Ryan Shelbaugh So true. I started the arc thinking "oh here come another pair of trashy Shounen joke villains" and ended it with "GENTLE, YOU ARE THE MANLIEST MAN TO EVER WALK THE EARTH! I SALUTE YOU!"
That's why I don't think he's cut out to be a villain. He has a hero's heart. But society failed him and basically forced him to be a villain. Personally I think he should take another crack at being a hero with La Brava as his sidekick. They could do a lot of good.
I like how izuku mentions the fight against gentle was probably the hardest fight for him, not because the fight in itself was tough, but rather he saw himself in gentle.
But what did he learn from it? He just went back to being normal tbh. which I don't like. He should've been developed by this fight. Like realising not all criminals are bad, and some of them are honestly good. But I get it, he only saw himself in Gentle, and he knew almost nothing about Gentle and La brava, but it still should've developed him more. All he did was get more confident after this arc. It's almost as if Gentle was wasted...
I would not say that. I believe layer in the series, Deku will confront a criminal who is misguided and be reminded of Gentle. He will try and talk him down and convince him to turn himself in. Just because it is not brought up does not mean it is forgotten. People forgot about Ragdoll but her quirk plays a big role in the current arc.
Oh wow, I forgot she was 21. When I first read the chapters, I thought she had just gotten out of school and just made the legal age of 18. Her being 21 is definitely better, though.

I totally agree. It's just a hard fact of life that sometimes you can give everything you've got and it will still go south. I loved that Deku recognized Gentle as a path he too might have gone down if not for AllMight etc. It's like how Naruto viewed Gaara when they first combatted each other. Few are born bad...they are sometimes unwittingly sculpted into it and luckily for Gentle and LaBrava their real hearts showed in that they *didn't* actually seriously harm anyone.

@The Quality Comedian Yeah I think Horikoshi made a mistake by making them so wholesome and lovable. I honestly love how he was seeking fame and recognition and being special, he didn’t become a hero but he became a hero to someone who mattered to him. It’s actually a very beautiful story
You know, each new arc MHA makes me respect its author even more, there is just a humanity and an understanding of modern society in his work you just don't see in older manga. Don't misunderstand me, I fucking love Jojo and One Piece and Berserk and all those wonderful ancient series. But you can see, particularly in One Piece, that the mangakas grew up and started writting for an audience in a specific period. Basically what I am trying to say is I am amazed nobody did the youtube villain celebrity before, it is just such a simple and neat concept
This is the true progression of themes. People keep saying its ripping off other stories when in truth Horijoshi uses MHA to pay homage to his inspirations growing uo and exploring beyond Plus Ultra.
As a huge One Piece and Jojo fan I agree. I still appreciate the old but gold ways these series have told their stories. But I'm glad shonen is starting to dwelve into more manga taking place in the modern so as to connect for a newer generation. Though, One Piece and Jojo are still some of the best in their mediums imo. They havent fallen off for me like other people
Dr. MeatDestroyer 1800dickmedown I wonder if jojo ever can fall off, every part is something new and it explores a new genera, from horror to adventure there’s even a mob drama and a western
@@gabrielespana319 this might be an unpopular opinion but I dont like parts 1, 3, 6, and 8. Not saying I hate everything about them its just that they have boring parts
finally...finally someone explains the reasons these characters are a gem, like I have a friend that directly said gentle is dumb but I think he didn't saw all the things that he is and specifically did by saving La Brava, like this arc was really was like so impactful since it also was important for deku since he learned that even if he wants it or not, he will step in others dreams so he can become the greatest hero
MasterWalt it's a high chance they will be just background characters then. Like Fullbringers in Bleach. What I think they need is a spinoff. Or a more detailed story in the anime.
Marluxia 88 Like the Vigilante manga (MHA Spin off manga) albeit it will take a long time before that happen (the pens on how the Vigilante manga Goes)
Gentle is basically the silver age Joker, complete with a Harley. But the twist is they love eachother. I hope Deku meets them again when he's a full fledged hero. I can just envision him pulling a DCAU Flash and being able to speak to them as friends, or promising to drop by and visit sometime... if they by some reason regress to villainy somehow he could be more than just a symbol of peace that way. GAH I can't wait to see timeskips! Horikoshi is making his own universe right now.
actually "brava" in spanish is adjective that is used when someone is courageous or when someone has a shortfuse, like a dog that bites when somone pets it
yeah but that is still the most comon usage of the word, no one says, brava! when chearing a woman. it is mostly used when someone is courageous or raging
Rayopaw Er... I don’t know about that. Brava could be use more positive in another country. What’s common for us is probably not so common for another person around the world.

So glad you finally made this video. A lot of people seemed underwhelmed by this duo when they were first published weekly, but going back and reading the whole thing, they are really great and I want to see them more.
I just wish Gentle could read our positive comments on how many people were cheering him on. I absolutely love the goofy and tragic duo. By far my favorite characters, they completely stole the show for me, I’m just sad we won’t be seeing them for a while (I’m not certain of this as I don’t read the manga).
I knew this arc felt off compared to the past one which was pretty heavy. I liked it and felt it was a breath of fresh air. Now knowing it was a reference to the silver age I like it even more.
Stain was the shift the series needed, but I'd argue Chisaki lives up way more to that potential and added a brutality to the overall world that was only implied with Stain. He also marks a growth for the league of villains in a way where instead of just ending up punked out to a villian with defined goals, they do get punked out but strike back ruthlessly and calculated.
Honestly there has only been one weak link in the antagonists and thats been reDestro in the current manga arc. Without spoiling his designs not very striking, his reason is boring, his quirk is boring, his allies have boring quirks n designs except for one and his entire arc so far has been to show how some peoples quirks have gotten stronger. The arcs not finished yet so it might get more interesting but still at the moment he's the worst named villain so far.
This was beautiful! I def seen myself in Gentle and it feels like an eye opener because I feel like this is how I approach life. It’s almost sad and frightening seeing this manifestation. My current gf also strongly reminds me of La Brava and this is what amplified the thought. I’m looking to change myself for the better and I want to be willing to have the strength and courage to take on life that hard way
I love them so much! The school festival arc has become one of my favorite arcs, thanks to these two and Kyoka's development! Gentle and La Brava are officially two of my favorite villains and, in my opinion, the best power couple.
I really liked this duo. Gentle was very relatable, both in his faults and strengths, he was overall a good guy and I really felt for him. Le Brava was amazing and an easy contender for best waifu, despite her "stature". I hope we get to see more of them in the future. Great video.
Hey! This is really late but the La Brava and Gentle Criminal fights are airing on Toonami right now. All I can think of is this amazing arc analysis video you made as soon as I read through the arc. You made my favorite MHA fight even more enjoyable, and watching it in English is a treat. Thanks a ton Meti!
I just learned about this characters and im already in love with them, Gentle criminal actually reminds me of my self to a degree Especially the part where he sucks at working hard but still wants to be remembered (And also does youtube and has passion for it)
When I first started reading this arc, I was mildly confused by Gentle. I thought his concept was super cool! A villain who vlogs? I hadn't seen anything like it (beyond youtuber aus from the fandom) and I was super excited to see where it was gonna go. Admittedly, I read this whole arc in about a day, so I didn't have much time to get attached to Gentle and La Brava, but I can see myself so much in the both of them. I bawled my eyes out when they got caught. (lil rambly so you can skip this bit if you wanna) I feel really connected to these two because of how much I've been let down in my short almost 19 years. I was bullied for having a crush on a classmate in middle school, and I still don't have my drivers license. I almost didn't graduate high school. I spend most of my free time watching UA-cam. Gentle and La Brava feel like Horikoshi took my heart and divided it between the two characters. I'm very excited to see them animated!
His backstory is my worst fear, and I relate so freaking much to this dude and his performance. He is the perfect character to me and will always be my favorite
The two main Naruto love stories are literally the worst ones because they were so one sided and reek of fan service. I like hinata as a character, but i wish they implied more between them both instead of "oh fuck you sakura single for life" then stumbles on hinata's love for him at THE VERY FUCKING END
OH i just realized its La Brava. Huh. Weird. Cause where i read it, they translate it as Love Lover (La Brava = Ra Buraba = Rabu Rabaa=Love Lover) (kinda makes more sense love lover tho, regarding her quirk and personality)
Thank you for this break down. Gentle and La Brava were to of my favorite characters thus far in the series. Also the way you end your videos is hilarious. I’m always weak.
Gentle and La Brava became from my least favourite villain to my second and arguably favourite villain (Stain's my favourite) and one of my favourite characters in my hero academia. I really liked how MHA didn't just add a half ass twist like Gentle never liked La Brava and was just manipulating her like so many other shows and movies do and rather built on their relationship. I guess I relate to characters who desperately want to get recognition but never get any and suicidal loners spending their time on the internet
I just found your channel and I love it I mean this video is one of my favorites your channel La Brava and Gentle Criminal are so inspired with All Might And Deku as you said but what I’m trying to say La Brava and Gentle Criminal have such a great bond and that their villains makes it even better
about working hard, i dont agree with you, the hero exam isnt just how good you are using your quirk, but also, grades as well, not everyone is good at grades, there is ppl who are born with no capabilities such as pass into a super high value test for only the best.we have many examples of that, ppl with amazing quirks and desires not been part of the class A, but mineta been able to.
lyn mineta has a good quirk though. It just has a high skill ceiling What the hell is someone like Todoroki or Aizawa or Midnight gonna do against him?

I honestly love how he was seeking fame and recognition and being special, he didn’t become a hero but he became a hero to someone who mattered to him. It’s actually a very beautiful story
Gentle and La Brava - the Heroes who could have been, if only in a different time and place.
Imagine, instead of Deku, All Might found Gentle first.
@@kuronoch.1441 Welp, I need someone to write this.
@@kuronoch.1441 All Might wouldn’t give Gentle OfA. Not in a million years
You know, each new arc MHA makes me respect its author even more, there is just a humanity and an understanding of modern society in his work you just don't see in older manga.
YES
I freaking loved this duo, I cant wait for them to reappear in the manga.
MasterWalt it's a high chance they will be just background characters then. Like Fullbringers in Bleach. What I think they need is a spinoff. Or a more detailed story in the anime.
Marluxia 88 Like the Vigilante manga (MHA Spin off manga)
albeit it will take a long time before that happen (the pens on how the Vigilante manga Goes)
Something about their aesthetic makes me think they will face Compress one day
Facts. And also for me not the manga but anime too
Gentle is basically the silver age Joker, complete with a Harley. But the twist is they love eachother.
I hope Deku meets them again when he's a full fledged hero.
I can just envision him pulling a DCAU Flash and being able to speak to them as friends, or promising to drop by and visit sometime... if they by some reason regress to villainy somehow
he could be more than just a symbol of peace that way.
GAH I can't wait to see timeskips!
Horikoshi is making his own universe right now.
The twist is that their relationship is actually very healthy even though they as individuals aren't that healthy at all mentally
"Wanna hear another joke Nighteye?"
actually "brava" in spanish is adjective that is used when someone is courageous or when someone has a shortfuse, like a dog that bites when somone pets it
Rayopaw that doesn’t sound like La. Brava
yeah but that is still the most comon usage of the word, no one says, brava! when chearing a woman. it is mostly used when someone is courageous or raging
Rayopaw Er... I don’t know about that. Brava could be use more positive in another country. What’s common for us is probably not so common for another person around the world.

Without question.
I adore their design. Probably my favorite in the series.
My favorite design still Overhaul & Hawks. Can't decide between these two.
Love gentles design intensely.
Just his desgin Made me read the manga. Its top notch. Classy gentleman style with a mustace. Fantastic
To make it clear La Brava is an Italian word that match perfectly with this character:It means thug or villain but also its used to describe a kind person
Nice, didn't know.
Hahaha La Brava es una palabra italiana ?

They’re incredibly similar languages...
@@hoodieninja4983
yep, I confirm. I'm Italian and Spanish is a language pretty similar to our. I talk (not a lot) a little Spanish, so... yeah, it's incredible.
Brava in Spanish means "fierce/wild female" as in untamed or agresive, but is also used as a cheer (oddly enough) so...yeah...
Hero’s just beat down the people who don’t fit in

So glad you finally made this video. A lot of people seemed underwhelmed by this duo when they were first published weekly, but going back and reading the whole thing, they are really great and I want to see them more.

Gentle is such a dandy. Him putting on the eye shadows with marker to mirror La Brava is such a smooth move. I love them both.
I just wish Gentle could read our positive comments on how many people were cheering him on. I absolutely love the goofy and tragic duo. By far my favorite characters, they completely stole the show for me, I’m just sad we won’t be seeing them for a while (I’m not certain of this as I don’t read the manga).
Gentle had better get a redemption arc with La Brava. They could be the best tag team ever.
Goodness these two are precious together.
I knew this arc felt off compared to the past one which was pretty heavy. I liked it and felt it was a breath of fresh air. Now knowing it was a reference to the silver age I like it even more.
Also when I read that chapter I somehow missed the fact that the cops let them go. I thought they were still imprisoned.
Same here.
I love how everyone uses the 『HISTORY OF NIHON』and 『HISTORY OF ZA WARUDO』as actual sources and explainations.
Deku vs Gentle made me tear up.
jk every fight in MHA can make me do that.
Gentle and La Brava are still the best characters though.
by far, they are the most human ones, there is no one else in the manga we can relate to more
more better than Nitrosweat.
The weirdest legal couple ever.
Gentle and Stain were imo the best antagonists of this series to date.
Bro I would die for their relationship
Same here buddy! I would do the same thing.
Not only are they great characters but they are also a nice break from the more deadly villains

Watch Shimoneta
I love them so much! The school festival arc has become one of my favorite arcs, thanks to these two and Kyoka's development! Gentle and La Brava are officially two of my favorite villains and, in my opinion, the best power couple.
Me too!
Agreed
I really liked this duo. Gentle was very relatable, both in his faults and strengths, he was overall a good guy and I really felt for him. Le Brava was amazing and an easy contender for best waifu, despite her "stature".
I hope we get to see more of them in the future. Great video.
Hey! This is really late but the La Brava and Gentle Criminal fights are airing on Toonami right now. All I can think of is this amazing arc analysis video you made as soon as I read through the arc. You made my favorite MHA fight even more enjoyable, and watching it in English is a treat. Thanks a ton Meti!
I just learned about this characters and im already in love with them,
Gentle criminal actually reminds me of my self to a degree
Especially the part where he sucks at working hard but still wants to be remembered
(And also does youtube and has passion for it)
When I first started reading this arc, I was mildly confused by Gentle.
(lil rambly so you can skip this bit if you wanna)
I feel really connected to these two because of how much I've been let down in my short almost 19 years.
This arc was WAY better than it had any right to be. I was tearing up at work when I was reading it
His backstory is my worst fear, and I relate so freaking much to this dude and his performance. He is the perfect character to me and will always be my favorite
With only those few chapters, they made way better love story than Naruto/HInata
The two main Naruto love stories are literally the worst ones because they were so one sided and reek of fan service. I like hinata as a character, but i wish they implied more between them both instead of "oh fuck you sakura single for life" then stumbles on hinata's love for him at THE VERY FUCKING END
Spacious Wheat
I at least prefer it to Sakura/Sasuke though.
I’m not saying NaruHina is *good* just better,
But that’s a low bar to begin with
Don't do that..

Better than Sasuke and Sakura though whole-heatedly agree

This video, and your video style is criminally slept on.
the emotional stakes in the arc were high and ya really feel it

Gentle and La Brava quickly became my absolute favorite in the series so far. I've always loved the joke villian and this is just another great one
I absolutely despise festival arcs and things of that nature, but these two characters make it worth it.
He is just wholesome and I love him for it
Gentle and La Brava became from my least favourite villain to my second and arguably favourite villain (Stain's my favourite) and one of my favourite characters in my hero academia. I really liked how MHA didn't just add a half ass twist like Gentle never liked La Brava and was just manipulating her like so many other shows and movies do and rather built on their relationship.
I guess I relate to characters who desperately want to get recognition but never get any and suicidal loners spending their time on the internet
Uhh, Stain is a Vigilante.
I swear this man does his homework days on end to make videos like this

So La Brava quirk is a tier up from the power of friendship

about working hard, i dont agree with you, the hero exam isnt just how good you are using your quirk, but also, grades as well, not everyone is good at grades, there is ppl who are born with no capabilities such as pass into a super high value test for only the best.we have many examples of that, ppl with amazing quirks and desires not been part of the class A, but mineta been able to.
lyn mineta has a good quirk though. It just has a high skill ceiling What the hell is someone like Todoroki or Aizawa or Midnight gonna do against him?
