Trust me, you're going to love your 5 year techo. I got mine in 2020, as it was supposed to be a memorable year (and it was, just not for the reason I thought). I absolutely love it. And it's more fun the second year because you can now begin to look back. The hardest thing for me is to shorten my day's entry to make it fit. But then again, that's what my regular journal is for. I do find myself getting lost in past journal entries when I start reading them. Next year is going to be my 5th year in the journal, and it's especially important because in 2024 i turn 50! What a cool way to document the half century mark!
I so love the *idea* of seeing five years together in my 5-year techo, but I'm having a heck of a time with it, because it feels so redundant to pull something from my regular yearly techo (in which I write every day without fail) to enter in to the 5-year. I've tried for several years, but I just don't think it's going to work for me. I hope you have success with it! Will continue to follow.
Agree - my attempt here was over truly before it ever really began lol. I love the idea too - but as I was completing it, I just was not feeling it. Maybe I can use it in another way - time will tell!
I have a 2021-2025 5-year Hobo in A6. I tried using it but I couldn't figure out what to do with it that would be different from my regular Hobonichi (also A6) and my journal (A5 lined notebook). I tried different things: word of the day, German word of the day, most important thing that happened each day, etc. but nothing felt compelling enough to make me want to write in the book every day. I've been holding onto it just because it would feel terrible to recycle it or toss it. I've thought about re-dating it and trying again, but I still don't know what I'd use it for. :::sigh:::
Thanks so much for sharing and I have to say, I am struggling too! I started filling in a line of gratitude for 2022 and 2023 in the Hobo 5-year by referencing the daily pages from my Cousins. I got about 12 days in and thought, as of right now I have no plan to get rid of my previous Cousins because they hold so much and have 5 years of gratitude statements in one spot isn't resonating with me either. SO - like you, I'm at a place where I really like it, but am not sure what to do with it. Joining you in the sigh. :) LOL
Starting my first A6 one in January. Commitment pressure is real but I CAN do this! Will you get a cover for it and what pens do you think you will use?
It's so real! I've started completing 22' and 23' - definitely feeling the overwhelm lol No cover, not sure I will get one as I kind of like it plain. So far using the Brown/Grey Sarasa Vintage for a pen :)
Hmm, great question - looking at it now, they don't feel sharp. The cover sort of reminds me a bit of a bible cover, firm, but flexible. Stronger than a paperback book, but not as hard as a hardcover book if that makes sense.

LOVE this - thank you for encouragement and CONGRATS on almost completing yours AND Happy EARLY birthday!!!
I’ve ordered mine this year 😊 I’ve decided to stop writing in my regular moleskine journal and just use this one instead. We’ll see how I go with it 😅
Great idea and good luck!!!
I love the idea of the 5 year Techo. I worry I would end up not using it, but I'm bound to get one some time in the future to try it out all the same
Love the idea too - fell flat for me though...maybe not the right time.

Damn that cover looks lush. Are the edges sharp as on most Hobo. overs? I like them but the edges are just too sharp.
