In 2015 as a 19 year old, I stumbled upon this video while over the moon on mushrooms. I am confident when I say that clicking on this video is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life so far lol. I still come back all the time. Much love everyone 💙⚡️❤️
It's amazing how something like that, which doesn't seem like a big deal at the time, can change the course of your life. That's the power of music for ya' ( and drugs, I suppose..lol).
@@tommyroxx6538 Very true dude! Finding the dead helped me find all the other jam bands in my life that I love! What a night though I was just in my room tripping for the night and during the drums/space I was peaking hard so I was just laying in my bed. The estimated/ shakedown had me on my feet the entire time. VIBES ❤️⚡️💙
Can’t wait for Mansfield Dead and Co. 2021!
@@zachlewis6633 absolutely
I hear that brother!
I saw the Dead with Hamza el Din 2 months before this show in San Francisco. Absolutely incredible. The power, fluidity and finess of Jerry Garcia's playing is truly astonishing and eternal. I'm so happy I got it.
Jerry where ever you are, I want to thank you for leaving
us solos that we can savor and explore for centuries to come.
@7:28-12:59
I knew JG would help this November, and he came through for us all...who else could have orchestrated a complete takeover of the wicked Tr**p party? Thank, JG! I INVOKED YOU!! IT WORKED!
Amen!
Amen man,thank you
@Buster Jangle: thanks for thinking to invoke Jerry. Whatever. Something worked, thank heavens . Sadly we may have to call again on Jerry. on Bird, Miles, Duane. A whole tribe of folks to rescue us from a repeat in 2024.
Honestly, I do not think Donna gets enough credit. Her tenure with the Dead produced some beautiful music and her voice perfectly complimented their music.
many deadheads get carried away by sexism
Yeah...sexism....🙄
Donna had some rough cuts in 72, which many people tout as the pinnacle of Dead music and some listen to EXCLUSIVELY... Bad move lol
Every other year with Donna she's just as on as the rest of them (with as little as she's featured)
You gotta remember she was a seasoned session singer at a time where that really meant something, and she could improvise killer melodies when she wanted to (GD Movie Scarlet)
To everyone who is bothered by her flubs during her very first year of performing live with a very unconventional band that she was a superfan of (you know how much you like the Dead? Well she likes them more...) I recommend listening to some 73 Dead, or 74 75 76 77 78, OR just don't listen to Donna shows lol
Yeah, she added a lot of depth. Guess she had to go with her hubby though. I wouldn’t trade them staying though because Brents backing vocals were even better. Would have been nice if she came back after Keith died and had her and Brent backing, would have been phenomenal.
I think she's good here, especially on Sugar Magnolia.
That was a great venue to see bands in. Bands always gave their best performances. It's been closed for many years now.😢
Bruce 78 legendary. Kittys back. 🎉
In this here video, Jerry's playing sounds just like saxophone (phrasing-wise)...
What a master!
I love how funky and disco-y this set sounds. It was 1978 and they were picking up the vibe from the prevailing musical style and incorporating it into their own. Musical chameleons who always stayed anchored in their own sound. And Donna's vocals are syncing in perfectly here. Love.
Recorded back then so all could enjoy for years to come. Good idea! Thanks to all who recorded and videoed The GD!
Beautiful recording...thank you🎉
Love this so much I have to go back to it every time I can ! Thank u very much for doing this for us old Deadheads who will love them forever as I do until I die ! ❤️🐰🐇🌹🎵🕊️🪽☮️😘😍🥰🥳👽🪐🛸🚀⚡️😥🥲😢miss them so much !

This wonderful band was like no other ever in this world or other worlds !
Band beyond description ❤

🌹⚡💀🐺🏞️🌬️🇺🇸🍃🍊👍🛣️
I love the rhythm guitar
Bobby was on fire from 71-78
The last days of Keith and Donna. A slimmed down Wall. After Egypt. Capitol Theater. #JerrysKids
z
Capitol center's acoustics are amazing circle of sound
This is still my favorite Estimated of them all-
Saw them at giant stadium. It was the last show before they went to Egypt. Willie Nelson opened. This is the dead I remember
Jerry we will always love 💘you and you will always be in are hearts ❤as Greatful dead fans we love you Jerry were ever you are we love you 😎
Bro, whomever you are (thank you) for sharing. This video had been up for yrs and someone recently took it down. I was heartbroken 😂.
Anyways, much thanks.
ME TOO
Good ole Grateful Dead 😎✌️
Forever and ever GRATEFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!💃🏻
Great music, cool visuals. I like this little set. Also I like how Bob has his Rockstar moment in the beginning and Jerry just kinda stalking the stage and jamming.
Holy SMOKES!!! What a shakedown jam.. wow. Thanks bruddah!!🌊🏄♂️🌊😁👂👀
Thank you SO much for posting - was having withdrawal symptoms. This is the BEST!
Same here 😁✌️
ME TOO. My husband and I were devastated when the other video was gone.
I know Gerry had a throat infection but this is some of the grooviest gd you can find anywhere
@@ianmcdonagh9696 who's GERRY ? 💥✌🙃🕳💥
This is a beautiful groove, write you are. Weaving webs (7:00 on the shuffle). Ohhhh so nice JG !! My fav.s ... And playing that Yamaha CP-70 portable Baby grand piano gave Keith a little more room. Cosmic ramp to the 80's ... This was one reason I got one way back but shit... It didn't come with a piano tuner. What a Pain in the Ass..........
I was at this show. Great time.
Cornell 77 was my first show but THIS is bad ass.
Isn’t Cornell 1977 considered a classic show?
I can not get over 12:52 how Bob knows exactly where Jerry is jamming and effortlessly relays to the band they’re going to Shakedown Street. I don’t believe they planned on playing it. I’m convinced they improvised it.
It’s not like there was a smooth transition though. It’s just a mess and then another songs begins.
I recently read an article about how the dead would do set lists for their shows, and to put it simply: they didn't. They'd choose a first song & a last song & then be calling different songs throughout the night. Nowadays they will plan out a set but there's something magical about not knowing what'll happen next which I believe is why so many deadheads are deadheads
it looks like he literally says “ we are going to shakedown street” love it
Yes!
Wow the guy + Micky on the hand drum was perfect !
Dinna Jean “Looks”&Soinds Incredable (of course).
Bobby started playing really great in this era.
Amazing Estimated!
Thumbs up
Excellent sound & just thank you!
Pure perfection
one of the BEST mixes and sound quality ever heard!!------fidelity is A+++
Bobby’s the best number 2 ever and humbly embraced it. 💚💚💚
Crystal 🔮 Clean version. My apartment porch is on 🔥 tonight 😁😎🎶🎵🌌🌝🌙⚡❤️🤍💙⚡
What an incredible upload! Thank you so much
Love this upload, love this era of the Grateful Dead
Can't quite grasp how well he played this night considering how sick he was. Unbelievable.
it was his game 5 of '97 moment.
Pneumonia, wasn't it?
Because he had to.
Jerry almost died the day after this show. He was in a hospital on a ventilator. Listen to his voice near the end of this show. They cancelled the next night in New Haven, Bobby coming out to make the announcement to a full house, and then the rest of the Fall 1978 East Coast tour after that.
The look on Jerry's face during his solo on Shakedown Street. He obviously didn't feel well, and yet sounded amazing.
@@tinyfrogs he performed, he’s a god
Do you know what was wrong with Jerry at the time?this was before his heavy heroin use
What happen to him?
@@analogkid4957 Perhaps Smoking Freebase Coke or perhaps just pushing too hard or both .
Ah-h-h-h-h. So good for my soul. Great to see Keith and Donna. Great to hear. Thanks much.
Audio came out pretty good. I can hear each instrument distinctly. Somewhat rare.
thank Betty
not rare with the dead
Wow, this sounds sooo good for 1978!!!! I've seen other videos for late 80's and the sound quality is half as good as this!!!! Sounds like you're in the first ten rows!!!
I suspect this might be a recording plugged directly into the sound board, definitely sounds superb 😊
On e of the finest live recordings ever!! Like you were front row in a small club!! Superb!!!
@@usernamesrlamo she was on the board
@@MichaelDarlingCo They had state of the art sound equipment. They had the best sound of any live band especially for those days
Awesome video! They sound as good as I remember them sounding way back then.
Jerry trying his damndest on fire….this was a “gold ticket Deadhead only show”….the Capitol was a monumental memory maker
magnificent!...
Hey Jupiter, I agree, especially around 1976 when they worked on their harmonies more, you can hear it ,and I'm ok with Sunrise and Heart of Me, great Jerry licks on both!
Pretty fuckin sick...... thanks needed it
Ya donna soundin good on this one ❤️
Her shows sans panties were magical. 😉
LOVE it (
Of course)!
Good stuff!
Unreal...whoa and WOW
This is my Dead !!!
“1978”
Twenty Years of Age .
Yeah 69, 72/73 even late 80zzz great… but this is my feakin Dead 77/78 . Zero Fs Given 🕺🏻
I was there with Stimler. Thanksgiving weekend home from Ithaca. Check out Jerry's riff on Fire just after 43:33.
It was not because Donna couldn’t sing but she took up space for the boys to move plus Keith never smiled !
One of my favorite songs was smokestack lightening which u never get to hear ! 😊
Saw the Providence show just after this. Brings back memories of hash and cid.
Jerry is masterful here...
I think the crowd are kind of stunned worried this band is gonna start doing lots of disco-ish tunes. In hindsight we know they only did a small handful, so it was okay. And this Shakedown is a beauty.
I think you might have sniffed too much glitter!
The crowd was never anything but maybe too high
But far from worried about the band breaking out with any Disco
Personally I love Disco and would have lost my shit to hear them break out with a Disco Duck or whatever
But the countless shows I’ve been to live never once was any disco sound incorporated, a lot of Funk and out of this world jive but no disco, and definitely no worried audiences ever!
Lay off the glitter ‼️ 🤣
This was when the Dead were at their best. Late 70s early 80s incredible live.
I was there! It was surprising at first.
I called it "DIsco Dead"
They must have been in light years⚡️⚡️the very music of there’s that truly ran true,, and then some
This is an essential dead show, and it’s not even on an album
Shake Down - The boys showed their disc side back in the day ! ++! Still sounds great
sometimes feels like it's gonna be late, it's jangled and chaotic..but it's not. Not late, zactly! It's field and form and it is work. And then after during and before that thing emerges. Maybe fully formed, maybe still work. there it is on time, in its space
just the right amount of cowbell
And there’s an awesome Drums > Space > Fire just before Sugar Magnolia, too.
Joy
bringt mich sekundenschnell auf gutelaunemodus, besonders ab minute 33/34! trancemukke, deadhead for ever!!
Wow! This is why I'm not down with the Donna haters.
Shakedown at 13:00
I love 12:55 Bob asking Bill or Mickey “What’s he going into”
JG kickin it
This song needs Donna.
That FUNK
That's Hamza El Din joining around the 33:30 mark. Check out hid Al Oud record from '63 or-so.
Fantastic performance. Mesmerizing. Hamza El Din.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could check out my playlists and comment.

Now I speak. !!!
disco dead luvz
I was there
Jerry never looks at neck , he just knows
Don’t get wrong Jerry’s solos are cool, but his rhythm stuff is out of this world.
Why O why has this not received an official release. The segue from estimated- shakedown is worth any price od HDCD.
ha ha ha this is awesome
its all on you ! you know who im talking about
Looks like Mickey liked Phil's choice for "Fire."
🌈
Wolfie🐺
Did u c Jerry put his hand up to his ear because he couldn’t hear himself over Donna + Bobby came over to help him because of her ! Did u ever c Keith smile ?
Why can't I get volume on this? Is it just me?
Why would you leave Drums>Fire on the Mountain out of the title of the video?
Jay

WHO would downvote this?????🙄
33:23 hamza el din
Hamza bought us all an ice cold Stella beer at the Mena House the morning of 9/15. Such a kind and generous soul. "Hamza!"
Only 4,000 views....sad
It used to be uploaded on a different channel with a ton more views and this was just recently uploaded to this channel.
Check out the video of 4•12•78 Cameron Stadium Duke University if you want to see a smoking 78 show in black and white (Jerry dancing, jumping and windmilling).
