Ludwig von Mises noted that National Socialism (fascism) and Communism are two sides of the same coin of interventionism. Under fascism, government and business collude to impose political policy via business. Under communism, government contols who runs the business and holds ownership, and the business is the direct instrument of the state. The outcomes are nearly the same- destruction of wealth and lives.

I think this isn't talked about enough, even by Jordan. The arrogance of other who think they or more likely someone else that they will follow can bring about utopia. In this video Jordan just says it as an off handed remark, but I think it's worth discussing in depth what that arrogance entails. I would love to hear someone ask a socialist to explain what they would do on the way to the utopia if people resist the vision.
What do you do with anyone who resists your Capitalist utopia? Just one quick look in the mirror bud. that's all it takes. ;) You kill them or throw them in jail, dummy.
While attending college at age 18 (36 years ago) I was elected the entertainment officer at the student union. I then attended the Nation Union of Students conference here in the UK. Most of the student activists seemed to support Socialism or Communist ideologies (maybe it was cool). What I intuitively concluded was that those who supported these ideologies all seemed to possess a personal grievance against something (a chip on thier shoulder) rather than a true desire to help improve the wellbeing of the working class. In Bertrand Russell's interview when he is questioned on his thoughts of Lenin he said he did not think of him well because Lenin seemed to take great delight when the land owning farmers were hanged by their necks from the trees by the revolting peasants. It seem to me that Lenin had a "Chip on his shoulder" probably against those who had higher positions in society for whatever reason. The rest is history.
Lenin's father was granted the (hereditary) status of Russian nobility. Lenin himself could come and go as he pleased into the Tsar's court. He could have spent his life at some high administrative position, instead of getting arrested, exiled, beaten and so on. The right is probably doing it out of spite of the involvement of the west in Urkaine, that provoked Putin and maybe because they like Putin as the strong leader, they think Germany is missing. And the left is so deranged that they still think of Russia as a glorious socialist utopia for some reason, which could not be further from the truth and also because of the involvement of the west aka capitalism in Ukraine.
Communism is not coming to the West. The West is a feudalistic system ruled by the new Lords and dictators - bankers and oligarchs who own corporations and control their puppet governments. Consider, for example, the U.S. Federal Government. The U.S. Federal Government does NOT provide the nation with repairs and support of infrastructure, education, healthcare, retirement plans, law enforcement. And yet, the federal government collects 15 to 30 percent of the income of regular working people. This is exactly what Feudals did to the common folks in the middle centuries in feudalistic countries. To prevent people's revolt, they scare people by spreading lies about "communism coming."

The weird thing and worth investigate and complicate thing is, communisim always end up with dictatorship, revolution and dictatorship combine together killing millions of people. The question worth asking, is there anyway we can achieve a socialism without dictatorship, or socialism always tangled with dictatorship. From a history point view, the second one happens all the time. And by the way, about the statistics of 100 million killed by communism, the stats is controversial, but 50-100 million is more rigid. When I first heard the analogy, I thought it was out in left field, but the more I think about it, viewing any form of socialism as a religious cult seems completely appropriate. I think I can give a simpler answer to the question. The two murderous regimes (Nazi Germany and Stalin's Russia) had one decisive thing in common: They were totalitarian. Totalitarian means essentially that individual liberty has been taken away from the citizen and he has to abide by the extreme rules of an ideology implemented. At that point, it doesn't really matter anymore what exactly that ideology is, because the citizens have become its slaves. This is the true (d)evil. A corollary is that we should always strive to support political movements that try to maximize individual freedoms without sliding into anarchy.
Totalitarian is just a made up word where everything is a total of everything else. Intellectuals claimed that FDR's United States, NAZI Germany and Stalin's Soviet Union were on their way to being totalitarian regimes. It complete ignores the role the working class plays in history for simple explanations based upon a so called innate desire to control others and the supremacy of propaganda over truth.
Any planned economy can only function as a totalitarian system. If you have central planning, everyone must follow the master plan, no exceptions or it won't work. This means it doesn't matter if you call it communism, socialism, fascism, nazism, technocracy they all end up the same way if taken to a conclusion.
Your use of the word totalitarian explains nothing it just a label you attach for lack of intellectual freedom. Like Petersen you think it must be ideological because all parties Stalin, Hitler and Mao involved are educated people and the is no clear monetary gain.
My four grandparents all fled the Soviet Union shortly after the revolution. I completely agree with you that communism always ends the same way -- in brutality. In my opinion, the political system is not best thought of as a spectrum from left to right. Rather, it is better thought of as a circle. Once you get to the extreme left of communism or the extreme right of autocratic nationalism, they are both directly adjacent to each other. There is effectively no difference between a communist regime and an autocratic nationalist regime. The dogma that they use as a fig leaf to justify their brutality might be different, but the populace sent off to a gulag won't experience a difference if the guards are wearing a hammer and cycle versus a swastika.

I believe that part of the reason Communism isn't viewed as badly as Naziism is that while people are told "100 million people died as a result of Communist policies", that's just a number to people. For the Nazis on the other hand, everyone has seen pictures of the concentration camps, the rounding up of peoples for the trains to go to the gas chambers. I agree. We need to awaken our youth who appear to prefer socialism. High school curriculum with an opposing view of socialism seems to have been dropped after the 1980s from what I have gathered. Maybe it was considered unnecessary after the fall of the Soviets, and we didn't want to offend our now cheap labor, large customer base friend China. Many quote "1984", and act like they know it, but I wonder how many have actually read it, and realized it was inspired by actual events chiefly under Stalin, and not a pure work of fiction. I would like to think the younger generations would be terrified of losing their liberties after reading, especially after seeing what is happening around them. Warnings from communist refugees just bounce off them. They have nothing to identify with. "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding was about the Weimar Republic, a constitutional federal republic like the United States that fell to the Nazis (socialists). I think the message was Americans don't think it couldn't happen to you. "Animal Farm" is a symbolic story of the fall of Czarist Russia, the Bolshevik Revolution, and Stalin's regime where the animals ended in as bad a situation as what they fought against. China fell 114 days after publication. He saw the coming of the Cold War. A situation that might be reemerging today. Again making it relevant to our youth. I didn't mean to bore. Often when people blame the hierarchy for the poor conditions of someone else, what they actually want is a new hierarchy where the poor are at the top and that this will fix things. No all you have done is replace the top of the hierarchy from a small person to large group of people, aka the tyranny of the majority. The hierarchy is still in place, but for some reason the poor will make better decisions. Which ignores what the hierarchy was based on in the first place - competence. People who understood things more clearly will rise, and those people are far better at being in power, because they understand more things more clearly. Of course we should have empathy for the poor and try to help them, which the capitalist countries are very good at, not perfect but very good. Not so much the non capitalist countries, if they do have welfare its nothing compared to the capitalist countries welfare that can house and feed and keep someone in relative comfort. In the non capitalist countries welfare is next to nothing, maybe its around a 2 slices of bread a day per person. You cant compare them.
That's one of the main issues I see with the communist manifesto in general. Supposedly, when the poor majority take over, they become righteous and virtuous people who will definitely not try to impose tyrannical rule over the people that were oppressing them and somehow, because they are poor and were oppressed, they will be able to make better decisions.
I don't see Hunter Biden as a competent businessman. The hierarchy is largely based on competency but the top is also filled with psychopaths and cheats or greedy people that would sell their own mother to make a dollar. Attaining power isn't just based on competence but it's also acquired through Machiavellian actions and brutality. Watch the heirs of an estate fight over the estate. The ones that take a larger share often use brute force. They use blackmail, extortion, psychological manipulation. Stalin wasn't bright. He was a bank robber. He used brutality and murder to attain and hold his power. That could be considered a type of competency, I guess, but what I'm trying to say is that often the ones with the power and money are the least righteous of us all.
Daniel... in practice, the hierarchy at the head of Socialist states is never an entire class - despite the claims of Socialist propaganda. It is always the leaders of the “Party”, and they are never “poor” . One oligarchy replaces another.... and this is one of the reasons why Socialism and National Socialism (Nazism) are fundamentally the same, differing only in slogans and symbols.
Bro today's hierarchies is not based always on competence, sometimes is just inheritance (privilege), sometimes the rulers are Machiavellian and tyrannical, you know, is not always about being fit for the ruler job
That is very true - the reason people fail to find comparison between nazis and soviets is because nazi ideology is CLEAR whereas communism isn't. So it is clear who nazis going to kill and why. soviet ideology at first it may seem harmless, but precisely because it isn't clear where the lines are, in reality it means that everyone who in some degree is slightly above average is potential threat and therefore could become victim. Just think about it - statistically 50% will always be above average is some way and as soon as they dealt with, the person who was just below average now takes their place. So automatically the list of targets for repression in soviet rule is unlimited and they went after people who are genuinely good for society, anyone educated, anyone successful, any business or farm owner were at risk and many got killed... reason? Simple - as long as somebody could be jealous of you achievements you going to gulag or worse. Have nicer shoes - gulag, more beautiful wife - gulag, cleaner house - gulag, your lawn is greener - not allowed, gulag. And to be average is very low bar, because what people don't realise is that somebody always going to be at the bottom, junk of the society going to be jealous of even basic things, even worse - it was enough just being accused to get in trouble, it is not like there were genuine investigation or fact finding. No it was enough that your alcoholic neighbour has made a statement that in private you oppose stalin and that is all it takes to get in trouble. Maybe not gulag right away, but be sure if there is a purge or if they looking to fill quotas for gulag then you will be the one on the list to visit. So this caused race to the bottom where the only way to be safe from gulag is not to stick out as much as possible, have nothing, owning nothing and have no goals in life... which is very destructive for any society. And by the way we all forget mao, I am partially guilty of this was well... most people know how horrible hitler was, many (not enough) now accept that stalin was horrible, still very few realise that he was more horrible than hitler (morally comparable, but statistically much worse)... yet almost no one even think about mao, despite both hitler and stalin looking like armatures when it comes to killing. And we have china - country where mao is still actively glorified, ruzzia where soviet victory flags still fly high and we do business with them, how is that even possible?! This is because people do not see stalin and mao in same light, therefore they don't find it disgusting to have any relation with these countries. And I get it after 1990 soviet union collapsed, china got more open and I guess it was "experiment", showing people that free market and democracy is at least alternative and trying to convince them this is better than authoritarian regimes by allowing them to integrate into western society. But this project has well and truly failed. As soon as putka started glorifying ruzzian empire and soviet union, as soon as whinie pooh started promoting communism again they should have been barred from any relation with west. Those ideologies and regimes should not be acceptable, same as we do no accept nazis, or same if the Germany would start saying now that they going to get rid of the jews... I think nobody would accept keeping relations with the, because we know where it leads, yet we quite happy to work together with communists despite them being much worse.

My great uncle was both, first nzi, then communist. Both was equally equally hard to handle for him. No decider or soldier, he was a shoemaker in both systems.
This applied to a lot of Europeans especially in German areas. Most working class and lower middle class people leaned to the left, or toward socialism or communism. Then the Nazi party came to power and that seemed like the answer. Then everything went to hell and it looked like the communists were the only ones fighting the Nazis. After the war the communists got a lot of support because of this.
My biggest problem with the idea of the utopia/communist regime is expecting everyone to be the same, one of the biggest parts of Communist doctrine is equality of outcome, aka equity. To expect this is impossible, asking a tall person who may require more food and water, to eat and drink less is evil, to expect everyone to have the same interests is impossible, for everyone to be paid the same leads to apathy at the job. Expecting equality of outcome is one of the most evil things you can ask for, because at the core of Equality of Outcome, I recall a particular character from the video game Bioshock 2. Her name was Sophia Lamb, she is the primary antagonist of the video game, a psychologist hired by Andrew Ryan (Bioshock 1's initial antagonist) to help the people of the underwater city of Rapture cope with not being able to see the sun. Overtime, she became a communist (listen to her speeches) and became a cult of personality, with her ultimate goal of creating the world's first Utopian, by using her daughter as the experiment. She wanted her daughter to not be able to think for herself, at all, not even to breath, because to think, means you're thinking, for yourself. She wanted to abolish the "Self". Now think about Equity, and Communism, the idea of having to share everything equally, means you have to give up any kind of selfish thought. Need more water? Sorry, you're only allowed a certain amount per day! Gotta share that water, can't be "SELFISH!". Don't feel like eating that plate of food? Sorry! You can't share that to someone you love! You must eat it! because if you give your food to someone else than that means THEY were selfish! Notice how stupid that sounds? Asking people, to give up any kind of selfish thoughts, is impossible. Nature at its very core, is selfish. What do I mean by that? I don't mean selfish in the negative connotation. Normally we think of the definition of selfish as this, (of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure. However, that's not the only definition. Selfishness can simply mean, thinking for one's self, needing to breath, needing to drink, needing to eat, needing to survive. Look at every animal on earth, predator and herbivore alike, they all have to do that, eat, breath, drink, survive. They don't care who's bigger, smaller, faster, or slower, all they care about is survival. There is no equality in the animal kingdom, some animals starve to death because they were unlucky at finding food, some animals are smart enough to find a plentiful source for life, some animals adapted to eat dead animals (Vultures), while some animals are omnivores. They all think for themselves in different ways. So to ask Humanity, to stop thinking for themselves, goes against nature, it goes against what makes us human, it's pure and simply, EVIL! That, is at the core of Communism, to abolish the self, and the only way to do that? Is to die. This is why so many communist regimes end up mass murdering hundreds of millions of people, because those people resisted, they thought for themselves, they thought differently, regardless of race, sex, or orientation. Nazi's hated the jews, Communism hated anybody that was different. Anyone who thought for THEMSELVES! And resisted sharing anything they have for the common good, for the utopia, for the mother land. And this is why Capitalism, for all its faults, made America so great. It allowed people to chase their passions, and via supply/demand, could make a living from it. It allowed people to capitalize on selfish desires without being judged. It allowed people to advance technology to anyone willing to invest! It allowed people not to fear sharing food to everyone around them, especially to those who didn't work for it, out of guilt or force. It allowed people to think for themselves for what's best for their own persons. Ironically, it allowed people to share, voluntarily, out of their own desire to help rise people up to their potential. Capitalism works with nature.
If you actually take some time to study it you will find we never had free market capitalism. After the great depression, the New Deal brought about highly regulated economy (many called it socialist) and even neoliberalism was full of protectionism for big business, shady trade agreements and centralized monetary policy to influence the market. Moreover, after 2008 neoliberalism crashed and the economy was fundamentally nationalized, it cannot function anymore without constant state stimulus. Capitalism working like nature is a pseudo-religious statement, very convenient to make anyone accept the status quo. After all, if things go bad, it's just a natural force, the invisible hand. Well It's not how things work.
"Blah blah blah, listen to me talk about this video game I play, communism bad b/c according to my understanding of it individuality isn't allowed whatsoever, conclusion: capitalism good." *drools onto shirt.
"Oh, and in my imaginary capitalist utopia, people who work are following their passion, and aren't just trying to earn a paycheck to feed themselves and afford shelter."
I think it is due to the large difference between the sheer number of movies that have been made about the atrocities committed by the Nazis vs the ones committed by the communists.
Stalin died in 1953. Since then the whole Stalinist movemnet has collapsed yet Stalin aphobes like Petersen are still fighting the cold war. Petersen is an idiot who thinks his own ruling class has gone communist.
At home, I am a communist dictator. I get to be the communist dictator because as a functioning capitalist, I own that domain, and from each according to his ability means I contribute more than others. But I don't want my children to remain dependent, so I train their abilities and demand contribution, towards the ends of forming them into independently functioning capitalists ready to employ their abilities. It's important to eventually be oppressive enough that they want to move out of communism and grow to reach their own capitalist independence.
But it also works the same with ANIMALS too. I mean we both share and then: "Go ahead". You eat or being eaten. That's how capitalism works. Don't saying communism is the best. But still it Does not have slaves (yes, sometimes people own people in capitalism: millions according to Peterson and he's not the only one saying that), less crimes, less poor etc.

Communism in its pure form is a system that has the people living on a commune and the principal industry is farming. Communism works best in a society where the people are in agreement with sharing everything and the system is run by a committee that is elected by the people. If you have a single leader then there can be a problem with a probable dictatorship and things going into totalitarianism. A possible example of communal living would be that of a monastary. The problem of communism is that it works against human nature to obtain possessions. We look at possessions as being extentions of ourselves which demonstrate our taste in things. This would be the expression of our individual ego for others to see; "look at what I've got". These possessions are also a tangible indication of one's achievement in life. This is why capitalism works best for most people. Capitalism has the mechanism of competitive striving that communism doesn't. Under communism some of the people may not work as hard as others because there is little incentive to do so other than simple cooperation. However, under capitalism, each person normally has to compete for better conditions in his/her life. This competition has various aspects; education, job performance, social standing and sadly politics to name a few.
Imo Stalin essentially did to Russia what Hitler did to the Jewish race. They were both horrendous. At that time we didn't have a direct conflict with Russia during WW2. ilI don't really remember being taught about really much about Russia aside from them being a part of the Axis side and Germany betrayed them, in school. I don't know if any Russian memorial museums here about her peoples suffering.
If you force someone to give up their land in the name of the common good, how is that different from forcing someone to give up their land for the nation?
I dislike when people from capitalism countries discusses about communism! I lived all my youth in a communist country: Romania; after a short trial, the president was shut! Before Revolution, in our country was not heat in houses ( winter), electricity only few hours per day, no food in stores. If you spoke against the party ( not in public, in private, but someone snitching you) you were arrested! And so on…
But these people will tell you that your experiences are anecdotal. You didn’t get the „big picture“ while living under communism, you didn’t see the „structural benefits“ you had under Ceaușescu. Mankind doesn’t learn from history and is doomed to make the same experiences again and again. I was lucky enough to live in West Germany, but had many conversations with my fellow people from East Germany after the reunification. It wasn’t the paradise the neo-communists like to tell tell us today. And it lasted only so long until the East German regime ran out of other people’s money. People were fed up of Honecker and his ilk, despite low cost of living. And i guess East Germany was paradise compared to Ceaușescu‘s Romania.
Did Mr Peterson or anyone else do a detailed comparison of national socialism vs international socialism? Is there a video, article or a book I can read on it?

Bit late to the party but I would say, both ideologues seek a version of Utopia but the pathway for both led instead to hell, which means their people pay the ultimate price. In that sense both systems have commonality.

@@Vragga Both Communism and Fascism are movements. One Communism is the movement of the working class in struggle with the capitalist class. The other fascism is made out the reactionary elements being tossed aside as a vomit expelled by the crisis of a capitalism in decline.
Under nazism the potential victims of oppression are (in theory) finite. When the subhumans are gone, they're gone. But under communism the potential victims are absolutely infinite. Anyone and everyone is a potential enemy of the state, and there's no end to the ways of inventing new enemies. Of course nazism didn't last for very long compared to communism, so it's very possible that given enough time nazism too would keep inventing new enemies. But this difference between these two related ideologies is clear and present even in the theoretical and ideological stage.
One thing I have noticed from reading history. Dictators get paranoid after 10 or 12 years in power. They come to believe that their policies and plans are being sabotaged by some unseen enemy and that is the only reason they don't work. Hitler, Stalin, even Roosevelt. Give unlimited power to anyone who believes that and guess what happens....
Ridiculous that people can’t see they’re both equally bad. Both countries killed Jews, if that helps you decide. I’ve lived behind the iron curtain. Communism is bad. The Nazis were in power 12 years. The USSR died at age 74, and the satellite states had communism for over 40 years each after WW2. Both ideologies are terrible. But to not see communism as akin to Nazism and equal is just willful blindness. In terms of the dead though, it’s not even close. Communists have killed more humans than just about anyone else.
They never work because humans are human, the leaders somehow have to lack any greed and ambition, but also be highly proficent at their jobs with a sense of responsibility(most of which is good in any political system). Similarly, the people have to be content, hard working and lack ambition. Also you need to have no criminals.
That is correct humans are human and the nature of man is to labor in common to create a life and culture. Capitalism is merely a stage in history. It created the forces which it can not control. The world market and the men who will overthrow it the modern proletariat.
@Dr.Peterson good day Mr. Peterson , I have many friends and acquaintances who really want to listen to your lectures, but many people are not as familiar with the English language as others. Is there an option to also include German subtitles?
First of all, I don't think any big figure like Dr. Jordan Peterson would ever respond to millions of comments on thousands of UA-cam videos, that's just impossible. I think you can use AI to translate a youtube video
It's bizarre to me how many people fail to understand that Communism/Socialism/Fascism are basically the same thing but with a different coat of paint. In all three, the government holds supreme power and the people have virtually none. For those who think Socialism is better than the other two, I would direct your attention to the increasingly dictatorial behavior of both Canada and the EU. Totalitarian regimes ultimately all function the same, they just chant different things at their political rallies.
My step cousin is exactly the sort to say 'that wasn't true communism.' it's truly insane, and I wasted days trying to show her facts, but she - like many of these sorts - was blatantly ignorant.
There are many countries using a hybrid, and they are all more successful than any country bound to just one ideology. FDR was the first, but he wasn't the last, and many have gone further. From Australia to Norway, happier societies, less wealth inequality, and not talked about enough. Jordan refused to debate the notorious economics professor, and socialist Richard Wolff after openly challenging any socialist to debate him. It was scheduled, but Jordan cancelled because he said his fees went up and the university didn't want to pay his rate...
Stop using this argument. There is no hybrid here. Is a government that focus on national policy a hybrid of capitalism and nazism? No, it's not. Taking the "good" surface level stuff from communism and applying it in a capitalist society is not a hybrid, it's just the market and government adapting to improve the system. There is nothing to be attributed to communism or socialism in these advancements, because the ideology in question would destroy everything in front of it for the utopia. There only hybrids are the affirmative actions and other divisive programs based on "oppressed vs opressor" that the left started promoting lately. It's disgusting, toxic and evil.
Everyone knows Norway is an exception. They have tons and tons of extra cash from oil that makes it easier to pay for the extreme costs that socialism burdens a society with. Wealth inequality doesn't matter at all, all that matters is how much wealth the normal person has. The problem is that the government is bloated, expensive, and slow. It does everything less efficiently than companies do. (I have worked for the government, I know.) And at the end of the day, consolidating that much power to the government is just a bad idea. Usually ending in a death spiral. (all of south-America, Sweden in the 80's/90's, etc) There are better policies to pursue that free the markets to create more wealth for everyone.

Communism base lies in the working class NOT the bourgeois intellectuals. Afterall Communism is a movemnet The immediate aim of the Communists is the same as that of all other proletarian parties: formation of the proletariat into a class, overthrow of the bourgeois supremacy, conquest of political power by the proletariat. The theoretical conclusions of the Communists are in no way based on ideas or principles that have been invented, or discovered, by this or that would-be universal reformer. They merely express, in general terms, actual relations springing from an existing class struggle, from a historical movement going on under our very eyes. The abolition of existing property relations is not at all a distinctive feature of communism.

The difference in attitude towards Nazism vs Communism dates back to 1939. When WW2 began the view of Hitler was mainly positive, he was even Time Magazine's Man of the Year in 1938. Then it became necessary to portray him as an ogre and turn the people against Germany to prosecute the war and at the same time, to promote Stalin and Russia as heroes because they were our allies. Someone asked Churchill how he could suck up to Stalin after being an anti Communist all his life and replied, I would make an alliance with the devil himself to beat Hitler. Both threads, anti Nazi and pro Communism have gone on in the media and academia ever since. It's ironic that only since the collapse of the Soviet Union and liberalization of Red China have their monstrous crimes against humanity become public knowledge.
For the most nazism was painted very negative when it was clear how nazis officially treated humanity, with murdering people with disabilities, how they tortured prisoners of war and political opponents, how they ran their concentration camps and tried to murder Jews, gypsies and others. Yes communists did this too but it was not really implemented in their official policy, the result however was just as bad. Also you have the ultimate goals of communism which is "share the wealth" and everyone should be the same, have the same status etc. Whilst nazism had the mantra "the Aryans are superior". So very different but a huge paradox that the result of communism is actually much worse than the total damage of the nazis.

There is little more common than people excusing themselves by claiming that their “intention” was not evil, despite the fact that the outcomes were not only appalling, but inevitable.
Stephen Kotkin makes a compelling argument that Stalin's atrocities could not have been about lusting for power, because by then he already had total power. Stalin believed in an ideal and was indifferent to the evil outcomes which were inherent in it.

But the Nazis are hated more... because they Jews. It really is that simple. Communists targeted EVERYBODY!
The Soviet workers despite the traitorous leadership of Stalin still defeated the Era of Fascism.
I completely agree with you. Your articulation has actually help me.

The hierarchy of politics is lead in America by a real competent man right now...

Capitalism isn't perfect, but switching to communism is idiotic. Capitalism is the reason why you can type stupid shit on the internet. I say we copy the Scandinavian nations, capitalist economy with a few socialist policies here and there
My great uncle was both, first nzi, then communist. Both was equally equally hard to handle for him. No decider or soldier, he was a shoemaker in both systems.
East Germany?
One is a political party, the other is an ideology.

“ An ignorance of history so appalling that any political statement given on their behalf should be followed by paroxysms of embarrassment “ - well said by the good doctor

A hallmark of every utopia is a militant desire to put an end to history, to freeze mankind in a static state, to put an end to diversity and man's free will, and to order everyone's life in accordance with the utopian's totalitarian plan. Many early communists and socialists set forth their fixed utopias in great and absurd detail, determining the size of everyone's living quarters, the food they would eat, etc'.

@@freedomextremist7215 Crazy much?

Seeing national socialism as far worse than communism is not the case in Poland. People who remember war will rather tell you that the Soviets were far worse than the Germans. Western Europe saw in person nazism and fascism, but communism - not so much. In Poland, both are treated as equal by law. Promoting any of them is a crime with a jail penalty. It is included in the criminal code and constitution.

It's ironic that only since the collapse of the Soviet Union and liberalization of Red China have their monstrous crimes against humanity become public knowledge.
what do u mean 'liberilization' of red china? China was liberated in 1949 ans is still on a path of socialist construction

Depending how you define it, practically anybody can be a class enemy. There was an old joke in the Soviet Union about 3 workers in a factory, one was always late, he was arrested as a saboteur. Another was always early, he was arrested as a spy. Another was always on time, he was arrested as a black market trader, he had a German alarm clock.
For me as a German it's disturbing that you use the current German flag as a symbol for the Nazis instead of the former Nazi flag as video Thumbnail
Stimmt, aber das thumbnail representiert gut das heutige Deutschland. Ein Deutschland das der Meinung ist dass man immer und überall Staatintervention braucht.
You have what looks to be some strange green fascism going on in Germany currently.
Your virtuous politicians supporting a proxy war with a corrrupt, broke state and openly saying they dont care about the will of German people. Net zero accountability.
Outwardly it seems like you guys continue to be collectively punished for something current generation Germans had no hand in. Has a very soviet feel to that.
Hopefully you will all stay warm this winter.
That's UA-cam's fault. They want to censor history.
"it's disturbing" - it's much more fashionable (maybe more effective too) to say you're offended :)
All things have meanings.
I have witnessed the best intentions turn evil. Its inherent in human nature to turn
to your animal , in perceived crisis and away from soulful convictions. Yes Stalin was as bad or maybe worse than Hitler.
Knowing Stalin killed and starved millions of his own, not in war but simply
Lusting for power ,it places him in a league of his own. When Barbararosa
occured ,Stalin had assassinated so many top Generals the military was nearly defunct. The perceivable difference among students from Government schools lays in the fact they go to public schools. The definition between (kill) and (murder) is not made
Succinct by modern standards. Although I hold no enmity toward Russia and today is not 1920s/30s/40s one must
realize not delivering the Coup De Grace
is the substantial difference of good and evil.
I suggest that you need to clarify your argument.
The difference between good and evil is not intentions, but principles.
Stalin believed in an ideal and was indifferent to the evil outcomes which were inherent in it.
so Stalin nearly destoyed his military. if he asasinated all of his geenrals his Military wouldove been in dissarray and Hitler wouldove taken Russia
@@peterg76yt imagine the paranoia of a taken top spot such as Stalins, that in itself could drive murder.
@@bludeuce3855 .... The Russian military WAS in disarray. That is clearly demonstrated in their lack of success in the Winter War with Finland and their very great losses against Germany early in the German invasion, despite having nearly 12 months to prepare for a German invasion that they firmly believed would come eventually.

Dr. JP. You take on social issues from depth that really makes me think critically. Inviting not agreement necessarily, rather inviting deeper investigation. Be patient.
People forget that Nazis and communists were on the same side until Hitler decided that Stalin was a threat.

You think Communism is a walk in the park? It murdered 100 million people in the 20th century - way worse than Hitler.
definitely not. In 1960-1980 especially.
Why communism is seen as less serious than Nazism has to do with the amount of video material available to the population. About the famine in Ukraine and the horrors of the Soviet Union, there is little material, that has a direct effect on people's perception of the matter. That is from my point of view the answer.
My perception is the fact that one was purging Jews who according to the Bible is God's chosen people from whom the Messiah would come, and this touched hearts everywhere because at the time it was the dominating religion in the world. Contrast that to Stalin who was purging everyone who was against his political and social ideas; does not strike us as terrifying as Hitler killing the Jewish people. I may be wrong but it's an idea.
It's not that communism is as bad as nazism. It's worse and it always have been.
Nothing is worse than Nazism.
We are always navigating inherent human evil . Always .
Humans are not inherently evil. Anything that makes us human (separating us from animals) is a good thing. Cruelty is not a human attribute. Greed is not a human attribute. Civilisation is. Knowledge is. Morality is. Altruism is. The people who surrender to their animal nature inevitably become evil. Those who try their best to be humans will always be good.
@@PinkBroBlueRope why do humans have to be trained from birth to not be awful ? Why are there warehouses full of laws that no one can obey from the beginning of time ? Everyone lies , steals , cheats , gossips , deceives , self - serves , etc.. EVERYONE. That includes you and me.
We have entire industries dedicated to the attempt to manage human wickedness, and they quickly become corrupt when people find they can personally benefit. People screw each other over all the time - it’s the baseline. Now there is a group of elites who have decided they know what is best for humanity and they are using deceit , coercion , and murder to achieve their goals . There is not a shred of evidence that humans are inherently good . People can do good things - but we are never navigating human goodness .
@@nancybaumgartner6774 who teaches children to behave? Who creates laws? Who punishes immorality? If the answer to all three of these is "a human", then you cannot argue humanity is inherently evil. The story of our species is one of unhinging ourselves from nature and our animal side to rise to something higher - our humanity. Some of us can't control their urges, can't think beyond the moment, cannot consider the feelings of others. These people are less human than the rest of us, closer to the animals that we were before civilisation.
@@PinkBroBlueRope Who creates laws ? God does - and when people decide they themselves are “god”, societies plummet into lawlessness . The Judeo-Christian principles of what is right and what is wrong , based upon the Ten Commandments, has given us a long period of time reasonable , sane, and lawful living . While it’s been eroding for many years , it’s in a free - fall now .
Immorality and lawlessness are reigning supreme now , because people will always resist God and demand human will. That is the natural human condition .

Mark 7: 21- 23
“O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me (A)from this body of death? 25 (B)I thank God-through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.”

To me, raised up in Lithuania, at that time a Sovjet-occupied country, the Marxism-comunism symbols still feel more appalling, even compared to Nazi symbols. It just goes under the skin on a personal level. A disgusting ideology that starts in dark motives and ends in human suffering, no exceptions.
It's because we were allies with the Communists in WW II. We can't admit they were worse than the Nazis.
Capitalism despite being far from perfect built the world and continues to eradicate poverty.
Communism is equality for all including equality of outcome and they starved to death in their millions.
Anyone who can't get their head around that is beyond help.

as far as I know nazis werent lefties at all... also i find it a lil of a stretch to equal all left with communism: like for the right, a big part of it is more reasonable moderate people. (at least from my POV, i'm not in the US where the divide is big... over here (france) left or right makes basically no difference as long as you don't go to the extremes, same crap with just another logo on the party (which is its own issue, makes siding for one or the other feel meaningless).
