I started bowling in June/July. I'm not good and experienced enough to have one yet, but the 4th Street pro shop owner sold me a RG Wild Streak. I decided to buy a Hustle R.A.P. from him for drier lanes. I don't know how to bowl and suck still. I do know Rome wasn't built in a day. Thank you for these influential and altruistic videos Jungo and staff!
When I used 15 lb equipment, I had a lot of success with the Elite Red Alien. Now that I use 14 lb equipment, my current go to ball is the Hy-road X with a 3000 Grit finish. This information is very intriguing. The group of bowlers I roll with seem to use every sort of bowling ball imaginable. So I get to see all of these reactions. Guess I learn something new every day. Cheers!
Van you do an explanation video on how to transition on house shots? What balls and when to change balls? That would make a sick compliment to this vid!
Unpopular opinion: Roto Grip Hyper Cell Fused is my monster on house shots. I barely knocked the shine off with 3000 pads and it blends the wet/dry like a champ. Definitely my favorite ball out of the bag and if need to go into something cleaner, the Halo Pearl is the ideal compliment.
The IQ Tour Edition and Venom Shock are both very good on house shots. The Code X and the Pro-Motion are quite good, too. I've had good luck with the Hy-Road most times. Normally lay the Hy-Road down on about board 13 and target board 9; however, recently moved over to lay down on board 17 and targeted board 14 which worked well. I was surprised. Plenty of oil rings on the ball all morning, too.
I'm on staff with SWAGG now (California Bowling Company, LLC) and I love the incredible. Before I got on staff, I turned to the DV8 Turmoil Solid, the Brunswick Prism Hybrid, or the Closer Solid (second series with the Closer I shot 834 with a 300 first game)
I like Brunswick. I don’t know I just trust the company. I’ve been bowling using storm for years this year I’m gonna use Brunswick for my line up. So far less results. But gonna go through the year with Brunswick line up. I just purchased the Purple Hammer and I have the Zenith Hybrid in order. I don’t use spare balls. And I was usually sticking to just 1 ball and that was Pitch Blue for my strikes and spares. Mainly a 1 ball guy not really bringing more then 1 ball to tournaments and leagues. But yeah I’m gonna go with a Brunswick Arsenal and a spare ball.
So far I have new Purple Hammer, Zenith coming up in order I might try that Brunswick prism and Black widow. I was interested in U Motion but U Motion not in Stock. I’ll be throwing all Brunswick bowling balls this season see how it goes.
Very underrated topic. As a high rev player, I am usually scared to throw the big tanks. They tend to burn up early and hit very weak, even on house shots. Might a different surface or layout help with this?
I’m a two hander out of Las Vegas. I’ve bowled league at three different houses and the difference is crazy! One only does head runs before league play so you never know what you’re going to get. I’m currently at south point and almost always have to use urethane game one. With the exception of the head run house, the go to seems to be the Motiv Desert Tank.
My favorite ball at the moment is the Electrify Solid but I am growing to love the Widow Ghost and get reacquainted with an old favorite, the DV8 Poison Pearl .
I must be missing something here. I throw Urethane (Purple Tank) on house shots all the time, and regularly score between 210-230 with it (which is high, for me least). I can't get anywhere near that with my reactive balls (hybrid, pearl). I've had a lot of success with the Tank Blitz as well, which is that "urethane-ish" Motiv coverstock blended with reactive. Maybe it's just the Pitch Black that wasn't working for them? What Barks said about urethane is very true - you definitely can't start it on 5, nor can you expect to throw it through oil from deep angles. But there's plenty of playable lane between those two extremes. I usually play up 10-13 pretty straight, and my ball just walks right into the pocket.

I've used my Storm Match Up Black, with either out of the box 2000 or if it's hooking too hard and not getting further down the lane as i want, i will put a 4000 to it and it works for all 3 games
Avid viewer here and I have to admit I’m not a fan of the background. I loved the pro shop in the background. My two cents and won’t make me stop watching!
The very few times there is a house shot in the center I bowl on, it's nearly impossible to use strong balls due to the extremely high-friction surface there is out there. Normally the play is to go with medium to weaker benchmark type balls like IQ Tour or Venom Shock
Been playing with a Brunswick rhino and a radical squatch and not getting it took very much down lane. Doing research from your channel I learned that I needed a solid reactive cover so I bought a phase 2. Hope it helps my game lol
@@jrproshop thanks guys I appretiate it. Also was looking at the radical results. But heard asym balls for no thumb bowlers isnt recommended. Is this true?
I usually throw a parallax if I want to create more angle or a hustle au i drilled really weak if I want to play a little straighter on house shots, gets me around a 170-180 avg.
It's worth pointing out that some centers have older oil machines/worn machines that can be mediocre to at best at laying down oil or cleaning the backend. Urethane thrives where lane conditions are inconsistent or it heats up during the summertime
First let me say I really like your channel. My favorite house shot ball is a very old Brunswick Edge Reactive (bought circa 2004). This one is really old school, 16 lbs., with a pancake weight block. In 2015 I averaged 211 for nine games with this ball in a tournament and won $495. The problem is that I can’t use this weight anymore, and my grip has changed because of arthritis. I’ve tried about a dozen different lighter balls since then, but nothing has worked as well as Old Reliable, mostly I think because my ball speed has dropped below 13 mph. The current favorite is a Roto Grip Hybrid Hustle, 14 lbs. It carries fairly well, and I have a little bit of miss room with it. I just got a 13 lb. Motiv Top Thrill, but I haven’t drilled it yet. Maybe that’s the one…
I am in my late 60s and just returned to bowling about 6 months ago. I strictly bowl on house shots and I use as my only ball a Hustle AU (14lbs). I typically average in the 180s and my speed is around 14-15 mph. I am looking for something stronger and am thinking that the Axiom may be a good choice. My plan would be to use the Hustle AU more as a spare ball and/or second ball. I am accurate with my spares using the AU, but feel that I need something stronger to get more strikes. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Your videos are great and are helping me understand the game a lot more. Thanks.
I like this channel a lot. I throw an Axiom on a house shot. Love it. I’m older and don’t have the “big rev” shot. Really like how it finishes for me. I went to the pro shop; told them what I wanted it to do. Told them how I throw and a kid no More than 18 or 19 years old said, “this one”. He was really confident in his recommendation and he was 💯 correct. Unfortunately, they’ve discontinued the ball. The pro shop said they have no idea why and they are not happy. One suggestion; wish you had a LH’r in the videos. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s just a mirror image shot, (😂) but I like to see the view from “my” side!! Really like the content; keep up the great work!
What's recommended for wood lanes house shot. Symmetrical or asymmetrical? Struggling on wood lanes house shot this season Arsenal Brunswick Wicked Siege Hyroad Solid (starting ball) Prism solid (game 2 transition) same line and mark Prism Hybrid (3rd game, move 2 or 4 board left Thoughts on what I can do since the prisms burn up too soon Hyroad can be too violent late on the lanes Wicked siege is weaker cover but asymmetrical so have to move 2 or 4 board left after game 1 Thank you
I love using the Phaze 2 On A House Shot Because Its a great ball and its a ball I love to use on Short, Medium, and Even Long Patterns. I also shot 215 practice with The Phaze 2!
These guys are young smart the know what they are talking about, they talk the talk and bowl what they are talking about, so let's get ready to BOWL!!!
When I was competing ABC frowned on lane blocking. They were turning down high score awards all the time and even suspending sanctioning on some centers until they came back into compliance.....now with the synthetic surfaces that's really the only way to produce consistent scoring conditions. My how things have changed.
Another awesome vid! I dont know if you guys are always keen to hearing video ideas, but i was thinking maybe something to do with knowing if you’re playing the right angle on a pattern. Awesome stuff as always.
@@jrproshop Say for example you go to bowl a tournament and its a short pattern. Granted most of the time you can play multiple angles, but generally playing left for something like Wolf can be challenging so you would wanna play straighter. Just kind of generalizing which angles of attack you would wanna use for certain situations. I know this may be hard because all bowlers are different but just a random idea that popped into my head, haha. Either way though, no worries and keep up the excellent work.
I was hoping to see a hammer raw or a rhino or something super budget. Their reviews said they’d put those in their bags I expected house shot to be these balls go to patterns.
Revisited this vid as our league added Wall St. Since the UC3 was not out when this was made, thoughts on this ball for this pattern as my IQ Tour cracked
Thx for all of your videos. I really enjoy watching them. It makes sense what you are saying. But, I believe bowling is a game of accuracy. You should be close to your intended target as possible. I am old school. I am less concerned about the cover stock. I am more concerned about finding my target on the lane. And making minor adjustments off of that target. Whenever you have a choice, go for the solid because the myth is that they carry better than a harder ball such as a pearl.
i am at the beginner level. i am having a hard time with hooking balls i dont know how or what ball even can. i have been thinking of getting one of storms tropical surge balls the teal/blue and the black gold/sliver i want both but dont know if thats pointless to get the same ball with different color and smell
I need help understanding bowling I’m not new to bowling I just don’t fully under how the layout works or the best balls to use or what to get for me currently I’m using a Phase 3 just cause I heard it was good I’m not bad with it just want to be better over all
This is an important video because most of us bowl on house shots. I am on the best league I have ever been on in 42 years. The alley puts down a fantastic shot that uses a ton of oil yielding multiple 300s each week and guys who average in the 240s. Normally I go over the 8 board but all the oil forces me right. I can still get to the pocket but I don't have as much room for error and want a stronger ball so I can use my normal more forgiving line. My favorite ball is the good ole Marvel Pearl. When the pattern starts drying out I move to my Astro Physix. So I was considering getting either an Axiom or the Proton Physix (the two balls in this video) to handle the oil. But I don't know which one to get. I prefer symmetrical balls like the Marvel Pearl so that points me toward the Axiom. But when the Astro Physix works it does amazing things at the back end. I am nearly 65, only have modest revs, and average around 215. So should I get the Axiom or the Proton Physix?
It sounds like you gravitate towards the symmetric balls, and those are normally better on typical league conditions, so the Axiom is going to be the best option. It has the same coverstock as the Proton Physix, but will be easier to control, and will allow you to stay further right as well.
I have an old hammer urethane that i get the same results you showed. I need a new ball. I was thinking the hammer RAW? What do you think of the hybrids?
For me the Ebonite Allure pearl reactive (symm core) with an aggressive pin-up drilling pattern works on the THS. My super strong, dull, asymm DV8 Warrant solid burns up too much energy before hitting the pocket.
Is it not also true that solids will dry the lane up even more than something shinier, creating even more of an issue when the lanes begin to break down?
What Storm/Roto/900 balls would you recommend for a house shot that keeps the inside light oil and puts a heavier volume from 3-7. Boards 1-2 are bone dry.
@@jrproshop Thanks. Have all of them except RST-X1 and they are all too strong. I have a 475 rev rate but only 15.5-16 speed at the pins so super rev dominant. Even my tropical surge is too much on the fresh. Once the lanes transition I have been able to score with the Trend and Pitch Purple but haven’t been able to light it up. I just bought a pro motion from someone. I use 14lb equipment now due to injury and everything I throw seems to boomerang.
Local lanes oil machines are inconsistent at best (if they work at all) so ball choice varies greatly. Need to see how lanes react every week but standard house shot balls are: Virtual tour exclusive (think phase III cover with gravity series core) pin down, conspiracy theory or code x. Sometimes my crux prime but that seems more situational as it can be jumpy off the friction.
Extremely interesting i would like to know if maybe a strong urethane, as the pitch purple, could be a good choice as a "early rolling" and "strong ball"(stronger than the pitch black) to play between 2 and 3.5 arrow on house shot (7 to 10)ratio... Plus, as a two handed bowler, we're "probably" helped by speed and rpm in these conditions but, with 480 rpm and 17 to 18 mph, are you still going to pick a strong and early rolling ball. In my arsenal : pitch purple, iq pearl, timeless, Son!Q, hy road solid, code X... you assume that the "best option" is the hy road solid or maybe code x? But this last is assym. ^^ Sorry for this long comment and thanks for this educational content who complete very well the videos to promote bowling ball!
can you guys do a video of how you know when to switch balls for house shots/sport shots im not sure if you do have one but that would be a big help. i have a hard time of knowing when to switch when i move left. i want know when and why from pin reaction and ball reaction.
Any other ball suggestions in the Storm, Roto, Global 900 line ups for Shimoo? Could they switch what was shown? Good stuff as I prepare for next years league that I struggle at. Lots of help from this vid. Thanks
Was looking for my first bowling ball. I bowl with two fingers and two hands. I am a intermediate bowler I’d say. Was looking at the axiom but not sure what to buy as I want a versatile bowling ball for the first one. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hey Tyler we actually just filmed a video about this, we'd suggest something that hooks a bit less for your first ball such as a hustle pbr will be much easier for you to learn to control the hook
Seen a lot of your videos with Jimoo throwing the axiom and as a fellow two handed bowler with similar stats, was thinking about buying it. Any suggestion on a layout for my PAP is 6" Right 2" Down?
what surface do you guys recommend with the solid balls? I have a crux prime and throwing it in down 17-18 breakpoint 10-8 sometimes it doesn't hook as much as I'd like it to. urethane reaction like you know? 2000 surface. should I lane shine it up a bit or go even deeper and get more teeth with 1000 1500 grit? I am a rev dominant player with 13-15mph so I kind of like the dead reaction. my supra enzo is at 3000 grit and hooks a ton... huge difference when I switch from the prime to it hahaha.
It depends. Kinda sounds like it’s hooking too early and losing energy with the urethane type reaction so maybe polish it?. But we always recommend box finish as that’s what the manufacturer design intent is.
Hi ,I used to play as a stroker with 15lb ball but decided to start learning high rev style . I bought a new ball motiv venom shock 13lb to try to remove the old bad habit tht I had before.is 13lb good enough for house shot or it's a waste and should hve gone for 14lb instead?thanks
I use proton, rstx1 and then trend for games 1,2,3. Got my avg up to a 210 and climbing. Oh and at the “hardest house” in my state because they dont clean the back ends lmfao just what ive been told multiple times.
Barks, what is your house shot arsenal? How do you typically play the lanes? I’ve had an issue throwing big scores as of late on house. I’m so used to throwing it up the side I feel like I’ve lost the ability to play inside a little bit. I’ve gotten very inconsistent and I think I might be overthinking it a bit.
I haven’t bowled on a house shot in a while haha. But if I were to put a 3 ball bag together, I’d say Proof Hybrid, Obsession Tour, and a Bonus. Usually there’s a pretty defined oil line around 10 board, so I want to be just inside of that to maximize my area on the lane
So technically my house shot is like a 41ft, sometimes 38, sometimes 43 (really depending on where I am bowling at) and my arsenal is Halo Solid, White Hot Badger and Pitch Purple. I would say that I love my White Hot Badger the most, as it reads the lanes very well majority of the time, but will give credit to Halo Solid for unpredictable shots and Pitch Purple is just a very good urethane ball!
Hey Jung, what would you say about bowling on wood lanes vs synthetic? would you still start with the same ball with surface to start and switch to less surface as they break down?
It depends. But usually for me, I go right to the symmetric balls to start with a little surface. Maybe 2000 to start and then a ball with 4000 and then polish. Last time on wood for a regional I went idol > iq tour> iq Emerald
JR I wanted to ask if you had a choice for someone who plays up 10 mostly from left side and wants a step down ball from the tank between the Rubicon and Incite who wants something that grabs the mids with strong continuous backend out of the two do you have a preference or do you have any other suggestions. Thanks Rich
Hey Rich, the coverstock on the Incite is a fair bit stronger than the Rubicon, which will give you more traction in the midlane, so I’d probably lean towards the Incite
Hey guys! So I have: The Gem, Phaze II, IQ Tour Edition, Parallax Effect and the Motiv Thrill. I am thinking the Gem would be a good ball for house shots. What else do you think would work the best?
Im a beginner 2 handed and i always play on house lanes sometimes they have so much oil and sometimes they are dry So do you think the axiom or the physics are a good choice for me ? And it a great video btw i was looking for videos talking about this topic on UA-cam
@@jrproshop so is the axiom a good choice, sorry because I didn’t get what you mean English is not my first language, and if its not a good choice do you have any suggestions. Sorry for asking again

Usually iq nano pearl, but my rubicon uc2 and Hb intensity have been really good too
Iq tour for a lot of patterns. Best ball ever!
What's recommended for wood lanes house shot.
Symmetrical or asymmetrical?
Struggling on wood lanes house shot this season
Arsenal
Brunswick Wicked Siege
Hyroad Solid (starting ball)
Prism solid (game 2 transition) same line and mark
Prism Hybrid (3rd game, move 2 or 4 board left
Thoughts on what I can do since the prisms burn up too soon
Hyroad can be too violent late on the lanes
Wicked siege is weaker cover but asymmetrical so have to move 2 or 4 board left after game 1
Thank you
Answered in other question you asked in different vid 🙂
I love using the Phaze 2 On A House Shot Because Its a great ball and its a ball I love to use on Short, Medium, and Even Long Patterns. I also shot 215 practice with The Phaze 2!
These guys are young smart the know what they are talking about, they talk the talk and bowl what they are talking about, so let's get ready to BOWL!!!
Love your guys' vids, keep it up
When I was competing ABC frowned on lane blocking. They were turning down high score awards all the time and even suspending sanctioning on some centers until they came back into compliance.....now with the synthetic surfaces that's really the only way to produce consistent scoring conditions. My how things have changed.
I use the purple hammer on my house, shot it 45 feet, and I use the 3d offset attack as well
Another awesome vid! I dont know if you guys are always keen to hearing video ideas, but i was thinking maybe something to do with knowing if you’re playing the right angle on a pattern. Awesome stuff as always.
We love video ideas. Can you expand a little more ?
@@jrproshop Say for example you go to bowl a tournament and its a short pattern. Granted most of the time you can play multiple angles, but generally playing left for something like Wolf can be challenging so you would wanna play straighter. Just kind of generalizing which angles of attack you would wanna use for certain situations. I know this may be hard because all bowlers are different but just a random idea that popped into my head, haha. Either way though, no worries and keep up the excellent work.
@@JKGYHTM would love this video.
I was hoping to see a hammer raw or a rhino or something super budget. Their reviews said they’d put those in their bags I expected house shot to be these balls go to patterns.
I have one of those (a raw) and use it in my house shot league. Really like it for the price
Revisited this vid as our league added Wall St. Since the UC3 was not out when this was made, thoughts on this ball for this pattern as my IQ Tour cracked
Great Job Guys! My fav right now on House is the Electrify Hybrid. Used in three different houses(one with wood lanes)
I love the Crux Prime on house shots
What grit you got it at?
@@pokiis3of10 1000-2000, I don’t have a ton of rev rate though
Thx for all of your videos. I really enjoy watching them. It makes sense what you are saying. But, I believe bowling is a game of accuracy. You should be close to your intended target as possible. I am old school. I am less concerned about the cover stock. I am more concerned about finding my target on the lane. And making minor adjustments off of that target. Whenever you have a choice, go for the solid because the myth is that they carry better than a harder ball such as a pearl.
Would like to have seen a hybrid thrown instead of urethane. Have had success with a super Soniq and a couple of other solid pieces.
Phaze 2 is my go to
i am at the beginner level. i am having a hard time with hooking balls i dont know how or what ball even can. i have been thinking of getting one of storms tropical surge balls the teal/blue and the black gold/sliver i want both but dont know if thats pointless to get the same ball with different color and smell
@@jrproshop would the phaze2 be a good choice like the axiom . How about the axiom pearl?
I have an old hammer urethane that i get the same results you showed. I need a new ball. I was thinking the hammer RAW? What do you think of the hybrids?
I have fallen in love with my incite for my house shot.
My go-to ball on house shot is the Roto Grip Wild Streak. unfortunately our bowling centers are still closed :(
How's the Covid count there?
@@Monk-Amani. not very high tbh...but the german government is just going bonkers and crazy atm...
Reality, to Zen, then C4. Loving the 900 Global stuff!
How often do you sand Reality? And when do you know it is time to switch to Zen?
Radical Zing Hybrid. Pin up. Hits so nice.
What Storm/Roto/900 balls would you recommend for a house shot that keeps the inside light oil and puts a heavier volume from 3-7. Boards 1-2 are bone dry.
iQ Tour and Phaze II are never bad choices. Rubicon or RST X-1 could be good if the volume in the middle is a bit heavier as well.
On house shots I use my proton physics or my timeless
Rip'd Solid or Web Tour depending on how dry what angles I'm shooting....if it gets too dry, I pick up the Vibe.
Sorry for this long comment and thanks for this educational content who complete very well the videos to promote bowling ball!
can you guys do a video of how you know when to switch balls for house shots/sport shots im not sure if you do have one but that would be a big help. i have a hard time of knowing when to switch when i move left. i want know when and why from pin reaction and ball reaction.
Any other ball suggestions in the Storm, Roto, Global 900 line ups for Shimoo? Could they switch what was shown? Good stuff as I prepare for next years league that I struggle at. Lots of help from this vid. Thanks
Depends what his need is. Maybe a zen to replace his soniq for his sym pearl ball
Proton #1 Idol Synergy or Hustle PBR #2
Right now my favorite ball is the Phase 2. Butt would like to try the Incite.
Thoughts on !Q Tour for a house pattern as a 2 hander?
Can’t go wrong with an iQ Tour! Very versatile ball
@@jrproshop Do you think it would still give a miss room similar to the Axiom?
40x4x40 simple and strong
My favorite ball is my spare ball cuz I use it the most😁
what surface do you guys recommend with the solid balls?
Rotogrip hywire 2000grit no polish ! Great ball have 4nib as backup.
@@jrproshop Thanks brother, keep up the great content. Love all the reviews and tips you guys throw out there.
Will the Wolverine work at low speeds on a house shot?
Your thoughts, please
Hey guys! So I have: The Gem, Phaze II, IQ Tour Edition, Parallax Effect and the Motiv Thrill. I am thinking the Gem would be a good ball for house shots. What else do you think would work the best?
Radical Intel is a house shot killer. I love mine. If they get too wet/dry I go to aConspiracy theory
Damn Good Verge is a killer on house shot!
What does simoo use for the wet/dry condition? I use the proton physix too and I love it.
He has the proton and also the omega crux that is sanded. And also the idol for his medium ball
Im a beginner 2 handed and i always play on house lanes sometimes they have so much oil and sometimes they are dry
So do you think the axiom or the physics are a good choice for me ? And it a great video btw i was looking for videos talking about this topic on UA-cam
Axiom would be more useful on more different oil patterns
@@jrproshop so is the axiom a good choice, sorry because I didn’t get what you mean English is not my first language, and if its not a good choice do you have any suggestions. Sorry for asking again
Hammer Redemption Solid for me
