16 years married. The advice I have given over the years about your wedding day - take some time to look at yourself in your dress! I loved my dress soooo much, but didn't get a chance to appreciate it in the moment.
My husband and I planned everything together and we had the best time doing it. We agreed on everything and didn't have any conflicts. Married 17 years so far and loving every minute of it.
Yup. Wedding planner for 6 years. These are always part of my bride conversations. Big one though: Don’t just depend on signage or invitations! Ppl don’t read! Have your officiant, event staff, or planner (even better), communicate with guests in person!!
Ugh at my wedding in 1994 my husband’s usher played a dumb prank. He brought into the reception a ball and chain. He expected ME to put in on MY husband. When I told my husband I would not do that we had our first hubby and wife minor bickering during the cake cutting ceremony. To this day this gets brought up. Luckily we are still married all these years later.
We did a private dinner for our wedding but at the same time the guests ate dinner. Never heard of eating before the reception like that, so smart. I wish we did that instead!!! What a great idea!!! Although it was nice for us to get to eat by ourselves uninterrupted, I felt like we missed extra time with guests and stuff. Agree wedding planner/day of planner is a must!!! Also, we didn’t even do the bouquet toss 😂 But absolutely, the main thing for planning a wedding y’all... definitely just do you and you’ll have the best day ever. Congratulations India!!
I will put this out there - I had two photographers at my ceremony and even with that I LOVE some of the photos people got with their own phones and cameras. And I was so locked in on my groom from the second I started down the isle that every single person there faded away and I didn’t even notice when people were taking photos. And I’m really glad I have some of those photos because now I have some from all angles! Just an alternate perspective and experience 😊
My tip: you may need help going to the bathroom, especially if you have a floofy/big/complicated dress. I had a specific movie-themed wedding in 2004, and my dress was huge. I needed a bathroom helper! There was no way I could do it on my own! 😀😀
@@indiabatson26 Gone With The Wind! (I know it can be a problematic movie for some, but I'm a classic film buff, and enjoy the vintage aesthetics, not the vintage values!) literally today my sister & I we’re talking about how the garter tradition is so weird 😂 we looked it up & the origin of it, “The origin of the garter toss at weddings derives from a 14th-century tradition in France. Back then, the bride and groom had to show proof of consummating the marriage after the wedding night. The friends and family of the couple would stay in the room and obtain the wedding garter as ‘proof’ of the consummation.” FOR REAL 😳 no thanks
wow thanks for sharing. definitely some traditions don't need to stick around. some thing I don't want to do is like a crazy sexual bachelorette party, garter toss, and I wouldn't want a wedding cake, totally not a cake person.
My husband SAID he didn't care what I chose, so I would choose what I thought was best, and then AFTER I chose he would say, "Oh, that's what the invitations look like?" HA I would have rather had him TRULY not care, instead of TELL me he trusted me and THEN have opinions after the checks had been cashed!! Haha, I still tease him about this 6 years later :)
@@indiabatson26 Then he remarried me 2 more times.... hahahahah the last on our 20th wedding anniversary.... ! ( no divorce, the man just loves to marry me) hahahahah
LOVE the idea about eating between pictures and reception! Will keep that tip in my back pocket for any of my engaged friends. But please, PLEASE, be sure that your guests have some kind of food during this time or there is a time listed when the reception will begin so they aren't starving too. I have been to a few weddings that reception is listed "immediately following ceremony" and the wedding party doesn't get there for an hour and there is NO food.
One of the things that my sister wishes she had known is that just because she waited for marriage doesn’t mean she had to do it on her wedding day. My sister couldn’t get comfortable until about a few days into her honeymoon in order to have “it” and she said it was so much better than rushing it just because she finally was able to.
The first advice I always give someone before their wedding day is to eat whenever they see food. Maybe tell their maid of honour/best man to remind them they have to eat. I haven't eaten a thing on my wedding day for about 12 hours. There was just too much going on and I totally forgot to eat. It was not fun once I started feeling light headed :D
I’m getting married in 2 weeks. I was supposed to get married January 2nd with the big wedding and reception but a lot of my fiancé’s family not being able to be there (his parents and brothers) then my sister (maid of honor) said that her commander told her she had to be back in Florida by the 1st AT THE LATEST. My fiancé is also military and has been out of town while all of this news was coming. So I had to quickly drop my expectations and make quick decisions. My tip: Remember that the goal isn’t the wedding. The goal is the marriage so even if you have to scrap your whole wedding and do a small marriage ceremony like me, it’s okay!!! You still get to marry him!!
I just told my boyfriend on the phone that I had to go because I'm doing a girl's night with India haha! You're too fun!! Thanks for the tips, they were so helpful and you're hysterical as always!! Your wedding pics are BEAUTIFUL!!!
You’re WAYYY more patient than me - I would be SO mad if my bridesmaids made me late because they decided they wanted their hair and makeup done last minute! 🤦🏻♀️ Girl, no, this is my one day!!!
I love this video!! Girl....the unplugged thing....I was so worried about that. I had seen pictures where the bride or groom's face was blocked by an iPad in the aisle of a guest trying to get a picture of the bride walking down. I did not want that because you can't just like go back and get that picture. The moment is gone. I put unplugged wording everywhere. It was on our website, programs and we had a sign. Our guests did very well thank goodness. I'm so glad you had the time of your lives!! Congrats!! And as a recently married woman, these tips are awesome! Everyone who is engaged, listen to them!
Those tips feel like they'd work in the marriage, too! My tip-elope! Just us & our parents. 41 yrs & we're doing quarantine together. Plus, I don't have a lifetime of weddings & showers I can't get out of! Glad you got the day you dreamed of. You deserve it!
Got married 10 years ago and still going strong! We had a pretty tight budget so my family and I made a lot of our stuff. Invitations, favors, centerpieces, programs, guest book, decorations..... I'm so thankful for all the help because I'm pretty sure we had around 120 ppl ish. My aunts even helped out by making the food! I wish I had thought about Polaroids for the guest book back then. I love the trend. I do remember my dad rushing me out the door and I didn't even have my corset on yet so I had 2 bridesmaids trying to quickly put it on me. 🤦♀️ Like dad! Calm down, it's not like it can start without me!
At my wedding I don’t think I ate, was so busy with everything and no time to sit and relax! You know mingeling, dancing 🕺💃🏼. Yes... so many minor details to consider. Being present is so important to take everything in👩❤️👨
OH my gosh I second ALL OF THESE! I’d also add, only have brides maids that you pick and want- I had two girls that were my hubby’s friends and that was a MISTAKE- they don’t care like your own girls do.
I had my maid of honor took care of the place of the wedding planner and we did a time line going backwards from the end of the wedding to getting ready. And that helped so much for figuring out how long we needed for taking pictures to making sure we had enough time for everything.
I’m planning my wedding and getting married in 2021! Some of these tips were so useful especially about asking for help! I’m totally a type A need to plan everything on my own but you’re so right planning a wedding is no joke! Thank you for this! 🥰❤️
I learned to ask for help after having my second baby! You go girl for recognizing it sooner! :) It really does bond your relationships when you let others help and it gives you a chance to catch your breath. I've so been there. Congratulations on many wonderful and happy years ahead!!
Omg I planned my whole wedding. I recommend if u enjoy planning to make a google doc. Then make emergency contacts, schedule, essential items list, seating chart, and your court list of names. Then just add on to the list. If ur broke like me get two trusted family members and ask them to help keep everything on schedule.
Thanks for the advice! The biggest one I needed to hear is not having expectations in the a fiance will be excited to pick out everything. This happened in the beginning of my wedding planning with my fiance not being enthusiastic about flowers. It does make sense now that not everything is going to be an interest. My wedding was supposed to be next month but rescheduled to next Summer. So all the advice is helpful! So thank you! Also you are a wonderful youtuber and seem so genuine.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm currently planning my wedding and it has been overwhelming for sure. Love your tip about not expecting too much from hubby-to-be. I've tasked mine with very little but tour venues with me has been a must! I hope you make more of these and congratulations on your marriage!
YES - eat by yourselves before you go in! Also, get the staff to box you up some leftovers for later (and tell your MOH to make sure they make it in the getaway car)
Bridesmaid dress colors were one of the only things my husband was really adament about 😂 My childhood dreams of soft pink dresses we're quickly squashed..but we still had a lovely wedding and we're very happily married 3.5 years later!
My husband's favorite colors were our wedding colors -- black and purple with silver accents. We did black bridesmaid dresses in styles my bridesmaids chose themselves. They still wear them. I wish I'd been bold enough to use orange, my favorite, in our theme. Don't regret using his favorites though. 14 years later, I still adore him and those colors have grown on me since the moment I knew he was the one.
I would love to hear about your honeymoon/wedding night. I know it’s something really personal to talk about, but I would really appreciate to hear the whole experience and just the first few days being married. 🥳
Absolutely LOVED ❤️this video ( been looking forward to it for a LONGGGGGGGGG time)! Thank you for recommending a day of coordinator, something I’m planning to incorporate into my wedding. Your videos are GOLD India! Thank you again. You are for sure one of my favorite UA-camrs! All of this advice was super helpful. I hope you make more wedding related content! 😉👰🏻🤵🏻
I’m planning my wedding that’s happening in May and I’m ready to pull my hair out lol. I just found out that most wedding dress boutiques want a grace period of 6 months so that they can order your dress and get it back to you in time 🤦🏻♀️ also, I found your video super helpful. 🤍 thank you!
Currently engaged! We were lucky enough to find and book an all-inclusive venue for a reasonable price. We only need to provide our own photographer, officiant, personal flowers, and alcohol; everything else is included, even a day of coordinator. Such a weight off my shoulders. I just don’t want my engagement to be so stressful and I don’t have time to DIY.
it's so interesting some men definitely have opinions! mine has been very involved in choosing vendors and deciding on things last minute. depends on the person, and it's nice to rely on your partner for input over others that might not have your best interests at heart.
My tip is get the wedding dress that you want and not the wedding dress that makes your mother-in-law or your mother cry. I didn’t do that. I fell in love with the dress I loved it and nobody cried. I tried on this other dress that I didn’t like so much and my mother-in-law cried that’s the dress I went with and I regret it to this day nine years later
I think I’d want something very simple. There’s a church up the street that my parents and grandparents got married in, and I always thought that was charming. I think I’d only invite my closest friends and family, and then have a big party afterwards 😀
I LOVED organising my wedding, I'm freakishly organised so I enjoyed the whole process. But you are right as much as I was organised things go wrong, it's just how things are and a learning curve. X
I also loved organizing my wedding, but it helped a ton that my brother worked as our MC with a list from me. It kept me from having to watch the clock and announce the next thing.
Currently engaged and honestly enjoying the process! ❤️ The only thing that was a little stressful was finding the right venue for the right price haha. But God always provides ❤️
You are adorable. This year will be our 40th anniversary and my best tips are: 1. Don't stress (neccesary are YOU, FIANCE, OFFICIANT, LICENSE - so whatever you wear, eat etc. will be just fine in the long run) 2. Eat before (I waited until the end of the reception because I was so busy talking to everyone who came, the only thing left was a strawberry, so we wound up ordering pizza after the reception) 3. Keep your sense of humor (we spent our wedding night sleeping in a random motel room with the wedding party sleeping on the floor with us - its a very long story - but now even I laugh about it)
My best wedding advice is to just ELOPE! I’m kidding. But I’m serious. My wedding turned out fine, but eloping would have saved me so much anxiety and stress. I ended up having the smallest wedding possible, but it was still stress inducing.
Hi girl... My husband and I had a small group of people watched us get married. We lived in a town ,we asked the mayor to marry us outside in the canopy that had flowers in baskets hanging. We had our wedding reception the following Saturday At a church. My husband , are children and i had to get ready and dressed at the church. We didnt have no electric at our house the electric company was working in our area. The church had a kitchen a room we gathered in . Cooked meatloaf and tender loin... it was nice with group of friends and some family to fet together❤
My wedding advise is no speeches. the only speech at my wedding was my husband and I thanking everyone. they are long, and usually full of inside jokes that no one gets and 90% of your guests probably don't care. When we went up to say thank you and told our guests there were no other speeches that evening we were applauded. Ive been married for 3 and a half years now and people still talk about how it was so nice to not have to listen to speeches. 100% do what you want it's your day but it is nice to consider what your guests may like when planning certain aspects.
My officiant asked everyone to keep devices put away for our ceremony, but some people STILL had their phones out taking pictures!! Excuse you, you aren't special! Luckily I didn't know until I saw pictures pop up later so it didn't get to me. Love hearing all about your special day :)
We didn't do the garder either. I forgot how you spell it. I also decided to have fun & enjoy. I spoke to my guests as they were leaving. Didn't want to go from table to table all night.
If I'd thought about just how likely it was that my garter would be caught by a 5 year old boy, we wouldn't have either. Fortunately, my brother nabbed it from the kiddo and returned it to us.
Totally wish a day-of-coordinator would have been in our budget 😅 our wedding day was also, the greatest day of my life BUT it was kind of a mess. Definitely would have done some things different. It’s okay though! We’re happily married now 🥰
I’m honestly thinking I may just go to a salon alone in the morning to get my hair and makeup done and then meeting with my bridesmaids where they just do their hair in simple curls and do their own makeup. That way my hair and makeup is done, a hair or makeup lady wouldnt be around them tempting them to get their hair or makeup done and everything would run smoother. We could also bond with helping each other with hair and makeup too. Saves time and stress for me and everyone can feel comfortable with hair and makeup they actually like because half the time people end up hating their hair or makeup they paid for anyways. I have stood up in so many wedding and have seen it happen each time, then you just wasted a ton of time and you hear a ton of complaints about how people hate their hair that they paid for.
I have never seen eyes so piercing in my entire life. I’m watching this video because your eyes are SO captivating and cool. I’m black but I want a pair
Hi! My friend wants to know about the bridesmaids and groomsmen sending out their invitations. She assumes that you can't send both the invitation and the address to where you want your (party) to buy their dresses and suits. She assumes you would have to wait for a replay back from your party. Then you can send out the addresses? Yes or No
Honestly, don't worry about the little things on your wedding day. If something doesn't go as you planned, you and your fiance are probably the only ones who will notice and the worry isn't worth it.
Am I engaged? No
Am I in a relationship? No
But was this video helpful? Yes, 100%
Always good to plan. You never know what’s around the corner for you 😊

it's so interesting some men definitely have opinions! mine has been very involved in choosing vendors and deciding on things last minute. depends on the person, and it's nice to rely on your partner for input over others that might not have your best interests at heart.
This was so helpful! I am getting married next year in March and this really helps with the planning. I am so excited yet nervous 🤣🤣
Queen of everything 🙌❤ I always look forward to your videos! Congratulations on getting married, you looked absolutely stunning as always!
you are literally the sweetest !! XOXOXO
You are adorable.
This year will be our 40th anniversary and my best tips are:
1. Don't stress (neccesary are YOU, FIANCE, OFFICIANT, LICENSE - so whatever you wear, eat etc. will be just fine in the long run)
2. Eat before (I waited until the end of the reception because I was so busy talking to everyone who came, the only thing left was a strawberry, so we wound up ordering pizza after the reception)
3. Keep your sense of humor (we spent our wedding night sleeping in a random motel room with the wedding party sleeping on the floor with us - its a very long story - but now even I laugh about it)
Beautiful hair and makeup
awww, thank you angel XOXO
NEEDED this video.😍
awww so glad it's helpful!!! let me know if you have any quetions
Wish I knew about “unplugging” 39 years ago. My cousin was in the aisle at the church with a camera & her big pink dress is in the whole video!
This is a great video! I’m glad you had such a wonderful wedding-the pictures look amazing! 😍😍
Yas queen! Also this is so helpful and your pictures are amaz🤗
awwwww, thank you so much sweet babe!!!!
Thank you for sharing, India!!! I’m probably not getting married anytime soon, but good tips!!!!
I just found your channel and OMG GIRL!! I freaking loveee your personality! Subscribed!
My officiant asked everyone to keep devices put away for our ceremony, but some people STILL had their phones out taking pictures!! Excuse you, you aren't special! Luckily I didn't know until I saw pictures pop up later so it didn't get to me. Love hearing all about your special day :)
my favorite wedding I've gone to had Lucille's BBQ catered, and I loved that way more that and fancy food.
Fortunately, my brother nabbed it from the kiddo and returned it to us.
this was awesome!!! I not getting married anytime soon...but when i do these tips will be implemented!
I love this!!!! My wedding is next year and I am learning sooooo much. I need all the help I can get.

Totally wish a day-of-coordinator would have been in our budget 😅 our wedding day was also, the greatest day of my life BUT it was kind of a mess. Definitely would have done some things different. It’s okay though! We’re happily married now 🥰

First time here. You have the most fun personality ever!
so happy for you girl!! love seeing you bright & happy 💛💛 (prayers for your knee btw)
This was so helpful!! I’m getting married in 3 weeks and founds this amazing 👰🏼🤍
Awwww yay!!!! CONGRATS IT WILL BE THE BEWT DAY OF YOUR LIFE BABE
OMGawd I love your spirit & you had me cracking up! Wonderful vibe! And thanks for the advice!!!!
Your making me exited about marriage already 😂😂
I'm saving this in at least five different places because this is gonna be SO helpful one day!!! No idea what the garter thing even is though lol
I have never seen eyes so piercing in my entire life. I’m watching this video because your eyes are SO captivating and cool. I’m black but I want a pair
Fantastic advice, God bless your marriage 🎊 😊
I'm single as a pringle, but this was definitely helpful lol!
Hi! My friend wants to know about the bridesmaids and groomsmen sending out their invitations. She assumes that you can't send both the invitation and the address to where you want your (party) to buy their dresses and suits. She assumes you would have to wait for a replay back from your party. Then you can send out the addresses? Yes or No
Ahhhhh thank you! Getting married this weekend💕👰🏼 Love you India and congratulations on your new marriage❣️
Hey girl! Great video! Love ya!😊💕
I’m getting married next month hope it goes the why I planned it and thank you girl will keep your tips on mind:)
I've been married so long I don't even remember my wedding day.
Honestly, don't worry about the little things on your wedding day. If something doesn't go as you planned, you and your fiance are probably the only ones who will notice and the worry isn't worth it.
I clicked this video on accident but as soon as I heard you talking I was like “yup I’m watching this” 💀🙌
Really enjoyed this, thanks so much for sharing!!!
Don’t stress. Whatever is going to happen the day of is going to happen no matter how stressed you are so you might as well enjoy it!
Any tips on planning a wedding during covid-19 pandemic?
