Gerald's basic review is still everyone else's best review haha.
Agreedddddd
Ha. You're too kind! 🤓🙏💜
It’s so true though. This is the meat of the camera I want to know about. Can I afford it? Not right now, but maybe soon🙌🏻
THIS.
Hi Gerald. The comparison at 800 looked blocky. What zoom level was that? Also you showed 800 but not 640. I assume they are both great there? I only shoot native ISO’s on A7Siii.
I think we’re now spoiled into pixel peep mode. Between the Panasonic S and the Sony A where do we go from here? Maybe just out to shoot ;)
Thanks
I love the plea to Sony in the middle... "PLEASE SONY! PLEASE GIVE US FIRMWARE UPDATES!" (also I agree... please)
ALL OF THIS!!
I recently found out the hard way that you can’t set custom white balance in memory recall yet you can change any other setting. Why, Sony? Why?!
Sony - great on the hardware side, not so great on the software side. This is pretty uniform across all their offerings (including firmware for their hardware), albeit with some incremental improvement recently.
When You guys say it, Sony may actually listen.
That 'close shutter when changing lenses' feature is a must for the a7s which is primarily a video camera. Shooting stills you can fix a dirty sensor in post - much harder with video - come on Sony it's just a bit of code!
I have a sneaky feeling the Sony engineers pay close attention to your reviews of each cameras colour haha
Once again Gerald shows why he is the best. Simple, easy to follow and interesting, great review!
How to prevent viewers from skipping sponsored section?
Gerald: Let's throw an internal mic test XD
That's actually a really cool idea
I've only been watching him for like 8mo but he does it all the time, and its a genius move.
Smart🔥
Brilliant.
Yeah, very smart.
"I'm Gerald Undone, your favorite UA-camrs favorite UA-camr."
THIS COMMENT IS AWESOME!
Omfg, this is so true. Chris is always sending love over this way. Same with every other UA-camr who is like " Gerald Undone has cover XYZ so if you want to know about that go to his channel for all the technical stuff "
I love it !!! 😀
💯 True
Yessssss
+1
I know you can't review everything, but understand, a lot of us are now just waiting for your review....................period. You start fast, you communicate fast, you test scientifically, you make sense, and I feel like I got 35 minutes of information in 15 minutes flat. Hopefully in the future you'll get to do a big, complete A1 review, but honestly, you answered my biggest questions, thank you.
“I’m Gerald Undone, and if your R5 is getting hot enough to cook a steak, put a little A1 on it.”
lolll gold
😂😂😂🔥😂🔥🔥🔥
I laughed entirely too hard at this. Thanks for the laugh!
Ooh this is spicy
Just yes...
You are the only UA-camr that I feel is criminally underrated. There are others that definitely deserve more followers, but you do what you do so well and it is effectively matched by no one else. There are no gimmicks or annoying clickbait titles where the creator does talk about the subject, but also talks to you and randomly hangs out with others talking about unrelated items for like 6 minutes for no reason. Thank you for the quality, and I hope you build to the following you deserve.
From all your non-native English followers, thanks for the time spent in adding the English subtitles!
non native here. zero problem :p
In his other videos, he would talk faster, so this one is just fine...
Just watched this again tonight.
I am not only impressed by the quality of this review but also the quality of this camera’s specs.
Two years after its release it is still the number one. This says a lot about how great it is, especially in nowadays technological pace.
Well done Sony, well done Gerald for a classy review.
Love your stuff Gerald, you’re helping so many people my man keep it up 🔥🙏
When my sub feed is filled with new reviews I alllwayyysss watch Geralds reviews first!
the video is very entertaining and very helpful , very thoughtful, man I love your videos , thank you so much for such an enormous efforts
Thanks Gerald! You never disappoint. Appreciate the level of thought you put into everything (even your ads! very smart way to include an ad without making it feel like an interruption. Surely keeps your audience and your sponsors both happy).
OMG! A1 reviews are up! Gerald is the first one I'm gonna watch!
Seriously after launch even if m interested in A7m4, waiting for Gerald review especially after he undone R5 & R6
Every single time I am mindblown by the information you are able to pack into 15min. Thank you Gerald for all the hard work. I REALLY appreciate every single Video of yours. You helped me a lot on the way to make better films. Thank you.
🤓🙏💜
Oh boy I knew this was coming today, coffee is made and I’m ready to watch!
Love Gerald’s reviews, so clean, informative and well set out. The geeky testing is so good. No sir, you’re not done, I’ll be waiting for the detailed review (especially regarding the photography aspects of the camera).
You cover more meaningful content in 15 minutes than most people can in an hour of rambling. Great job keeping these clear, concise, interesting, and surgically focused on the details people will care about!
Love the review. I did not expect the pixel-binned full frame 4k mode to outperform the A7S III in ISOs lower than 12800. That's insanely good! What a monster camera!
Hey - that studio is SOUNDING great!
Dude... your reviews on cameras are really by far, the best on all UA-cam... amazing work. Thank you for all the info, and your input.
I have been waiting for Gerald to review this camera, ever since it came out. Finally it's here. Good day today!
I love the "nerdy tests" that you do! Great overview Gerald.
We need cinetone, variable shutter and shutter angle on A7SIII!
What's variable shutter?
Yep
And DCI 4K!
Shutter Angle is a must
@@nikilragav 1/52, 1/63 etc
Gerald has been my 1st stop when all the tech reviewers for camera gear do the mass content drops! Keep it up! Thank you again for helping us be better consumers and do helps us do our jobs better!
Finally! Been waiting on this one for a long time. Another fine video Gerald!
Great review Gerald. When considering the price at the end, it should be noted that the price is largely down to it's high specs as a Stills camera rather than a video camera.
“I’m Gerald Undone, and I ... never overheat ...”
Thank you for focusing on the nerdy video tests Gerald! Your note on cinetone reaching the A7S III gives me hope that it'll come!
I totally loved how you made the sponsored segment of the video a value add by comparing the mics of the cameras. This kind of ensures that the viewers got to see the sponsored ad as well as gain some valuable insight about the difference in the A1 and A7SIII.Thanks for the review!
Finally....the review we've all been waiting for ...Tony who?
Thorough first impressions man !!
Thanks for your video, gerald! Your tests are really important to the community.
As usual, you covered everything I'm interested in knowing about on the video side. You are so thorough! Thanks for what you do here!
This camera has two overheating modes. "Normal" and "You know fuck it it's your camera"
The one review that really matters. Thank You Gerald
Its amazing how quickly and simply you get to the point in your reviews whether basic or detailed👍🏼👍🏼😊
Exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Well, after the tests for the 4K against the A7SIII and the ISO performance I would say the price tag is justified. I'm an R5 owner and the Alpha 1 is an amazingly spec'd camera. The two approaches Sony and Canon have taken is interesting. Sony is taking the "give the people what they want...for a price" approach that then eventually is allowed to trickle down to other cameras as time goes on. This is the superior approach, imho, then Canons odd curveball "feature-wack-a-mole" they do with their camera models.
That being said, we are spoiled for choice these days and I love using my R5 and thats all that really a camera needs to do: inspire the owner to go out and shoot.
Here I thought I didn't need this cam. But seeing the better noise performance at low ISOs compared to the a7S III has got me super interested.
I was looking pretty seriously at FX6, but now I'm not sure. The A1 seems to be better at several things.
@Alex Regiani Totally agree about client perception, but lets be real, the FX6 is a tiny camera and worse yet (for perception) it looks like a 1980's camcorder. I have a RED Dragon-X as my client facing camera when needed, but am most invested in the Sony system as I shoot all of my stills and most of my video on Sony bodies. FWIW I don't think the client perception between FX6 and A1 would be any different. Now, If we're talking about a DSMC2 body RED vs an A1 there's a pretty big difference in perception and of course I'd rather have the RED visible to clients. FX6 interests me mainly because of it's variable ND.
you still dont need it
Or you could light you scenes and come out with a better image...
i wonder if it's the same at slow motion 120f/s
Seriously one of the best technical reviews of this camera. You're one of the few who do the ever-important Dynamic Range test. Great perspective and review.
Gerald,
Thanks you are all always a great resource.
I love when 'Oh btw Gerald' appears. Funny and still extremely relevant.
Unscripted Gerald is always the most entertaining! LOL
There’s something very soft about your voice that makes it really enjoyable to watch and listen to!! Keep up the great work 👌
Great new studio. Glad to have you back! Canada represent!
The low light performance is really impressive. I wonder if the low noise levels also exist in RAW photos/video or if it's just better noise reduction thanks to the higher resolution sensor
The real question is what cards were able to store 3 hours of 8k footage?! That’s insane! File sizes sound tiny but that also wouldn’t make sense. Amazing review as always!
Also, why would you want to record 8K video, for a podcast? (Ideas welcomed)
Do your reviews are so good I usually end up watching them one time and then put them on my watch later list to really absorb the content later on. 🤓 Another great overview
I mean, this is exactly what makes you special, everyone knows that you're a honst person, when it comes to review !
Thank you!
The best thing about this camera is probably that I now have to be in doubt about getting this or the A7Siii 😄
I was hesitating between the A7sIII and the FX6. Now I have another camera to add to my inability to decide list, haha.
@@GuillaumeB7 sounds about right 😩
@@GuillaumeB7 Me too, I waited for the A1 to come out but as soon as hearing the price bought an A7s iii - Given I don't own an 8k TV ( have a 4k oled ) and don't plan own an 8k TV until Micro Leds TV's come out at a reasonable price I thought I'd buy A7S iii. My guess is 8k is exciting today but it will be common in cameras 18 months to 2 years out. I am excited by 8k but really do I need something can't I even view.
The A7S3 is excellent, I absolutely love mine. 10 bit makes all the difference and its a beast in low light. Huge step up from my A73, highly recommend it. I'd personally get the A7S3 and $3k worth of accessories over the A1 (unless you shoot tons of photos). You could get an A7S3, an Aputure 300D, an Atomos Ninja, a cage, and a lens or 2 for the same price.
@@timelapsega true, but I still get to wonder 🙂
Loved the epilogue ramble. Less scripts, more ramble 😉
Love how you do the sponsor time section. Useful and not annoying!
This channel is way too amazing. This reviews are the best I have ever seen. Thanks Gerald!
I was waiting only for yours review before judging, but man 3h of 8k it is craaaaaazyyyyyy and that recover time it is mind blowing, sony did it again 🤷🏾♂️
Great stuff, Gerald. This is the kind of thing that I don't test with a stills-centric perspective.
Thanks for a great video Gerald, I’m waiting for the second instalment. Love the unbiased technical approach that i know I can trust. 👍
Gerald. This is a perfect review video. I rarely thumbs up a video (mostly because I’m not moved to do so) but this video I was. I also subscribed thereafter. You are articulate in your processes and detailed in your explanations of them. Your audio test segue into your sponsors plug was clever as was your interactions with these amazing and impressive tools from Sony. Thank you kindly and I will wait your next one.
Took the top spot again G!....Just out of curiosity, How long did it take you to export this video? Asking for a friend.
Love you man.
@@sensualbydomeni why are u gae
I'm delighted to nominate myself to be on the list of the Alpha 1 give-away competition. Thanks! ;-)
Waiting for this! Gerald is the best source of camera info on UA-cam!
Excellent as always. I appreciate your focus, given your limited time with the camera. 🙏
I love the channel and the review - but my ocd can't get over the table being off centre haha.
Video aside I'm pretty impressed by the quality of Sony's in-built mics
Well done Mr.Undone! I know I can always count on you providing nerdy details!
I like how you put the sponsor in the video while you did the microphone comparison between the two cameras, didn't even need to skip through the video!
Indeed, AN 8K MONSTER CAMERA!!!
Someone get the steak sauce 🥩 this thing is A1 🤓 Great video Gerald!
I love that you went back to the darker background! The shot looks so much nicer with that extra contrast.
Man, your reviews are the gold standard. This is amazing.
Anyone else here just for Gerald's voice??
"I'm gerald undone, and I -sell propane- review cameras and camera accessories."
U deserve 1 million subs !
Your reviews are honest, insightful, informative, way better than others !!
Thanks Gerald. You're the first place for reviews when something's out :)
"I'm Gerald undone, and I watch Gerald undone videos on 1.25× speed."
I WATCH IN 2x
It's already too fast for me : I watch those videos in x0,5 😅
(just kidding, your rhythm is perfect for non English natives speakers)
Okay, where the hay is the setting to watch at different speeds on UA-cam???
@@caseyonlocation8257 it's in the three dots where you also change video quality.
@@detectivejonesw I see the cog wheel to change video setting to say 4K. But I don't see the 3 dots for changing video speed. Where is that?
The ONE camera to rule them all. Some hobbits are about to band together to try and destroy this thing.
Been waiting on your review. Best in the industry
I LOVE YOUR SET !!! Always been fascinated ! I never will skip a video no matter what!
"I'm Gerald Undone and I have multiple spigot recepticles"
Hey, Canon, it's officially time for rev. 1.1 where you fix the overheating..
It's a hardware issue. Can't be fixed through firmware updates.
@@MrBobthened hardware updates tend to be called revisions. So rev 1.1 would be an update to hardware. You'll see stuff like that with motherboards etc where they can be the same board, but different versions where they may have switched components or modified the layout some.
Amazing that you pull this all out in a few days ! ... Just discovered your channel. (Yes, it sucks here in Canada; winter is too long !)
Gerald's reviews are incredible. And I love this setting. I wish you a lot of success because you are so good.
"I'm Gerald Undone and I focus breathe"
Haha
Under rated comment!!! 🤣
You see, Canon? That’s how you create great cameras! By using great engineering not cripple hammers.
Gerald you are so thorough ! Love it mate. That shutter closed when camera off.... wow... Sony listens. Amazing.
AMAZING QUICK REVIEW! Loved it!
Man I can just here all they salty r5 owners lol
Im a sony user and have an R5, I'm not salty...I'm LOL'ing to the bank; I got everything I want not for $8,100.00US dollars puhahahahaha.
great video! was testing out this camera last week
so nice!
Love the new studio and what you have done with it! Hard work pays off and you’re a prime example. Thank you for the nerdy review!
Amazing review, it's a shame the few days to try it. I hope you have it again soon. The best as ever Gerald!
As usual very nice review! You are the only person who covered iso and noise performance with both cameras. Thank you!
Clean execution. Concrete information. Objective assessment.
Gerald does it again. Singularly unique on UA-cam.
Thanks brotha. Keep up the great work !
Great first review! Can't wait for the photo tests!
Man G. I swear I watch your videos and remember all your major points. When I'm in meetings at work and talk about gear. Because of you, I'm the "guru" in my company lol. Thank you for this in depth review of this camera. It was you that made me decide to get the Sony A7SIII - I saw a bunch of announcement about the A1 and saw your name come up. You were the 1st one I jumped to see. Always learn from you brotha! Thank you for all that you do and test to give invaluable content!
🤓🙏💜
i have waited for you to make a video on this camera for so long
I just came across your channel, UA-cam's algorithm. I like your reviews, hence subbed.
Your review is everything in looking for without the fluff. I was worried about overheating as I do a lot of long recordings and you've, without a doubt, answered all my questions and even covered dummy batteries. Hands down easiest sub decision.
I'm sure ill binge these videos all day - but I always come to you for the technical details!
