Knife-Forging SEAL Nomad Shane Hiatt Part Two | Mike Ritland Podcast Episode 164

- Опубліковано 1 сер 2024
- Mike Ritland and Shane Hiatt have been friends for a long time. Which is a surprisingly rare thing in the veteran community - the odds that two SEAL Team guys would run into each other again and again aren't quite as high as you might think. But Shane's a nomad - a wandering traveler, that's been living out of his truck with just his dog and the natural beauty of the American countryside for over 15 years.
Fortunately, he's not just panning for change out there on the open road - Shane owns and operates SH9, an elite knife company that ships American-made products all over the world. So now that he's drifted into town again, Mike's gotta know - what's a former Navy SEAL looking for out there on the highway?

You’ve had some killer guests Mike but Shane is by far in the top Three!
The back-and-forth ball-busting is the best. I have not laughed that hard in a long time or maybe ever when it comes to Mike Drop. Keep up the work & much respect to you both.
LMAO.. All I can say as I'm watching this is.. Thank you for your service.. I was rolling on the flloor as you were talking about Mike helping you with your broken arms.. ;-)
Great podcast, Mike! I remember when you two were on SOFREP years ago, and I always hoped you’d have him on! 🇺🇸💪💪🏿💪🏼💪🏾🇺🇸
From the UK - Thank You Mike Ritland for ALL your podcasts - I have watched many on my admin day for my business - having the podcasts playing while it feels like I am throwing a chair up a highway is refreshing on that work day.
The chemistry between you 2 is undeniable. You've known each other for so long and busting each others balls. I spit
out my coffee on one occasion You guys are hilarious trying to one up each other. Loved every second of it.
I enjoyed an earlier Visit from Shane I think it was Maybe 3 or 4 years ago, and was the same thing. So funny, it's great to see friends with that kind of a bond. You guys take care man.
brilliant podcast, thank you so very much for sharing.
Great interview with one of your closest friends. Could tell u guys were having a blast reminiscing about your time in the teams and all the crazy things you went through. Wish u both the best and thank you for your service to this great nation.
The boys are back.. And here we go!
Favorite time of the week!
Something about this guy I like! Love that email story when he showed us how he hit Send!
That’s wild. I had the same surgery on my right arm. And that was all I could stand. The fact you had both and your brother in arms Fukn with you is petty wild lol
I get it man! I lived as a nomad for years. Still a minimalist. Great guest.
Hooyah brothers awesome videos . So proud of you both and team members. USN Seals💯🇱🇷💪
God Bless Shane
God Bless Mike
God Bless America 🇺🇸
That was excellence. Great interview. Good guy
You two guys kept me smiling the whole time. Great people. Awesome podcast
Being in the health care industry. We call ortho surgeons carpenters for a
Reason.
Fun interview!
Love the banter
What an excellent interview! I loved your guest's perspective on people, the country and life. Your humor had me laughing along with you both. Thanks for that. Thank you both for your service!
Badass POD. Loved both parts
“ I didn’t know what day it was today “. …. “ Dude that’s kinda the goal “. My favorite line. Just fuckin awesome.
Absolutely loved and enjoyed this! Thank you
Very underrated episode
Hello Shane. So thank you for sharing. Myself I don’t like when people say thank you for your service. I respect your choices. Take care. Thx Mike.
“Kentaco Hut” LOL 😂
Watching two old friends bust each other's chops never gets old. Shane should be a caddie when he grows up. Often thought Damascus pattern was proper term for modern stuff
Great episode. Coming in v heavy at the start.
HOW...
Honesty Open-mindedness Willingness.
❤🎉😊
Reminds me of me and my best friend since 3rd grade having a chat(both in our 30’s now) just talking shit to each other. One of the most entertaining interviews ive seen. The trailer park bashing is exact conversations ive had with my buddy
Shane seems awesome😂 I need a friend like Shane
I love this guy.
This was really cool. Both, part 1 and 2. Love yall friendship. Much respect
I bust out laughing multiple times listening to these guys. I love it! Thanks for a great podcast.
This was the second best episode, the first was his 1st episode. Love the banter never lmao so much
It's great to see a real guy. A lot of the younger ones I've seen on these shows kinda fit the stereotype. This man is so humble, and genuine. No blah blah blah about buds, and Hollywood stuff. I've known guys like him. I'm close to his age. Our generation didn't really prep for college,we smoked and drank and still played football and baseball. Most of our parents didn't stroke our egos. When it came to those things or even military training, I think most of us were just winging it. We didn't have the Internet to tell us how to train/ prepare for things like that. I believe we actually didn't even realize how bad some of the tougher things sucked. You went to the military, or to play sports,or whatever your path was,and you either did it or you didn't. We didn't have the same distractions that kids do today. Most of us had one phone, one TV, and maybe our parents had decent used cars. Honestly, I think we were just ignorant to how hard or dangerous or unlikely it was for us to succeed in certain things. It may have been a blessing in a way. A kid watches war movies and dreams of being that guy. He may have an idea that it's gonna be tough, but there's not all of this external dialogue to mess with his head. He gives the example of the guy that got booted out for being a drunk. The guy was a smoker, and also an animal physically. I also remember guys like that. These days they would be outcasts .
I would follow Shane if he ever had a channel showing the he places travels to. What a interesting dude.
The personal banter made the interview. Great episode!
Great podcast and your guys relationship comes through and is awesome to see and hear.
Good stuff.
Truths !
25:29 🤣 🤣 🤣 man I love this type of shit. Makes me miss the Corps
So a couple of squirrels, er I mean Seals, get together... thank you gentlemen.
Listening to him talk about Northwest MT was cool. I grew up where he talked about. Lake Koocanusa is a nice spot.
Shane is definitely my brother from another Mother! Haha
Keep up the good work Mike.. Follow you from Sweden
Where did you go in Maine?? Be cool to have you guys come check out our shooting range an have a small match. Feed ya all the fresh lobster you can handle!!
Very cool vlog!!!! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Mike got that intro upgrade! Sharp!
I Love the two part series.
And even at that no on
Well if the Nomad wants to come out to the High Desert Of Calif. Or is passing through. I have a small Golf Course right down the way.. He can pitch a tent park his truck. Come and go as he pleases. I'm on the other side of LA Palmdale to the west of me.. On the 138 that runs EAST /West of the I-15 There is nothing but Joshua Trees Desert and mountains for miles around.. Serious he's always welcome. One Caveat, he must like dogs. ;-)
I agree with Shane 1000%
o shit Shane is back! i was soo sad they Brandon pulled those episode of you guys and Chris doing the team podcast. That shit was soooo funny, super sad its gone.
I deleted the comment out of respect to you and the Mike Drop Podcast. However, my curiosity into the removal of the last video still stands.
49:08+ lol. Most folks can relate to that feeling for a friend at some point
It is WILD the stuff you guys were responsible for in your early 20’s!
what watch is Mike wearing? amazing episode!!! I never miss one!!
You guys are hilarious man. You could do a weekly show. The wealth of knowledge and humor is fantastic. What is Shane's website or IG? I collect blades and am definitely interested.
what happened to the nuclear missile tech video?
I love it.Thank you for all the amazing pod cast's.
Wow . . .
I never heard service man’s saying what you two say in the first 10 minutes about respect until a point.
My father and life was teaching me the same principle of being critical thinker, logical and pragmatic.
Thank you guys sharing your experiences.
I wish I had that power hammer!
Remember when special forces were supposed to be humble professionals that didn't talk about it? Pepperidge farm remembers
Fucking awesome dude!!!
Mike great friend. ,have him come to Florida pick me up,, ive been a woodsman my whole life,, we can go to yhe swamp and shoot some Anoconda,s
Buds.
me and this dude think alike
01:38:00, that would have been funny if he said it was Vincent Vargas leaving another podcast with a Fmr. SEAL that has been on your podcast.
Not a single mention of you and the Japanese girl walking into the hotel room to Shane on the couch doing his thing.
Ball busting at its finest.
That was very condescending. You’re right, that was condescending……
I really hate to be this guy but I’ve seen this detailer showdown so many times I’ve tuned it out. I did nearly 22 years and spent 9 of those deployed. Broke my neck, crush my face in, destroyed left leg, and even contracted MERS.
I PCS’d 10 times by 16 years in. The appropriate response to shit orders is to take them, then volunteer for a solicitation shortly after getting there if you do in fact dislike it.
Walking away at 16.5yrs in is what we refer to in AA as “I’ll show you, I’ll hurt me”. I do appreciate the fact that you’re not impacting anyone else. I wish your leadership would have backed you up against the detailer. I’m happy you’re doing well, I just really hate to see shit like that go down. Especially with people who actually stepped up and gave 10 times more than 99% of people ever will.
Just my $0.02
CWO-2, ret
Bald Guy looks like one of those fat seals that always slipped through training and never got caught cheating. Even buds can never find the perfect candidate
You don’t slip through BUDS
I feel bad for guys who never experienced having a military buddy. I was enlisted and an officer and had pals from both times who are fucking awesome. My roomie from Annapolis is best guy I ever met. So is my running buddy when I was enlisted knucklehead.
🇺🇸👍💯
