Went From We Don't Talk About Bruno to We Don't Talk About Mirabel
What If Mirabel Gave Up
Just to clarify in case it's confusing. This is an alternative universe. The Mirabel here isn't the same as the one in the movie, as you can probably tell from the end. She had a lot of bitterness and jealously since she was little. She doesn't care for the family, or have a close relationship with the Casita. So when she says sorry to it (since she is one of the reasons it broke), she doesn't actually mean it. Also when she says 'If I can't have a gift, then no one can', it's similar to her saying if 'I'm normal then everyone will be as well.' And unlike in the movie I had the candle start to come to life again, because there wouldn't be a point in Mirabel crushing it if it was already out. I know the video itself is less than a minute so it's hard to figure out the story. So I hope this helps a little if anyone becomes confused ❤️

It completely doesn't fit Mirabel to be a selfish villain. HOWEVER, what if she would intetnionally flick out the candle so everybody in the family would loose their gift and Abuela would finally have to notice them for who they are, not for their gifts. Also everybody would start their new life without the pressure and the gifts, exploring it and finding out who they really are.

This is like one of the “paths” Bruno mentioned when they were looking at his vision in the movie. There was no definite ending for her, so the story might’ve gone like this depending on her actions. Gives me chills..

I don’t think so since in Bruno’s vision, the butterfly sitting on the weed was there, which took place during Abuela and Mirabel’s talk by the river. That one scene led to the rest (Building of the house, Mirabel opening the door) and the candle “grew” brighter meaning Casita came back and so did their gifts, which is what happened in the movie. But one thing that can happen is Mirabel’s wishes. Mirabel could’ve extinguished the candle and pretend to be innocent, but the actions taken place later wouldn’t change, Casita coming back could be against her wish but it was bound to happen.

@@like_euphoria that's the vision after the first vision. They are talking about the first vision where he left or didn't associate with anyone anymore. In the first vision where they sing "we don't talk about Bruno" Mirabel tilts that vision screen thingy and sees that the house is cracked or in great shape and her standing in front hinting that she actually didn't have a definite ending as mentioned in this comment. She could have turned evil and that was what Bruno was afraid of.

Really neat concept tho, wish it could've been an option, at least the movie would've been longer and we'd probably get a dope villain song for Mirabel (Waiting on a Miracle would've been reprised into a darker theme)
I actually think it would be cool if she did destroy the candle,but maybe because she saw how some of her family members were suffering because of it. Like maybe she saw how Luisa was always overworked and didn’t have a lot of self worth, or Bruno because people would shun him because of it. And also how her not having a gift could have lead her to being pushed to the side and thought that the gifts were more trouble than their worth.

That's a twisted alternate take right there, it's like Mirabel has had enough of being viewed as a person with no gift, not special like the rest of her family and decided to pursue a darker path in her life onwards.

I don't know about a Darker Path...but I would know that she would likely cut herself off from the family just by the way she was treated and looked down upon. She would likely leave the valley and just start her new life alone. Many folks cut out their toxic families to start a new one. Not saying her family was toxic...but they are pretty close to it.

Coming from an hispanic household, sometimes when your older relatives argue with you, its usually better to stay quiet and just take whatever is thrown at you for everyone's sake. But Mirabel actually confronted Abuela when she was putting all the blame on her before Casita started collapsing. Sometimes bottling feelings up in these kind of situations drive us to do "selfish actions" instead of speaking up like Mirabel did. So i personally think that this would be a logic alternate ending if Mirabel didn't defend herself and just snaped from the inside. In her place i would have run away a long time ago.
I am so sorry if you had put up with that mistreatment and abuse.

Or option B for villainess Mirabel: her having good intent but using it for the wrong reasons. Once she realizes how much stress the family is under due to their gifts and the miracle, she decides to break the candle so she can lift that burden off the family, not realizing the consequences of what could happen.
It’d have been a cool concept to have Mirabel give up on the family to then having Abuela notice it was her who kept the house together, and then try to reason with her but Mirabel had had enough, so she just goes

Y’all have strange families. If anything it seemed like the familial conflict was a bit forced in some parts. When you are in a family that is that close knit and dependent on each other communication and conflict resolution should be your best social skills.

@@yenimiller9784 yes!! I’ve almost never seen an expression so wonderfully sickening!! Genuine unease. And the fact that I am now faced with the fact that such a nice movie could have so easily taken a turn for the worst and become something more akin to a horror movie.
Imagine since she was the one hwo maintains the miracles, she develops a certain ability to control every miracle of the madrigals, including casita as well. She'll then proceed to terrorize everyone with their own power especially Abuella

Hmmm, I don’t see her flicking out the candle because she doesn’t have a gift, but I could see her thinking, “all these gifts have actually brought is misery. Maybe these gifts are really more of a curse. Luisa is constantly overpressured, Isabella is held up to impossible standards of perfection, Bruno is ostracized for his ability to see the future, Pepa is constantly stressed and having to keep her emotions in check, etc.”
I'm glad that there's people like me who actually loves that good characters turning into villains prompt, corruption's so cool
Can we talk about how creepy and unsettling it was to see her usual happy face change into a maniacally evil one? And I think what makes it so disturbing is that we’ve seen her be caring and kind, empathetic and passionate but once someone like that (her) snaps, they do a full one eighty and viewers don’t expect it to go to that level, so it makes them uncomfortable.
Yeah, honestly it's tragic to see her become so twisted. Evil Mirabel scares me.

I'd imagine Mirabel having enough of everything and leaving. Throughout the movie we see that Mirabel has a strong connection to Casita, possibly even being able to control it to an extent. For instance, the cracks in the house happen when Mirabel's relationship with her family is strained like when she fights with them. The opposite effect also happens with the candle glowing brighter, for example, when Mirabel has grown closer to Isabella after her solo What Else Can I Do the candle glows brighter afterwards. So if Mirabel realizes this and leaves, then she would leave the family broken, without Casita, and have had her revenge by making them realize they needed her. She'd leave them with regret and feel satisfied.
When Mirabel left out of guilt and remorse, her family did try finding her because they loved and were worried for her though. Knowing this, I think if Mirabel left under angry conditions and spite against her family I think at least her aunt Pepa's side would respond angrily as well. If Mirabel didn't tell anyone about this realization, they'd look for a blame because: uh the house just broke what happened our powers are gone. First they'd either go to Abuela or Bruno after finding him and then realize Mirabel was gone. Confusion from Mirabel's family, suspicion from Pepa's (Except Antonio because he's a baby), and full regret from Bruno.
Abuela would fight with herself on anger and remorse, as she knows exactly why this is happening and is mad at Mirabel for doing this to everything she had built up (Because in this version Mirabel really did leave on purpose) but also at herself because Mirabel was right. Abuela might do everything she can to fix it before nothing works and she has to find Mirabel or she stays selfish and tries to move on and putting the blame on her granddaughter.... and potentially son because of the vision.

@@blazerheata6479 Mirabel, for her part, ran to a small town that has no ties with the Madrigal and settled there. Because she lived that long with the Madrigals and saw everything they did, she started helping the town she was in, in the form of services (sewing clothes, opening wells, fixing shit in highup places) and social work (group therapy, children activites and such). She is loved and cherished by the local community and actually found her home there, so when/if the family goes to persuade her to come back, she outright refuses. Either she just stays there or runs along to the next town everytime they reach her. Perhaps following this route Mirabel turns into kind of a legend of a person that goes around villages, changes them for the better before running away and never being seen again. And with the way that legends work, the Madrigal family would probably be framed as a malignant spirit as opposed to the way they are made as the saints of Encanto

So yes, but also no. I love the idea of this being the moment she breaks and becomes a villain, but not for the reason provided. I want to think that rather it being her resenting not having her own gift, that she at that moment starts to resent the gifts.
Lemme explain. Before the casita crumbles and breaks, causing the candle to die out, Mirabel comes to the realization that it was Abuela's desire for everything and everyone to be perfect, which bordered on obsession, that was killing the miracle. So now that she was saved by the casita and she holds the dying candle in her hands, she starts to ponder on that. She comes to the conclusion that it wasn't Abuela's fault... the gifts were powerful, they clouded Abuela's mind making her want to enforce perfection. So... with a pained heart she makes the decision to make sure that the gifts won't hurt anyone else. She makes it her mission to kill the magic, and make sure it stays dead. For the sake of her family, whether they agree with her or not. She is forced out, and even Bruno becomes afraid of what she's become. He comes back to the family out of fear of Mirabel... they've learned their lesson sure, but at the cost of Mirabel who now tries to destroy the family she once loved.

I dunno if I would consider this anti-hero stuff, as it benefits her more than anyone else regardless of intention. Even Isabella, one of the few kids with a problem in the family, was just discovering the extent of her powers, most others are fine, and Bruno probably wouldn't even benefit much from this one given that they seem to hate him regardless.
This is more of a villain move in my eyes

I think she’d do it simply to relieve some of the family members of their stress. Luisa wouldn’t have to do all that work, Bruno wouldn’t be ostracized anymore and Pepa could feel her feelings without endangering others. Maybe even Isabela wouldn’t be pressured to be the golden child anymore.
Isabela was treated as the perfect daughter regardless of her power I think. She controlled plants but her Abuela only wanted perfect roses
Some say the gifts, a token of Abuela's power, are necessary to maintain order. But they are wrong. The gifts are to blame!
I don't think Bruno will ever be truly accepted into the familia even without his gift. They have shown him how conditional their love is when they ruined his life.

I personally kind of wish that Mirabel gave up after being excluded from the family photo and runs away from home, but because the miracle was granted for the family but Abuela was fracturing it over the gifts, Casita began losing the magic and revoking gifts until Bruno realizes what his vision meant and tells the others that the only way to save it is to get Mirabel to come back, but first they have to find her and learn how to cope like ordinary people trying to find Mirabel, which would have been an awesome way to give the other family members character growth and a chance for Mirabel to voice her frustrations, not so much about not getting a gift, but over how they exclude her for not having one. I am still convinced one of the reasons she didn't get one is because she didn't need one.

Yo pensaba mas bien en que Mirabel conoce a buenas personas que la aceptan tal y como es. Explora sus habilidades y se da cuenta de que no necesita un don mágico para ser "especial". Ella se va de la casa a los 20 años debido a que encontro una vocación (en mi historia, maestra) y quiere emprender en el extranjero que le ha dado una oportunidad. Se iria con sus amigos. Ademas de que la familia no cambia y la sigue haciendo de menos.
La abuela no quiere que se vaya por que sabe que eso puede apagar el milagro. Quiere retenerla en contra de su volutad y no le importa sacrificar su felicidad con tal de tener la magia. La manipula para que se quede y "mantener a la familia unida". Mirabel se da cuenta de esto y aun asi se va.
La Casita se da cuenta de que Alma esta siendo egoista y que arruina a su familia. Le quita los poderes a todos poco a poco hasta que se vuelven personas comunes y corrientes. La abuela llora por esto y reflexiona demasiado tarde.

The Best theory and say of an episode of WHAT IF in Disney plus, it could even be encouraged that the creatives propose something similar. I feel like Disney is selling us a tirelessly optimistic heroine which is fine, but it would be great to normalize that even the most genuine and caring person can burn out and develop selfish feelings, in fact it would help a lot in the mental health of toxic positivity and the importance of caring. to these people without idealizing them as an inexhaustible source of kindness.

The timeline:
I was watching this movie and thinking the same thing. Bruno seemed to psyche out the people he came in contact with "you'll grow a gut", "you'll loose your hair", you'll never marry the man you want to, Dolores", "you'll ruin your own wedding, Pepa". Maribell seemed to be doing the same thing in a way, at least with her older sisters. "You shouldn't try so hard, Louisa" "try not to be so perfect, Isabella". It looked like she was psyching out the family members she came in contact with, which caused them to lose their gifts. When she ran away after Casita collapsed, I expected Bruno to find her, and they both would leave their family behind.
Me hice un AU de Encanto donde Bruno y Mirabel son mas cercanos.
Ellos tiene una gran conexión que surgio en cuanto Bruno la miro por primera vez siendo una bebé.
Se quieren más que a nada y Mirabel siempre acepta a Bruno y lo ayuda a ignorar el odio de la gente.
Debido a eso, la profecia de Mirabel causa mas impacto en Bruno, pues no quiere que su sobrina adorada y luz de su vida sea repudiada y echa de menos por la famila y pueblo como a él.
Mirabel sabe que su tio vive en las paredes y lo va a visitar y le da comida a escondidas. El final es igual, pero los acontecimientos para llegar a este son diferentes.
La pelea con la abuela es mas fuerte y provoca la muerte de Mirabel lo que provoca que Bruno se ponga como loco. Es la familia quien tiene que hacer las paces con él para que todo sea como antes.
En una parte de mi obra, Bruno le dice a Mirabel:
- Pronto nos vamos a ir muy lejos. Viviremos juntos y podremos estar en paza. Sera un lugar en donde la gente nos acepte.
-Encerio, tío??
-Sí, mi pequeña, es una promesa.
Antes que Mirabel muera, ella le dice que se la lleve a ese lugar...
personally I think Bruno was trying to say different messages. maybe you'll grow a gut means you should maybe watch your weight, your goldfish will die to make sure you're properly taking care of your pet. and he didn't tell pepa that she was going to ruin her wedding. at almost the end om the movie he starts a song " I'll start okay, pepa i'm sorry bout your wedding didn't mean to be upsetin it wasn't a prophecy i could just see you were sweating and i wanted you to know that your bro loves you so" he didn't leave his family at all he lived in the walls of the house patching cracks. he only left his tower because his gift didn't help the family but did the opposite. sry for grammer errors its 2 in the morning

If done right, this could have made the movie even more interesting. Mirabel would not intentionally destroy the miracle, but she maybe would have given up and decided to leave the family. She has her dark reprise of Waiting On A Miracle, and it's only when she's gone that the family realizes that they were wrong in the way they treated her. It becomes their turn to save her just like she saved some of them (Louisa, Isabella, etc.). Would've taken an extra 40 minutes but it could have worked. Still satisfied with the canon ending though.

Now that I think about it, it would have been interesting to see if Mirabel intentionally blew out the candle because she thought the magic was what was pulling her family apart. Because she has learned throughout the movie that the pressures to maintain the magic and the expectations on her cousins and siblings is ripping at them, maybe she blows out the candle as a sacrifice. If she blew out the candle, she would be the reason that Casita is gone. Although, at the same time, it may also be because she doesn't want to be othered by her family anymore (although by doing so, she would then be othered because she destroyed the miracle). It's interesting to think how that action can have both selfish and selfless intentions.

What I realised is that Mirabel would likely be the one who succeeds Abuela. We know Abuela is old and will one day be gone, Mirabel is a parallel to Abuela and would likely be the one who continues to lead the gift ceremony and such. Both Mirabel and Abuela not having gifts, yet keeping the family together and stronger

well...yeah, thats basically the main theory about why Mirabel doesnt have a Gift. Shes de succesor of Abuela as the candle holder. One more detail is the strong bond between her and Casita.
Imagine u repeat a grade like u repeat 8th grade, and the student says: if I can't pass to high school, NO ONE WILL (LAUGHS HYSTERICALLY)

Honestly I love the idea. It would've been fun if Bruno had actually been bullied into being a villain, and he had a prophecy that Mirabel would end up the same. In an effort to avoid it (whether she had no powers or a power seen as negative, i.e. siphoning powers or cancelling them out, or perhaps Bruno's prophecy gift being passed down to her), she ended up making things worse until her family ostracized her, and now we don't talk about Mirabel.

There is the whole "catch the candle" scene, everyone is escorted out of the Casita, "Mirabel get out! Leave it!", she keeps trying to reach the candle until HA! she got it! But she actually just really wanted to destroy the candle herself
That would be the ultimate spite move but I can't see any other reason to plan to save it and then destroy it anyway

This gave me chills because of the 180 motivation here. Mirabel always put her family first. In this alternate timeline, all the ostricizing and looking down on her (especially from Abuela) makes her SNAP and start putting herself first.
Now THAT would be an interesting movie!
She had the sweetest connection with Casitha.I don't think she would destroy the source of Casita just because she haven't had any miracle.Casitha being the closest thing to her and her room(as I guess the only bedroom Casita can enter) but good plot twist.I got chills for seconds.
such a dramatic twist, she went from so soft and "im sorry casita" to "if i can't have a gift then no one can" then 2 creepy faces but as i said TWO MONTHS AGO i love the first evil face she did awsome.
I honestly was low-key expecting this, like, I'd would be an awesome start for a villain, like, for the whole movie we saw Mirabel so happy and hopeful, trying to help everyone but after realizing she couldn't save the miracle and everyone was blaming her for it, she's filled with anger, blaming her parents for never defending her when Abuela was slandering her, hating her sisters and cousins for always being in Abuela's side despite everything and absolutely hating Abuela for everything she has done to the family, in the end, she would ran away, first crying in the river, letting all those dark feelings consume her and eventually ran away, searching for a way to find magic for her own while her family is blaming eachother while desperately trying to fix their house.
I personally feel like had the rest of the family joined in when Abuela was yelling at her or if no one but Bruno showed up to look for her, Mirabel definitely would’ve gone down a darker path. That would have been epic to see and then like someone else here said, Bruno would have been the one to take her out of that mindset or encourage it because he feels the same way.
Btw this animation was absolutely amazing because her smile really scared me lol

Really, Bruno wouldn’t try to drive her away from the darker path, he really doesn’t want anything to do with that family if it went down a darker path like this, really I get that Bruno would be the cool uncle, but her parents exist too..

I get why everyone is saying Mirabel wouldn't do this but if she did I'd like to imagine that it was because of all the pressure put on her. Think about it, first her family treats her as though she can't do anything special because she didn't receive a gift and her uncle had already been ostrocized because he didn't serve the family. In a broken mind why wouldn't her family do the same to her? Maybe if this did happen it would be because she wanted to have some control over what happened before she ran away into the mountains.
Now I want a Disney movie about a new and original villain that starts off bad but then turns good, kind of like Megamind but without superheros

Yeah, I like the idea of a twist villain, but it just wouldn't fit Mirabel's character. She's strong in the way that she can see past the obvious flaws in her family to see human beings who need each other more than they realize. Plus, she's already accepted the fact that she has no gift by the start of the movie. She really just wants to be seen and accepted by her family for who she is, without feeling like such an outcast. So her motivation showcased in this animatic is unreasonable and way out of left field.

Obviously, given what happened in the movie before this point with Isabella I doubt she would do this, but I'm assuming there were some differences in what happened leading up to this point in this hypothetical universe, so what happened in the movie doesn't mean much
I honestly feel like... if there were an alternate route to go down with this movie, Mirabel would just disappear, much like Bruno did, after she realized that she would never be seen as good enough. Once the candle burned out, she would just leave and go somewhere else. The family, without their gifts, would have to search for her and we get to explore who they really are and see them grow and change and realize that Mirabel always had their best interests at heart.

I think Bruno saved Mirabel from being the villian so then the family wouldn't antagonize her and treat her in a way so she would be vengeful of her family.

Like someone else said, it would have been a great to get a dark reprise of Waiting on a Miracle. But to be honest the entire way Mirabel acted would have to change, since everything she did was for the family. However the way she acted could possibly work if they built up some villainous acts to that point. I like to imagine that if she did have a villain arc it would be because everything she did was for the family but it was never enough. She would turn her back on her family, finally getting to her breaking point, and the scene where Mirabel and Abuela had an argument would occur. The house would finally collapse, and Mirabel would do everything she could to get to the candle, and finally gets there. But she doesn't try to save it, she destroys it herself. However, this would also mean that Disney's original idea to make the casita sort of against her would actually have to be a thing instead of her and the casita being close. That way, when she destroys the candle, it would have made more sense because she wasn't close to the casita, being more or less it's rival.
Anywho thank you for listening to my little ramble.

And worst of all they basically take advantage of the younger generation and their gifts instead of working together to try to take off the pressure from the family. And i hated how the village people rubbed it in Mirabels face she had no special gift
Cool concept! I definitely would’ve thought an evil Mirabelle would be more of a “This family is beyond repair. Getting your powers back will just help you hide that fact again, and I’m TIRED OF IT!” type of villain, but giving her a selfish, jealous side that she’d been able to hide from even the viewers is such a gut punch!

This movie made me burst into tears so badly, cause i felt Mirabel's sadness of not being good enough and trying so hard to help but being blamed for shit she wasn't able to control (or even trying to prevent). Realistically the Abuela wouldn't have gave in so fast and if it wasn't a Disney movie she would've just gotten offended and rage more. This is an opinion btw. At the end of the movie i was still pissed at Alma. That old hag literally told Mirabel that her not having a gift was not an excuse to hurt her family, but the REAL reason was that no matter how much Alma had lost or suffered she had NO RIGHT to incite trauma and abuse her family. I kept thinking if i was Mirabel i would've taken Bruno and my parents away (because they were the only ones that understood), and left Abuela to fix the shit she caused. Because a "sorry" does not excuse all the pain the old bitch had put onto the poor Mirabel and her family...And i know they reconciled and it's all sweet and stuff, but if it were me i would've left and let them realize they fucked up because the magic would've died without me (in the case i was on Mirabel's shoes). And i would taste victory when they begged me to come back. And i would not come back...sweet revenge.

@@hobomike6935 I would do the same. If perfect family won't allow troublemakers and misfits, then I'll be leaving home and make them realize how their actions hurt people even more than one. It's crazy to imagine a perfect family. If I was Abuela, I would not mind troublemakers cause family was never meant to be perfect, no one in the family needs to perfect, it's okay to have people messing around unless they're educated and disciplined enough. There are times that I hated my little stepsister but at the same time, I pitied her for not having a balance family member that stand beside her. So I'm the only person who cares and act as her older sibling.
I mean this would be AMAZING cause I saw a commentary snd it really changed my view, they said something like “Everyone doesnt need a gift to be amazing, you can see eachother for who they are BESIDES their gifts...and then the magic comes back and everyone gets their gift..and Mirabel just gets a door.“ I mean..if she cant get anything, and her WHOLE life since her ceremony is just acts of pure envy she could make a great twist villian if written and paced correctly. Id like to see that! :D

And Dolores having her own issues and not gift based ones, and Antonio just needing ideas on how to help. I doubt they’d give Mirabel a villain arc now- kinda sad 😔

Yes! This is so much better than a lot of the other comments I've seen (no offense to them, this is just really good). It's believable, would have left plenty of room for other changes, instead of the villain arc starting and being resolved in the final segment of the movie as others suggested, and would still be really cool and unorthodox, especially for Disney

I don’t agree with the villain arc. Mirabel was an outcast, but she loved her family too much to betray them all like that, especially Antonio and her parents. I relate to Mirabel because of how despite being in the shadows all our lives, it just feels so wrong to truly hate on and actively work against our families. Maybe they deserve it but it’s a scary thing to turn on people you depend on. Anyways, cool take! Always love a good villain though 👍👍

While I agree it goes against the character of Mirabel shown in the movie, and it probably wouldn't have made for as emotional a movie or as good of a message, I just think that a twist "hero to villain" movie, with a relatable protagonist with understandable motivations, could have been fantastic if done correctly. It also would have been a shock because it's a Disney kids' movie

you know bruno's vision was undicided? there were two outcomes, where mirabel saved the miracle and mirabel destroying it, this is this outcome
An interesting take for sure and it would've taken out the already poor apology but I don't think it would be due to the gifts. The movie demonstrates throughout the entire thing that it wasn't the gifts that made Mirabel an outcast to the Madrigals, it was the way her Abuela treated her. It was the impossible standards and being treated like an omen of bad luck. So I think Mirabel would have "gone rogue" due to losing the desire to try to be good enough for her Abuela rather than getting a gift.
Honestly, this would have been a great twist, Bruno was sort of build up as "Villain" throughout the movie, only for him to be one of the best character. Mirabel turning on the dark side, or simply just giving up on her family would make an interesting sequel to the movie.

This video reminds me of a dream I had one night that kinda follows this concept. It also happens to be a crossover. Basically, Mirabel runs away from the destroyed Casita, while angry at the family and wanting nothing to do with them. Along the way, she runs into Mother Gothel from Tangled. They both make a pact. Gothel gets the magic she’s hoping for, and Mirabel get’s a place to stay. And it kinda leads to a season 1-2 Breaking Bad Walter White and Jessie relationship and all that. Just wanted to share that.
