JR can you do a video where you show three balls that would be good for house shots and three balls good for sport shots. Or what to look for in a ball when having to choose for sport shot vs. house shot? Sorry if that sounds confusing.

Hey JR, can the make it just a little bit easier? .. at least for me? .. 🤣.. I have a hard enough time on the "House Shot" .. seriously though, this is one area I definitely struggle. I don't understand very well yet how to play even your typical "House Shot" pattern. I have a hard time finding "the spot" and then when the lane changes I am not sure exactly how to play, even if I do find "the spot". Learning .. learning .. and your videos help me a ton! .. thanks JR !!

I threw on a sport shot for the first time this weekend. Not sure of the name, but they guy told me it was 40 ft with something like a 3-1 ratio. Now I understand why the ball skids when you miss to the right (or left in my case since I'm a lefty). Even threw it in the channel twice trying to swing it out. I'm not a high rev player (maybe 350 or so) and a bit speed dominant.
The only shot I found to get me to the pocket was straight up 9 board. If I missed even by 1 board, I was leaving washouts or buckets. Even if I got to the pocket, left a lot of weak 7s unless I got the proper axis rotation. I had 4 balls in the bag, Phaze II, UC3, Reality Check and Polaris Hybrid. Had the best look with the UC3 followed by the Reality Check. The UC3 I have drilled 40x4.5x40, the Reality Check closer to 70 on the first angle.
Overall, very humbling experience. I think the best I shot was 175 or so out of 6 games but I was halfass-ing the spares.

wow ,very informal on different patterns , i use mid perfomance ball on outside between first and second arrows , later on when the oils starts spread around , i switch to more aggressive ball , but still having trouble on the aggressive ball for controlling . Any ideas on how should i control the aggressive ball ? on the video showing , are you using the agggressive or lower performance ball ? Thank you very much for the video.

if you have the TenPin Toolkit on your phone you can laydown angles and targeting on it to give you a good visualization on different patterns

Thanks, that's helpful. Can you talk about reverse oil? Our house shot is 44 with reverse, not sure if that's normal or why its done.

How would the pattern differ on a modified sport shot??

  • @ACommentFromYouTube

The 2 houses i play at are definitely different. One is older real wood and seems very dry, the ball hooks much more. The other place is synthetic lanes and much more oil it seems.
Have you done a video on the different types of lane materials and how they affect the ball? I think the ball bounces a lot more on real wood. The synthetic looks like it absorbs a lot of the ball when it first hits.

Could you possibly start from square 1 for a real beginner trying to learn about the oil?
I've taken a couple of lessons & the instructor walked me down the lane & showed me the oil.
Then he has me throwing the ball between the first & second arrow which is basically dry going to more dry at the end & it hooks, but a very gradual hook. However, I can't seem to count on what side of the head pin it hits on.
It's been explained to me that the oil is like ice & makes it slide & when it hits the friction, it hooks. I'm assuming it's the spin I put on the ball that controls that. So...what is making my ball hook when I'm throwing it from dry to dry? BTW, I bought a Track Paragon ball with a fingertip grip.
I'm also learning the 3 6 9 technique, but my ball isn't hooking enough to pick up the 7 pin, I seem to do a better job throwing it straight from the opposite side than trying to hook it, but I want to learn how to do it!
Thank you so much for making these videos, I really want to understand this. The alley I bowl at has a sport league this summer, but I obviously need to learn a lot more before I could do that. :)

Dying sport? .. then why is it so tough to get a lane? .. all of our bowling alleys are always busy.

    • @fongbrandon
      @fongbrandon Рік тому +2

Bowling as a recreational activity is still doing well. Bowling as as a sport is dying. The majority of league bowlers don't want to challenge themselves. They want the same shot week in week out. So yes bowling as a sport is unfortunately dying.
