I shared this on Facebook when I still had 20 minutes left to the video. Summarizing: "SM64 is iconic for speed-running. A major record uses a small glitch, and has a WR of 14-some minutes as of 2024. Blindfolded? 24-some minutes in 2020...and more there's video to go!"

Good to see an in-depth breakdown of what an ACTUAL blindfolded run looks like. Really helps contextualize just how ridiculous a certain recent Monster Hunter run was.
@@blueprint7While I'm not fully knowledgeable about the situation, what I understand is that a streamer faked a blindfolded speedrun of one of, if not the hardest Monster Hunter hunt while blindfolded. People called her out, so she did another one with more proof of her actually doing it, only for this other one to be fake as well
no it doesn't lol. No blindfolded runner is ever going to compare to high level visual runs. Sub-20 is already a ludicrous barrier to cross for blindfolded runners, and that's nowhere near the best.
Bubzia's 120 Star run is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. I'm honestly impressed that he, while blindfolded, nailed something that I could barely pull off with my eyes open (Those 100 coin stars are not easy in some levels, and Tick Tock Clock is just a nightmare for me)
@@stinksmcgee fun fact: TTC is the 2nd easiest stage blindfolded, and TTC100 is the 2nd easiest 100 coins star 😅 (I haven't learnt TTC100 yet so I can't say my own opinion, this is just what Bubzia said, but it makes sense, loads of places to normalise and basically easy coins to grab in boxes in TTC compared to many other stages). Don't get me wrong, TTC100 is obviously harder than any star in the blindfolded 70 star route
@@mrhumble2937 girl faked a very hard fight in monster hunter world. When called out on the ways it was obviously fake she made a big deal about doing another one to prove she is legit. That one she was dumb and replied to a chat message on a hidden 3rd monitor. Karl Jobst has 2 videos on it.
@Gardor she used zero normalization setups, lock-on, or any other legitimate blindfolded strategies. It's not really possible to do one basically identical to how you usually do it
I love how Bubzia is getting proper recognition now. Even after completing his LEGENDARY 11+ hour speedrun his channel and video really didn’t have anywhere near enough views. This will help him massively
What I took away from this video is that there are three people on this Earth that can beat Super Mario 64 blindfolded in under 25 minutes. Absolute insanity lol

I don't think think it's an overstatement to say that beating Mario 64 blindfolded is one of the most impressive achievement in the history of gaming. This isn't just insane skill, this is memory execution at a savant level.
yeah when I first saw Karl Jobst's video last year on the blindfolded M64 run i said the exact same thing -- just completely insane, i'd say maybe the no-hit thing where the guy beat all five Dead Souls games in a row might be more impressive, but that's it
Kinda wish you had included more involving his 0 star and 120 star blindfolded runs, those were some of the most hype ever done with this game and that is genuinely saying something. Great vid as always. Genuinely amazing what speedrunners can do.
Several people have mentioned this, here’s why I didn’t do that: I thought about going over the other categories but they didn’t have an interesting story. Even a combined video with all the categories would've been odd, jumping all over the place and trying to talk about how all of them progressed - better to just focus on the most popular one. The 120 star run was amazing but I'm not even sure what I would've said about it. I can't go over every star and there's no progression to talk about, so I just gave it a shoutout and left it at that.
As a musician, "beatcounting" is something I often do without even thinking about it in speedruns (not blindfolded) whenever timing is required x) You can get pretty precise timing with specific subdivisions, like the 4th 16th note or stuff like that, purely off the rhythm
Yeah, rhythm strats that use the game's music are always my favorites, especially cause we know that even professional musicians tend to speed up their internal rhythm under stress. I've come up with a few of those for Super Metroid, and one for a couple of the bomb jumps in A Link to the Past.
@@TheSearchForTruth88I wasn't bragging I was just surprised this was seen as a "discovery", I think all musicians do this naturally when playing so I never realized people did NOT feel the rhythm of the music
That reprieve during the montage of Bubzia where its just him jumping for the final star and missing has to be simultaneously the funniest and saddest thing I've ever seen
Dude imagine if summoning salt got a Netflix show or something where he did documentaries like these but for sports, like swimming, track and field, and other irl things. I would binge watch all 4 seasons of 15 40 min episodes in one day.

These men's passion for completely memorizing the layout of a 28 year old video game to the point where they can see it vividly in their minds eye behind a blindfold is sort of inspiring. Shows anyone can pursue any challenge and get satisfaction out of it.
I am overall satisfied that Bubzia claimed back his title for blindfolded 16 star his dedication is truly inspiring, but i cant help but just be in awe for the badassery of Nobori strolling in with his power level out the roof and just blowing up a category so nonchalantly. People like Nobori is insane superhuman talent are so fun to watch at their best but Bubzia goes to show that it is not something to be disheartened by but motivation to achieve your potential. But then surpassing them! The real magic of SummoningSalt videos is definitely pushing through your personal barriers. I've seen sport documentaries and so many Olympic tales which have such similar vibes to any of these videos.

Speed running is somehow the most aggressively persistent community, determined to take glory, yet also being completely community oriented and willing to help direct competitors. I love speed runnings cutthroat and wholesome communities.
Yeah, it was easy to understand 15, or even 10 years ago, when there was no money in it, but now that all the top players make a living out of this, it's great that it stayed that way!
Goodness. I was just watching this randomly today, wondered how Bubzia was getting on, checked the leaderboards and, today, he actually got his sub 20. As one commentator would undoubtedly put it, what an absolute legend.
I like seeing the evolution of mic quality (and Bubzia's camera). Insane to see how much this record has improved over the years as well! I have been an active watcher in the community since mid-late 2021
Definition of hard work vs. talent. I love how Bubzia worked on this and how knowing his limitations worked on alternative strategies and overall shows how working hard for your goals will over come any talent, as undeniably nobori is a great runner
While a Summoning Salt video, it amazes me every time when a runner does an insane time, I expect the video to be over soon, then check and realise it was just the first half.

Talent vs Workrate stories are always amazing. I mean, you admire Bubzia's grind and his mindset and game-intelligence but also when you see Nobori playing you're just dumbfounded
This whole community is so wholesome. Sharing strats and pushing each other to be the best. You can tell they all want to push the boundaries of the category more than they care about their personal performance. My favorite video of yours since the original SM64 breakdown you did
i was falling asleep last night with this video on, i was far enough asleep that all context and meaning had disappeared, all that was left was "calm factual voice in the background" and was about to fully drift off when the video got to 8:35. it was fucking terrifying lmao
just like with every speed game, there's gotta be at least ONE random Japanese player that pops up outta nowhere and just SMASHES the records to inspire new strats and faster gameplay from the other runners. it happens every single time LMAO
It’s worth mentioning that Bubzia eventually did complete a blindfolded 120 star run (in >11 hours). He also holds the any% record with his 1 star 13min 31s.
@@Jingoa You're right, I missed the part where he said Bubzia completed the 120 star run. Do you have a timestamp for the 1 star record though? Summoning talks about Bubzia trying other categories at 32:49 and shows his PB's at that time, but the time shown isn't anywhere close to the current WR.
When I saw the title of this video, I wasn't sure if I would like it that much, admittedly not knowing much about blindfolded speedrunning. Then I watched the video and holy crap it was amazing! I thought about going over the other categories but they didn’t have an interesting story. Even a combined video with all the categories would've been odd, jumping all over the place and trying to talk about how all of them progressed - better to just focus on the most popular one.

You can get pretty precise timing with specific subdivisions, like the 4th 16th note or stuff like that, purely off the rhythm
Yeah, rhythm strats that use the game's music are always my favorites, especially cause we know that even professional musicians tend to speed up their internal rhythm under stress. I've come up with a few of those for Super Metroid, and one for a couple of the bomb jumps in A Link to the Past.
