I was trying to tell my buddy that this would be the only way to do it... many months ago. Maybe this video will help convince him! I hate not being able to mix what we record! Thanks.
yeah i have done this in the studio many times when people bring in a garageband session and I want to mix it in Pro Tools. Alternatively you can open a garageband session in Logic Pro X
PS On a Mac (which you are, 'cos you're using GarageBand), if you Option-Click most parameters e.g. Volume and Pan, it defaults to Volume Unity and Pan Centre. Much quicker...
@@videocasetteTV use the loop cycle as the in and out marker and then 1. select "share" then "Export song to disk" then 2. make sure there is a tick in "export cycle area". It will then use the cycle area as the in and out marker. Are you making a loop?
Yes, simply export your whole song as a .WAV file and you can upload that to tunecore - here is a video where I export both .WAV and .MP3 from GarageBand ua-cam.com/video/ScoCjSHui5M/v-deo.html
Happily following your exact steps up until about 5 minutes into video... that's when I see there's no "import" under the File menu in Garage Band. I have two separate stems/tracks saved in a folder on desktop which I'm wanting to send to someone else working with Garage Band. Ant help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the video. Is this method better than to open up the project media contents in finder and drag those audio files that already exist? Or will those just be the original recordings and not have the edits..thanks again!
Audio in CAMTESIA is horrible. What can I do to fix it ? When I use my voice recorder on my pc the mic sound is perfect but when I record using camtasia the mic is horrible. Is there a way to register the sound garage band and use it on CAMTESIA? I just use my camtasia for teaching by using screen recorder. Sorry for my English, I speak French
It really depends on what you are going to be doing with the stems. If you are sending them to a professional to mix then I would export them all at full volume (0dB) and panned to the centre and without effects. If you want to send your basic mix to someone else just for a few tweaks or mastering ect. then you can keep the volumes at your mix level.
Hello! how do you export for example the 3rd track and have it line up in another producers DAW? Do I have to record the silence up to the point where I come in ? instead of just hitting record when I am ready to come in say at :45 seconds in. Otherwise they don't line up. Thanks!
Right about the 2:16 mark of the video, he explains how to select the track from the very beginning of the track to the end of the track. This will export the entire length of the track from the zero mark, along with everything in the track, and create silence up until the part where you do your thing at :45 seconds in your example. So the blank space is created for you in this case.
I have to send my audios to my producer for him to mix and master them, is it enought to just export and put into the folder then send it to him or do I necessarily need to download Pro Tools and do the thing u did?
Hi Gabriele, just send the producer the audio stems. You don't need Pro Tools. All they need is the separated audio files and they will load them up into whatever audio software they use.
@@StudioHacks I switched it to 24 bit and went to the wave file instead of AIFF 16 bit and had success. It was the loop drums I had on garage band. I am very new at this and any problem I could encounter I would. But thanks for your concern. The song is now complete on youtube if you get a spare minute. The only way to make stems for each track is to solo the track and export the song. If you have multiple takes on one track you will need to split them out onto individual tracks, solo them and export the song.
so when I check the sizes of each stem a few of them say 24.8MB and a few say 25.2MB. Is that okay?? or does that I mean I did it wrong. cause I noticed you said they all have to be the exact same size.
Maybe make sure you check the box on the export screen that says use cycle region length and make sure your cycle is on and it starts at the very start of the session.
If you have created a song in Garageband and would like to work on it in another software program such as Ableton Live or Pro Tools for a remix ect. it is much better to have the individual tracks separated. There is no simply way to export stems (individual tracks) from garageband which is why I made this video. thanks for the comment :)
so you have turned the reverb and compression off? and its still ending up on the stems? hmmm. The compression thing might be fixed by turning off "auto normalise" in "advanced, under "preferences". Also do you have any track reverb plugins switched on?
Ok so can I ask you a question if I paid a engineer to mix my tracks why is the engineer asking me to do the export stem thing ? Please get back so I know I’m not getting got

@Studio Hacks you just forgot to check "Export cycle area" at the Bottom which is the most important thing to do otherwise it won't work out at all.
thanks man this helped a lot cause i like looping from garage band but i didnt know how to transfer in stems
Thanks for this exactly what I needed.
I followed all of the steps in the video but the files still didn’t export. the little bar wouldn’t run across the loop to indicate saving. Any ideas?
But how do you create the stems. I see how to export them but how do u make them

Thanks but I get some smal variation in size of the files - what to do?
Thanks for thé tip. It really helped.

Awesome tutorial, how do I define in and out area and export it only
Do you mean where the song starts and finishes? just select the loop range (gold bar) across the top from the song start to finish.
@@StudioHacks i want to export specific area in the sound track not the whole track , how can i do this
