@rinkiakepapa5625 Quota systems will always be wrong. Teams need to be selected on performance and ability. Not skin colour. They could have easily have put their resources into getting young black kids to play the game and the "proper representation" would have happened organically in time. Instead they dropped white players because of their skin colour and destroyed the team.
I actually disagree with most people, I think a quota system is wrong, you pick your best side, picking a player over another because of anything other than cricket is unfair. They should have focused on getting more participation amongst black people at a grassroots level, rather than messing with team selection
Those were glory days from 1997 till 2001, when Zimbabwe played their best cricket ever. Those wonderful Flower Brothers, Alastair Campbell, Neil Johnson, The Whittalls, Rennies, Stuart Carlisle, Craig Wishart, Blignaut, Marillier, Brandes, Olonga will forever live in our hearts. Thanks for the Wonderful memories, Champions!
As someone who is pretty new to cricket, this explains a lot. I was wondering why a full ICC member was so bad. I had no idea about the politics behind it. Thanks so much for this video, mate.
Superb video. You are so talented. I love how you cover all bases. Mugabe’s negative impact on the country in general and how it impacted cricket. Well well done.
Please make a video on how, after 2007 ODI WC failure, the BCCI + coaches + Selectors + Captain + team strategies changed the fortunes, and we ended up getting such a dynamic and young team ready to win the 2011 World cup. Seven players from the Squad for 2007 WC were replaced for the 2011 WC 1. Rahul Dravid = Virat Kohli 2. Sourav Ganguly = Gautam Gambhir 3. Dinesh Karthik = Yusuf Pathan 4. Robin Uthappa = Suresh Raina 5. Irfan Pathan = Ashish Nehra 6. Ajit Agarkar = Piyush Chawla 7. Anil Kumble = Ravichandran Ashwin The players who were retained from the 2007 WC squad for the 2011 WC Squad were 1. Sachin Tendulkar 2. MS Dhoni 3. Virender Sehwag 4. Yuvraj Singh 5. Harbhajan Singh 6. Munaf Patel 7. Sreesanth 8. Zaheer Khan In the lead up to the 2011 wc, in a 3 way competition between Raina, Kohli and Rohit for the middle order batter slot, Rohit had missed out. Similarly, how did Indian cricket end up discovering those 7 new faces, assign them specific roles in the ODI setup, give them a long enough run to test them, and finally select only those new faces who have done well in the interim period. The journey and revolution of England from 2015 to 2019 is very much well documented. I feel India also did something similar, it was a huge innovation and revolution for the Indian ODI team between a disastrous WC and a successful WC. Please make a video on the journey of the Indian team between those two world cups
Great content. You're the only UA-cam channel that i've subscribed with bell icon. I hope you get many more audience and followers. Would love to see if you start podcasts too on cricket history.
@@rohandante You must be Indian. They usually give such excuses when their team loses badly. The 'Rest of the World XI' were interested, but just weren't good enough to trouble the Aussies.
hey man, absolutely love your analysis and explanation of so many external factors around the game, your videos make me love cricket even more, I think for your next video you should do an analysis of Bangladesh crickets downfall, this team was on the rise from 2015-2019 but have nowhere near reached that kind of success since then. P.S: the effort you put into these videos is clearly reflective in the quality of them, I think you deserve a lot more views and subs
Flower Brothers, Olonga, Heath Streak, Campbell, Hamilton Masakadza, Bendon Taylor are few legends I remember and Pommie mbangwa more with his commentary stint now.
good video. it's hard to tackle a topic like the racism here in zimbabwe and some other countries that used to be colonies.. because white families did and some still do benefit from colonisation, but some use it as an excuse

A very shallow video riddled with inaccuracies and assumptions. The same old story where everyone talks about pre 2004 Zim as if they were World champions. I won't bother to detail all the wrong parts, but i'll just pick out a few here 1. Zimbabwe have never beaten Australia or SA in a test match. 2. The history of discontent goes back to when Zim got its test status. So many black players were denied even the chance to play FC cricket 3. 8 December 2001: A zim team that had Carlisle, Flower brothers and Streak was bowled out for 38 in an ODI vs the same SL team. When the new team was bowled out for 35, they broke the old team's record. This is the same tour that they lost all 3 test matches, 2 by an innings. CONTEXT. However, like all others, you love to push this narrative that the standards fell so bad when the rebels left. If scoring 3 runs more against that mighty SL is what you call higher standards then i give up
I remember as a kid enjoying watching players like Flower brothers, Olonga, Heath, and Campbell. It's sad what happened to Zimbabwe cricket.
Murray Goodwin / David Houghton

This feels like the commentary of a man who is concerned with cricket and cricket alone.
Unless one was a cronie of Mugabe, one struggles to see how it was any better for anyone else outside of cricket either.

How did that benefit them?
I know it's tough. I know it could take a lot of of you.. But could you do a story on South Africa cricket who had a similar story a few years back?
Ray Price was a top class left arm spinner who was part of the player rebellion.
If Williams, Ervine, Raza retire in the next 2 yeara, Zimbabwe will be on Kenya level. We cant beat Uganda and Namibia now.
