Hi Glyn, when I calibrated my BenQ monitor and programmed my controller keys, the brightness of the monitor did not change to the calibrated values but they remained at what I had manually set for brightness within the monitor settings itself which is a number between 0 and 100. Thank you for this video and all the information provided. It came out as I was upgrading my editing station and I needed this information. One question though: do you use this profile for all the pictures you edit or only for the ones that you print? Do you create another profile to edit pictures that are meant to be viewed digitally?
Hi There. Most of the time I tend to edit in a calibration that is D65 , 2.2 and Absolute Zero BUT when I know an image will be printed OR before I do a print I either use D50 from the start or jump to it before printing to see how it looks and if I need to tweak a ‘copy’ behind printing. Does that make sense ?
Just bought a BenQ monitor and tried to run this calibration tool only to find that my monitor was not listed for use of it. Couldn't use the Elements software either!
Very interesting Glyn, there`s just one thing I don`t understand: in the passage where you talk about calibration 1 and calibration 2, for me it`s a bit confusing. In fact I ask if you use the same calibration for the retouching job and the same for the printing job, but it seems not. And this is where my confusion comes from...can you help? Thank you so much, friend.
Davide ... Most times I edit in the Calibration 1 BUT before I print an image I will look at it in Calibration 2 and make any adjustments if necessary. Hope this helps.
@@glyndewis Thank`s, I may not know the differences in recommended settings on Cal.1 and Cal.2 Because the one you show on the video is more suitable for printing, it seems to me.
The BenQ Displays are hardware calibrated so they are able to store different calibration settings within the display itself. They provide a hot key puk that you saw in the video that you can assign different functions ... I have 1 and 2 assigned ... button 1 sets the calibration / display to D65 and Absolute Black for Day to Day and button 2 switches the calibration to D50 and 0.5 Candela for the Black Point. It's just a matter of pressing a button.
@@glyndewis What about system colors? Don't you also have to switch the .icc profiles? During the hw calibration, icc profile is created and applied automatically on system level (Windows). Please cover this part a little bit in some future videos :) update: Art described this very topic in his another fantastic video here: ua-cam.com/video/Cgo2p7jF3n0/v-deo.html
Hello Glyn. Thanks fof the video and your advice. I just wanted to confirm that you are able to save your calibrated profile to one of the calibration slots on the puck. I think you mentioned Calibration 2, corresponding with button no. 2 on the control puck. Can you confirm in System Setting, in Display panel that the color profile was activated to the one you wanted when pressing button 2 on the puck? I have the same monitor, SW321C, on latest OS, with an Mac Mini M1, and it is not switching between the color profiles that I had it set to. Visually, on the monitor, a change is noted, but when I open the system setting within the OS, it is still one prior color profile. Tech support from BenQ is telling me that I cannot save any calibration profiles to any of the 1-3 buttons on the control puck! This explanation goes against everything that I read about the monitor and seen from others on the net. I am thinking that there is a glitch with the Palette ME or hardware of the monitor. Prob. monitor hardware is not saving the profile to the desired buttons on the puck, that i want.
Hi There. You definitely can set up the hot key puk to switch profiles you create. Drop me an email through my website and I'll help you out with this 👍🏻
Hello Glyn. Just confirming wether you had the chance to look at the inside settings within the Display panel of the OS too see if really the PME software is changing color calibrated profiles, or just between color modes. @@glyndewis
In my case the profile is not changed when you press the button 1, 2 or 3 on the puck. It changes between the different calibration slot, but in the system settings the profile remains the same. I disucssed with several people and they say the same. Have you got any solution to this issue?
@@planetinthelens Yes, I was able to assign three different color profiles to the three buttons on the puck, because that’s what I wanted for my situation. It does work, but one needs to follow the correct procedure to change the correct settings within the display menu. Also, I had to uninstall some other iStudio calibration software that was on my Mac because it might have interfered with the one from BenQ. Also, I reseted my display to factory, disconnected all cables to the Mac, and reconnected them. So, after all that I went into the display menu and changed the settings that are responsible for assigning the different color profiles to the buttons on the puck. In the Mac system preferences for the monitor, the profiles are selected correctly. Make sure the Pallet Master Ultimate app stays active all the time, so the puck can change your profiles. I have the SW321C display with the puck.
Unless I missed it I think you should make it clear that the software you used is only compatible with a limited number of high end Benq monitors. I have a mid range Benq monitor and wasted my time downloading and installing the software only to find my monitor is not compatible.

Ever since I installed PaletMasterUltimate( Ver 1.1.0) and calibrated the displays PaletMasterUltimate always has a splash screen when ever I reboot my 16inch MPB M3max. Is that supposed to happens, its like its alway on even though theres no display connected. The previous version of Palette Master never did that.
I just calibrated both of my SW 27 displays (4K and 2K) with my M3max. I also have a M2max as a back up computer, both have the same Mac OS Sonoma 14.1.2
If I have to recailbrate the displays again with the same Mac OS setting disabled it going top be a pain. Where are the ICC profiles stored in the user of the M3 max, so I can bring them over to the M2Max. Is that possible? Thank you
Hi Glyn, when I calibrated my BenQ monitor and programmed my controller keys, the brightness of the monitor did not change to the calibrated values but they remained at what I had manually set for brightness within the monitor settings itself which is a number between 0 and 100. Do you know why this is the case and how to fix it?
Hi There ... Did you assign the keys to each calibration in the Hot Key Puk too?
Awesome!!!
Glyn, when u recommend using USB-c cable, is it usb-c port to usb-c port. I am asking cause for some reason my mac laptop can not connect with Benq monitor?
Also, I know i keep asking BUT when is the printing course coming out:)?
Hi Stefan ... Yeah for USB-C it connects to the display from USB-C on the computer to USB-C built into the display. Re the printing course ... I have now set a deadline to have everythijgn completed and I mean everything including all the new updates, by end of July. Then a couple of weeks to finishe edit in August will mean it WILL be released. It's been a long slog to get it all done along with updates so thank you for asking.
@@glyndewis Great! Thank you so much!
Just bought a BenQ monitor and tried to run this calibration tool only to find that my monitor was not listed for use of it. Couldn't use the Elements software either!
Could do the same thing with spyder please 🙏
The settings would be the same 👍🏻
Dear Ben Q: The graphics industry uses RGB for digital images, whereas the print industry uses CNYK. How does this affect color calibration??
Very interesting Glyn, there`s just one thing I don`t understand: in the passage where you talk about calibration 1 and calibration 2, for me it`s a bit confusing. In fact I ask if you use the same calibration for the retouching job and the same for the printing job, but it seems not. And this is where my confusion comes from...can you help?
Thank you so much, friend.
Davide ... Most times I edit in the Calibration 1 BUT before I print an image I will look at it in Calibration 2 and make any adjustments if necessary. Hope this helps.
@@glyndewis Thank`s, I may not know the differences in recommended settings on Cal.1 and Cal.2
Because the one you show on the video is more suitable for printing, it seems to me.
Glyn you say your have two calibrations, how do you switch between the two on the monitor?
@@radimvybiral105 I believe PMU automatically switches the ICC profiles in both Windows an Mac OS to match the hardware selected calibration setting
Drop me an email through my website and I'll help you out with this 👍🏻
@@glyndewis Thanks for the reply. I forwarded an email to you. Thank you, again!
Nice review, really handsome and awsome body!
Unless I missed it I think you should make it clear that the software you used is only compatible with a limited number of high end Benq monitors. I have a mid range Benq monitor and wasted my time downloading and installing the software only to find my monitor is not compatible.
CALIBA
Huh?
@@glyndewis just a typo in the video preview ;-)
what if 60cd is too dark for me? can you do a calibration on higher numbers like 350 or even 450?
That would be incredibly bright
There is a new update as of today 4 5 2024
Yeah the video has also been updated with a new one since this 😉
Sw272U hmmm...
