- Follow along with Jane as she demonstrates her latest tutorial of a lake cottage surrounded by pine trees and flowers. Using hookers green deep, which is almost black in color, she lays out her painting on the red/orange painted canvas. She then starts adding to the canvas in her negative painting style--the sky is painted last. For more information on her favorite acrylic paint brushes and colors as well as classes for purchase, visit her website JaneSlivkaGallery.com
To loosen up is such a struggle for me. I need to not take myself so serious and just enjoy the process. Thank you for this demonstration.
You are so welcome!
I'm learning so much about loosening up and going for the effect rather than details. Thanks for this wonderful example of how to paint with courage and confidence.
You are so welcome! Thank you for your feed back.
Thanks for showing the “struggles” too! I love your style of painting! Another fantastic tutorial!❤️
You are so welcome! Thank you for commenting. And yes, I struggle too.
I really love the brave and bold style of your painting. I am so exact that this really helps me. I might paint MORE often if I can enjoy the process so much more
You are so welcome Enjoy and have fun with the process.
Thanks Jane & Jane! I LOVE this one!
Our pleasure!
Soooo happy to see you back Jane xoxo
Yay, thank you! Me, too.
I can’t tell you how excited I am when you and Jane post a new video! Thank you for sharing your process with us (I’m coming around to the red background). It’s very helpful to know that professionals run into issues, and seeing you solve the problem is very reassuring to us amateurs!
Thank you so much for your comment. I appreciate it!
Would love to sometimes here n there.. be able to see the reference photo.. gives us a good example of how "free" we can actually be 😊👍 Thank you. BEAUTIFUL
Thank you for your suggestion and for your comment.
Love it Jane and I think everyone struggles w prospective. When you layout your subject do you go through the process of composition, rule of thirds, etc. I have to learn to slow down and get it right straight away. I love your paintings, beautiful
I think i should slow down at certain stages! I think about composition throughout the whole process.
Lovely fresh looking painting
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Hallelujah! Jane is back! I can’t wait to see it 🤗thank you! 💕
You are welcome, and thank you for watching!
Love your style.
Thank you!
Beautiful but may I suggest not having the camera so close for long periods of time, it's hard to see the whole movement of the painting. Enjoy watching!
Thank you for your feedback. Appreciated!
So happy for a new painting. Can't wait to try it. ❤
Hope you enjoy it!
I love this painting. I would love to live in the house. Another fun lesson you gave us.😊

Perspective is one of the toughest things for me! I'm trying hard to loosen up, but it is a real struggle. 😉

This is stunning! Thank you for showing how to go about painting a pine tree. There are no palm trees herecin Alberta, Canada! Lol...
Thank you so much! I will try to tear myself away from painting palm trees.
Oh no! I love your palm trees! I just had no idea how to paint the pines & spruce. Our son &wife moved to Florida so I will do a Christmas card with a Florida theme! Thank you and Jane 2, for making these videos. VERY much appreciated.

Thank you for sharing your struggles and how you approach handling missteps.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching.
I love this! Going to buy some paints right now
Great and have fun!
This is an embarrassing question. How do you not end up with paint all the way up the bristles? It sounds like you are really laying down paint, so not really being gentle. It's it the quality of the Princeton brush, or ........?☺️☺️
So thankful i found your channel!
I am so glad you found my channel. I don't know the answer to your quesiton. I load a lot of paint on the tip of my brush. Maybe that's the difference. Also, I do love my brushes and using Liquitex heavy body acrylic paints.
Thanks for sharing, Jane! It's a lot to learn from you. May I suggest that the camera lady, to refrain from making so many adjustments while she is recording? The image was out of focus frequently, especially at the beginning. Then, at the end of the tutorial, she zoomed in for too long. When you were talking about comparing the two areas - with the green used for the sea only and with the same green added to the flowers. I couldn't compare, because I couldn't see the sea. I appreciate that she is adding valuable information regarding the colours used and such. And I don't wish her to be disheartened. Maybe the camera she uses needs some adjustments before the recordings...Anyway, you are a great artist, with or without those filming errors.
Thanks so much for your feedback. We have started using a different set up with the camera in our latest tutorials. Hope this will be better for you. Again, thank you!
Bravo Jane! You are an inspiration! Can you please tell me if you add coats of gesso under the cad. red base colour? Thank you 🤗
Thank you! I purchase pre prime/gesso canvas.
@@freedomofacrylicswithartis5133 thank you Jane!
Excellent
Thank you!
Love your paintings. What brand acrylic paints do you use?
Thank you! I like to use Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylics.
I'm glad you changed the water it started to look more like a fish tank.
I am too.It needed it.
Hi Jane: I wanted to ask you how you get rid of a mistake made at the hookers green stage. I tried painting over the dried green paint using the orange acrylic I had used as an underpainting to tone the canvas. I had to actually block out the unwanted patch of dark green with thick gesso, then going over the spot with the orange paint. How do you correct or eliminate an error
I usually just let the paint completely dry, and then i paint over it. I don't try to make it orange again. You should be able to cover the green if it is totally dry.
Definitely enjoy your artwork. Can the camera person put the camera on a tripod to alleviate all the movement? Thanks!
Using a handheld camera was an experiement that wasn't a good idea. In our latest tutoirals, they were shot using a tripod.
Thank you
❤
You're welcome!
👏💚
Thank you!
Absolutely love your style of painting !!! What size canvases do you typically use ?
Thank you! I don't have a favorite canvas size, but I love to paint on bigger convases because it tends to make paint looser. 3'x4' is a fun size for me.
@@freedomofacrylicswithartis5133 yes i quickly realized that your style of painting works best on larger canvases after trying my first one on an 11x14 lol. Those large ones are so $$$$ though ! 💕
Lol Northern house 🇨🇦👋
Thank you for your feedback. The photo I used was taken in Michigan.
Could not get the porch angle right. I just wouldn't look right.
I was not really happy how the house looked either, so after having it sit around the studio for weeks, I revised it. We just completed a tutorial where I show what I changed in five paintings.
I admire your work , but can we see the photo you copy a little, while you are painting.
Thank you! When we can, we usually insert the reference photo in the video.
