First thing- the band was tight and sounded great!! The Tone Master delivered on all levels, to me the tone Seemed indistinguishable from its valve predecessor.
I just bought one of these Tone Master (the Super Reverb 4X10) a few weeks ago and i'm shocked by their capabilities. I've played several tubes amps for many years and I'm totally in love with my Tone Master ! On stage it sounds great, and you can go and play with it everywhere, studios, stages, even at home with that crazy attenuator in the back. The sound is always as good as you need ! I'm in a hurry to record with this mojo machine ! Try it, absolutely great ! Thanks Shane for all your stuff on YT

The thing about the blues is that we all know the chords and progressions, but if you can make it sound like you own it, and make it feel like it belongs to you in the moment? If you can pull that off? It's magic. You my friend definitely got the mojo. So much in fact, that I forgot this was an amp review video. Good stuff. Cheers!
Great show! That’s the thing with live gigs, valve vs solid state doesn’t really matter anymore.... the crowd certainly can’t tell the difference! The playing is all that matters at this point.
That statement is half true imo. If you have a SS amp playing hard rock/metal and there’s another guitar player with a beastly all valve amp, you’ll find the SS amps can sound thin and small in comparison. But that would depend on the type of amp the other guitarist is playing. I found this to be true in my experience anyway. But digital and SS amps are making a comeback! I say comeback because people (especially the younger digital amp generation) didn’t live the 90’s where there weee some great Solid State Amps for every style. For example we had Randall (even Marshall) that made some great Pro level amps for metal/hard rock & Peavey, “especially the late 90’s red stripe Bandit” that has been used in pubs/clubs more than any other SS amp in history. The 112 Red Stripe Bandit is still a great up there with (if not better) these much newer digital/SS amps. The real factor that made solid state suck for many years is “the low quality speakers and components” used, treating them as kids/bedroom toys. Look what Orange has done with the new Super Crush, they went back “old school” using the same high-end components as the Rockerverb.
@@jazznotes3802 The only current SS amp that beats the red stripe is the Quilter aviator cub . Red stripe sounds better than the Blues cube imo, at least from Shane’s comparison video that he did
That statement isn't true ALl of the time, although a lot of people don't know the difference. But people that love that vintage sound can tell he difference in most situations. However, with these Tone Master amps, nobody is gonna tell the difference. Idc who you are lol

Really nice to hear you play, sing and front the band. You do all three, well. My question about the gigability of these amps is unquestioned, now. If I didn’t have a (tube) Deluxe Reverb already, this might be my next amp. Some day I might still pick one up. We’ll see. Thanks again.
Shane your tone was pretty good on my iPhone. You can make any rig sound nice. I think you are one of the few you tuber gear reviewers that play live and incorporate into the videos. Very cool.
Now this is more like it!! You've come up with the best way to demo amps for us lot, now you've got to do the same with all the other amps you've demoed in the past!! Great stuff, even if the twin doesn't sound exactly like a valve one many people would opt for it knowing it worked well and sounded good in a band situation, I had a red knob twin and I dreaded flights of stairs,

What Jamal says is what really matters ... a guitar, pedals & amp may sound good in a studio recording or on UA-cam, but when it's used live, then only can you tell if it really delivers what an amp is made to do.
Jonathan L Thanks man!😁 I’m no expert player (only in my head 😄😝😄) but knowing that an amp can perform in a live situation is important to me as an investment. Damn! That sounded so good. I’ve been considering this amp or a Supro. Haven’t been able to make up my mind yet. The pro to not having to deal with any valves is what’s drawing me more to the Tonmaster Twin. It just sounds so amazing too.
Great review Shane, and to echo others, I forgot it was a review toward the end. PLEASE thank your drummer for the Masterclass in Hi-Hat technique... just sublime. One thing I would've loved was to hear *just* what the IR DI feed sounded like in isolation... maybe another time? GREAT) feed from one of these things could be worth the price of admission alone!?
Wow killer tones Shane. Its amazing how you can get a great tone out of every guitar and amp you play. My biggest thing against the tone master amps are the price. $1000USD to me is too expensive for a digital modeling amp. My blues deluxe was only $850. But I will say that it is probably the best modeling amp I have ever heard.

How does it sound with a distortion pedal? I'm sold on the clean/OD however on the fence with the distortion. Wait never mind I found your other video testing pedals. Sounds great. Now I need to ditch my Mesa Lonestar 2x12.
Great show, I enjoyed that. Seems like a great amp, I'm playing a Hot Rod Deluxe and thinking about the Twin Tone Master. Do you think The Twin 200 watt version has more clean headroom, so louder without breaking up? My Hot Rod breaks up at about 3-4 on the volume, with a Tele .. so I don;'t use a lot of my drive pedal, play fairly clean mostly. I'm with another electric lead guitar in a band, and a pretty loud drummer.. so it has to keep up without putting a mic in front of it. Hoping you can share some info on that?
First of all, GREAT playing all around! Tight and right blues combo. Awesome. The tone master sounds like, well, a Twin Reverb. And it’s plenty loud! I’m assuming this is one of those push volume from your amps to compete with the drums, and just put vocals in the PA type of gigs. It held up great for that. That said, any situation where everything is miced for a full PA mix, the TM would fair marvelously. Those lights. Dear God. Whoever installed those should just stop installing A/V gear. Lol. Next time you play this pub take an extra 5 mins to switch them to a solid color and it’ll be much better. I honestly don’t know why those LED cans even include this strobey sound active mode. It never ever looks good. Oh well. Again, the band sounded great and the TM did its job very well. I’m sold!
Thanks for the reviews on this amp. I’ve recently bought one of these Tone Master Twin Amps, and I’ve got a gig coming up this Saturday where it will be used live, so hoping the tones and feel are as great with a full band at higher output watts and volume as they’ve been at home with 1 watt at bedroom levels. I don’t think I will be disappointed 😎👍🏻
That is one smooth sounding rig Shane! Maybe a little too smooth compared to your DSL but I really like it! You're playing and improv skills are top notch, I enjoy the live jams a lot!
Shane, I do enjoy the digital amp that I currently use (Katana 50) but you are so right about the feedback. You can’t get that nice Hendrix/Pete Townshend feedback the way you can on a tube/valve amp. I never put together that it was a digital thing.
First off you play great and could make any amp sound good! I just got the Deluxe Reverb and still looking for the tone you get! A lot is in the player so I'll struggle on. Thanks!
Got mine this past Monday. Playing first gig tonight. Its very loud and harsh in the treble range. Will see how it goes tonight and might swap out some WGS Vintage Americans. happy to add the 4kg extra. I am always on smoother side of tone and under 20kg is still amazing. But at music room level it sounds huge!
I hope you will answer thid Shane. Would u br able to gig with the deluxe reverb tonmaster? Or do u need the twin to gig? I wanna buy one because of your review. But i cant decide which one!
Hey I recognize that bass player ! I wonder if I should wait until next year to buy this amp ,first year stuff usually has issues but with Fender you never know next year could be worse like the Mustang amps ! :-) Great review and demo as always mate ! :-)
See I'f you can find a fender frontman 212R that looks like the twin reverb and put some eminence legends or something like that in it and have way more amp for little money😉
Hey Shane, how close do you think the Mustang 3 come to the new Tone Master amps? Since I still own a Mustang which has a Twin and Deluxe in it, I’d be curious how how it compares. Thanks
The Roland is a straight up solid state amp so it feels a bit different to play. I would say in the mix the blues cube might have the edge in some ways, but the Fender clean is fantastic.
@@intheblues thanks dude. I still love the Cube. I really dig this tone and besides Marshall SV20c and Fender HR Deville 4 it s my favorite amp. It would be great to have an ultimate comparison of: Fender 60s Twin Reverb, Lab 5 - and - Blues Cube Artist, Fender Champion 100 Tonemaster Twin. To see which of the new solid states and modelling amps nail the B.B.King tone the best. (335 and Lucille models with varitone, 2nd position, 9 gauge). Thanx for the very helpful videos. Best channel on Blues and gear on the internet.
I like the natural feed back from a deluxe reverb and it's still to loud for most clubs on 3 or 4 with the master volume. I did use the reverb channel for channel switching for leads. I used a rack mount reverb / digital delay for slap back and delay.
Hi Shane, just came across this video again and when I saw it the first time, I had just got myself one. Just a question occurring now two years down the track, when you played at this gig, did you attenuate the Tonemaster down from full output?
Is there any way I could use the line out to a guitar power amp pedal then to a cabinet or two. I'm trying to have the sound spaced out on stage or practice room.
@@intheblues , I find it takes more effort to really get a good single coil drive sound than a humbucker without turning the sound into "Ass Salad". You managed to get a great tight Low Mid with balls. Well done. 🙂
I have two Roland Blues Cube Hot, one regular sound one British sound. Great little amps. I bought the Fender Deluxe because it sounds better and looks better plus the IR outs for recording that's a BIGGIE. One thing, the Blues Cubes take max 30 or so watts from the wall. The Fender Deluxe Tone Master takes max 300 watts from the wall but it's designed to sound like a 22 watt tube amp. The Deluxe power scales down to 0.2 watts. The Fender Deluxe uses 5 times the processing power and memory to get tube break up, reverb and tremolo.
@@QuoVadis88 the nextone is different from the blues cubes. Especially the blues cubes hot which are more like a blues jr III sound. While I understand who fender is marketing this to. I can get alot of the features and sound from helix stomp powered powercab setup while not perfect its close but alot more flexible. I personally think the price point for these is ridiculous.
@@DJ_V_squared I was playing with the Tone Master Deluxe this morning. It sounds fine on its own. The reverb and tremolo add a nice touch. Used a Boss 12 mode OD-200 for distortion. Used a Boss 12 mode DD-200 for delay. Results in seconds. Then tried the Tone Master on different power settings. At 10 volume, 0.2 watts is bedroom. 0.5 watts and 1 watt is practice. Any thing more is performance volume. At full power I run the volume at no more than 3 in the basement practicing. I have a Boss GT-1000 but I use it upstairs in the bedroom with studio headphones. Great results but hours programming on a 32 inch monitor. Get ideas then implement with live gear (Tone Master and Boss pedals) The Tone Master is made to play gigs with results in seconds. Form factor, looks like a Fender Deluxe, sounds like a Fender Deluxe, operates like a Fender Deluxe, lightweight, power scalable, recordable with the IR's. Easy to tweak in any setting. Complicated digital boxes, problem if you tweak one digital setting you more than likely cause a ripple effect at another level inside the box. And you cannot make an error when adjusting because you can make the sound worse or you need to add or delete an effect, unless you are really good at programming, I have seen pros scratching their heads in front of 10,000 people. How many times do you want to do that. It's like riding a unicycle on a tightrope and expecting you can do that every gig. Too much tech if you don't have a trusted tech person. I practice at home with the GT-1000 and make program errors trying to comprehend the latest upgrades. It's a good unit but I need results in seconds on stage. Amp, guitar, Boss effects. When I can afford to hire a quality guitar tech I will make the stage gear more complicated.
I'm debating the twin black or the twin blonde having such a hard time finding good videos comparing the two. Andertons did a good one, but still not enough to make a decision. Painful decision.
@Luke I picked up a brand new Hot Rod Deluxe IV Ltd Edition for.. $400 (but had to fix it). $475 total w/parts for an $850 amp. The self-urgency to get the twin blonde is much lower but I was extremely impressed with the one I tried IRL. I like the Tone Masters because of the attenuation knob. Crack the knob on this HRD and the neighbors across town start calling. ;)
Your playing was great, the amp sounds terrific, but who in their right mind set those lights like that? If they put that in my face I would insist they change the setting or I wouldn't play.
Sounds great and I get the allure based on the features. What makes me apprehensive about dropping $1k+ is that the inside is basically a laptop in a speaker cabinet. A tube amp is indefinitely repairable. Once the processor on this goes it’s toast. In my mind the difference between buying a tube version and a ToneMaster parallels that between buying a car and leasing one. The former you buy and it’s yours. Trade it in if you want but you get a long term investment. The latter is great for a while and then you’re starting over.
Tickled Elmo changing tubes costs about $25 and five minutes once every year or two. It would take a Tone Master lasts 30-40 years to make up the difference. Lasting that long would make it one of the most dependable digital devices I’ve heard of. If so, please disregard this criticism.
@@joemanez5290 I don't know why people act like the only thing that goes wrong w/ tube amps is just the tubes going bad, which I don't consider maintenance anyways. Look at the legions of amps that are "original everywhere else" because critical components failed and had to be replaced. I'm not saying the comparison is 1 to 1, but that it's not "digital dies" and "tubes last forever w/ no maintenance" It's hilarious to me that people have phones that are more expensive that are replaced for more often than you will need to w/ this thing *most likely* but act like the possibility that it could one day die is too just too much to imagine...
My question is how reliable is this going to be 5 or so years down the track. It’s digital and just like computers they end up having a short shelf life unlike true solid state amps like Peavey Bandits for example. The price Fender is asking for these is way over the top as well. They could have easily thrown in an effects loop but it was all about aesthetics.
A regular twin in this room would be fine. I used to use my Super-Reverb in here with no problems. Even though that's not quite 85 watts, it was considered a loud amp. I've heard 100-watt amps get buried in the corner of that room before so I was really happy with how this responded on 4-4.5 on the volume.
I really like a drummer that unerstands how not to hit hard all the time and let the instruments be heard clearly.

I love my Fender Tone Master easy to carry to gigs
I’m sold!
Those lights are brutal 😆🤣
The amp sounds great but that was some fine playing as well!
John Gallagher How was the amp on the gig ?
Thanks!
Shane I have the Blues Deluxe like yours. Do I need the Tone Master Twin?
Shane, when are you & the band coming to Perth to perform for us blokes in the west at The Charles Hotel????
The Charles, do they still have Blues nights? Been out of town for a few years!
Great tone, mine will get here end of this week or Monday-ish. Planning on using my Helix as FX only.
@@AuntAlnico4 That doesn't fulfill my need of a lightweight amp but, thanks for the suggestion. (15 lbs heavier) :-)
Are you using any pedals in this performance? Does it sound as sparkling as the Tone master Super Reverb?
Superb!!
The amp sounds great. Guess I'm gonna have to get one of these and get my workout another way.
Hey Shane, how close do you think the Mustang 3 come to the new Tone Master amps? Since I still own a Mustang which has a Twin and Deluxe in it, I’d be curious how how it compares. Thanks
That sounds pretty tight man
Sounds Great! My back thanks you for helping me decide to pull the trigger, I'm hoping for an atomic fireball in the candy Pack...
Good work! Everybody else goes to 3 on the volume and that's no test.
Great playing and great amp. - How does it compare to a Roland Blues Cube Artist?
How does it compare to blues cube - I have the amp and head touring blues cube
Sounded really good.
Please review the Tonemaster deluxe reverb.
Shane, Wonderful job. perfect demo...live where the rubber meets the road...not in a bedroom.
What does it sound like w/o pedals? Some of us don't use them. Will the amp break up with a natural sound on its own?
Hi Shane. How did you send the signal to the PA?
I like the natural feed back from a deluxe reverb and it's still to loud for most clubs on 3 or 4 with the master volume. I did use the reverb channel for channel switching for leads. I used a rack mount reverb / digital delay for slap back and delay.
Wow. Great sounding amp.
I hear Chris Cain at 2:17 ... great playing Shane!!!
Hi Shane, just came across this video again and when I saw it the first time, I had just got myself one. Just a question occurring now two years down the track, when you played at this gig, did you attenuate the Tonemaster down from full output?
It depends on the room mate. I usually ran it at full when I could or at the second highest power setting pushed a little harder.
Hey Shane, really curious, do you see this replacing your DSL40CR as your go-to amp? Why or why not?
It's different. If I want the Fender sound this is the best choice (weight mostly). The Marshall won't be going anywhere. :-)
Which do you prefer playing the most, your tele, prs, or Flying V?
Shane are you planning to review the Deluxe Tonemaster amp next?
Once I can walk/drive properly again I will head down and borrow one from Sky Music all being well.
Oh yeah! You had knee surgery happy healing!
Is there any way I could use the line out to a guitar power amp pedal then to a cabinet or two. I'm trying to have the sound spaced out on stage or practice room.
Fantastic tone in the live set ....
What were you using for a drive/booster ...?????
The Royal Flush Dual Overdrive Pedal
@@intheblues , I find it takes more effort to really get a good single coil drive sound than a humbucker without turning the sound into
"Ass Salad".
You managed to get a great tight Low Mid with balls.
Well done. 🙂
your playing is getting better if thats possible terrific !!
I'm curious on how this compares to the boss nextone.
I'll be doing a video about that coming up :-)
@@intheblues speedy recovery.
Crack the knob on this HRD and the neighbors across town start calling. ;)
What amp was Brian using
I really like the other guitar player as well , you didn't tell us his name
Could I use a deluxe reverb for gigging? I'm between the tone master deluxe vs twin
I asked someone over at guitar center who’s a musician, and he said he’d prefer the tone master twin over the deluxe for gigging
Now you have to add the Super Reverb into the mix. Decisions, decisions.....
What guitar, amp and pedals did Brian use?
Sounds great but fire the light guy... Holy crap
nice tone
The latter is great for a while and then you’re starting over.
bright side, for what you're saving on maintenance on tubes you probably could buy another if/when that goes.
Tickled Elmo changing tubes costs about $25 and five minutes once every year or two. It would take a Tone Master lasts 30-40 years to make up the difference. Lasting that long would make it one of the most dependable digital devices I’ve heard of. If so, please disregard this criticism.
@@joemanez5290lol this logic from 3 years ago may have just convinced me to just buy the tube version DR again.
@@mikec3454meanwhile, I now mostly play an HX Stomp into a Line6 PowerCab hehehe.
@@joemanez5290 I don't know why people act like the only thing that goes wrong w/ tube amps is just the tubes going bad, which I don't consider maintenance anyways. Look at the legions of amps that are "original everywhere else" because critical components failed and had to be replaced. I'm not saying the comparison is 1 to 1, but that it's not "digital dies" and "tubes last forever w/ no maintenance"
It's hilarious to me that people have phones that are more expensive that are replaced for more often than you will need to w/ this thing *most likely* but act like the possibility that it could one day die is too just too much to imagine...
Shane, just wondering if the tube version of the Twin would have been too loud for that gig?
A regular twin in this room would be fine. I used to use my Super-Reverb in here with no problems. Even though that's not quite 85 watts, it was considered a loud amp. I've heard 100-watt amps get buried in the corner of that room before so I was really happy with how this responded on 4-4.5 on the volume.
How many amps do you have?
Hmm I am not sure but not that many. I might have to double check. Probably 5 is my guess.
