Great presentation and explanation definitely one of the more complete truck camper videos out there. Mechanically your 2500 is far better equipped than any 3500 stock truck. For those questioning this build please continue to read. It's not practical for commercial companies to purchase vehicles and modify them, this is why the stock sticker is for the stock configuration. Interesting tidbit, there's only 90lbs of difference between a 5th gen 2500 and 3500, which is the result of higher rated front springs and rear leaf springs with equally higher payload rating. The 5th gen 2500 and 3500 use the same rear differential assembly, axle, bearings, brakes and many other components, the engines and transmissions are the same as well. Their stock rating reflects guidelines for commercial usage based on stock configuration and since most fleet cannot modify their fleet vehicles they purchase the 3500's if it meets their payload/towing needs. One can only imagine having a fleet of 2500's with different suspension systems it would be a nightmare to keep parts on hand. For those that want a turn key stock solution the 3500's are ideal, for those than want rear springs with a custom configuration the 2500's can be a better fit for personal usage. Modified vehicles can be very difficult to use commercially unless the vehicle undergoes re-rating which is not very common and requires additional costs and time. Again, another reason that commercial and fleet managers purchase fit for purpose vehicles rather than tuners.
Thanks!
Wow what a high center of gravity with that lift
It raises it a little bit, just need to be cautious and conscious while driving it just like towing any large trailer
Fantastic video and setup
Thank you!
Sweet setup!
Thanks!
Awesome setup
Thanks!
Nice setup
Thank you!
A very informative video. We've just purchased an HS-2901. Your loading instructions were very helpful. Thanks!
Glad to help! Enjoy the new camper!
Great looking Rig you have! Thanks for the great video! I just bought a 2017 RAM 2500 with 6.5 Bed and same basic camper length. The rear tie downs are frame mounted and this puts the chain angle at 45 degrees. I like how your attach to the hitch, no severe front angle, seems stronger and less prone to the camper porpoising. Did you start out with frame mounts and move the the hitch tie down? I'm thinking of keeping the frame mounts and adding straps to the hitch as you have. Any thoughts?
Very nice
I have a 3500 dodge does handle good thats about it.
Thanks for the vid. Good looking setup. How far do you think the camper would stick out the back of a 2020 Silverado 3500 with a standard size 6' 10" bed with the tailgate down of course.
It should hang out about exactly the same, it’s a great camper, we really enjoyed it!
if ya aint already figured it out, Chevrolet beds are slimmer than Dodge (and i believe Ford as well) beds, sierra and silverado both have slimmer wheel well profiles inside the beds
What do you have in the rear to support the camper? Timbrens? Air bags? Thanks
Load lifter 7500 xl air bags with a hellwig sway bar
Did you do an aftermarket sway bar? What size lift did you do on yours ?? I have ram 1500 with a polimino back pack. I was going to do some stuff to mine..
I didn’t watching far enough. That looks bigger than 4”.. checking into the hellcat sway arm.
Definitely need the sway bar!
Great video man. Did you install a Class V hitch on there too?
Thank you, yes that is a Class V hitch 2-1/2”. The stock tubular hitch scares me lol
@@9NailzGarage same. I just bought a 2012 3500 SRW and it still has the 2” receiver. Gonna upgrade asap
@@Bigdaddyshayne6.7 it’s cheap and easy to install insurance!
serious question. with that height and susceptibility to crosswinds does regular vehicle insurance cover this type of setup?
Height is 12' 8", I haven't had any issues in the past 10k miles with it and I've been through some pretty bad mid-west storms. Thanks for the concern
Quick question would i be able to put that camper configuration on my 2016 Ford F250 Super Duty crew cab ultimate Lariat 6.7 turbo diesel?
Thanks… thanks the video.👍🏼
This camper fits long or short beds, it should fit perfectly. You’ll definitely need airbags though.
Did you buy new? Are they pricey? Do you still have? If not, why not?
Thanks for great video!!
Bought it used, used it for three years and sold it cause we had to move across country for my job. It was a great camper though, we had a lot of fun with it!
Did you have to special order the truck camper arms/legs? My truck has a lift but I need blocks for my truck camper legs
Those were the stock legs that came on the camper. The truck has a 4.5” lift on it
How overweight are you? I have a 350 Super Duty with a payload sticker of 3400. I’m guessing I’d be 600-800 over - should I be worried?
Just about any pickup camper needs the addition of a heavy duty sway bar and air bags. If you don’t have them I’d get them, as well as 12 ply tires if you’ve got a srw.
Great info and vid!!! My wife and I are heading out tomorrow to look at a 2017 2902. Any tips on things to look out for and questions to ask. If we get it, it'll be on a 2018 ram 3500 SRW short bed.
Thanks! It's really been a great camper and we've gotten a lot of use out of it. Camper basics, check the condition of the roof, run the ac, furnace, fridge ect. No real specific issues with the camper that I can think of. It is heavy so you might need airbags. It also takes a bit of getting used to getting it on the truck as well, it gets easier the more you do it, most importantly make sure its centered with a tape measure, if not you'll know it! Good luck with the camper! Hope you enjoy it!
Great video. Can the step be removed so a horse trailer or a couple of seadoos can be trailered?
Yes it can be removed
@@9NailzGarage thx
Geez, isn't that a 3000+ lb camper on a Ram 2500 cummins with a 2300lb pay load, and super top heavy. Seems like an accident and breakdown waiting to happen.
7500 pound air bags, 12 ply tires, covered.
@@delbertdevries6127 Does not ever increase the Door stickered Max payload capacity or GAWR.... EVER! Legally in an accident... he's screwed!
@@mIkEy-er9fo as a cdl driver I am well aware of that. Mechanically he’s covered is all I’m saying. Most one ton truck camper combos are over loaded
@@delbertdevries6127 Yessir Mechanically he is Ok but as you now Legally well...yeah....don’t get caught. I agree with you on the One Tons being overloaded as well. “The Stupid” Doesn’t stop just because they get a more capable truck. LOL
What year is your truck? Is that a 4th gen bumper? Is that an aftermarket grill?
It’s an 07, 3rd gen sport bumper and a sport grill
Can u pull a trailer with a long bed truck?
It’s hard to say cause the step sticks out probably about 2 foot past where it would sit on a long bed truck. I’m sure it’d be perfect with an extension hitch, I’d just be careful with tongue weight. I’d reccomend a 3500
I've got the same exact camper. Thought I would have loved this thing but turns out in stead of palomino it's palajunko. Check plumbing to see if hooked up from factory. Several problems not happy at all. Sorry but true !!!
Reading lights twords the front glass just falls apart. Had the camper less just over a yr. Had to do a complete roof replacement. Wood underneath rubber started separating. Would not recommend buying this one.
@@brucehall5267 I understand, many campers are cheaply made and need to be used with this in mind. I’ve had bad experiences with previous campers but this ones treated us good so far.
I have a ram 2500 CTD we hardly use it been looking at Motorhomes. The pickup have we hardly use and a motorhome when I can just put a camper on the back of my pickup. My 2015 diesel pickup only has 40k on it like brand new I know the engine is much better than some motorhome that has 150k on a ford 5.4 or 6.8 engine which are known to have issues when the miles get up there. Nothing better than a turbo diesel it's already 4wd. The cool thing about a camper is can park it almost anywhere lot of national parks campgrounds are limited to 20-25 feet long. You don't need an extra car to tow behind it. I haven't decided yet the only good thing about a motorhome is just park it and go in the back and sleep our dogs have more room, built in Generator. Might be able to retrofit a generator bolt it up behind the tail gate area. Solar system with lithium batteries would be easier on a motorhome. Seems like if I do go with the motorhome just sell the pickup buy a older Tacoma for stuff around the house.
Pickup campers are the way to go!
What was the brand for your air bags
Air lift 7500xl
Did you upgrade the front suspension at all?
No much needed there. The weight is all over the rear of the truck. Air bags are a must to level and help with corners.
I got an 06 Ram 2500 with an 8 inch lift and I was thinking about a slide in. Then I killed that thought because I never thought I could get jacks that could go that high and thought if I'm driving through some switch backs I would have to literally have to drive at walking speed to avoid tipping over. I have airbags as well. Did you have to go with a bigger set of jacks?
Probably a smarter idea to go with a pop up in your setting
How much dose you camper weigh
3,261 lbs
@@9NailzGarage And what's the max payload of you Ram .... 2500?
That looks like an accident waiting to happen. One sharp corner and look out! Nice looking truck and camper though. Get a dually and be safe!
Cost ?
Just sold it a few months ago for 22k.
Curious why you sold. Structural issues? Asking bc I’m about to buy a 2910 model. Thanks and great video.
Dude, your rear tie downs.....ratchet straps? Really? Too much camper for too little truck. Seriously overloaded.
My 2016 leaked before I bought in rot under the galley beware poor quality
Yea, gotta be careful with any cheaper camper. They require a lot of maintenance to keep them like new
A rolling liability. Should not be broadcasting going way over payload. Airbags do not increase payload. Sway bars do not increase payload.
Wow that looks extremely unsafe
Haha thanks!
