Jerrys subtle looks to the band are so sick, with just one look he can say “allright im about to go in for a facemelter!” Hahahaha wish i was around back then
Behold a dear friend, one of the most honest musicians of our time. With Jerrys music and the lyrics of Robert Hunter, we were given a glimpse of a whimsical, yet familiar world to which we all can relate.
The everlasting mark these songs make on you...incredible. I wonder if they had any idea the amount of power these songs would garner over time as they wrote them into existence . Fucking excellent, grateful to be in the experience
You can easily tell that Jerry is having so much fun playing this song R.I.P. all the passed JGB/GratefulDead players. I agree striperjoe29 that's what I want to hear when I pass through Heaven. I can already imagine it.
Also you can tell Melvin is because look at him go! He's jammong away just playing his heart out just having so much fun in these shows. R.I.P. I bet they're jamming away Heaven right now as the best playing band in Heaven. They won't have to worry about anything in Heaven altough I wish none of them passed. I want to see them live one more time. I'd probably give my soul to see them playing again. Please come back to Earth!!!
Run, run, run for the roses Quicker it opens, the sooner it closes Man, oh, man, oh, friend of mine All good things in all good time Reach for the sun, catch hold of the moon They're both too heavy but what can you do? Reach for the stars, smack into the sky You don't want to live but you're chicken to die Oh, you're chicken to die Run, run, run for the roses Quicker it opens, the sooner it closes Man, oh, man, oh, friend of mine All good things in all good time Run for the money, caught short on the rent Big ideas but the cash's all spent The trouble with love is its other face You just want the club but you don't want the race No, you don't want the race Run, run, run for the roses Quicker it opens, the sooner it closes Man, oh, man, oh, friend of mine All good things in all good time Run for the rose, get caught on the briar You're warming to love, next thing, there's a fire You got the do re, I got the mi And I got the notion, we're all at sea Yes, we're all at sea Run, run, run for the roses Quicker it opens, the sooner it closes Man, oh, man, oh, friend of mine All good things in all good time Run, run, run for the roses Quicker it opens, the sooner it closes Man, oh, man, oh, friend of mine All good things in all good time Run, run, run for the roses Quicker it opens, the sooner it closes Man, oh, man, oh, friend of mine All good things in all good time All good things in all good time
Man, I remember this night. Like every song was sung for Brent. Such a somber undertone. Jerry still manages to smile:) and still perform a great show. Wish everyone I love could've experienced what we did, but I guess it was just meant for us afterall..Where have all the flower children gone? I really miss my "Dead Family". Haven't seen any of you in a long while. Wish it didn't feel like it was another lifetime. Wish I could have just one more...I really, really miss you Jerry.. St. Stephen...
God Bless The Grateful Dead! I miss that crazy roving carnival! So much fun and good times. I'm glad I was part of it cause now I can share all those great times with a generation of friends who never got to be a part of it. The Dead really were a band for the people!
Woah! He's still alive! Even when I thought he died he was still alive in my heart. But i'm still so glad he's alive but Jerry I know is dead D: \,,,/ RIP Jerry \,,,/
Mario Paone nope, I'm seeing him in a couple days, I've seen him the last three years straight in Denver. I met the two singers you see there with Jerry. They are the most humble, talented and appreciative stars I've met. I told them how thankful I am for them and the music they made with Jerry. I'm going to wait and see if I can meet them again in a couple days. Best music around, all soul and lifeblood.
Listen to Melvin! He is the best organ/piano/keyboard player ever! Also that voice of Jerry sadly they both passed but i have a reccomended book to read about Phil's life called Phil Lesh Searching for the Sound
Absolutely love JGB. While the Dead was melting down his band just kept getting better, well, except for Jerry’s occasional disregard for the lyrics. His dialogs with Melvin were insane, as was Melvin’s playing in general. It’s a shame there are so many Dead clips floating around but so few like this, especially the 80’s.
@setboy1 This is from an album review of Run For The Roses..Imk not alone on this...open your ears and bite your tongue. Run for the Roses review The CD Run for the Roses is Jerry Garcias last solo studio release with his electric band. The title track has a catchy melodic phrase that has guitar runs reminding me of the Grateful Deads hit Touch of Grey.
Hey can anyone point me in the direction of a version where jerry & Melvin play the high riff together during jerrys solo? I've heard one and don't onowcthe dates but it was so great and fluid. Thanks people. (~}` NFA
And so the director, if you can call them that, once again cuts away just before one of the guys does a "How'd he do that?"- like 3:39 or so, he's about to do one of those triple run pulloffs that he does, or something like that- but whatever it may be, it's usually lost to a cover shot of Kahn or something. I loved John, but face it, he was what you'd say of a demure disposition.
This was from Shoreline (Mountain View CA) on Sept. 1st 1990. The Grateful Dead were supposed to play there that weekend, but Brent Mydland died a few weeks before so the GD cancelled the shows, but the Jerry Garcia Band (with Los Lobos opening up) played on the Saturday night. It was my first JGB show, I can remember it like it was yesterday. I was also at that sublime Squaw Valley weekend in Aug. 1991. What a blast---Jimmy Cliff, Neville Brothers, Bela Fleck along with Jerry. Some of the finest times of my life were spent travelling the country, listening to Garcia's music...
Couple of thoughts.......how come this guy never played with the dead on keyboards with all the deads key problems, second the vocals are bad, third they warmed up and sounded like the actual songs the 3rd verse.
Jerrys subtle looks to the band are so sick, with just one look he can say “allright im about to go in for a facemelter!” Hahahaha wish i was around back then
Go. Jerry
It was beautiful no doubt. He was generous, and very professional and disciplined in terms of giving the fans something to work with!
I used to play this song through my headphones while riding my bicycle through New Orleans. Oh! Good times!
I could never get enough of this stuff.....even when Jerry was alive. Insatiable.
All good things in all good time.
I still miss Jerry. Thanks for posting this. I watch and listen often. 💜
Nice! I remember first hearing this in 97,98 and it sent me on a journey!!
I've listened to 1000 times, still brings a smile
all good things in all good time! Thanks for posting..
Man I still get shivers listening to Jerry. I really miss his voice and licks he put out.
Never got to see Jerry really.. but he’s taught me everything
Behold a dear friend, one of the most honest musicians of our time. With Jerrys music and the lyrics of Robert Hunter, we were given a glimpse of a whimsical, yet familiar world to which we all can relate.
I went out and bought the album in 83, another song of his that I thought deserved alot more play time. Ilove this song.
When you love someone they never leave you.....
Until the lawyer calls
😂
Touch of grey teasers all over that solo!
The everlasting mark these songs make on you...incredible. I wonder if they had any idea the amount of power these songs would garner over time as they wrote them into existence . Fucking excellent, grateful to be in the experience

Jerry is like Picasso on that guitar ... Run for the Doses
😛😛😛😛😛
Happy Birthday Jerry. and whoever is on drums is killing it.
David Kemper.....and he was by far the best JGB drummer through 3 decades (with Ronnie Tutt coming in second)
very highhat-y
Life is like a lotus blossom it will unfold before you: the quicker it opens the sooner it closes
I bought the album in 83, this song has been one of my favorites ever since.
Also you can tell Melvin is because look at him go! He's jammong away just playing his heart out just having so much fun in these shows. R.I.P. Melvin is not dead.
Melvin is currently touring. He's scheduled to play a couple of days at Skull and Roses in Ventura County, California, April 2024. He's magical.
Run, run, run for the roses
Quicker it opens, the sooner it closes
Man, oh, man, oh, friend of mine
All good things in all good time
Reach for the sun, catch hold of the moon
They're both too heavy but what can you do?
Reach for the stars, smack into the sky
You don't want to live but you're chicken to die
Oh, you're chicken to die
Run, run, run for the roses
Quicker it opens, the sooner it closes
Man, oh, man, oh, friend of mine
All good things in all good time
Run for the money, caught short on the rent
Big ideas but the cash's all spent
The trouble with love is its other face
You just want the club but you don't want the race
No, you don't want the race
Run, run, run for the roses
Quicker it opens, the sooner it closes
Man, oh, man, oh, friend of mine
All good things in all good time
Run for the rose, get caught on the briar
You're warming to love, next thing, there's a fire
You got the do re, I got the mi
And I got the notion, we're all at sea
Yes, we're all at sea
Run, run, run for the roses

Run, run, run for the roses
Quicker it opens, the sooner it closes
Man, oh, man, oh, friend of mine
All good things in all good time
All good things in all good time
What's it all about?
@nef...love

Man oh man oh friend of mine. All good things in all good time.
Deep..
This is such a kind song! I love Jerry's tiger guitar and the backup singers.
God Bless The Grateful Dead! I miss that crazy roving carnival! So much fun and good times. I'm glad I was part of it cause now I can share all those great times with a generation of friends who never got to be a part of it. The Dead really were a band for the people!

I could listen to this song and cry for hours on end, wish I couldve been born in a simpler more loving time
LOL.. like the vietnam era when the forced 80k to be turned into hamburger meat. Or the 80's when reagan almost started WW3?

Woah! He's still alive! Even when I thought he died he was still alive in my heart. But i'm still so glad he's alive but Jerry I know is dead D:

I cry when i hear this . It's so great, and the great Jerry is dead =[

Mario Paone nope, I'm seeing him in a couple days, I've seen him the last three years straight in Denver. I met the two singers you see there with Jerry. Melvin Seals ROCKS!!!!!!!
My Friend, you said it so well..............I've been thinking about this very thought lately, no Jerry sucks!!! Thanks for the thought.
reminds me of my fellow bros. and sisters.jgb 93 !!!
brilliant words from robert hunter
The song was written by Dan Fogelberg.
no it wasn't. two totally different songs. Written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter
My mistake, you are right, they are 2 different songs. Lyricsfreak mistakenly has Fogelberg as the writer of of both of them.
🦋😎🌹🐢🗽🍭🏩⛑🛸
thanks St Jerry
reminds me of jgb 93 great times!!!!
Happy birthday Jerry!
RIP Jerrbear
I'm on an android and videos are not all that but I love it nonetheless

😊❤❤🎉🎉😊😊😊
Big ideas but the cash is all spent.
Swabe
After2:30 he goes into a touch of grey jam!
I followed Jerry for decades (yes, I'm old) David Kemper was, hands-down JGB's BEST drummer. Why he got canned, no idea.
Tutt comes in second.
@2:10 sounds like he mixes in and borrows a little Touch of Grey solo.
@setboy1 Dont be rude. He plays the main phrase from touch of gray, its only like a 5 sec thing, it appears at aropund 2:16 also.
Jerry laid in lots of little melodic ideas in his solos. He was masterful that way.
fuck yeah all good things in all good time i feel it :)
I like Bobby's take
@setboy1

@glotzotron melvin played me...(and a few others) A PRIVATE SHOW AT ECHO LAKE , NEW YORK IN 2205....far out....all good things in all good time
3:38 John Kahn drops a bomb.
Where was this show? I've seen Jerry's band a few times and it looks about the time I saw him back in 1991 in Sqaw Valley.
