    Hey, I realize this is a year old but there are those of us out here that are just starting out again (after about 50 years out of the hobby) 😆
    Anyway, it was just what I was looking for. I've got a rather large track planned patterned after the Portland international raceway here in Oregon and it's going to be 30 ft. Long and 12 ft wide so I've got a lot of track to paint! This is going a long way in giving me some direction. Too many tracks I see are painted just gray and that's not at all what I was looking for. This is much more like it, thanks again. Cheers!

    Great video as always, did a test piece myself and this stuff is great. For anyone painting Carrera track make sure to use black primer first or the dashed line will show through, on the other hand if you’re going for a road style look skip the primer and the paint will make it look like old road where the lines have faded away

    One question: you did a thorough cleaning but I’m surprised you don’t need any primer?

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  9 місяців тому +1

      Thank you 😊, no primer needed with this material. It has a very high solvent base content to the paint. And with the prepping and cleaning it has plenty of mechanical bonding to have great adhesive properties. Primer could be used if you wanted but I would recommend using a dark grey or black for primer. One of the advantages of using this over a dark substrate is that the paint has a translucent finish. The black track helps give the color that true realism look to the finished product with a few coats of color.

    If you read this? I'm just wondering if you can make the rails black. I know that they make a formula to turn model railroad wheels black, and that it doesn't interfere with the electric contact. Again, just wondering.

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  10 місяців тому

      Thanks David, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. As long as it doesn’t interfere with the electrical flow. Only question I would have is if it would last. Being that our slot cars drag around a set of braids on the rails. Would it wear off over time . But it would be worth a try. Definitely would improve the overall look of the track for sure.

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  2 роки тому

      Hi Cal , I don’t have a video showing the grip increase, but it is a substantial increase. If you want the cars to slightly get sideways , I would suggest the multiple can technique. The single can method is pretty crazy as far as grip goes…

    Great vid. I wonder how much better a track would work just from cleaning the release agent off it? Doesnt sound good for traction to have something slick on it.

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  2 роки тому +1

      It would improve it some , the only issue I could see with this is over time , it will pull the oils from the plastic making it brittle. It doesn’t effect this when you paint it because it seals the surface and prevents it from decomposing…

  • @buliyo

    hey Boone, i have now watched the whole "paint your track" series and i think ill go with the first technique. with the second technique you need to have as many tracks together as possible but for the first technique it is not really necessary, right?

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Correct…. The 1st technique uses just the one can … as long as you make sure to shake the can up to properly mix the material, you should be able to create the same finish between two different pieces of track

    Booneman this is cal I have a 60 ft artin 143 scale plastic track that has no texture thus it is very slick. They do not make silicone tires for the artin cars. Would course sandpaper work to add texture to track surface when using rubber tires. If not what is the best paint to add grip

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  2 роки тому

      Rough sand paper could work, but it’s not going to be the most attractive surface on your track… this video with the stone paint has awesome grip .. all the track painting videos i have improve the grip of the track . But this 1 technique is by far the best when it comes to providing a high grip surface

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
