I caught my very first Arctic Grayling on a Mustad #8 9672 hook dressed as a Montana nymph.
Excellent Kerry!
I just attempted to tie this fly following instructions in a book. Then I found your video, Thank you. your method is easier to follow, faster, and essentially for me as a novice, easier to tie.
Hi Ben, thats excellent! The whole idea with these tutorials is to make fly tying easier, it took me years to learn to tie the Montana correctly , but back in those days there where only books and mostly poor ones for that... If you would like to improve your tying very quickly, may I suggest that you have a look at my most recent book, its a first for fly tying! I guarantee that you will see improvements immediately. ua-cam.com/video/mVLof0uXqyE/v-deo.html GOOD LUCK!
Hello Berry, just received your book loved the introduction brought back memories when I was a youth growing up in Yosemite I was hooked on fishing Was inspired watching a gentleman fly fish I wanted to learn about ten years later My wife bought me a Cortland flyrod set up in a box caught my first fish with a black ant I wanted to learn how to tie terrestrial flies so I took a class at the local sportsman store I was hooked then we had children and I didn’t fish for the next 30years or so we are empty-nesters so I decide to join a fly fish club and signed up for fly tying classes I was very excited to learn how to tie flies my first fly vice was a Regal and just just bought the stonfo transformer and I really like it i’ve been tying for the past three years and I am 64 years old having a lot of fun with my hobby and relate to your book very organized I am glad I found you on UA-cam looks to me we have a few things in common making this short I have lots to talk about do you have an emailI would like to chitchat with you you’re awesome👍👍
Hi Jerome, thats excellent! I do hope that you enjoy the book.
Love it...imitates our black stone flys nice...lots of color possibilities too with the chenille...thanks..
My grandfather used to add a little gold oval tinsel as a ribbing. But just on the colored section of the thorax. He's wrap it in turns opposite the hackle.
First nymph my Grampa taught me to tie. Brings back memories. He always ribbed the colored section of the thorax w a few turns of gold oval tinsel. Always did the trick regardless. He was always one to put his own "spin" on a pattern.
Thanks again. I'm hoping to pick up your book in a few weeks. My birthday is coming up and my wife always likes to get me books. Which is a great gift in my opinion. Anyway, I put a good hint in that I'd like yours. I cant wait to get my hands on it!
Hi Jarret, thats great, I also have a few patterns with memories behind them. Good to hear, I do hope that you enjoy the book, let me know what you think when you have it.
Wow, I've been tying them wrong, I have much to lean. Thank you.
You are so welcome Cliff!
Excellent tie Barry , great early season fly. Rainbows love that black color, think it’s a stoner. Good fishing.
Thanks Stan, strange that many tyers don't like it!!
@@Thefeatherbender it’s just old school, what new fly fishers don’t know and you do is that the old patterns caught a heck of a lot of fish. Like the old duck wing wet flies. I’ve caught so many fish on them it’s not funny. Compliments on your book by the way. I treasure it.
Excellent work. I fish the swamps of Louisiana for crappie . Or better known in Cajun French as sac a lait which means sac of milk. I am going to tie some up and give it a go.
Thanks Ken, it will work well for you, I'm sure!
new to fly tying really like this happy found ur videos great looking fly and easy to follow instructions thank you
Hi Neil, good to hear from you and good to hear that you have joined the brotherhood! If you have any questions i'll try and help. Good luck.

très bien fait, merci ! par contre je n'ai pas vu de fil de plomb ? est ce normal ?
Отлично получилось.
Nice tips Barry, especially on the palmering the hackle, and doubling the wing case. I thought my montana nymphs looked decent, now they'll look even better. I'd like to know about the bobbin too. Thanks.
Hi Joe, Good to hear it is a great fly! The bobbin is a TT Bobbin from Marc Petitjean.
hi what type of chenille are you using and what size, looking on line for some so many kinds and come in different mm , i got some online but when it came it is suede looks thinner than the 1 in video ,thanks neil
Sorry Neil, For some reason I only just received this message!!! Its a 3mm Rayon Chenille I use.
What kind of bobbin thing u have where is the spool of thread ?, awesome video ❤
Hi Dana, Thanks, it's a Marc Petitjean TT Bobbin.
A fly ive never caught on 🐟🎣😂
Fish the wrong fly long enough, it will become the right fly!
@@Thefeatherbender I’ve fished my own Montana more sparse pattern but never on this style I find it to bulky in my mind but I’m not a fish 😂😂
As always, awesome tying tutorials. What brand bobbin is that?
