I've been thinking that would have been a perfect end for the show for almost a week, so THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS. Now, we can all pretend season 8 never exist.
This was the ending Castle had, plus the scene with kids. Andrew Marlowe and his wife were the ones that understood castle. With them, leaving the show after that season, Castle was never Castle, the show changed so much. For fans, at least, for me, this was the only finale the show had. (plus the kids scene, of course)
You're right. If The Marlowe's understood it, why did they leave? It seems like the ABC brass had something to do with the beginning of the end of the show. After they left, it changed the footprint of the show. Would be nice if The Marlowe's renewed it at some point on a different channel, but it has been a while, Will & Grace are coming back this fall. Although John Huertas has a commitment as a supporting cast member to This Is Us now.

@@pioneer_1148 I personally didn't like Haley. To me it felt like her whole purpose of being there was to replace Beckett. It also really annoyed me how many bonding moments she had with Alexis. For years I had wanted more bonding scenes between Alexis and Beckett but no, instead they just introduced a new character and had her bond with Alexis instead.
Agreed season 8 was just a mess. Its such a shame such a brilliant show went out on such a bad note. Though Haley was great IMO. Also from what I can tell Nathan Fillion was vile towards Stana Katic on set. Although its hard to tell, the more reputable (if there even is such a thing when it comes to hollywood reporting) sources all seem to claim it and the tweets around Katic's contract not being renewed make it pretty clear Fillion wasn't exactly sad at the prospect of carrying on the show without her. Though looking around I found camps of die hard Fillion fans praising him as the infallible lord god almighty, other camps decrying him as the antichrist and yet others claiming 'he's rich and popular so he must be a dick' so take your pick.
The one we got in crossfire- l think Kate and Rick died and the seven years later part was what they were imagining their lives would have been like. It just doesn't fit with the rest of that episode and I know it's because it got cancelled, but still.

I like this version bc it feels less cut-and-paste and both conclusive and open at the same time...conclusive in that it ends positively and open in that the fans can imprint their own 'next chapter' (re: write their own fanfic to satisfy themselves)
i like how this was put together. put I'm glad they did season 8 we got closer about castles disappearance in season 8. we got to see which track beckett chose.
I cried so much back when the season finale came out 😭 I was terrified that Castle would get cancelled and so many questions would be left unanswered. After watching season 8, I'm almost wishing it ended with this scene. I don't feel that this season, the final season, was good enough for a great show like Castle. I'm left with the feeling they deserved more, not from the actual ending because that was amazing, but just from the entire story. I didn't like how the story developed in the last season. I'm ranting, but I just love this show so much 😓
This ending to the series is perfect! I wish they'd put out a Castle season 7 special edition with this ending. I didn't like most of season 7, so I didn't buy that DVD set. However, if they put out an edition that had this ending I would totally buy it.
This was a better ending with the entire main cast along with Jenny and Tori in one scene. Despite how things end with Nathan and Stana, they persevere for the fans. The best thing they did in season eight was the introduction of Hayley, she was a great addition. P.S. LT would forever be the only recurring character from the start until season eight.
Entire season 8 felt half-assed, like they pulled SokAtt, or whatever was his name, cannot even bother to remember, was rushed and out of blue. Not to mention, some fucking Caleb. This is a perfect ending to the series

No. They don't die. The authors wanted to do a ninth season without Beckett, so that's the reason of Caleb shooting them. But then the series was cancelled and they pasted that "seven years later" part, to make us know they survived that. It sucks.
