    Looks like an awesome mount. Personally, I'd drop it down lower so I'm not blocking the view out of my windscreen so much though.

    Seems like the tool that locks/unlocks the unit should either be extendable or at least come out past the GPS unit. I ride a KTM790R and I can see where the windscreen may cause an issue getting my hand behing the unit to either lock or unlock it. I like the simplicity of it. Also, I understand the unique (non-standard) keyed feature for security, BUT come on, $15 bucks for extras is way unreasonabe. If you are traveling/offroading you want to have extras with you, but that seems excessive. At least the unit should come with 2 keys regardless.

      Thanks for your comment. A lot of what you said is true…. However the confined space is a blessing and a curse in my option. As far as the keys go both ends are useable. One side for locking and the other for pushing pin out. As far as I know, they are also machined and stainless where 15 seems reasonable.

      @@1LiterADV Makes more sense when explained, I will purchase either way, however 2 keys seems reasonale for a $70 item imo. Thanks

      Thx for the positive feedback. Sometimes it’s hard to know how people will interpret your responses. Machining cost and is usually outsourced, so I’m assuming there is not much margin on the keys.

    I really like that locking piece, one thing I would change is to use an Altrider Universal Bar mount because all the fastener go in from the front with the GPS removed

    • @1LiterADV
      @1LiterADV  2 роки тому +1

      I can see how that would be beneficial. The locking plate can be used independently, as it really is designed to work with Garmin Zumo XT cradle….I just paired it with the MotoPumps mount. I’m using the plate as a layer of security for gas/lunch stops and similar. Overnight stays, I would remove the GPS unit altogether.

      @@1LiterADV yes thanks for showing that part it’s the one thing that I didn’t like about my altrider mount didn’t have a way to lock the gps in

      Order one up for piece of mind. I think you’d like it. Cheap Insurance

      The fasteners go in from the front on the MotoPumps mount as well. That is the only way it works with the Zumo XT powered cradle that came with the GPS...

      @@MotoPumps yes I saw that the fasteners go in the front of the plate but I was also talking about the fasteners on the astrider clamp itself they go in from the front as well which also means you don’t need to take off the wind screen anyway I think adding that plate is the way to go no matter what clamp is used

    I don’t understand. Do you need a mounting bar for this?

      Plate is sold with an attachment that accommodates many bars widths. In this video the 12mm attachment was used.

    How resilient is it to just yanking hard enough on the gps unit to make the garmin mount mechanism fail?

    • @1LiterADV

      It would take some effort. I would look at this as a theft deterrent.

    so u just need a 3mm hex key to take off mounting brace bar and cut power cable, still not theft proof.

    • @1LiterADV
      @1LiterADV  2 роки тому +3

      You are correct. It adds a layer of security that is significantly improved over the Garmin cradle, which has almost zero. The mount itself is tight against windshield and should allow gas stops and lunchtime to happen with more piece of mind. I wouldn’t trust it overnight outside. The security pin also allows piece of mind during off-roading. At least that is what I hope. In short, nothing is secure….. but it is a deterrent that works as advertised.
