The “VTEC Killer” name came from TODA for the B16 & B18C engines. Their kit has custom cams with only 2 lobes per cylinder and custom rocker arms. Since they were taking the VTEC B series heads and eliminating the VTEC system, they were “killing” the VTEC system. By eliminating the 3rd cam lobe, middle rocker, and lost motion assembly, the entire valvetrain was lighter which is beneficitial for reving out to 11K and 12K RPM as they often did in N1 and Touring racing. For the K series, the name just sort of stuck, even though it’s not really a VTEC Killer like TODA’s but rather simply locking the VTEC lobes in order to use the bigger cams feom the performance i-VTEC engines. Fas forward to 2022/2023 and Skunk2 now has their TLRC valvetrain for B series which the same design idea as TODA’s VTEC Killer but with custom roller rockers. They also have their BMF for K series with single lobes, custom single lobe rockers, and standard adjustable cam gears that eliminate VTC.
D16y8 rockers can be swapped into the y7 head to use vtec killer in the same way the k20a3 does. It isn't a huge bump obviously but it works the exact same. And works very well as an upgrade for a turbo engine
I’m a fan of the K-series “vtec killer” stuff because the k24a1 heads are super cheap and are essentially k20a2 head port design without the LMA pocket. Also, I weighed a set of “vtec” rocker arms and stock k20a2 cams vs k24a1 rocker arms and a2 cams with the primary lobes removed and vtec lobe narrowed and it is literally several pounds lighter!
I'm in the process of k swapping my integra. I agree that it can be affordable depending on how you want to set it up. I got a k24a and I'm using a tsx 6 speed because that was the best bang for my buck. The more expensive stuff depends on how you do everything else around the swap. Most of my parts are k tuned, hybrid racing, and rywire. But people don't have to go that route. It was roughly the same price for my b series high hp setup that you built for me. As the years go on b series stuff prices will continue to go up and k series will come down. I know I don't comment much but I always keep up with your videos. I appreciate all the knowledge that you put out on here.
I'm Putting one in my 95 Saturn Sl2, bought the Vtech killer rockers today, head swapping a A2 RSX head on a K20a3 with forged bottom end, probably gonna bump the compression up to 10.5 to 1, I'm boosting it also. I guess after I watched this dude's expertise, I'm likely gonna get cams now to get the real benefit from the Vtech killers....lol Should still be nice. My Saturn is at least 7-800 Lbs lighter than a civic and I got a Seibon Carbon hood on it with Einkei RPF1 15X7's on the car that weigh 9.8 LBS and aiming for 400+ HP.
I'm working on a 2012 Accord K24z2, I was wondering if a K24a2 RBB1 cam would work in this head. The K24z head only has vtec on the exhaust cam I believe. So i would want to change out the exhaust cam for a K24a2 which I believe is bigger, its a 2004 model RBB-1 head. I thought about just putting the A2 head on the K24z2 bottom end but I think that might be more trouble than it's worth. If I could use the A2 cam and VTC on the Accord I think I would be much better off. Thanks for your time and knowledge, man.
True enough man but i got my hands on a gsr motor for dirt cheap....is it possibly to go over the necessary minimum machine/head work and what setup will give you 200whp without spending a ton...thanks
So would locking vtec on a k24a2 be the same as locking it on a base model performance wise? And can you buy the locking pins if you don’t want to track down and grind rockers?
An Internal combustion engine AkA and ice. Is a glorified air pump. Putting bigger lobes on the cam makes more power. That simple! So to sit there and say the locking Vtec. On anything other than a k series wont make power is silly. Bigger lobes equals more air in and out. With the right air fuel ratios you will make more power. And obviously adding a turbo would be ideal. The spool times should be reduced. Do to the better air flow through the engine.
It's not adding bigger lobes. Its locking onto the bigger lobes that are already there. The only time your adding bigger cams with the lock is when your doin it for a base model to run the bigger cam. Way to many videos goin over this already. Can't help if this is the first one you're watchin

Texas Honda Channel Moore Motorsports has a video on how to do it, it's pretty cool

I suppose another benefit is to spool turbos quicker, thats why im doin it on my A2

Do you have a UA-cam channel
@ericslimp2726 I have one but I haven't posted any videos in a long time. The Zip tie technician was my channel.
@@jonnyfortin right on I'll check it out
@ericslimp2726 sounds good man! I was building my b series when I was making those videos

Can i use a a3 crank with a2 pistons and rods or waste of time ?

Thanks for the gems!
Is the s type cames consider base vtec cams?
@JCnordic2983 the si is base the type s is real vtec
Im doing it only for the sound
