Too many fanfics are sad just to be sad. But I think this one earned it, with Discord growing used to the generations of caretakers assigned to him, and how it tore him up when the concept and weight of mortality really struck home.
However, it strikes me as odd that 2 generations of ponies were born, grew up, and died of old age after Discord was petrified, in the same length of time it took the last of the Mane 6 to grow old and die. The only explanation I can think of is Twilight having some sort of anti-aging spell.
Bill 1138 The story itself is what helps it I think. It’s why if I can’t get a good story out of a fic? I have mixed feelings. I try to be fair with my criticism. This one thankfully had very few issues.

This is such a touching story , i almost cried at the end , because of that letter of sunny meadow , the poor Pony , who desired to see Discord once more before she passed away , thats so sad
I... I don't have anything to say. This was just so, so... I can't even describe it. It was beautiful, sad, funny, heart-wrenching, and... some feeling that I can't describe all mixed up. It was a little bit of chaos mixed perfectly with a little bit of order. I doubt I'll ever see anything more.... well, just anything more than this. This story just tugs on my heart so deeply and strongly that I just can't help but fall in love with characters and story line. Even the bad characters help make the story a beautiful tapestry of magnificent indescribable beauty. Thank you Hoopy McGee, for making something as absolutely heart wrenchingly amazing as this story.

You made me listen to an hour long story being read to me, you held my attention for the whole duration, and ultimately, you made me cry. This was beautiful Doctor. Thank you so much for doing this. You don't know how, and I can't exactly tell you (partially because I don't know how myself) but you might have helped me a lot today with a feeling I had in my chest for a long while. Discord mentioning how the keepers of the elements of harmony die one by one over time and how Twilight was the last one to die because she refused to give up got me so hard in the feels I feel weak now.
One odd thing out with this fiction was how Discord seemingly didn't react to Sunny's death upon his freedom. I would have loved a moment of Discord speaking out of grief 'I never said goodbye... I never even said hello.' These specific words would have displayed his entire history with the Keepers. They have said so much to him and they never even really knew their words were heard, let alone would have been responded to. Another line such as 'She might have understood chaos better than I did' would have reflected upon why he valued Sunny so greatly... that he never enjoyed his own form of chaos better than hers. I might also have liked to have one more generation before Sunny, perhaps not even making this a family line at all. One fangirl like ILoveKimPossible who drools over him for a while and then loses interest altogether, giving Discord the first sense of grief over being forgotten after being loved. I wish that Fluttershy would have been more like Sunny.
Its called "Silent morn" ...some of use get struck so hard by the realization or even by shear words that it robs us of our own words and feelings in that moment.... discord will spend eons in morn of her in his own silence
Fluttershy DID end up like Sunny! As she and Discords friendship progressed she is shown to enjoy the chaos much like Sunny. The episode where Discord needs to plan one of their tea parties is the prime example. Fluttershy had been so excited to see his chaotic version of a teaparty only to have Discord act... Normal.
I honestly find this perfect because, well, its the same way he reacted to all the others. Sure he was closer to her then the others but in a way he was still close. This means that probably without even realizing it, he got used to mourning on his own and he accepted it, because he still knew that they would all die sooner or later.

I agree, but the question is how? The story is told from Discord's Point of view and he's is encased in stone for most of the story so how can he tell the story in the animation or audio drama? Then there is also the question of voice actors and who will do it? I would it's just that I don't know how to join many audio recordings together to at least make an audio drama
Honestly this is one of my most favorite fan fictions of all time. I believe this is even better than Past Sins or the Bride of Discord; Unlike that Nyx story, this has good character balance (and not out of character, I must say), realistic morals/events, not too long nor too short to read, great character reformation, and an uncomplicated but beautiful plot.
Emem There's also how; Twilight should be immortal, Discord is pretty "out-of- character" after he gets out, and Discord is imprisoned for a year and a half NOT 275 FREAKING YEARS! Also the biology/logic being too similar to humans or real horses.

Guess I haven't been in this video for a while. +Springy Plush64 This fanfic was written before Twilight had wings, which is why she dies. (Still though, we don't really know if Twilight is an immortal now. Meghan Mcharty said she wouldn't outlive her friends). As for Discord being OOC, yeah, he's kinda changed after he was freed in this story. But only his moral conduct has changed; the rest of him, they're all the same. He's still goofy as always, just not evil. It's the point of reformation, after all.
An interesting thought I had about the line of keepers is the red mane. Fluttershy's mom has a red mane. At first, I wondered if the reason Discord is so attached to Fluttershy is because she is part of the long line of keepers, and reminded him so much of Sunny Meadows. However, Fluttershy obviously died in this story (;-;), so that theory is out the door. Still, I think it's an interesting concept ^.^ Thank you so much for reading to us! I'm literally in tears. Ah, I can not describe the beauty of this story. It's so well written, especially in the view of Discord. There is so much love in it, and between the characters as well. The art just adds more beauty to it. Your voice is very calming and relaxing to listen to. Thank you for this, I love it very dearly! ^^

no because it wouldn't work as a actual film, the whole point of films is that it's s visual medium, this is a non visual medium, it's a story from the point of view of Discord who spends nearly the entire film a still statue it would work as a book but this is the best form, a audiobook with stills
I sat down not knowing what to expect. It wasn't long before I knew I was going to feel sad at the end of it, but I kept going. While I will probably never pick this up again, the emotions it hit me with were more powerful than anything I've read/felt in a while. Thank you for introducing it to me.
You know in my opinion Discord is very lucky that at least one just one of his statue keepers actually cared about him enough to actually keep coming back to him when anypony in their right mind would've just walked away and paid him no heed.
I was here when he was releasing it in parts... dear god every part had me on edge and every day I anticipated the next portion... and here I am again listening to it all together again... this fanfic hits me hard with feels... it is well written and well voiced too... but seriously if you want a more tense experience watch the episodic version and one per day... you will feel emotionally distraught thinking about the next portion :P

This.....hurts. Right in the feels. A being that has never known love finally has it, but his immortality makes the pain hurt worse. But at least, he now knows, that order and chaos must be balanced.
When I clicked on this I never thought I would watch the whole thing but I couldn't stop it. That was stunning. I got caught up in your voice doctor and the pictures and the story are so good. All in all a soul-stirring video. I love it ** thank you so much

Dr Wolf just wanted to say how very much I'm appreciating these readings. I'm binging on mlp-related content as a way of coping with the death of my grandmother, and the last few of these readings that I've been listening to, which have to do with the legacy a person leaves behind, have been very insightful and touching. It's brought me to tears more than a few times but thank you so much for the perspective and comfort.
I love this in every way, I've never cried from a story this much before. Such a stupid thing to cry over, but my whole life this has been my favorite show and im utterly obsessed with the thought of living forever. I just can't beleive how much I love this.
Let me say first, that this was not what I was expecting. At first, I kept listening just to hear a tale told... but later, it drew me in, and I kept wanting to find out what would happen next... just like in my favorite stories. The ones where you pull the covers over your head at night, and read by the light of some tiny hand held light... too good to put down, and far too good to stop. What I later learned to term 'page turners'. This tail was one of those. And darned if I wasn't wiping a tear or two at the end. Well Done. Enough from me, the Frank Pony
The only thing I can think of that would make this even better, would be to get the VAs of Discord and Celestia to reprise their roles for this story, and get appropriate sounding ones for each of the Keepers. Man, that would be (as a certain blue pony says) Awesome!

The chaos energy may have some side effects. Plus, as Discord said, immortality can be a curse. Losing your loved ones can almost be unbearable, but hundreds? That is a fate worse than death.
Discord could bring her back to life but she’d probably be kinda weird and even if she wasn’t she would only be the part of her that he knew so it wouldn’t really be her. Discord can do anything but not if he doesn’t know it exists. He could probably make someone immortal tho but once they die he can’t truly bring them back. That’s just what I think, but it makes sense to me

It's in my top five fanfictions of all time, I love bride of discord and daughter of discord too, and Princess Trixie sparkle. They are all touching but this one, I don't even know why it's missing out on the top spot, I guess the other fanfictions are just... more adventurous? But this one is really sweet... I still recommend those other fanfictions though, if it weren't for those, this would be number one

This is amazing!!! It shows that Discord has a caring heart even in his stone form and Celestia was amazed that Discord truly cared about the one pegasus who looked after him and his garden more than her mother and grandmother. But what really caught me crying is Celestia’s speech about how hard it is to be immortal when all the ones who truly inspire you and care about you is dead; but most of all, it’s always kind that the ones who passed away aren’t ever forgotten. It’s keeping their treasured moments close to your heart for as long as you live.
The single narrator did a decent job of putting on voices. I've experienced full audio books where a PAID narrator wouldn't even TRY to put on voices. But here, we have a labor of love that resulted in audio demonstrably better than the results of a few thousand dollars being thrown at a "professional" narrator. Putting on voices simply adds character to a reading. Even if the voice is "bad", it creates a clear distinction between the characters. This makes the experience more entertaining and it helps the listener maintain a clear idea of who's lines are who's. grate jäb
Upon seeing this video in my recommendation box I thought "an hour long I'll never get the interest to watch it fully through." Boi was I wrong I benged the entire thing while I was drawing and I will definitely come back to it!! I love this story it was so calm and relaxing it helped me to clear my head as I was making my own mlp comic watching this. I took what sunny meadows said to heart when i make my own stories so now i've decided not to think so much about my comics the least it will do is help my writters block from time to time. I had to admit i was kinda sad seeing how the poines passed. but afterall the earth has funny and mysterious ways of working out with the old and in with the new. if nopony or person ever passed the earth it's self would easily become over populated more than it already it. besides I know how death isn't easy to deal with but you still have family and friends to help you, eventually you'll heal and as Celestia herself said you heal from the pain over time.
If someone asked me to do better than this I would slap them in the face and say that this is perfect and no one on earth could ever create something as beautiful as this. Yes, this made me laugh, cry, and smile at the same time and that is something not many people can do. I want to sincerely thank you for the feelings you gave me here. This was incredibly beautiful. tears of sadness are no more, only tears of love, happiness and joy. Again, thank you for this beauty.
Oh god I don't know how long it's been since I cried this much but... wow. My heart is drowning in bittersweet feels. I love sad stories so I'm used to them for the most part but gosh... this has to be the best in ages - I was just openly sobbing, which isn't something to be proud of but it's a success of the story. You wouldn't even need to be into mlp to adore this.

Dam it ! I love and hate this story in equal measure. Beautifully written and evoking so many feelings it's frightening. You can't help but be swept along in the emotional river of it as the story flows on. I agree, but the question is how? The story is told from Discord's Point of view and he's is encased in stone for most of the story so how can he tell the story in the animation or audio drama? Then there is also the question of voice actors and who will do it? I would it's just that I don't know how to join many audio recordings together to at least make an audio drama

Honestly this is one of my most favorite fan fictions of all time. I believe this is even better than Past Sins or the Bride of Discord; Unlike that Nyx story, this has good character balance (and not out of character, I must say), realistic morals/events, not too long nor too short to read, great character reformation, and an uncomplicated but beautiful plot.
Emem Well in my opinion, the story gets pretty repetitive until the generation that beholds Discord getting out.
Emem There's also how; Twilight should be immortal, Discord is pretty "out-of- character" after he gets out, and Discord is imprisoned for a year and a half NOT 275 FREAKING YEARS! Also the biology/logic being too similar to humans or real horses.

As for Discord being OOC, yeah, he's kinda changed after he was freed in this story. But only his moral conduct has changed; the rest of him, they're all the same. He's still goofy as always, just not evil. It's the point of reformation, after all.

An interesting thought I had about the line of keepers is the red mane. Fluttershy's mom has a red mane. At first, I wondered if the reason Discord is so attached to Fluttershy is because she is part of the long line of keepers, and reminded him so much of Sunny Meadows. However, Fluttershy obviously died in this story (;-;), so that theory is out the door. Still, I think it's an interesting concept ^.^ Thank you so much for reading to us! I'm literally in tears. Ah, I can not describe the beauty of this story. It's so well written, especially in the view of Discord. There is so much love in it, and between the characters as well. I sat down not knowing what to expect. It wasn't long before I knew I was going to feel sad at the end of it, but I kept going.
While I will probably never pick this up again, the emotions it hit me with were more powerful than anything I've read/felt in a while.

I was here when he was releasing it in parts... dear god every part had me on edge and every day I anticipated the next portion... and here I am again listening to it all together again... this fanfic hits me hard with feels... it is well written and well voiced too... but seriously if you want a more tense experience watch the episodic version and one per day... you will feel emotionally distraught thinking about the next portion :P

I'm binging on mlp-related content as a way of coping with the death of my grandmother, and the last few of these readings that I've been listening to, which have to do with the legacy a person leaves behind, have been very insightful and touching. I love this in every way, I've never cried from a story this much before. Such a stupid thing to cry over, but my whole life this has been my favorite show and im utterly obsessed with the thought of living forever. I just can't beleive how much I love this.
Let me say first, that this was not what I was expecting. At first, I kept listening just to hear a tale told... but later, it drew me in, and I kept wanting to find out what would happen next... just like in my favorite stories. The ones where you pull the covers over your head at night, and read by the light of some tiny hand held light... too good to put down, and far too good to stop. What I later learned to term 'page turners'. This tail was one of those. And darned if I wasn't wiping a tear or two at the end.

The chaos energy may have some side effects. Plus, as Discord said, immortality can be a curse. Losing your loved ones can almost be unbearable, but hundreds? That is a fate worse than death.
Discord could bring her back to life but she’d probably be kinda weird and even if she wasn’t she would only be the part of her that he knew so it wouldn’t really be her. Discord can do anything but not if he doesn’t know it exists. He could probably make someone immortal tho but once they die he can’t truly bring them back. That’s just what I think, but it makes sense to me

It's in my top five fanfictions of all time, I love bride of discord and daughter of discord too, and Princess Trixie sparkle. They are all touching but this one, I don't even know why it's missing out on the top spot, I guess the other fanfictions are just... more adventurous? But this one is really sweet... I still recommend those other fanfictions though, if it weren't for those, this would be number one

This is amazing!!! It shows that Discord has a caring heart even in his stone form and Celestia was amazed that Discord truly cared about the one pegasus who looked after him and his garden more than her mother and grandmother. But what really caught me crying is Celestia’s speech about how hard it is to be immortal when all the ones who truly inspire you and care about you is dead; but most of all, it’s always kind that the ones who passed away aren’t ever forgotten. It’s keeping their treasured moments close to your heart for as long as you live.
The single narrator did a decent job of putting on voices. I've experienced full audio books where a PAID narrator wouldn't even TRY to put on voices.
But here, we have a labor of love that resulted in audio demonstrably better than the results of a few thousand dollars being thrown at a "professional" narrator.
Putting on voices simply adds character to a reading. Even if the voice is "bad", it creates a clear distinction between the characters. This makes the experience more entertaining and it helps the listener maintain a clear idea of who's lines are who's.

Upon seeing this video in my recommendation box I thought "an hour long I'll never get the interest to watch it fully through." Boi was I wrong I benged the entire thing while I was drawing and I will definitely come back to it!! I love this story it was so calm and relaxing it helped me to clear my head as I was making my own mlp comic watching this. I took what sunny meadows said to heart when i make my own stories so now i've decided not to think so much about my comics the least it will do is help my writters block from time to time. I had to admit i was kinda sad seeing how the poines passed. but afterall the earth has funny and mysterious ways of working out with the old and in with the new. if nopony or person ever passed the earth it's self would easily become over populated more than it already it. besides I know how death isn't easy to deal with but you still have family and friends to help you, eventually you'll heal and as Celestia herself said you heal from the pain over time.
I have never cried as much while listening to a audiobook/fanfic. This was great

Oh god I don't know how long it's been since I cried this much but... wow. My heart is drowning in bittersweet feels. I love sad stories so I'm used to them for the most part but gosh... this has to be the best in ages - I was just openly sobbing, which isn't something to be proud of but it's a success of the story. You wouldn't even need to be into mlp to adore this.
