Check out Genelec here: www.genelec.com
Huge thanks to Mikko at Genelec for helping me with this system! It’s amazing.

Hey Guys, thanks for watching this video on the new setup
I just want to clarify, as someone mentioned the price of these particular monitors - yes they’re expensive! But as I mentioned genelec do a wide range of great speakers that can fit in most budgets - Hannah has the 8020’s and I’m always blown away with how good they sound. There’s a ton of great options!
Honestly man, you're at the point in your career where you can easily justify having this type of gear at this level of expense. I'd be willing to put money on that a large chunk of your supporters aren't professional musicians, working on mainstream production, or mastering, and that is totally OK! Your work and quite literally, your life, revolves around music making, and I think you're exactly the product-market fit Genelec was hoping for with these monitors. You've made a great point regarding Hannah. They do make other AMAZING monitors for other price points. Signed a guy with HS5s and a HS8S sub in his office, haha.
@@ihateyourgutsspending all that cash on a wedding for 1 day that doesn't change anything. Or invest in equipment that will continue to support both you and your partner for the rest of your life . I know what one I'm choosing
@@ihateyourgutswhat do you even know; that comment is ridiculous.
Thanks I'm genelec user too, and a lot of people don't put the price on their audio interface and her monitoring, and with the GLM it's a great option, me I've got the 8320 whose are more little but with the bag, I can move with my genelec and always have the sound of genelec everywhere I am, and it's very confortable
I'm wondering: when I used acustic foam on my walls, it got kinda damp underneath where I attached them and the wallpaper came off. Now you're using that foam even on your ceiling, doesn't this cause problems?
10:50 cheeky shroud tease, Bea knew that would be the first single
Congrats Rabea. I've been a Genelec user since 2012. I love them. Hope they serve you well.
Cool stuff big daddy… love the new room … its really nice when you have an environment that inspires creativity …
Words can't describe how much i love behind the scenes content! :D but truth be told, im just as excited seeing your channel thriving!
Dudes been on UA-cam for 20 years, not like he's just starting out
Thanks for sharing your journey. It’s inspiring to see how you roll with the changes and keep moving forward. You always seem so genuine and I appreciate that. Rock on!
I agree, Genelecs are AMAZING! I have a pair of 8040 in my home studio. I work for the distributor in Benelux, so I also had the chance to listen to the bigger systems, it's absolutely stunning what they have achieved with those.
Congrats on the new workspace Bea! It’s lovely as are those Genelecs 🎉
So excited and happy for you! NGD is always great haha. Can't wait to hear the new music you'll produce thru those monitors etc! 🤘
I’m 100% jealous, looks like an awesome setup! Congratulations!
Rabea, I've been going through all the Grinding Gears volumes in my car ever since your last upload...
Super excited about what's coming next with your new setup! Thanks a ton for all the great tunes, dude!
Yes! I also have the Genelec 7360A subwoofer and it's a beautiful monster! It will vibrate your whole house!
Congrats on the new set up. Looks awesome. I bought a pair of Genelec 8030's over the holidays for mixing at home and love them.
10Db down at 90hz is going to cause major headaches. please try repositioning your speakers closest to the back wall and fill the back cavities with medium density mineral wool.
the joy of rediscovering how your music sounds when you upgrade your monitors/room correction etc.. is intense =) , i'm using 8020s with a sub in a tiny room, with some EQ correction, it's brilliant, hope you're doing well man , greetings from Luxembourg
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Genelec monitors:)!
Sick set up man! Stoked for you and this new space. I recently got a sub for my setup as well and it's been so helpful. Great for tracking bass too! Way more inspiring than monitors alone.
SO happy you went this direction; I'm mixing Atmos in my 7.1.4 room on all Genelecs and every day is a treat to go to work.
Revere I bought my first computer 3 years ago you were one of the first people that I ran into you and the captain and chappers I always loved your playing so I've always kind of checked in on you from time to time and you're doing exactly what I've been doing for the last couple of weeks man totally rigging up this board and this interface and these compressors and preamps
Awesome. Enjoy.
By the way, I happened to watch a video of you from 7 or so years ago. You look amazing today. Such a transformation. Wonderful. Love you man.
One of the best channels in the YT. Congrats Rabea! 👏👏👏
Bro Every time I get a chance to watch you, OUT of respect I thunbs up ❤❤❤❤❤❤this IS the new way to support your fav artists
This is why I love this channel, you learn and then we learn.
Rabea that “Tone of Kings” gives me hints of John Scofield with your spin on it, love it!
I have the same speaker system at home for producing / mixing and I agree it’s freaking amazing!!
Great video, dont know anything about recording or monitors at all but found this really interesting to see how things work behind the scenes mixing and setting it up.
Loving the production and behind the scenes content! Might have to see if there are any budget Genelec speakers out there as I keep hearing good things about them.
Much love, sir.
Great Stuff look forward to hearing more
Your "Totally Tricked Out" Now.....Leading edge of the Envelope of UA-cam production ! 😺
It's all so beautiful. Enjoy your new space and allow it to inspire all the incredible things to happen there. I am pretty sure that we mortals are about to be treated to some Devine creations.
Really cool video. I’m gassing for some of these badly. I have 8040As right now, which are great, but these look like another level.
Hey Rabea, that 80Hz'ish dip is a quite common issue in smaller rooms.. you know.. because.. damn physics. That dip in the bass range on the measurement is a "room node". In other words, in your listening spot, the direct sound waves from your sub and its reflections from the walls cancel each other out to a certain degree. Unfortunately, this is an issue that cannot be solved with a system correction solution (such as your DSP-based one) alone: The DSP will boost that range, but that means that also the canceling energy of the reflections is boosted by the same amount, which in total does not change the result much - you will still have a dip in that spot, while you might find a huge bass build up in other spots in the room. However, you can treat that node quite easily with (big!) bass traps, and/or a change of position of the system (mainly your sub) and listening position. Have fun in the new space!
Needs to do a sub crawl.
Do you put the sub where the bass builds up?
@@Notinserviceijbass traps are usually placed in the corner with a big air gap behind them.
Great setup
I first heard about Genelec in post production stuff for TV / Film and my GOD do I love them
That is a pretty awesome . I would these in my small setup.
Great vid and looking forward to seeing more. Could you do something on advising on monitors for different budgets for us home players and recorders?
Very cool setup bro! Man i can only dream of having a setup like that one day.
Congrats on these babies! Always was my dream to buy a pair of (any) Genelcs 😊 quite a game standard. Anyways. Like, subscribed, and love shared ❤ Gonna keep listening to the Gears Vol. 4 hehe
Hot Damn I just love Stretch's vocals. But sweet new setup man!
Love my Genelec's 😍
The Vower tease at 10:51!!! Sounds awesome dude.
Shroud tease
“Even da Box is Bassy” …hilarious
Grat’s on the new Room Rabea and a window is nice! let some natural light in on breaks etc.. good4U bro
It’s very incredible Rebea from Josh
Totally agree about guitar tones sounding great on Genelecs. I just upgraded to a pair of 1030A's from the 90s, and they have noticeable morth girth and power in the low end and low mids compared to what I was using before.
I got a pair 1030As from the 90s a couple years ago and they are great!
Kali IN-5's strapped to a Kali stereo WS-6.2 subwoofer giving you a superb 4-way system for about £1500! The biggest no-brainer in studio audio. That's what I have in my purpose built mixing room and it sounds fantastic. 😎
I recently got the IN-8s and I'm blown away by the quality for the price.
Awesome, can't beat buying new speakers :D. Will take a fair few hours for them to settle in also, so can only get better!
amazing dream setup enjoy!!
I've had the really big 8361As for about 9 months, and they are seriously sick. End game monitors for me.
I got Genelec 1031As 20 years ago, plus a subwoofer. Thx to great folks at Rockshop, Karlsruhe. Little did I know how perfect they are for my music, mixing, or blasting guitars through them.
I love the look of Genelecs! Would love to own some one day. At the moment I use Steven Slate VSX as I don’t have a treated room, and this allows me to mix in various settings and mixing rooms.
those monitors sound wicked mate
I just added a pair of Barefoot Footprint 2s to our control room and ran the Sonarworks calibration system to tune up the room. Literally like a 500% improvement. We went from prosumer to PRO in about an hour and we have a roadmap to make it even better (could use a little more lateral dampening.) Unbelievable results.
Oh yeah, I have the small 8320A for Years now and with the GLM system its just killer stuff.
Lovely Gennies. It‘d be interesting to hear how you experience the differences between your monitors that you have in the separate rooms. Had the 1030s a long time ago, which for me sounded too nice, and then switched to kh120 which sounded more neutral (oc, given my room, ears, etc.). But am sure the new Gens are as fabulous as they look 😊
Who else thought 2112 was about to start playing at 9:18?? Great video congrats on the new space
What an incredible space you’ve got man congratulations!!!! What are you using for power conditioning and voltage regulators? Cheers mate!!
Is that a fucking GONG?!?!
Switched to Genelecs this year after a lifetime with Dynaudio and I am so so so happy.
In my budget I chose the Adam A7X's around 6 years back, paired with a Monkey Banana 10" sub and really loving my monitoring as well
Bro, calibration mic facing up, come onnnnnnn. Welcome to the Genelec crew!
Glad to see this type of tech in studio monitors, my marantz home cinema has a similar system with setting it up. Maybe my Yamaha hs7s will be replaced one day..
Nice!
That old room had a look. Gonna miss it!
Enjoy! I've had my little Genelec 1029A's for 22 years now and they aren't going anywhere!
Couldn't belive how you where able to mix on those Neumanns. They are super dark compared to everything else I've worked on(Focal, NS10ms's, JBL, Genelec, Barefoot, KRK, ATC, etc.). Except for old Urei's maybe. I personally love the One's! Great stuff right there. Prefer them to Focals(which I run now) but the Focals where cheaper. Wish I would've saved another 2 years to get them, but that's all hindsight now.
Quite hilarious really the change in sound before and after the calibration! At first you think, meh my monitors are crap and the post calibration you’re like wow that’s fantastic! So simple and yet so profound! Enjoy!
Have the same setup! Best ever but should point the mick straight up
I can add that guitars are pretty delicious coming through my Adam A7X's as well, if someone has a more mid-price budget. One of the best purchases I've made overall in life lol
great setup, great hair
I have Adam Audio A7X monitors. I didn't know how much I was missing until I got the new monitors. Super Important.
As a long time user of the Genelec 8050B I can affirm they are great for mixing guitars, especially heavy guitars.
Before them, I had a different brand of monitors(I will not put their brand name for their sake :) ) and my mixes were always sounding off.
On every system my mix sounded different.
The moment I started mixing on the 8050's that was it.
My mixes now sound great on every system!!!
I'm not a fan of subs though or DSP correction.
I think they take out of the sound more than they give.
For getting the low end response correct. I have my own made 3 way monsters.
Only the big genelecs can compete with them😉
Those are sick 🤘🏻. Did an unboxing while watching this myself. My matching 2x12 cab for my vx kraken mk1 and a sm57 and royer 121 came in today #afrotones
Looking unreal, mate, what was your educational resource for mixing, if you don't mind me asking ?
Hahahaha!!! That opening is great.
You calibrated the space with 2 adults in the room and a massive cardboard box. Those three items will have a substantial effect on the callibration.
Genelecs rule! Been using them the past 20 years.
The attic had such a nice flair! Made you very relatable, like the shredder kid living under his parents roof😅
Still, nice upgrade!
Got to say, most guitarists I know will happily spend thousands, or tens of thousands of dollars on guitars, on amps, and combined on their pedals and cabs or computers and plugins, but will get stingy and complain about the price of studio monitors and acoustic treatment for their playing/recording/mixing space. Go figure.
I hope you new set up works out and thanks for the walk-through in this video. I hope these are the right choice for you and looking forward to hearing your mixes in the new space.
Good upgrade and very cool studio by the way. I do have the same tuning system in my 2.1 JBL speakers from 2009. it's nice but I don't like it even though I am in a fully intreated room. I have learnt by the time how they react in every frequency region by listening thousands of well produced references in all genres and the bumps and dips that every speakers on the planet has don't bother me when I have to mix or master a song. I've starting mixing on old Sony hifi speakers and I do believe today that we can mix on any speaker as long as we know them very well. I'm even able to master on an audio pro bluetooth speaker from Sweden and it sounds as good as my main monitors except for the stereo representation, so I use my monitors or my headphones to check and tweak the stereo. Otherwise for those poor home producers in an untreated room afraid of bad representation I know something that works very well and will cost you less than 400€. Get a Woojer strap, combine with some bassy headphones in the sub region. it's magic. I combine the Woojer strap with a Sony WH-XB900N and it's really amazing. You will hear and feel everything from 20hz to 20khz. When I listen to a well recorded live performance with eyes closed at high volume it feels like i'm in front of the stage. Even for casual listeners it really add something.
Always something to learn thank you so much for sharing. J K Mid Coast Maine U S A .
Did you recalibrate the monitors after you put all the additional shelves up and removed the clutter/boxes in the back? I would assume in a small space like this it makes quite a big difference.
ive demo'd genelecs at work before and even the really little ones pack sooo much clarity into them!! but i'm broke af and Sonarworks makes my HS7's sound 3D
can you try the sonarworks id since you have the measurement mic and compare the curves with the gml ? maybe you can get different results... or maybe an idea for a future video? :)
awesome
I used these before. They are legit.
My university had genelecs in the studio and they were the much smaller speakers in the room and they blew the huge ones out of the water for vocals and guitars! Also i think i spy a spider-punk in the corner of the new mix room 🤔
Rabea, I'm curious to know what you are doing with your window blinds for sound treatment if anything. I noticed you had a panel to your left and the blind to your right so I'm assuming the reflections would be very different from each of those.
Rabea’s got a gong… 😎
10:27 you could see the sub kicking Rabeas eye in.
whar kind of e-kit? sick setp!
Mr Burns at Genelec thanks you 😂
Oh boy !! A 15000$ monitor set up!! It’s beautiful but I’ll put up with my Yamaha H8
Cool
Great vid. New subby.
The brief snippet of the “training” tone must have made my neighbours twitch because it sounded very similar to when I am doing amp profiling 😎
Good for you bro, my biggest hurdle is getting my mixes to translate. Sounds good in my mix room but thats kinda where it ends lol. I think that means my mix room isnt as well designed as i had hoped. I use focal monitors which ive had over 10 years and they really sound dope in my mix room with my jbl sub. But in my car my mixes sound awful. I gotta work on alot i guess
It takes a lot of back and forth, mix in studio, check in car, mix in studio, check in car again, doing this thousands of times, literally thousands of times will give you the association that you need.
This is harder to do if your room is a comb filter.. but having a good room doesn't automatically give your brain the association between the sounds in environment A vs environment B..
Hope that made sense
There was this car test plugin out there. Maybe you would find it useful.
Been thinking about some Gennie's for awhile to replace my 100 quid JBLs, (which have been great) maybe its time.
Cheeky little sneak peek from Vower. VERY cheeky
Yeah. Thought I’d throw it in there hehe
@@RabeaMassaad well we are very grateful and excited!

I've totally thought this was an interesting idea for a video but mine just isn't as interesting as yours thanks for all the tips I like the video of you listening you have to listen
i always thought that old attic was above andertons for some reason
