My friends in Spain they all use it.I dont and i wont at 74 i will stick to old fashion reel.I must say the advantages are great like being able to pick up line during fighting a fish and not worry about tabgling your feet etc.yes i Knoe who pablo,the fireman ,is i have seen him fishing never talked to him,,,he i sone heck of a machine when it comes down to fishing,Now retired and my wife from santander i sepen 6 months here fishing Cantabria,Leon specially,etc.Your videos are great.My best to you.
10yrs ago I had already convinced myself this was the way to go, but finding somewhere to buy one online (that was prepared to ship to US) proved harder than I expected. Thanks for making them available in the US. If I fished as much as I did 10yrs ago I wouldn’t hesitate.
Looks fun as hell to use! I’m sure people will get all pissed off at these things in some form of fashion. Def thinking about buying one looks like a ton of fun. Streamer fishing from a drift boat this would be extremely useful.

I felt for you how session two went - especially with the hook in your toe but loved how you still found humor in that day-with the huge pig and horse staring you in the face.
Thanks for reading. Humor can be the best medicine when things get tough. It can be hard to find it sometimes but trying to find something that makes me smile always helps a competition or just a tough moment go better.

My kids got me a Yoto 30 for father's day from you and I love it. I kind of wish it had a handle but for what I'm generally catching it's fine. Balances my Hardy 10'2" 2wt and my T&T 10' 3wt well in my opinion.

Like you, I would go with Peux bc of what it offers. Unfortunately, price point is a bit high. Don’t get me wrong, great idea. I need a drag system and a handle. Good review🔥🙌
Are there any used reels you want to get rid of?
My choice y Franco Vivarelli tuning with a Peux Revival kit and spool.
Came here for the comments... Got my semi auto 20 years ago and still can't believe it's only a thing in Europe. The lack of drag has been fixed for a few years now.
JMC Yoto30 isn't expensive and kick ass for a third of the price of a Peux.

I'm sure that anyone who try it gets convinced, and from that moment doesn't want anything else. I happened the same in Europe when they started using automatic gear cars, once tried never go back to manual. For fly fishing is an advantage, but for European nymphing is a must. just check the book " Contact nymphing" to fully underdstand
They aren’t for me. The core reason I love fly fishing is feeling that line in my hand and fighting a fish with it. I can see where it is effective for catching a boat load of fish, but at that point you are really getting into spinning rod territory.
How can I have l lived this long (don't ask) and never heard of auto and semi-auto fly reels..??!! Not so sure they would be right for me but thank you for this education.
Thanks for the video Devin. In the Intro I could see a Yoto 30 with an additional handle. Is this available separately? I could not find any and made one for my self that does the job but a professional solution with counterweight would be better.
The reel you saw was actually the JMC Iberia. It's similar to the Yoto but designed specifically for Euro nymphing.
Do you think it’s possible to be able to take up slack if you’re stripping a fish in? I’d guess it’s dependent on being able to keep the line under control with your index finger, and still be able to actuate the lever.
I take up the slack while stripping fish in by triggering the lever with the ring finger and pinky of my line hand as I reach up to my rod hand to strip the line.
Would this pull a bait trap?

Yes. I did a number on my last pair running through thorn hedges at this year's world championship. They got to stay behind :)

We actually shot the video a few weeks ago but JMC discontinued the Iberia and we didn’t know it yet. They have a Yoto Nymph reel that is due out next month so I’m planning on waiting till I can review it and add it to the video.
Are the models you carry what you consider the better brands? Are any American brands planning on making these?
Yes, they are the best reels I've come across. I've looked into quite a few others, but most are either plastic composite frames or they lack drag systems entirely. There is a start up in Wyoming called O. Clarkii reels that is currently working on a prototype.

For most of my everyday river fishing I am using semi autos at this point. However, I still use a traditional reel for trophy trout or steelhead applications where I want higher drag pressures.
I missed your wader question. I like the Orvis waders a lot. They have been very leak resistant for me. We will be adding them to the shop over the winter.
i've had the orvis pro zippers for about a year now, and they're great. hold up to ice, rocks, branches, thorns, and the zipper is great for getting on and off over winter layers, but also for pee breaks.
the pockets are useful to pack gloves & a hat, but also for stowing gear for minimalist spey trips.
Definitely a ‘nice to have’ not a’ need to have’…..

Do we REALLY need these? I don't fish competitively so I don't see a real need for a reel like this. I primarily saltwater fly fish, and although you need to bring line back quickly at times, I don't think this type of reel.
Whether you need one or not is up to you. I'm simply letting folks know about something that isn't widely talked about in the American market.
Edward Mlotkiewicz - You might consider that some folks REALLY need this reel. I don’t own one, but you can bet I’ll have one ordered ASAP. My left hand is damaged both physically and with nerve damage. It’s difficult to grasp the reel handle and equally difficult to coordinate the cranking motion, though I can grasp the line. To this point, I’ve just had to live with it and get by. This reel could be a game changer. Thanks, Devon
