    Great video again, It's awesome hearing about what these modders think and it sounds like they'll do wonders with Starfield. Seamless traversal in space between planets/systems is huge news. I like fast travel too, but going from New Atlantis to Akila could actually feel dangerous, could make hauling/transporting people feel satisfying. That reddit post you referenced made so much sense as to why the game feels a bit under baked, it was meant to be a survival game.

      @shilohmc  10 місяців тому +1

      Thank you Lesmoe! I am down for removing fast travel for game loops like that and I hope modders really play with the boarders more and economy. Aroura should cost so much more in UC space, you know? That Reddit post really made so much sense, especially knowing planets are 3D models. I really want to know Bethesdas original vision.

    EnaiSiaion shared some of his ideas for the combat balancing on a Reddit post I made and Im pretty excited for his (her?) implementation to come to light. I also really want an alternate start mod.
    The thing with Starfield, at least for me, is that I dont know how much can be made to circle around the sub par "going from point A to B" implementation. I know it is not a space sim, but the meat and bones of the good bethesda games lies in the journeys and not into its destinations, which is something entirely absent from a game that wants you to fast travel to the quest location at every opportunity.
    My idea was to create jumpgates at fixed places in every star system that you need to travel to in order to activate fast travel between star systems. Each jump gate leads only to X nearby systems so you need to know which one to go, like a highway. Fast travel is enabled by default within a star system, which is reasonable for a warp drive in a small ship, while jump gates are like gargantuan warp drives used by smaller ships to travel between systems.
    Again, this wouldnt solve the matter entirely but it would make the gameplay more involved.
    Btw, I remember flashyjoer commenting he was a babylon 5 fan on one of your previous interviews (I guess it was him), so he knows what Im talking about. Please forward him my suggestion lol. It preserves fast travel the way he likes but makes it more "grounded" and involved, and flashyjoer is the kind of guy that likes to develop in-game systems. I should know since AN76 is my favorite FO4 mod.

      Its funny, I actually know someone who has 3D Stargate models and he was planning on putting them in even before the release of Starfield. The man has some serious insight lol. It really shouldn't be that hard since we know that all the planets are 3D models. The hardest part will be making a bunch of new encounters when traveling around the system. That is probably the reason why Bethesda decided to cut in system travel in the first place. Thanks for the comment Marcon, I always appreciate it.

    I think new game Plus is Bethesda version of all the alternate start mods. Which I think is pretty cool

      True but as Flashy said, I hope they make the NG+ easily editable in the CK. That can really be a whole series of great mods that come from NG.

    258 hours according to Steam at the time of this writing. I think I am qualified enough to give a valid opinion of the game. This may get long...
    For a little context, I am an enjoyer of BGS titles so I'm not sure if that automatically makes me biased or not. I have a philosophy with every game I've ever played since people first started making mods for games, which is that I will experience as much of the 'stock' game as possible before I ever install a mod. I want to experience the game as the developers intended me to. People that don't do this really shouldn't have any say if a mod makes that aspect better if they only experienced the 'stock' for 5 minutes before resorting to a mod to change it.
    Potential spoilers beyond!!!
    I'm bored with Starfield now. Well I'm not uninstall it bored yet but I feel like I've seen everything the game has to offer, even though I haven't done the Freestar collective quest line. I've done the UC and sided with the UC to bring down the crimson fleet (fuck pirates) which coincidentally includes the crimson fleet quest line by default. I've found all the ships and done most of those quirky side quests you've heard of or done yourself, I've already tried NG+ and didn't like it, but there is potential there. So while I have yet to 100% do every single possible story line and side quest, some I've chosen not to proceed with for moral reasons. I don't care if it's a video game I just cannot ever bring myself around to play the 'evil' guy (pirate in this case) in a video game. So on that front, I cannot speak for any kind of evil gameplay loops Starfield may have.
    It's a BGS game at the end of the day and we all know modders will absolutely extend the games lifespan for decades to come. Give this some thought, I'm sure you've already come to the same conclusion: Every spot on a planet you land on has an invisible wall denoting what I would consider an area big enough to fit the entire map of some prior BGS games into it. Okay? I don't know the exact figures and honestly it doesn't matter as my point is there are enough planets and moons across as many systems (they can add more of those too) for every mod author to have the equivalent of an entire Skyrim map to themselves without any overlapping whatsoever. A mod author can call an entire planet/moon their own for all of their mods (if they do that kind of mod). New bases, POIs, dungeons, questlines.... Limitless.
    Starfield is a good game 'stock' and I think the last guy you quoted was spot on with his reasoning/assumption. I can't and couldn't have said it any better. The game doesn't suck, the player does. I'm not saying Starfield is the greatest game ever made and there's not even any but's.
    I paid $100 for 258 hours of entertainment so far. Give me another example from any aspect of life that can match that??? I spent more on a firework pack that lasted maybe 5 minutes. Your only real choice is another game possibly made by another developer, which just further backs up my point that I am having fun and am satisfied with my purchase and I really don't care what other people think. There is such a thing as playing a game wrong but that's a topic all to itself.

      That's really well put, the amount of content in this game is massive but the room for modding is enormous. This game is going to grow over the years and I think Bethesda put a quality game out that is begging to be modded and modders are already lining up. I think a lot of these people who hate on Starfield will be modding it and playing it for hundreds of hours even if they don't say it publicly lol.

    I will say this game is way more playable upon vanilla release compared to Fallout 4 and Skyrim. I tried Fallout 4 before modding and probably within 30 minutes to hour I dropped because i did not like how it played. Skyrim SE vanilla I could play too without really dropping but the ugly NPCs got me modding almost right away, lol. Once I started modding Fallout 4 though it became one of my favorite games. There are many things I dislike about Starfield but yet I keep playing it so it obviously has enough "something" currently despite some of the glaring downsides to keep me coming back and playing. I'm tired of seeing the complaint of all the dungeons and enemy NPCs and what not looking the same which to me is hypocritical statement. Fallout 4 and Skyrim have the same dungeon and enemy types that never change yet people contnually play them and the same can be said for other games too, especially FPS games often have cloned play fields or dungeon spaces, so to me that gripe is nonsense. Also, I am sure BGS will be adding content in DLC and maybe some free updates to make the dungeon "cloning" less noticeable. I'm actually surprised that BGS pulled off making a game of this size. I am also getting annoyed with people comparing Cyberpunk current year to Starfield when Cyberpunk on release was in a far, far worse than Starfield vanilla release, same thing with comparing it NMS and Starcitizen, yes the last two are space games but totally different genres. Granted Starfield is part sim but it is more RPG story driven than those, hence why it has small elements from both. I really wish we did not have to wait three months or more for the new Creation Kit to be released.

    • @shilohmc
      @shilohmc  10 місяців тому +1

      I agree, it's amazing how many people are aggressively trying to take down the game. I have No Man Sky, and I always get bored with how empty the game feels but its a casual game, I get it. Even so, its taken how long to get to that point? Star Citizen is Star Citizen, they have used so much money over 10 years and the PTU is still a mess (a fun mess with other players) but not even close to a complete game. It's one of Bethesdas best launch titles and some people are trying to paint it like its 76. Anyway, thanks for the comment, I appreciate you.

    Excellent video!
    By now I have played Starfield for over 80 hours and I just finished the main quest line and a few side quests - and looked briefly into ship and outpost building.
    I would say Bethesda delivered the most expandable/modable platform for open world roleplaying games. (Looking at available *content* mods on Nexus for popular non-Bethesda RPGs...)
    Surely there will be a plethora of (not only) modded expansions for Starfield in the future, many kinds we don't even think of at the moment. I take the current state of Starfield as a foundation with a big set of systems/tools/ideas, a framework with a reference implementaion if you like. And boy, do those possibilities look *nice*.
    My initial doubts about the feasibility of adding ground vehicles are nearly gone, too. Those landing zones are vast. Hey, you can leave Akila or New Atlantis and wander off in the wilderness!
    Still, there are those pesky old well-known problems with the engine when moving fast, though.
    P.S. I'm pretty convinced all those people complaining about not being able to manually fly to planets and stars don't have the slightest clue about the distances and therefore travel times needed. Ultimately you *will* need some kind of FTL drive - and what's the difference to 'Fast Travel' then?

    • @shilohmc
      @shilohmc  10 місяців тому +1

      100%, I think it suffered from culture BS, exclusivity and Hype but every mod author I have heard back from are enjoying it because it is a real Bethesda game. They wanted that because thats what we have enjoyed with all these titles. Starfield is in a really good position to be the most modded game ever (well maybe not beating minecraft) because the actual people doing the mods enjoy this Engine and the game.

      Outposting is not even worth it right now as there is no immersive reason to work on them like in Fallout 4. Right now you can't even recruit "settlers" or colonists to live in your base. When they originally showed outposts I thought I would get yes establish an outpost and then transform or upgrade into small city or town, and then later turn into a capital city for the world, your world. Yes, I would like to be able to build my own Star or Cosmic nation, country, or empire, but nope. However, I guess at least the foundation(?) is there since they put in base building even though it's very limiting right now and only good for making credits and xp farming.

Perma banned for spoiling the ending of a 20 year old game. How long is long enough to stop caring about spoiling something for someone?
