Moved to San Antonio Texas in July 1983 from PA. Grew up on WWF only. Was blown away by the Texas wrestling scene back then. Golden age of WCCW .

This is a great example of how much better David was on the mic than his brothers. He just had a better mind for the business.

I would say THE BEST, but I'm permanently biased towards World Class. It was just such a fun promotion when it was firing on all cylinders.

So much would’ve been different if David was able to live. Not too much pressure on Kerry and Mike won’t be forced to wrestle

St. Louis, Florida, Dallas...by now the NWA brass was noticing that although he did not possess the physique his brother had, David Von Erich had what was needed to carry the NWA worl title.

David missed his calling by about 5-10 years. This guy would have been up there with names like Race, Funk, Dusty and Brisco for sure if he had come along around that time period. He was that good. He was so good that some people forget just how young he was when he died. Even though he was as messed and as much of a wreck as the other Von Erich's with drugs and demons, his presence and persona would suggest otherwise. As much as Kevin and Kerry were unreliable, David had a rep for being Mr reliable among the old promoters.
We all hoped then that David would be next in line to be the NWA World Champion, but I've come to believe now, that it just wouldn't have happened, because the business was changing so much so fast. Crockett was starting to call all the shots and they would have never agreed to let David be a long term champion while he was under Frtiz's control. He would have had to leave his dad and more importantly his brothers behind and went to work for Jim and Dusty, and I don't just don't see him doing that long term. All the brother's were fiercely loyal to one another.

@@TNAROHfan there's varying stories in books I've read and wrestlers stories about what happened in 1981 between Fritz and David that led David to work in the Florida for almost a year under the tutelage of Dory Funk Jr. I heard from Kevin Von Erich ( during his WCCW opening segments in the WWE 24/7 network) that Fritz had a ranking of who was his favorite son ( Kerry #1, Kevin #2 and David #3), and that he was the hardest and David. Which is funny, because David was the most like Fritz. It seems that it was a lifelong struggle for David to impress his dad and perhaps that's what led to David to leave Dallas for a bit to go to Florida and let's not forget how over was David in St. Louis. I agree had David started his career in the early 70s he would have held the title by 1978-79. It was around that time that Fritz was pushing hard to have David feud with Harley Race in St.Louis fir the NWA with great success. Yet by 1984, ( like you said) Crockett had his guy in Flair ( who adored David a loved working with him). I think David would have squeezed a six to eight week title run in '84, it would have been longer if he would have turned heel and betrayed Dusty in Mid-Atlantic and returned to Texas with the title. We will never know. It's a shame because had he lived we would talk about David as one of the top 50 wrestlers of all time IMHO.

The Ft Worth promotion (Championship Sports), which is shown here, was much better than the Dallas syndication (WCCW), despite what the latter did for the company.

I don't know, that's debatable. I actually lived closer to Will Rogers than the Sportatorium, but there was just something about going to see wrestling in Dallas that was awesome. I've never quite been to a place with close to the same atmosphere. It was just a wrestling mecca as far as I am concerned.

Why are they letting Kevin talk this much?

To make David sound better maybe LOL! David was a great "old time wrestling promo" Kerry and Kevin, man I loved these guys, they were so exciting in the ring, but I'm not sure what planet they were on half the time and I'm not sure they knew either.
