Hocus Pocus for the win!

1:40 Doom 2
2:09 SkyRoads
2:40 Disney's The Lion King
3:17 Theme Hospital
3:54 The Incredible Machine 2
4:20 Big Red Racing

7:08 Jazz Jackrabbit
7:45 Wolfenstein 3D
8:18 Warcraft 2 Tides of Darkness
8:53 Battle Chess
9:27 Quake
Forgot 6:33 Hocus Pocus
Totally forgot about Battle Chess lol awesome game back in the day. Wonder how it still holds up today.
@@hYBRYDcOBRAif you like battle chess, there is also star wars chess which is animated like battle chess.
@@willmuny9201 theres gotta be a way to speed it up in DosBOX. I had an issue with running Elder Scrolls Arena on my modern PC and once I adjusted the acceleration configuration I was able to play it at a more stable framerate.
What about Lemmings ?
Loved pretty much all of bullfrog’s dos catalogue. Magic carpet, populous, syndicate. Great memories!
Absolutely, they were the best man - thanks for watching this one! John 👍
This video made me emotional. Brings back so so so many memories. Things were so simple back then. Lots of improvement in UI has happened since then. I remember playing wolf at my cousin's house. That was the first game I ever played. Those golden days will never come back and we won't be the same people again! 😭
Hey man, thanks for watching and for sharing those memories ... will always love revisiting these classics!! John 👍
yeah, that was around 30 years ago. I was a teenager at that time, so those are probably the best carefree years we will have.
With wolf, I remember my nephew got a new computer with a sound card and hearing the sound card for the first time, even though I had the game with no sound card.
Some extras to add to your list: XCOM: UFO Defense (or UFO: Enemy Unknown) and Sid Meier's Colonization.
ufo is so damn good
XCOM totally rocked!
@Will Muny warlords2 too
Colonization was one of my favourite games of all time tbh
Today kids wouldn't understand these ._.
Shut up I’m 16 and this looks sick
Man... The Lion King, Aladdin, Hercules, Duke Nukem, Quake, Jazz Jackrabbit, Cyrill the Cyberpunk, Tomb Raider...
Good times 😎
Big Red Racing cost a friendship in my childhood. I had a friend visiting and the split screen racing was so intense, that his joystic broke suddenly in half. We never met again after that day.
Hey Joona, thanks for watching and hey ... I think many of us share similar stories playing some of these games! John 😅👍🎮
The Secret of Monkey Island. To this day my favorite game. I played a few on your list. However I guess these lists are most your own sentimental value of what you used to play. Thanks for sharing. It was a good list.
I would add C&C, Gabriel Knight, Fallout, Death Gate, Jagged Alliance..
Thank you so much for watching - those were great games ... I actually did a follow up video where I touched on a few extra games such as The Secret of Monkey Island, C&C, Lemming's, MDK and so forth - this was such a cool time in gaming! ✌
My DOS games those days were *IBM's Alley Cat, Doom 2, Mortal Kombat, Disney's Aladdin* , and *Prehistoric II*
Great picks - dude, I mean Mortal Kombat (what a game) ~ jammed that on my Sega, same with Aladdin // good times!! John 💖👍🎮😉
Unreal, Blood, Aladdin, the entire Commander Keen series and the original Duke Nukem side scrollers. So many great games I grew up with.
Hey Dawn - awesome, yes those were great games ... esspecially Unreal and Aladdin (which I played on the Sega Mega Drive), yep I've tried Duke 1 & 2 (the side scrollers) wasn't a big fan ae - but yep ... when Duke 3d dropped we all got into that one heavily!! 💥👍🧡 John
@@CyberComGaming try blood
Unreal wasn't a DOS game, right?
@@phentas You may be right there. honestly it all blurs together for me. So many great games came out in the 90s and I was a late adoptor of Windows 95. I held on to DOS 6 & Windows 3 for as long as possibe.
@@DawnChatman After all it was like 30years ago, and it was such a rapid escalation from Wolf 3D to Quake 3 (7 short years). No wonder it blurs together
I still play Super Mario Bros 3 even though it's not a DOS game. It is still fun to play occasionally even to this day. 😁
Thanks for the visit man and yes SMB3 is def still a fun game to play! 👍
Nice list! Really takes me back to a fun time in my life. I forgot about some of these. Subscribed!
Hey Alex - thank you so much for the support - glad you related to this one ... had a lot of fun playing these games / it's funny how it takes you back to those simpler times! John 👍
Worms, Tyrian and SimCity 2000 also come to mind as DOS classics.
So true, this was a hard list but man ... Worms & SimCity 2000 💖 - - > might have to release an update to this list // (good mentions) John 👍😉
We seem to have played the same games! Even though I live in Egypt...
The first 3 games below I played with my cousins whenever I visited!!!
Wacky Wheels, Monopoly deluxe, Mortal Kombat 3,
Terminal Velocity, Amok, Who Shot Johnny Rock, 3D lemmings, cannon fodder 2, Need for speed, Airball, Bubble Bobble, BUST-A-MOVE 2, Starwars (1983) also dark forces
Haha - that's cool man, look - even the ones you've listed here I can tell we've got a similar taste in games // ~ 3d Lemmings was 🔥 / also MK 3!! 👍👍💎🎮 John
Prince of Persia, Hocus Pocus and Wolfenstein 3D :') ... Those represent my childhood and hours of competing against my sister
Some old games that came to my mind when watching this: Hexen, Wacky Wheels, Psycho Pinball, Raptor: Call of the Shadow.
Big Red Racing was outstanding!!! I remember I used to ignore the track trying to do air tricks on those hills !!!
Hahaha same here man ... that game was so much fun!! 🚗👍🎮 John
my memories: Lemmings, Pushover, Putt Putt, Pango, Digger, Pipe mania, Sokoban etc. I love MAME games
Dude, that was literally my half childhood. Some of these i had already forgotten about 😰. Great Video ✌🏼
Thanks man - glad you enjoyed this one! 😃👍 John
I love Big Red, the best part was running over the line of hidden sheep hearing the noise it made, Duke 3D was a game I used to play after work at work against my work bud, also hexen and heretic.
Thanks for watching Ray - haha I remember Hexen, great game also it's sequel Hexen 2!! John 👍🎮
Dude those sheep were such a great destresser after school.
I really loved Archon.
I really wish someone would make it for modern computers. It was incredible.
Excellent editing - really nice!
Cheers for the feedback and for checking it out! John 😅👍
Oh man these bring back memories. Completely forgot about Big Red. I remember my high school ran Novel networking, which had to have a writeable folder accessible on the server. The admin hid it down about 10 folders down in different places, but we always found it and uploaded Duke3d. So much nostalgia.
Another amazing video I hope that your channel blows up as you deserve it! (I am surprised that it hasn't already) I didnt even know about some of these games (not surprisingly I am only 16 so I wasnt even alive when these games first came out) such as SkyRoads and Hocus Pocus but thank you for making a video on them and I hope that I can play some of them eventually as you made them look fun to play hope to see another video from you soon!
Thank you for checking this one out as well - really glad you enjoyed it, you should definitely give them a go sometime .. have a great Xmas and cheers again for supporting! John 🎮👍🎅
Quake was immense. The fact that Nine Inch Nails did the music too was great as they were one of my favourite bands at the time. Such atmospheric music from NIN and the perfect FPS in the day
Fantasic list, brings back childhood nostalgic memories. One I played a lot was Starcontrol 2. Amazing space exploration RPG/Action game. Apogee, iD and Epic made such great games back then. Commander Keen, Monster Bash, Cosmos Cosmic Adventure. DOS was such a great platform for gaming. As long as you got your sound card configured right haha
Thanks for watching this one - glad you enjoyed it / agreed they had so many amazing games back then ... I ended up doing a part 2, but yep (love this era of gaming so much) John 👍
SimCity, SimFarm, King's Quest, Red Baron. Ah, but I also played Doom, Wolfenstein, Xcom, and some others I don't even remember. And I wasn't a kid back then. lol
Definitely play Warcraft 2 in 2021. It's so good.
I know right?? ... what a classic even after all these years! Cheers for watching man! John 👍😎
What about Raise of the triad? You've missed a big one there
Fun fact, supposedly, rise of the triad was originally going to be Wolfenstein: Rise of the Triad, or Wolfenstein 3.
I think I've played all of them back in the day. Good list
I skipped a lot of college classes playing Quake, Diablo and Doom over a 10baseT network using ipx/spx protocols. Good times.
I ran many Novell networking systems back in the late 80's to late 90's. You really haven't lived until you "gen" fifty 5.25" floppy disks before you can even install 2.xx on a server! Those were truly the good ol' days.
Funny Duke Nukem story: inside the game install directory, there's a text file you can edit to change the strength of the weapons. I increased the RPG to some insane number and loaded up the game. I obtained the RPG and just fired it once. As i walked through the level, every enemy was already killed by the massive blast radius of that single shot 😅
You nailed this!
Thanks for watching & for the feedback! 🙏
I wasn’t afraid of Y2K and I was a Kid back then
Great vid! One of the best experiences of DOS games I miss is their big box packaging. Used to spend all my time in the mall at Babbages peering over the boxes, and most games had amazing manuals and lots of goody extras. Being a kid back then there were quite a lot that I wish I had but couldn't get at the time, now thanks to sites like GOG, I've picked up quite the collection!
Tx for watching and for the feedback - couldn't agree more ... I'm getting back to collecting those big boxed PC games (I'm so regretful giving a number of them away when we moved over to NZ ... but slowly getting the collection back up! 👍
Aw man... To narrow it down to just 15 feels like a travesty of justice. Just soooo many amazing games from dos era across so many genres.
Who played Stellar 7?
And what about Descent, California Games, the Sierra catelogue of 'Quest games'.... Hunter Hunted... list just goes on and on and on of sweet, sweet memories.
Thanks for watching man - yep, totally ... too many great games to just list down 15 but to me, these were some of the DOS games that stood out. John 👍🎮
@@CyberComGaming There were so many games back then vs now, a person could make a list 100 dos games that 'stood out' and one would still be scratching the surface of what all was out there back then. What an era of gaming.
Been showing my kids my childhood as it were wrt this. And even my 19yrold's mind has been utterly blown to the point he's gotten a passion and wants to bring that sort of gaming back, make them himself.
Remember Black Thorn? They were awestruck haha. I play co-op Doom 2 with my 5yrold. Absolute loves it, and he's over lvl 50 in Borderlands 2, he's choosing the older game instead which is certainly more difficult.
Nice compilation man! Would definitely pick something out of it to play through.
Thanks for watching!
Stunts was a good car racing game where you could build your own track and swap them with other users to try out.
My family got our first computer in 1996. I remember everything you said there!
Was such a cool time growing up!
I personally think Ultima Underworld should have made this list...
Guy says "favorite" and yet there's invariably someone in the comments saying something else wasn't included... 🧐
@@arvindhmani06 "I personally think" which was me stating MY subjective preference.
I agree so very much!
I don't trust these DOS game lists anymore.
they are probably made by humans that weren't even alive when the games were current.
Ultima Underworld is one of the very best.
For me the best games were
1: Eye of the Beholder 2
2: Lands of lore 1
3: Realms of the Haunting
4: Supaplex
5: Starquake
6: Commander Keen

9: Sonic the Hedgehog
10: Digger
11: Zaxxon
12: Shamus
13: Saboteur 2

Great games indeed - I'm keen to work on another similar video (and perhaps have a bit of a look at those late 90's early 00's PC games), I really liked Sim City 2000 and 3000 and yep ... Alone in the Dark was another great one! 👍 John
Warcraft 2 Battlenet Edition takes the cake for me man. Also, I'm surprised I didn't see command and conquer in here. Or Lands or Lore the Throne of Chaos!
Solid choices man!
Thanks man - glad you enjoyed this one! John 🙏👍🎮
I played a lot of these as a kid! Grew up with Windows 3.1 until Windows 98 came out! In my thirties now and still miss those classics!
Thanks for watching man - same here ... grew up on these, fun times!!! John 👍
Very good list, took me back to a better time..
Glad you enjoyed it
I forgot about Jazz Jackrabbit! Both of those games were super fun!
WOW! so much nostalgia!
I played almost all of these games!
I would also add Commander Keen and C&C!
edit: Fury 3!!!
Thank you so much for watching - yes those were great games indeed ... got them added in vol 2 :) John
Hocus Pocus is so good! I love that game! I still play it today with my kid!
Love it 👍 ... it's still got so much charm! 💖 John
This channel has some really cool content!
Thank you for checking this one out Dark Steel, glad you liked it! 🎮👍😎
Jet Pack
Spectre
Jet Fighter II
MegaRace
MicroMan
Some fun DOS titles I played as a lad.
Oh man this was me in South Africa in the late 90’s. Me and my friends had stacks of floppy disks to copy games lol
So many great games! We need MS dos game collection for consoles! As good as the Incredible machines was, The Incredible Toon Machines was my favorite! It had such awesome animations! Also Dune 2 was friggin' awesome! Streed Rod 1 and 2. Oh just too many games to mention here.
The games are highly repayable ... yes, totally agree a dos collection would be great / hidden gems like these and many more - Dune 2 was awesome 👍, totally forgot to mention that classic but to your point there are just too many to mention!! John 😵💎💎💎
Aweh, a bunch of memories
Indeed - thanks for watching man! 😉👍
Never got to play Theme hospital, great video!
Thanks for checking this list out & oh yes, you definitely should give it a go!! John 👍✌😎
Or even play the modern remake 2 point hospital
Thanks brother i relived my youth again
No worries man - glad you liked it, have a good one! John 🙏
I used to play hocus pocus as a kid and I had completely forgotten. Thank you!
No worries man, glad you enjoyed this one :)
When you do skyroads and doom back to back, one knows this guys does not fuck around
With no particular order, my favorite 20 Dos games would be:
Prince of Persia 1 & 2
Prehistorik 2
Indiana Jones
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Fun trucks
Fifa 95
Doom 2
Duke Nukem 3d
Wolfenstein 3D
Grand Theft Auto
Little Big Adventure
Worms
The Secret of Monkey Island
Quake
Tomb Raider
The Lion king
Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars
Aladin
Alone in The Dark
Great choices! :)
Thanks for watching, glad you liked it! ✌️
Quakes is so badass. I made a bunch of maps for it years ago using Quark. Super fun.
I used to play some of these too! I also really enjoyed Garfield Caught in the Act, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure and one of the Commander Keen games, but I don't remember which. Later in life I found and fell in love with the Monkey Island franchise, as well.
Thanks man - appreciate you checking this one out ... some good games there, man same here I just didn't play much of Monkey Island growing up, I loved 'Escape from Monkey Island' and played that game on my Win 98 PC back in the day! John 👍🎮
I think my first games on PC were Pinball Dreams Deluxe.. Cyberia.. Duke Nukem 3d and Hexen .. I do remember my first windows game.. Age of Empires 1.. Wololo!
Hahaha 'wololo' you had me there 😂 ... so many great games man, YES!! Hexen and Hexen 2 / but Duke 3D was just straight 🔥 John 👍😊
Big red racing was fun 2 player. Enjoyed going out of bounds and finding little easter eggs
Hahaha same ... good times!! 💖👍 John
my favorite DOS games probably from KOEI ...and C&C series..
The good ol days of DOS. I remember spending hours trying to get EF200 to run well. Theme Hospital was awesome !
Haha totally ... spent many hours playing Theme Hopsital, thank you for watching this one!! John 😉🎮👍
I'm not 100% on this but Elite and Elite II: Frontier, were Dos games. I certainly need a Dos simulator in order to play Frontier now. But yeah, Frontier, just magnificent. Inherit a space ship off your dead uncle, plus a handful of credits, and go be whatever you want! Trader, smuggler, assassin, you could work for the police, or the Sirius Corporation, or the Imperials, or you could just be a pirate if you wanted, or a miner! Hahaha. And a more or less infinite galaxy to explore if you so wished.
"Ahhh! A gas giant! Unload the mining equipment and prepare the scoop for fuel gathering!"
I spent SO long playing that.
Hey Ryan - thanks for checking this one out, I haven't check out Frontier ... but making some notes on some of the titles & feedback - man, these lists are so subjective and will look different for many of us (there were so many amazing DOS games) John 👍🎮
@@CyberComGaming Oh absolutely, everyone has their preferences. Some like it fast and furious, blazing ground battles or sports titles (Sensible Soccer! haha) strategy games like Lemmings or Civilization. But for me, Frontier: Elite II... Large-scale space adventure roleplay with the right balance of chilling out time and battles, loads of ships you can upgrade to, weapons, gadgets, a game well worth checking out AND IF YOU DO, watch the intro because it's perfect (if, yes, a little dated of course!)
Whatever you play, enjoy! Cheers, John.
Prince of Persia was great. We played it at work when the boss wasn't looking who was me ! Got to have time out when everyone works so hard. My motto was "Do as I say and do as I do" lol. I said to my staff one Monday morning "Does anyone want this coming Friday off work, but you still have to be here? I got Unreal Tournament". Can you guess the answer ? Once a month we played UT on a Friday afternoon. Those were the days, I am retired now so play online with people from all over the world. I love it and this video too. Reminiscing, thank you !
One thing that just popped into my head.... Playing Wolfenstein The New Order if you take a nap on a particular bed in the game you can play the original game as you dream away. Brilliant. I also loved Lemmings back in the day, was that a DOS or Windows 3.1 game ? I can't remember.
That sounded like a great place to work for - or rather you were just a cool boss ... thanks for watching and for sharing those memories! ✌️ John
LOVED The Incredible Machine 2!!!
I know right??? ... it's just one of those forgotten 💎's, had a lot of fun with it! 👍😎 John
I remember and love most of these games.
Thanks for watching - glad you enjoyed this one! John 👍
One of the most frustrating tasks I ever had was trying to get Wing Commander II to work on an old comp. This was circa 2000 or so after I moved out on my own. Worked hard to get all the IRQ's and DMA's set right on the Soundblaster card and everything else set up. Finally got it one day and played for hours... So worth it.
I haven't played much of that one sadly - made a follow up video were I talked about a few more DOS games ... but, yep thanks for watching this one man! ✌️
You did point so many good games like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Warcraft 2 and more. MS-DOS owned in the day and if you mess up on configuring the commands it was your fault. There was also the CD games on DOS made it great like Lands of Lore, the Ravenloft games, the DarkSun Games, Warcraft 1 and more. Thank you for this Excellent look back at it.
Cheers for the comment Fenton, so true man ... I ran a couple over on DOSBox, was so cool to revisit some of them / Lands of Lore 👍, you know your stuff 😎 - these are the type of games that got me into gaming ¬ have a good one man! ✌🎮💻 John
I played Battle chess when i was 5 or 6yo on a win 3.1!!! It was my first game and i thought it was pretty gore. Damn time goes away in a blink. Ty for the memories mate.
Thanks for watching Henrik - time flies ... but yep - good times playing some of these games! 💖👍🎮 John
I played most of those games as a kid. One of my favorites was Zool.
Good choices. You reminded me about Skyroads. Haven't played that in probably 25 years!
Thanks for watching man - yep, it's a lot fun / also Skyroads X-mas Special! 👍🎮 John
Been looking all my life for big red racing, only have very few memories of the big ass car models in the car selection screen. Thanks haha
Hey man, cheers for checking this one out - yea have many great memories playing Big Red Racing back on Win 95' haha / dude how good was that soundtrack though?? 🎮👍
2:13 Skyroads!!!! Yes!!! Loved this game
Hey, cool choices but for me, there are The day of the tentacle (best game ever made), the Alone in the dark series and Lemmings plus so many more !!!
Thanks for stopping by - Alone in the Dark was also supposed to be included ... might need to revisit this list sometime! 👍🎮 John
Loved the video!
Grew up with a 486 with 4mb of ram.
Jazz Jackrabbit Hocus Pocus and Skyroads are three of my all time fav DOS games and not many ppl even know they exist to this day. Great selection of FPS did u ever play Rise of the Triad, Heretic, Hexen or Shadow Warrior?
Thanks Brandon - much appreciated man, glad we on the same page there // ... and no man not much of them ae ~ but yep I've actively played and loved Hexen 2 tho!! 👍🎮 John
One game thats missing on that list is Heroes of Might and Magic. A turn based strategy game with role playing game elements that is one of the most sold games on GoG.
Carmageddon, Larry, interstade, die by the sword, blood, alien earth, kknd, dark colony.
Hahaha yep ... Carmageddon and Larry was spot-on, I totally slept on those with this list / will see if we'll need to revisit this one and perhaps do a top 20 greatest list! 👍😅 John
Commanche helicopter game was pretty good too. One issue was that the faster the computer, the faster the gameplay. At some point it wasn't playable due to the speed increase. I remember that the sweet spot was between DX2/66 and DX4/100.
The first Sid Meier's Civilization game was awesome too.
Thanks for watching Peter, man I've not played that one (Commanche helicopter) but yes Civilization was good but played Colonization more ... good times with that one!! 👍👍👍 John
@@CyberComGaming I remember playing Commanche on 386DX40 ... it was barely playable. Do you know Rise of Triad, Heretic, Hexen, Cannon Fodder, Dynablaster? I played Dynablaster on Amiga 2000 and then I found out they made it for PC as well.
It's ok there are solutions for that. On original hardware you could use moslo and on DOSBox you can adjust the speed on the fly and in the configuration files.
WC2 tides of darkness and beyond the dark portal is my favorit game of all time ❤. So many years with that games.
Thanks for watching man, oh yes loved them as well!! John 👍
Great list.
Cheers for the feedback Anon! John 👍
Lords of the Realm 2 by Sierra Games 👍👍👍
Great list, wonderful memories. Doom was the sort of game I wasn't allowed to play, because not long after my dad saw me and my brothers play Wolf 3D we were no longer allowed to play it anymore haha. So platformers were my jam. Dangerous Dave, Biomenace, Duke Nukem. All shareware but they were just great fun to play.
Thank you for watching - haha yep I can imagine for the time those games were way out there ... I still have a number of those shareware CD's ... good times!! John
I got into MS-DOS back in 2017 when I bought NHL 96 and Quake. Fast forward to 2023, I bought more MS-DOS games like The Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II, Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, HeXen: Beyond Heretic, Duke Nukem 3D, Madden NFL 96, Madden NFL 97, and a few others. MS-DOS kicks ass!
Thanks for watching man and those are some great games! 👍
I heard Front Page Sports NFL Pro 95 was good. My friend said there are many plays and you could create more plays from scratch. I think he said there were player updates, you could manually add players or create new players with stats you create. In addition, I remember he said you could play lifetime where if a player was injured at the end of a season, then he might be injured at the start of the next season. I hope you enjoy checking it out.
Mortal Kombat, Panzer General, Dune 2, Age of Empires
Cheers for stopping by - took me back when you mentioned 'Mortal Kombat' - what classic man, jammed that on the Sega! John 😎
I cannot believe my eyes
ONLY 1K SUBS WHAT
YOU DESERVE 1 MILLIONS SUBS
Thanks for checking this one out man - hahaha, yup we wish we were on a mil! 🎮😊👍
Carmageddon was also a great game.
Rise Of The Triad, Descent, and the first Diablo, and Warcraft we're my base games. On PC also spent a lot of time later with rainbow 6, Carmegeddon and Black Thorne
Thanks for watching - hahaha oh yes Carmegeddon was pure 🔥!! 🚗👍 John
awesome video!! found the old game called sky roads I've been looking for lol. had forgotten the name from my childhood.
Glad I could help ... man Skyroads was and still is such a fun game + the Xmas special release version! 👍 John
I just wanted to say: I survived the first 8 seconds of flashing images and my retinas are now recovering.
