    The world is such a crazy place right now. There’s so much negativity, conflict, struggle, suffering and uncertainty. It’s really nice to watch something pure like 2 brothers building something together and sharing lots of love and happy stories. Honestly, we all need more of this. It’s nice to see that amidst the insanity are pockets of simplicity (in a good way) and joy.

    I’m here on just a lazy day . Did a little yard work, came in and sat down with a glass of cold water and hit you tube. Oh wow! I’m so glad I saw your vide, Devin. You crying makes me cry! I am so happy for you all! What a wonderful story. I’m hooked! Question. Did y’all grow up in the same state? Did you move to Texas permanently? Can you tell us what you do for a living.? God bless all of you!!

      Thanks for the kind words, Karen! We all grew up in TX, but I was living in NY when I found my birth family. I moved back to TX pretty quickly after finding them. I'm an energy broker now. Thanks again!

You are so much alike and I can feel the love and appreciation you have for each other. Just finished watching your video , Devin, where you share about finding your biological family. You two brothers have so MANY similarities, you have the same mannerisms and truly look and sound like brothers! You seem like you've always been together! It's so neat to watch your story unfold, and this is real, not some staged story like they do in a TV series! Looking forward to seeing more of your story. Thanks for sharing with us. 😄

    Always enjoy your story time portions of your videos. So glad you both decided to start this channel and share the story of Devon being adopted and how you came back together as a family. As you mentioned in another video I think the void in your lives when you didn't have each other, makes this time in your lives all the more special. Don't know if you both ever looked into the Live streaming feature on You Tube but it would be great if you could both go live so that your subscribers could interact with you both. Wishing you and your families all the best as you experience life as brothers.

      Just noticed that you have done 2 Livestreams so hopefully you will do more in the future. I should have checked before making it part of the comment above.

    • @OurNewLand

      Thank you for the kind words, Ben. This has been an amazing journey for all involved. We will be increasing the number of adoption videos we post, including two that will come out in the next six weeks or so.
      We tried Livestreams a couple of times, but it was more of us just screwing around. We've been interviewed on the Lives of other channels, but they didn't delve into the adoption side of our channel's story very deeply. They mainly focused on our plans for the property.
      Now that our channel is starting to gain a little traction from the adoption side, maybe we should think about scheduling a Livestream that focuses 100% on that issue. We both love taking questions, and the introspection the conversations bring about are very beneficial.
      Thanks again for your interest. We have a video coming out tomorrow that touches on two upcoming adoption videos, so keep an eye out for it. Take care.

    As an adoptive mother I've gotta ask, how is your relationship with your adoptive parents now?

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  Рік тому +15

      Great question. My dad died a couple of months before I found my biological family. I haven't had a great relationship with my (adoptive) mom since my early teens. Ironically, finding my birth family actually drew my mom and I closer for several years, as I made an effort to make sure she knew her spot as Mom wasn't going to be replaced. But I eventually went back to my old stand-offish ways towards her, but it had nothing to do with the biological family reunion. She's been a huge supporter of the entire situation, and always asks how everyone is doing. She asks about each one individually (brother, sister, mother, father), and she truly cares about their wellbeing. Thanks for asking! Feel free to ask anything!! You and Greg are awesome!

      This part of your story saddens me. It's always risky when people search for their birth families as no one wants to hurt anybody. It's difficult enough under good circumstances, the searcher is always faced with the possibility of being rejected, etc...In life we just want the best for everyone, including ourselves. You are a family of strength and courage to seek answers. No easy task. I wish you all you seek. 🙏

    • @jmk1962
      @jmk1962 Рік тому +4

      I'm both an adoptee and an adopter and I think I can see it from both sides.
      Some adoptees have a HUGE desire to know where they came from and some don't and are happy not knowing.
      I think it's when you get older you start to think about it more, usually after you become a parent yourself and that starts you thinking about your birth parents more, but often it's not until your adoptive parents have passed away that you become an "orphan" and you start to think about your birth parents and wondering if you have half siblings etc.
      A lot of adoptees do their search in secret for fear of upsetting their adoptive parents in case they think they weren't good enough or something, but usually it is not the case at all because IMO, my adoptive parents are, and always will be mum and dad as they were the people who loved me and brought me up from 3 weeks old.
      Finding my birth family is more about that final piece in the jigsaw to fill in the missing pieces. Every child birth or adopted wants to know who created them, or gave birth to them, or what they look like, where their ancestors come from, it's a natural thing to be curious about and my advice to any adoptive parents out there is to be open with your adopted kids. Be honest from the beginning from as young as possible, as I know not all adoptees have great, loving, secure backgrounds, but whatever the story, talking about it and being honest and letting your child know they can always talk to you about their 'other family' is always the best way to go and if they know you are open to discussion or to help them find out more, then that is a huge help and relief to them because they the don't feel they have to do their search in secret and can involve their adoptive parents in the search and hopefully reunion.
      Finding your birth family doesn't replace the love you have for your adoptive family, in fact in can increase it, because its not always a happy reunion as in Devon's case and sometimes adoptees can get really hurt and feel rejected by their birth families and need their adoptive family even more when it doesn't end well.
      Think about it as the adoptee extending their family and not replacing their family and always remember it wasn't their choice to be adopted or separated from their family in the first place, others made that decision for them.

    Your story is beautiful. As a grandmother, my question is should I include ALL of the children into my will? How would the bio children feel having their inheritance split with a new sibling? Might be a silly question, but I'm sure it enters people's minds from time to time.

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  Рік тому +1

      Thank you very much for your kind words! As to your question, I would have to say each to their own on that one. I guess you would need to weigh a few items to find your answer. Is the adopted child getting an inheritance from their adopted parents? How will it make the adopted child feel if excluded? How would the other children feel if their share is split? How is the financial "need" balanced between all. It's a tough question, for sure. The fact that you are asking shows that you feel for all involved in your family. I'm sure you'll find a good way through the issue. Thanks again!

    My Mom was adopted. Her story is not as amazing as yours as she promised her adoptive mother that she wouldnt do any search until her death. Grams lived to 94. So by then most all of the birth family was dead. It was not a fun search. I am anxious to know why you bought the land together--are you both married now or?

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  Рік тому +2

      Hey there, B! I'm sorry it took us so long to respond to your comment. YT put it the Held For Review camp for some reason.
      We are both married now, and we each have two kids. Unbeknownst to each other, we were both looking for land to buy individually. The topic came up during a phone call, and we were like, "Let's buy a piece together!" We both loved the idea, and we were able to buy a larger piece of property.
      We wanted to buy raw land to give our kids experiences they were not getting while living in a big city. Growing up, Devon spent quite a bit of time on his adoptive family's farms, while Ryan spent time at his/our grandparents farm. We both grew up hunting and fishing. We wanted our kids to learn skills that we had been taught by our grandparents. We also wanted to slowly develop the property to become self-sufficient. We have food plots planted, are in the process of building a rainwater catchment system, have two solar setups in place, and plan on adding a large trophy bass pond.
      Thank you for your question, and thank you very much for sharing your story!
