  • Hey guys! Alot of you asked me to make this video, so I bumped it up in the schedule. A battle of mid priced modelers! In this video I shot out the 5150, Soldano, Mesa Mark series ( 3 and 4 respectively) and the Fender Twin Reverb models.. I still have so much content to make with both the Mooer GE250 and the Hotone Ampero, but I know you all are curious how these mid tier modelers stack up against each other! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, and also let me know what you want to see from each of these units!

    In mix with built in cab emulation: 2:00
    In mix with 3rd party IR: 5:43

    Ampero wins in the amp modeling sounds. Mooer still sounds stiff/lifeless. I now own an Ampero and the GE300 and after many many hours spent on both units I must say that even with the new GE300 update and amp match and GNR files, the Ampero wins by a mile regarding amp sound and overall feel. I hope that Hotone eventually puts out a "full sized version" of the Ampero with 8 footswitches very much like the GE300. Great video as always Taylor, I appreciate the work you put in. Have a great week!

    Both units sound excellent, but the Mooer GE250 have that "je-ne-sais-quoi" that I can't describe...more depth. I would choose the GE250 also because of the capture feature. As always your hard work is appreciated. Keep on Rocking!

    I've already decided that when I buy a floor processor it will be the Mooer. It is basically a $400ish Kemper loaded with all the effects I'll ever need. But the Ampero is really good too. It is definitely an exciting time to be a guitarist with all the kickass tech coming out for cheap prices.

      @@StringBard Keep in mind that the Kemper is actually several years old now. The thing about technology is it is constantly getting cheaper and more powerful. The Kemper came out ridiculously expensive and stayed expensive because that was brand new tech, but when you discover something amazing eventually your competitors will figure out their own twist on it. So all that being said, the GE250 might not be as far behind the Kemper as you think.

    Thanks for another great comparison. It is another win for the Ampero in my opinion. But I love some features of the GE250 (effect loop, tone capture, parameter blend control with the expression pedal). I guess that after Ampero one (great value!) we will see a larger Ampero with more footswitches and effect loop, and scenes (multiple parameter sets per preset, like HX). This would be awesome. And hopefully better pitch shifting effects too.

    The Ampero just takes your damn head off, it's fantastic! Anybody who has a concern about the harshness, it's very easy to remove with an EQ and keep the intensity, I just find it really hard to add that intensity back with the GE250/GE200.

      This is what I concluded with too, Ampero felt a bit more saturated and clear in the top end. The GE250 felt a bit scooped and didn't punch thru in the mix, felt like the IR was placed inside a cardboard box.
      I think the Ampero is going to be easier to leave in a mix, and mix in well. with the clarity of the tone you can lower the volume and still have a good place in the mix.

    I owned both. There was a fizz on the top end for most of the high gain Ampero presets that required attention to dial out whereas the GE's high gain tones often needed a bit more presence than what was modeled. It seemed with the exception of its Mesa models, all the others had that Bogner/Legacy smoothness to 'em that many will find pleasing (as did I) but not on every high gain offering minus the Boogies. It was just too frequent. In the end, after a month with both, the always expected digital "DNA" landed on my doorstep and my ears began to not enjoy the tones I was getting from either. For me, this is all too common with these budget Borg boxes. They sound great for the first month but eventually, that digital lifelessness gets me every time. I sold 'em both and went with the new Tech 21 PSA 2.0 floor unit which exceeds both the Ampero and GE when it comes to high gain tones. An all analog unit (only the save locations are digital) but of course, no bells and whistles, just killer tones so needed effects come from some still righteous Rocktron gear. 'Been playing since 1978 and have pretty much owned or tried 'em all. These multi-effects units have come a long way since Zoom's 9002, L6's Bean and Johnson's J Station (let's not forget ART's X-treme or ECC) but if it's under $1K, I still prefer units that offer analog distortion as opposed to digital. Nonetheless, these two newbs have their place and for a great many, both of them will keep you smiling for quite awhile. There's never been a better time for guitar players, technology-wise. Whatever you decide, enjoy and Taylor, this was a killer presentation. Well done.

    I would lean towards Ampero cause for me it clearly sounds better in your comparison, but there is one small feature I really want that Ampero doesn't have, and that is the ability to change effects for recording next loop in looper. I believe this require effects loop, which Ampero lacks. I know it may sound silly, but the way I'd like to practice this is a game changer for me.

    The stock IRs are just so different, it's hard to even say which one I prefer. I don't even know how this happens, how do you consistently make all your ir captures a lot darker/brighter given the cab, mic and mic position is being controlled by the player, not you.

Deftones' sound sober clean and elegant and it's what I'm looking for, am i right or am i deaf ? To me the ampero seems more noisy and loose and death metal like (sorry for my english), or is it just EQ and customization

    A lot of times in these shootouts they all sound pretty much the same to me but this time it was like night and day difference. With the distorted tones the Ampero had more high end and the Mooer had more low end. On the clean tones the opposite. I think I would rather have more high end if playing live. I seen too many shows at the local clubs where you'll see a guitarist riffing like a motherfucker but you can't hear a damn thing he's playing because the bass and drums take all that low end............
    I'll add one more thing. You got that Ampero tone to sound as good or better than in any of the other videos of yours I recall watching. And you've gotten some good tones out of it........

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  4 роки тому

      Thanks! I'm learning with the stock cabs on the ampero you need to set the mic by ear, not visually. That visual cab thing in the app is garbage lol. Also, I know it always has more high end than I think, so I've been setting it lower than I think I need to.
