    You're the only natural youtuber I actually really really trust. And plus you're Nigerian which helps because I'm Liberian. Idk I just find it easier to trust Africans. You just seem like a normal person and not someone who's faking everything for views. AND you're funny. AND you're 4c. Girlll....

      Michelle Nesbith-Sykes: wash/condition and rinse your hair in big chunky twists section by section really helps ALOT. Detangle when u pre-poo just as in the video. if u r not doing that already u need to start. makes your life so much better. I don't know what styles u like but I find mini twisting my hair after washing is so easy and my hair loves it. I like twist outs on my short hair. . but being that yr hair is long u could also turn your twists into an updo which lasts a week or more. I've learnt to make my wash day as easy and enjoyable as possible.

    • @Sunkissed_Michelle
      @Sunkissed_Michelle 7 років тому +3

      I finger detangle in the shower. That is what takes the most time because I have to be gentle. I'm just getting lazy with my hair. School and all taking up my time.

    Hey My Loves,
    *Key points not mentioned in video*
    I hope you enjoy this video. I discuss what I think are the basic steps that should be included into a wash day. Feel free to modify as needed for your hair. These are suggestions that you can use for your wash day. I added time stamps in the description box if you need to jumps to certain sections.
    After each step I do rinse. So I do rinse with lukewarm after steps 1 to 4. While doing step 4 I use lukewarm water after I am done with it I finish with a tea rinse (washday booster) and then final rinse that out with lukewarm to cool water. I dont do cold water rinses it doesn't work well on my low porosity hair because low porosity already has lowered cuticles.
    I let my hair air dry to about 80% then I loc.
    When it comes to wash day its more about the steps you do and the technique you use to do it. Its not so much about the products. You could have a wash day with cheap products like V05 shampoo/conditioner or Suave Shampoo/conditioner and be on your happy way. Or you can use products that are more rich and natural that is fine as well!!
    Just make sure whatever you use do with the technique and order for your hair thrives!!!
    xoxoxo

    At first I thought pre-pooing was a joke/waste of time and product. However, after trying it just ONCE my wash day shedding/breaking hair went from clogging the drain to barely noticeable! I'm a believer!
    Also, as far as moisturizing, I have found that I have to use my heat cap after I put on my glycerin in order for the moisture to last several days. If i don't then it's like I didn't put anything on...yes, I have low porosity hair.

    Pre poo/hot oil treatment
    Shampoo (sometimes I add ACV after shampooing just to get that extra oomf)
    Rinse out conditioner (to detangle)
    Deep conditioner
    Moisture/seal and style
    Simple and short!

    I mastered a simple wash day. Not a day at all! Prepoo with aloe vera, oils and herbs overnight. That detangles the hair. Next day: wash, deep condition. Wash in twists and by using good products hair comes out detangled. Then LOC and style. Easy!

    • @4evrblssd
      @4evrblssd 7 років тому

      Anne El what herbs do you use to pre-poo?.. do you blend the aloe vera straight from the plant to ypur oil and herb mixture?

    • @anneel8115
      @anneel8115 7 років тому +2

      4evrblssd i use Lily of the desert ' s Aloe Vera gel because it's what i usually have on hand. When i started I would mix the gel with amla and fenugreek powder, castor and neem oil. that is still the base i use but at times will add brahmi, shikakai, onion juice, ACV. I want to try to use hibiscus powder also. So you see, i play with it, but just using the base mix gives me great results.

    I shampoo, then deep condition and then use my rinse out conditioner. I feel like the dc penetrates better when there is no layer on the hair from the rinse out conditioner, and after deep conditioning I use a rinse out conditioner because I feel like it smoothes the cuticle a bit more and I've always done it like this.

    • @doThatGWalk
      @doThatGWalk 7 років тому +4

      DCs tend to not have silicones while rinse outs do so that could be another reason.

  • @kavansakayenook6749

    My hair is just like yours with a super soft curl added into the mix. I identify with everything you speak about with 4c hair. My wash day involves month old hair that is full of products like coconut/honey hair creme, mineral/mixed blend olive oil and all the other moisturizing products that keeps my hair from smelling. Okay - then washday consists of a black soap cucumber bar, rinse with plaits still in, that coconut/honey creme, reband plaits for stretching, make neat, cover with a satin type scarf, and let air dry!!

    I loved this so much. My hair is the same, so it tangles when I blink....wrap around kinks and curls. With all that said, I don't pre-poo anymore. I detangle in the shower before I wash. I never thought I'd be that girl, but it works and saves time. I do everything else out of the shower & twist it up in the end.

      Mel S that's a great idea! There are a lot of videos about gorgeous hairstyles but the "maintenance through the week" part is often missing. I just recently found a weekly routine that works for me and I did not see it on YT. I usually see women who don't add anything to their hair for an entire week (=hair dry as a freaking desert for me) or women who retwist their hair mid-week after moisturizing it or worse every night (=way too time consuming and too much manipulation for me)

  • @PatternmakerNYC

    You are officially my captain save a curl. My 39 years on this earth my hair has never felt nourished until today my second round of pre pooping. Last week It was a solid effort but I messed up a few steps now this week I know better and I have ALL the appropriate products. It is like I'm putting my fingers in someone else's scalp. ZERO tangles ZERO breakage. I think I lost a hair. I'm so happy I could cry. I did a few things per your suggestion in other videos for moisturizing

  • @mimiluau
    @mimiluau 7 років тому +6

    My washday routine is similar to your except I DC a lot shorter than you do. I used to D.C. for hours like the natural hair community recommends but then I have really fine 4c hair and my hair would get overly soft and mushy and breakage prone. Now I D.C. for no longer than 15minutes and I think my hair likes that a lot better and feels a lot more resilient on wash day. My washday routine is that I prepoo always with an oil (thanks for putting me on to that) and I wear a shower cap and let the oil marinade for a bit, then I detangle because my super fine hair is not down with manipulation when wet, then i shampoo loose hair and deep condition in large twists, rinse, t-shirt dry, then moisturizer and seal and airdry. I'm going to try the oil before t-shirt drying thing you said.

    Thanks for another great video NappyFu!! It was so fun and informative that I didn't mind the length :) I used to hate wash days but now that I have a solid regimen I LOVE it! My wash routine is: pre-poo, finger detangle, shampoo with scalp brush, detangle with denman brush when rinsing out shampoo, tea or oil rinse (but I don't rinse it out yet), deep condition (that's when I rinse everything out), spray my hair with my water and aloe vera juice mix, t-shirt dry, then LOC and style. I like the idea of putting oil on my hair before the t-shirt for protection. I'm also going to try using lukewarm water instead of cold after my DC since I have low porosity hair and see if that makes a difference. The only thing I haven't done yet is get a hooded dryer for my DC. I just put on a plastic shower cap and wrap a towel around it to generate heat. Sorry this comment is so long - I hope it helps someone!

    My wash day:
    1. I prepoo by rubbing raw aloe vera plant on my scalp and sweet almond oil on my hair.
    2. I wash with a clarifying shampoo the next day
    3 I finger detangle in the shower with conditioner
    4. I use a deep conditioner
    5. Then LOC and style and air dry. I've never dried my hair before LOC. Will try that.
    About to try ayurvedic again: mixing henna, amla and shakakai in olive oil, leave it overnight mixed in my deep conditioner. I stopped because of laziness...but my hair thrived when I did it in the past.

    Great vid!!!! Very informative. I wouldn't call my wash day simple but nevertheless these are my steps. 1) Pre-poo with coconut oil & vitamin e oil + peppermint oil on my scalp overnight (I also do some finger detangling) 2) Shampoo 3) Condition with a conditioner and oil mixture (i use this time to do my detangling) 4) Deep conditioning 5) LOC/LCO method. throughout the process i keep my hair in twists.

    NEW SUBBIE!!! because we have the same exact hair texture, I trust that I can't go wrong with your helpful tips. Without realizing it, before I found your channel, I did the same exact steps yesterday, that you've provided, and I must tell you, my hair thanked me so much, it is my new wash day routine! Thank you ! You're a hair saver lol

    Since I do quite a bit of pro-styles I enjoy wash day. It allows me to "play" in my hair. My wash day is fairly simple: Shampoo; protein/DC;Detangle; LCO; blow dry (air drying gets me sick, sinus issues. My hair likes simplicity and has been thriving from it.

    From one Naija sister to another, I just dey gbadun your Naija accent o! It's one of the reasons I keep coming back to your channel, lol. Thanks for this: just decided to commit to a weekly wash routine after months of neglect and hair breakage (my Mom was sick so I couldn't be bothered to take care of myself: Thank God, she's fine now!). Your video, as always, is really handy and will be a very useful resource to restoring my hair. Thank you so much!

    Hello Nappyfu, this is to say thank you for all your advices. I have experienced the does on wash day and it was waou. For the first time since 2013 that I am back to natural, I lost a QUATER of what I used to lost. I am trying to respect this routine since 4 months only. I tried twice the wash n go, they were waou. I experienced finger detangling too. Wonderful !
    I can follow someone who has the same type of hair than me.
    THANKS AND THANKS.

    Great detailed video as usual. One correction! > Coarse is the texture (how rough ones hair is) not thickness. Thick is the size of the strand. Density is the volume. I have coarse AND semi-thick hair. Which again, means that I have fairly rough & dry hair when I run my finger down the shaft. I know ur very knowledgeable abt hair just be careful what certain terms truly mean.

    Because of your tips in a video I think from last year - I do everything you do. My hair has thrived. I have recently switched to LCO instead of LOC and I do see the difference. I think on Saturday - my dreaded wash day - yes I still don't love wash day - I am going to try LCOB. I will then go into a kinky twist protective style for a few weeks. We will see how it goes. Thank you again.

    I love washing my hair, I usually wash twice a week. I usually don't prepoo. I shampoo twice usually with selsun blue, then condition or deep condition. I alternate with the Giovanni deep moisture conditioner, various Shea moisture masks, and mane n tail original formula. Then I style. If I do a wash n go, I put on a leave in and a little olive oil and add gel. If I do a braid/twist out I let my hair dry in chunky twists and style about an hour later. My naked hair doesn't take long to dry at all.

    I was with either bentonite clay or shampoo, detangle with a rinse out conditioner, warm up my deep conditioner on the stove ( I recently discovered that warm water and warm products penetraate my hair so much better because of my low porosity), let sit for about 45 minutes then rinse with warm water. From there I do the LOC or LCO and proceed with my day!

    I have a tapered TWA so fortunately, I have a wash routine not a wash day looool. Step 1/ I prepoo my hair the night before with coconut oil (Coconut oil is supposed to take 14hours to penetrate the hair). Step 2/ I clean my scalp with shampoo or rhassoul clay (I let the rhassoul sit for a few minutes on my hair to mzke it as effective as a shampoo). Step 3/ I apply some heavy oil (castor, palm) then my conditioner (I don't like the way my hair feel when I just apply conditioner that's why I add oils). Step 4/ I detangle with finger combing first then using a regular wide-tooth comb to remove shed hair (I'm VERY gentle during that step cuz I have SUPER fine hair. Before, I only used my fingers but my hair was always SUPER tangled). Step 5/ I put a plastic cap and let my hair marinate with the conditioner. Step 6/After rinsing my condtioner I moisturize my hair, twist it and put my satin scarf until my hair is dry (If i don't put my satin scarf right after moisturizing it gets dry and frizzy.)

    It's easy, peasy, beautiful natural girl. haHA! My wash day does not always start with prepoo, I don't really notice a difference, so I do it sometimes. I shampoo, deep condition for that moisture, then rinse out condition for detangling, then I LOC and let air dry. Same steps just shuffled a little bit.

    I suffer from osteo- and psoriatic arthritis in all my joints, so wash day has to be a 2 day process for me. Day 1 starts with my pre-poo and detangling session with my coconut/olive oil mix; followed by my shampoo and rinse out conditioner (creature of habit). Then I apply my deep conditioner (out of the shower) and wrap my hair for the night. The next day, I spritz my hair thoroughly with warm water and sit under wither my hooded dryer (if I can get my blow dryer back from my daughter's house) or my heated cap for about 30 minutes. Then it's rinse and follow with my L.S.G.O. or L.S.G.B. system (leave-in, styler, gel, oil OR leave-in, styler, gel and butter). It's complex and takes a bit, but it allows me to manage my 4C hair without having to trust it in the hands of a stylist that doesn't love my hair and want to protect it like I do. In the 7 years since I've been natural, there is only one stylist I have let near my hair. If I can't get to her, I call her to find out what I should be doing. I'm almost 52 and my hair has never been this long (about 19" in front, 17" in back) in my life and I'll do nothing to ruin it.

    Napchat: my wash day routine:
    1. pre-detangle w/ conditioner (Aussie Moist)
    ----rinse with lukewarm/cold water
    2. shampoo in sections (w/ Cantu Cleansing Cream Shampoo)
    ----rinse with lukewarm/cold water
    3. condition (Aussie Moist) and I let the conditioner sit while I do my usual shower routine
    ---rinse with lukewarm/cold water
    4. Style. if I want to do a wash and go, I just use a creme and a gel (Twisted Sista Curl Activator Creme, Ecostyler Argan Oil Gel)

    I finger detangle to remove dead hair. I separate my hair in 4 sections. I use a clarifying shampoo to remove build up as I use products that contain mineral oil. Next, I use Creme of Nature detangling shampoo. I rinse and repeat. While the shampoo is still in my hair, I put two strand twist all over each section of my hair. When I leave the shampoo in a twist, I don't need to comb my hair. I then rinse my entire head. I then untwist each two strand twist and apply cold pressed olive oil and retwist. I place a plastic bag on my hair and use the olive oil as a deep and leave in conditioner. After 30 minutes I remove the plastic bag and tighten the twists and let my hair air dry so I can style my hair the next morning.
