The movie would have been good if it had a cohesive storyline. Or, less than 6 storylines. Also, if it had Batman, Superman, and Lex Luthor.
I saw The Punisher, a symbol apathy, and some weird cartoon character mix of Joker/Riddler/Max Landis.
Oh, and Nuclear Man remade as Teenage Abomination Lord of the Rings Cave Troll.

I agree with everything said in this review. This was 100% comic book purity through and through. Exactly how a comic book/ superhero movie should be. Joss Whedon GETS the Avengers. As brilliantly made as Spider-Man 2, Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy were, this is the only film that I can say the characters have leapt straight out of the source material and onto the screen. Looking at the comments, people seem to misunderstand the review; this film is NOT a masterpiece, far from it actually, what it is though, is a superhero movie that is 100% true to the spirit of the fiction from what it is based on and it pulls it off spectacularly with flying colours. That's why this film gets an A+.

Truly deserving of the A+. People are bitching, but it's fuckin' amazing. You have great characters fighting it out to save the world. That plot is good enough. Brilliant action set pieces. It's actually one of my favorite movies of all time. That scene in the 3rd act where bruce banner hulks out is fucking incredible. People should stop bitching about this movie and take it for what it is and that is a great superhero movie. This movie is fucking incredible, and fanboys should stop bitching about the nolan trilogy too cuz that's incredible too.

It's 2020 and it is still one of my favorite comic book movie of all time. Actually it's one of my favorite movies of all time.
According to Wikipedia, Norton did face graphs, but the stuntman Cyril Raffaelli did the majority of the Hulk action. I did my research before I said that.

I've seen that movie, so many times...and it's still awesome! I would agree on the A+ but also agree on the fact that the captain america costume looked like something I could buy from a party store for a little boy... I was very pleased that they changed it in the winter soldier... But this is one of my favorite movies ever!

The only thing I didn't like in Avengers was how they portrayed Captain America. After watching Cap 2 you can see what he can do. This greatness wasn't really shown there.

yeah I'm not sure who is like that. there are many marvel movies coming out sometimes more than once a year so you can't really harp on one too long. the avengers is still amazing. and so are the other marvel movies for the most part. (Iron man 3 was good not great, I haven't liked either thor that much)

***** To me, it's so crazy to hear people say anything positive about Winter Soldier. That movie was (in my opinion) absolute garbage. I walked out about halfway through, the continuity was ridiculous, nothing made sense, the plot was incredibly forced and the cap/black widow interactions felt very stiff and gimmicky.
I really don't feel that Cap can hold his own movie in current times (2014). Cap 1 was good because that time period worked for him. He's a "strong" guy with a shield that doesn't obey physics (which yes is cool, but in Winter Soldier was just laughable).
TL,DR - Winter Soldier bad.
Money doesn't mean it's a good movie. Nothing else much was out during this so obv lotta people are gonna see it. I said the shield physics (referring to the bouncing) was laughable. All the other comic book stuff normally at least has some "this works because we made up this reality for it" kind of physics, I wasn't commenting on physics in general. If you UA-cam search 'Everything Wrong With CA: Winter Soldier' Jeremy does a good job pointing out a lot of things that (in my opinion) made this far worse / harder to stomach than some of the other movies. They Hydra stuff was what sent me out of the theater, just forcing conflict.

Again, CA:WS was leagues worse than the other movies, and really felt unnecessary in the franchise. Maybe they'll fix things in Civil War, but I'm optimistically hesitant.

He was the one that insitigated Iron Man's arc, he calmed down the fight between Iron Man and Thor, he took the lead and stepped up to the plate. He went from being a soldier, happy to march to Nick Fury's drum to leading The Avengers into doing what was needed, not for Fury but for himself and Earth. When he started ordering all the team what to do, I got a nerd boner as Cap was finally someone interesting and embracing the role he was born for in The Avengers. A Leader.
The only Avengers movie he ever gave an A+

I always forget that this movie introduced Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk.
To be personally honest this film under powers Thor and Loki so much its nuts. I mean Loki alone could pretty much solo like most if not all of the avengers with ease yes people if u read the comics he's very powerful if he wanted to he could turn hulk into a toad and squish him. And the only reason why Thor beats Loki is because Thor is op and really resistant to magic.

As I've stated before, Zak Penn AND Joss Whedon are credited as Story Writers. However, you'll also notice that Joss Whedon also wrote the screenplay, which is mostly just formatting a story for a movie. Many of Whedon's credits in the past have been tied to screenplay creation. Likewise, many of Zak Penn's credits in the past have been tied to the actual story.
This is really as easy as looking at the credits of these guys on IMDB.

I'm really looking forward for Avengers 2. The Avengers I thought had a little bit too much action toward the end, a lack of Loki during the climax. He's good in the first half but I wanted to see him more as a threat instead instead of his alien army. Hopefully Thanos really will kick their asses

just re-watched The Avengers after not seeing it for years. and i still believe its still the best of the MCU. just recently started watching your videos probably a year ago and its is funny seeing how young you were 5 years ago. glad you kept doing what you love.
The Avengers was good but I personally wouldn't give it an A+.
I personally would have given it a B but that's just me. I thought the plot needed work and there wasn't very much character development. I need to watch it again to see check.
I didn't get Loki's motivation for invading earth or his plan to unite The Avengers so they would turn against each other.
I think my biggest problem with The Avengers was Loki's character development. He felt really cartoony because he just wanted to rule Earth with no real reason for why he would do that. Also, how he survived was never explained.

***** Perhaps personal taste. Loki's plan was to unite the Avengers to separate them which I always thought was strange. I wasn't actually sure why he wanted to take over Earth. I know he wanted to hurt Thor but was that it?
Zak Penn wrote an early draft, which was completely thrown out. He got a story credit for the sole reason that some basic elements from his draft were similar enough (those would be the elements mandated by Marvel Studios) that according to WGA rules, he "counts". His credit is a technicality, and he had nothing to do with the final product.

Your opinion bothers me. Not usually bothered by them, but this list doesn't make any sense. Why is Thor a D+? Why is Thor 2 over the first one? Why is Iron Man 3 apparently better when even the creators of Iron Man 3 don't take it seriously? Just why?
I'm not saying they can't be compared as company vs company, I meant that the atmoshpere of the movies it's way too different to compare them. I'm aware they have competed since like always, but for instance, as a movie, I really prefer The Avengers. I'm not a comic fan, but I enjoyed that movie and maybe that's why. Considering Black Widow: I was really like "Oh, she'll just be the hot chick, that's okay, but fighting aliens along these other heroes? Mehh", but the scene where she is able to deceive the God of Deception in his prison cell... wow. That's just awesome.

drksideofthewal What subtle nuances? I am a superhero fan and thought this was a mediocre movie, but I do tend to mostly focus on plot. It just had so many cliches in terms of plot and visuals from both comics and Hollywood blockbusters.

In The Incredible Hulk (Ed Norton's one) he's shown practicing meditation and anger management techniques, at the end before the credit rolls it shows him smiling cause he's controlling himself at the point of turning. Banner avoids stress because a stress induced change equals an uncontrolled change, ergo an uncontrollable hulk. At the end of the Avengers it's a conscious controlled decision (cont...)

At the end of 'The Incredible Hulk' it is demonstrated that Banner, through meditation, was able to induce transformations. The fact that he hulks out on the Helicarrier is inferred to be because of the injury and stress of the situation as well as the influence of the Control Gem believed to be in Loki's staff.
Definitely deserves that A+
DUDE!! I was thinking the same thing when Thor and Hulk fought was that TV Movie. Also Mark Ruffalo, was an excellent Bruce Banner, I loved that they got to get past the whole "Woe is me" element of that character and he is more comfortable with this "Curse" "Gift" Loki was great as well, he reminded me of the Loki that was in the Hercules TV Series, but no holds barred. The Black Wideo/Hawkeye dynamic will be explored in a Black Widow film, so I like they hinted at it. Top rate review

This is not just one of the best superhero movies I've seen, it's one of the best MOVIES. Period. It's truly a great film.

1) Thank you for not spoiling anything (pet peeve of mine).
2) The 1990s Avengers film actually drew from the much better 1960s TV Series. If you haven't yet, check it out some time.
3) Absolutely agree about how most 3-D is totally unnecessary.

Exactly my point, All the people i talked to, about avengers, Didn't have any problem 'getting' the movie, even though most of them neither read a comic book in life nor knew more than half of the characters beforehand. So I don't think that's an issue with anyone.

Well as a rather discerning film student myself, I would love to read your script treatments and how you would have layered these characters.
The Avengers A+? No way man.
B or B+, yes, its a good movie, good acting, everyone got their time, the action was awesome, but the story was so common, bad guys from outter space, brings an army that wants to invade earth, anyone knows why? Nope.
And TOO MUCH humor, yes movies dont need to be so much DRAMA, but this one didnt get any, even when Coulson dies "So that's what it does", CMON! too much. And i never felt like they were going to lose, to much predictable.
Is a GREAT movie, but not the greatest, is good, but the story is crap.
At least Guardians taught us that they can make great action movies with good amount of drama and a fun story, that movie deserves an A along with Cap 2.

Well usually I'd call movies cheesy. But your review was so cheesy, I mean really? The drama? No drama in this film is over the top, the humorous jokes were times perfectly and only comes from the beginning and to the halfway of the movie, the rest was serious. I guess ur just one of those people who really liked guardians of the galaxy and thinks other marvel stories are "crap".
I understand. It's like going into a restaurant that you noticed had poor service. You've had the same ppl giving you the same service and menu selection. How many times should you go back to that same resturant, before you realize that you just don't like it?
As a superhero movie it did its job well. But by god it is OVERRATED!!! Sure it has great action, good characters etc but in general it is not a masterpiece. By far from one in fact.
Django Unchained to me was the best movie of 2012. Avengers is maybe number 3.

This is something I've been saying since I came out of the theatre for Avengers - they are completely different genres of movie. One is a pure entertainment superhero action flick and the other is a crime/thriller movie (with war movie creeping into TDKR) with a dash of superhero thrown in. The only comparison is that they're both based on "superheroes" - and there are a lot of them about. You wouldn't compare Batman to Deadpool either, they both do something different in their comics.
Really surprised you gave this movie an A+. If Michael Bay's name was listed as director, guarantee everyone would stop obsessing over it.

I think it is an excellent film, but I would've given it a B+ or A-. When I first saw it, I thought it was the best thing ever created by mankind. However, as I've gotten older, my rating for it has dropped. I don't know why, I just prefer it when superhero films have a darker tone. That is why I am EXTREMELY looking forward to Avengers: Age of Ultron. Great review, btw.

It deserves an A+ because the movie is exactly as it was advertised, imo. My interest in this movie has also dropped over time but I'd still give it A+ because after seeing the trailers for the movie and after all the buildup i wasn't disappointed. Any product that gives you exactly what was advertised or more deserves an A+

I can't believe all the high praise for this film. It was so-so at best.
Well, doing an MCU run whilst in quarantine and I just finished Avengers Assemble. This has been, and still is, my favourite of all the MCU movies so far. Very well-paced, and had the right mix of comedy vs action vs emotional moments, excellent CGI and tied together all the heroes almost seamlessly. Maybe I'm biased because this was the movie that brought me in to the Marvel world, but the other movies, whilst great, just don't leave me satisfied like this one.
