There is more saponin in the roots. You take a small part of root, rinse it and peel it like a potato and pound it to activate it. soak the pulp, it's ready when amber colored. Best shampoo ever.
That’s amazing. I planted one by my pool for an ornamental addition. My husband hates it. I can inform him of the wonderful properties this amazing plant carries.
Oh my gosh thank you for sharing. People around my area is destroying this plants. I’m the only one that takes care of it bc I have two plants in my yard. However I have six of them on my property. Now that I know how beneficial it is I will not let people destroy them(not on my watch😂) 🙏🙏👍👍👍😘

Yes i like this plant but my yuccas have really take over and theyre BIG. About 20 feet high with thick woody trunks. Triming branches off them is like cutting big trees.

The roots must be peeled before cooking
The peel contains cyanogens/cyanide

Chur Bob cheers for the vid, an amazing plant , it thrives here in NZ bro aparntly about 15 years ago they came into fashion as a low maintaince ornamemtal plant, and were quite expensive too, now days we have come to know how easily they can be cut down / trimmed and plonk the of cut in a hole and then another one will grow, often see them on the side of the road out side a propertey cause its common knoledge about the easy transplant, quick tip , do not plant them close to foot path or car port because they are sharp to brush past, they Thrive every where, love the dry n ruggard, and lastly when trimming them, dont be scared to really hack them back, they will grow back, succulent family i belive, this video is great , thanks for the vid , ive come to the conclusion that the Amazing Aztecs 100 percent loved and knew the plant well , chur Bob thanks Dig

To get the soap part removed from the fibers, just boil the leaves. Much easier than scrapping. Then save the fibers.
When your done, just save the boiled water & wash up after doing everything the hard way. 😉

Got 12 stalks this year. It's quite a specimen in PA. Not sure how old it is, over 15.... I just use loppers. Haven't seen ants, but garden spiders will make webs on it.
For years we had these yuccas in our front yard in New York, and also in Madison, Wisconsin, and despaired of getting rid of them, because they are so incredibly hard to really kill, with their powerful and extensive root systems, etc. And they flower so briefly and then have ugly brown seed pods when all is said and done. . . . But wow, such amazingly useful plants. Who knew?

I just learned from another video that it's the sugar cane of the desert. The more mature stock, just before all the pods fall off, has sweet fibrous pulp like sugar cane and can be fermented into alcohol. Plants are amazing.
The local yucca here, stalks turn to wood as the pods mature that's why it works for spindle in friction fire.

I planted one a few years ago and it grew into a monster!!! Took it apart yesterday and replanted 2 side shoots - have about 4 more and no room for them 🙄. I came here looking for info on how to cook the roots, they looked edible, white, thick, fleshy. Learned a few new things, but how do I cook the roots????

Yucca filamentosa wikipedia mentions, "The leaves, stems and roots of this plant can be used to stun fish.[12] The Cherokee used it for this purpose.[13]" Perhaps cooking the pulp will reduce any toxins, however it's mostly in the outer bark and leaves; and perhaps exposure to using the leaves as a topical usage wouldn't be as dangerous as ingestion.
Mullen plant seeds are used for that.
@@apemanslab1468 The Yucca (the one in the video) has edible and medicinal parts that are often confused with the root of the Cassavea (Yuca), but otherwise also have toxic components. Even mushrooms are toxic unless cooked, and many plants pose health risks if not properly prepared or understood.
I get a bit sick when i chop yuccas. Do yuccas contain some poison in their sap to protect themselves?
The skin on the root contains cyanide. You can make shampoo out of the root. You could probably boil the root and eat it as well.
I viewed a video earlier where it was demonstrated how to make sandles. Use the pulp to sweeten your coffee, if yoy have any.

Love your vid, hope you don't mind a little constructive criticism. There are many varieties of yacca, not all are the same. If you don't show correct identification, then please include the scientific name so people can look up haw to identify themselves. Not all are edible, do your research people.
