Ordered some 8010s as my first set of monitors. About double my initial budget, but the more research I did, the more I was turned off by all of the other monitors in ~$1000 and below (a pair) range. I am not sure why one would advocate for anything other than the flattest possible frequency response. If I want to have to guess if my mix is good, I'll just put my beyerdynamic 990s back on and induce massive hearing fatigue. I will probably need a sub though, once I have another grand just lying about 7040 seems like a good choice.

@@malibustacy3606 in 2006 I A/B tested Genelec 8020 monitors to KRK Rokit monitors in Cologne while on tour in Germany. These little 8020 monitors cost twice what the Rokits cost and were half the size of the Rokits but sounded just as powerful if not more powerful and much clearer with definition in the tops the midrange and the bass. It was actually obvious why the price of one 8020 was the equivalent of two Rokits. The quality was really twice as good. I completely understand Floyd Hartman's statement. "What a major upgrade!!" I bought those same 8020 monitors right there and had them ship them back to the UK for me. I still use them to this day

    • @Mtaalas
      @Mtaalas 5 років тому +3

@@RoomAtTheTopStudio This is why rokits are sold in pairs and genelecs are sold individually. Rokits need to match the units that come from the line to each other, because they all sound a bit different.
Genelec instead creates such a good monitor, that each individual unit is as good as any other and you can trust that what ever units you pair up to stereo or 5.1 system, it's going to sound as it should :)

My bedroom is roughly 11’ x 13’ and the speakers will go on the 11’ side of the room. And the room has a large bed, wardrobe etc all in it and I’m making it into a bedroom studio and the monitors will also be my casual listening speakers.. was looking at Adam A7x going by various reviews and also it’s in the budget. But Genelec would have been ideal.. though way more expensive. The 8030c are little more expensive than the adam a7x whereas the 8040b are double! So will the 8030c do the needful or will it be small for the room? Also maybe 8040b might be big for the room as it’s 90+90 W. what do you guys think?

hey there. if you haven't made your decision already, i highly suggest saving up for the genelecs.
I upgraded from the adam a5x to genelec 8330A about a year and a half ago. when i had the adams, i could very clearly hear that i was listening to speakers. with the genelecs, i don't hear the speakers, but rather, pure sound. i've listened t to systems like amphion, barefoot, dynaudio etc. none of them can really do what genelec manages to do in terms of stereo image, resolution, and accuracy. the only brand i can think of passing up genelec for is ATC and even then...

I love Genelec! In my bedroom studio i have a pair of 8030c which are playing in correct Phase and they are amazing. Took me very long time to get them in phase. And few months ago added the 7050b Sub. Also took me few weeks finding the right placement and phase behavior, once you find it they blow you away! Very musical Subwoofer! Can hear the lowest octave with ease and very flat! Cinema Music or OST is also mindblowing. Just having a small room with some QRD Diffusors and two full range Absorbers and actually compared to my other room dont need much more. They play very very musical and hear all the details i also hear on my Focal Spirit Pro Headphone. So truly happy as you get professional Gear! At very reasonable Pricing! Cheers.

you can use them out of the box. GLM only applies to SAM series monitors. i currently use sonarworks/soundID in place of GLM and it works phenomenally. even with 2k USD of acoustic treatment i prefer calibration. nothing is better than hearing everything flat, and in phase at the listening position.

John Iadevaio the 8050 sounds great. I bought another 8050 so that I could send the broken one off to genelec, but then the 2nd one suddenly went out on me, again, out of nowhere, just like the first one. So now I have a 3rd 8050 that works, 2 8050s that don’t work, and I’m back to using my krk v8 series 1 monitors again.
At my facility, other than the 3 Genelec 8050s, I have krk v8 series 1, Krk rokit 8 series 1 and 2, mackie hr824, Adam a7, Adam a7x, Yamaha hs80, Yamaha ns10m, aventone, Alesis monitor 2 and ADSl910 for mid and far field monitoring.
Only downtime due to speakers was from my Genelec’s. As far as sound, I enjoy them and my Adam a7x the most.

SourceDistributionTV In my room plus many times in various other studios. The sound of 8000 is weird, dry and scooped in the midrange and very polished. Sometimes I had the feeling that I was listening through a hi-fi system or an expensive car stereo with loudness on.
I sold 8050’s and went back to 1031, couldn’t be happier! Mixes translate perfectly, something I was missing with 8050!

Trying to decide whether to get 8040's or 8050's. Damn it's a hard choice, considering the huge cost of these things.

What about the bass of 8040B , i am too puzzled to buy either 8050 or 8040 ?

@@aseelriyadh1556 Yes, I was surprised at how well the 8040's produce bass, being only 6.5".
Really, unless you have an abnormally large room, the 8040s produce enough bass.
In my case, they are producing enough bass down to 36hz. Then it falls off very quickly.
I have considered getting a subwoofer for frequencies below 36hz, but it really shouldn't be "needed".
As I see it, the problem with 8050s is that you'd need to sit quite far away from them. Already with the 8040s, you need to keep around 1.5 meters away from them in order for them to sum correctly.
Therefore, I think you should really consider 8050 to be a mid-field monitor.

The problem I found with the Genelec's was that the were fatiguing up close where I need them. It was too over powering. They only sounded good to me when I moved WAY back from them and then their "spread" became clear. Like 10 feet back or something. My music space is much too small for a monitor like that. I needed something that sounded great with them 3 to 5 feet from my head so I went with the Neumann KH120's. To me they were much nice sounding with an amazing spread up close.

@@rpaulseymour yeah exactly. I use them for listening about 90% of the time as well and I love them for that too. To be honest though I've never really cared all that much about speakers being "flat" or "colored" for listening. I just get used to whatever I have and it's fine.
5 years later I still have them and they still sound amazing to me.

@@Leopardipzg It was at a music store so I just listened as they had it set up.
I suppose there could be ways to change settings to make them sound better near field but ultimately the Neumann's sounded fantastic right away both in the store and when I got them home. Overall I just thought the Neumann's sounded way better. Especially for my application.
