got the fuckin' hammer. In a coma for 2 weeks (what his body went through, kickin', basically cold turkey?? They gave him liquid valium, that he was allergic to. Right there, that kick the fuckin' hell out you. He kept working, for whatever reasons, the cat kept truckin' (no pun intended). Garcias' music and his playing just kept getting better! Shows, East Coast, were phenomonol, JGB, included, '94 was awesome!!! '93!!! Garcia didn't stop working, it was like, he didn't look to see if anything wz coming. Who knows who, but SOMEbody(s) got rid of his Dr., Randy. "They" didn't like Randy traveling with Garcia? That's some fucked up shit, right there! So, how much did Garcia say, "Fuck it.", to? Even if he felt lousy he kept working. ......he puts himself on a fuckin' in-patient meth program, probably did a couple of push ups, sat down and fuckin' croaked. Stupid fuck. The people around him, killed him. "Those" that got rid of Randy, wouldn't let Garcia go somewhere, in a September. "THEY" are evil fucks!! "Those", "I saw them coming out of the woodwork like cockroaches.", killed him. BTW GREAT SHIP OF FOOLS! Great first set!!!! GREAT!!! show! Thanks for uploading, you never miss!! + we have the visuals?!! Right on!
Lizzie Sangi ...yes '94 was awesome. Some great shows .....check out 10/10/94. Best Franklin's Tower since the '70s, if you ask me archive.org/details/gd94-10-10.sbd.wiley.14198.sbeok.shnf

Crazy Fingers indeed....and so much more.
(well...nine fingers anyway) :)
Thanks you Jerry,
Magic, Voo, Magic.
Cool info, thanks. If you look at his final interview a few months before his passing, he looks like he's no younger than 65, and a bad 65. Yet, he had just turned 53, sad. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it.
Thanks for making my Monday easier to deal with. Peace to you brother.
This is so much fun to watch!! Thank you Voodoonola, you're just the best!! :)

Special place and a very special show
I hopped over a concession stand to get in. Tough ticket. Next night got a ticket from cops for climbing on the rocks above
Killer jam on Sugar Magnolia!...thanks for this!
Saw the famous Punk band whose name I forgot and hitched a ride with my friend by Allen Ginsburg and famous writer lover, with a long pony-tail like I.
Thank You!
They always sounded better at alpine & red rocks because of the natural background that worked good for them !
Those good ole days!
Wow ship of fools. Goes to show when your somewhere within the amphitheater dancing ya miss the view. I would never of thought Jerry got that excited during Ship unless watched this here
Jerry all fired up during Ship of Fools! 20:30
GREAT audio!
20:30 - 21:00 Ship Of Fools
Jerry getting into it!
Thanks 7 years later. Was looking for it. 🎃
Was at this show on tour from 84 til 95
I think Jerry might've been pointing at someone who was holding up a flag, during ship of fools. "Don't lend no hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools." Bobby is pretty pumped up during PITB, as well.
Saw the dead at the Rocks in 82.Rained alot but when your in the clouds it doesn't seem to matter.
Fantastic show. Thanks man!
One of the best!
Isn't amazing the difference between analog and digital. Technology really has progressed in the last 25 years.
Jerry pointed right at me during Ship o' Fools. Really.
I believe it, we saw them in Des Moines in 1981, and we we're allowed to sit on the edge of the stage. Jerry nodded at us a few times.
Wow Jerry! SOF! Sing with soul!
Glenn Donovan ☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻

I AM ........DEAD
oh yeah CRAZY FINGERS
Right on!

crazy fingers is such a lovely and lyrically poetic song... sigh. poor jer, he missed these lyrics so much in mid-80's. beautiful outro though
