One thing to note is mdl has multiple presets that sound vastly different. Idk about the other one. I’ve been extremely happy with mdl drums. Also one thing to note is mdl is EXTREMELY easy to work with. You program what you want, crank to 127 (because they’re made to be put at 127) and then you can leave them or tweak from there. By far the easiest drums I’ve used.
Yeah the MDL is customizable vs the Trivium drums where it's basically a one kit wonder. I'm actually using the Trivium drums mostly for the cymbals because they sound amazing and I'm layering MDL shells over top. So I can still customize shells and have a solid foundation underneath. I think the cymbals in Trivium have a more natural sound and I like the contrast of that in combination with the MDL shells being a more processed sound.
That's kind of where I'm at. The kick and snare sound great too. I think I like the toms on MDL a bit more but you can always route them out and tweak things. Or hell just layer them.
