I've just seen this film. It's amazing. Michael Caine is great as usual, but the revelation for me is the beautiful Aubrey Plaza who plays Lucy. In this movie she is absolutely adorable.
I sure hope so! I remember back in the eighties, Michael Caine was in a film called 'Blame it on Rio'. The young lead actress was on a talk show and the host asked her how excited she had been when she had first learned Michael Caine was in the film. She admitted that when she first got the role, she had no clue who he was!
"Chicken Soup for the Soul" is a GREAT NAME for this production company, because this movie (Best Sellers) is indeed "Chicken Soup for the Soul" ...... The affirming message (SPOILER ALERT) is that we have an obligation to do good things for other people (and not VIRTUE SIGNALING, but actual GOOD THINGS which require a sacrifice on our part) .... As I think about the final 15 minutes of the movie I start to cry all over again - and NOT out of sadness, but out of JOY .... the joy which is derived from the inherent goodness of people (like Anne Frank wrote in her Diary - "in the end, people are really good at heart") ..... Folks, we cannot save the world - but we can do our part, one person at a time..... Thank you so much for producing this wonderfully uplifting film - the cinematography and performances were exquisite, and it's message will stay with me forever!
This is not some mystery/thriller film where it's better to not know the plot details. It's a dramedy. It's a ''buddy'' movie. It's the type of movie you watch not to know ''what is the twist'' or how plot unfolds - but for experience and emotions it evokes. WOW ....... i laughed and laughed...... and then i cried and cried ....... no SPOILER ALERT here ...... i just will tell everyone who cares to listen - THIS IS A MOVIE WORTH SEEING, over and over and over again! It is an affirmation of everything that is good in this world of ours! Michael Caine is fantastic (there's a shocker LOL), and Aubrey is her usual amazing self, with a lot of "Lucy Stanbridge" thrown in for good measure - and don't worry - i have a 48 hour lease on this movie ...... i will be watching it at least 3 more times (and then i will buy the DVD when it becomes available)

That first segment in the TRAILER where it is shown that Harris Shaw's contract (which dates to the early 1970s) indicates that he owes Sternbridge Publishing ONE BOOK, and just one book - and then, any contractual obligation connecting Shaw with that publishing house is over ...... This is very important at the end of the movie, because it means that Shaw (his posthumous manuscripts) are not owned or controlled by Sternbridge, and Lucy is free to do as she will with them

i read his book. The Korean war bit where the Chinese attacked at night and formed a human ramp with dead bodies. The rest is very funny. "Or so I've been told"!
Well, the storyline isn't new, the old, grumpy, erratic recluse who is forced to come out of his shell kicking and screaming. I'll give it a miss on big screen. Might watch it one day if it comes up free to watch on UA-cam as a Hallmark movie.
