Thank you! My Yucca plant is 32 years old and is over 10' tall in my office at work. Too large to transport, I can't take it with me when I retire. I feel confident now that I can take part of it with me!
Love your shirt! My wife is from Costa Rica and she's going nuts to have this plant in the States; last week her friend spot one in a garden's house not far away from us, so we went today to talk to the owner and we came home with 3 cuttings. They eat the flowers in different preparations. It;s kind a National dish in C.R. Good tips thanks!
Great Videos Phil. Thanks for being so enthusiastic. I live in London UK and a good 50 years ago my mum planted a 1 ft high Yucca pulled from a small pot. It is now a five stemmer with the main trunk about 20ft high. Everybody here said it would die in the first year, with all the winter frosts and snow we get here every year, but this great plant has proved them all wrong. Thanks to your videos I am now stripping off the lower leaves and making cuts. This plant must go on to make more. About 10 years ago I noticed never seen before very different branches with tiny berries on them growing in the upper part of the main stem, about 15 feet up. Some have since shrivelled and died but newer similar branches are growing even higher in the canopy amoung the usual sword-like leaves and look very green and healthy. Is this a forty years cycle or such like, or just something that happens in mature Yuccas?
The Yucca plant we had in our garden was snapped by the storms earlier this year. I just put it to one side before I decided what to do with it. Thank you for your video, I’ll replant it and see if it survives. 👍
Question about stripping hail-damaged leaves off an existing plant. How far up the stem is too far? I see you cleared these right up to the full white stem. Can I do that to an in-ground plant without killing it off? I’d like to really renovate the plant well and good. Thanks- love the video and the back-story.
Your videos are such a help! Thank you for posting!!! Did I see an aloe plant against the fence? Approx @ 2:53 Not sure if it’s aloe but it looks like an octopus at first glance. What a great shape!! 😍
Very helpful advice. I have had a yucca plant for 20 years+ I am in no way a gardener but I'm glad to know my yucca has been looked after well, I honestly don't have clue, After watching, I now know i I was watering enough but not too much. I know yucca are very good for low maintenance. I am having it repotted very soon and hope to let it grow more. I do have a question, the size of the plant is small, would repotting in larger pots over time, develop into a larger plant. Or would taking a cutting be an idea? Thank you
Very informative! I've had one for a couple of years, but I never cut back any leaves. Is that why the trunk is still so thin? Also, could you have used the pieces you cut off of the cuttings to propagate? I would think that October is too late to propagate. (Mine is indoors.)
@@philatv thanks! This was my main question. Here yucca's only grow in-house and I found one on the green trash. I repotted it and got rid of the small flies that came with it ...👀 And now I will trim the two upper parts of and try to make three good plants from them and the mother stem. Nothing lost of it doesn't work out! But I sure hope it does.
I've never cut my leaves off either and the trunk is very thin also. I'd like an answered to that question also. I repotted in the spring but feel that the pot isn't big enough. I thought I was going to lose it be because the trunk was so thin and the leaves on the bottom started turning yellow. I had to prop/hold it up with a stick and sring for a while while it got strong. Mine is over 10 ft tall and I have to cut it down which I had never done. I'm glad I found this video.
Let me just jump in to say that they prefer asandy soil, a succulent mix you can buy at your local nursery. I bought some to repot my echeveria Perle von Nurnberg. It came in a small squarish green plastic grower's pot and I transferred it to a terra cotta pot only 1 size larger straight into the pot with some Miricle-Gro cacus and succulent soil especially blended for these type plants. It couldn't be happier!
I have 2 I bought Been ground about 4 yrs but it's bushing out instead of growing upwards there about 4ft tall and very thick and bushy how do I get it to grow tall not wide hoping to get it to grow like 15/20 ft or taller Thank you!!
So I pulled some yucca plants ….about 8 from an area that I turn my trucks around in and I’m asking your recommendation as to what I should do to have the greatest chance of success for keeping them alive….bucket of water or replant them in dirt? I’ll post the video to my UA-cam channel…Native Images….so you can see what I’m dealing with….thank you….
Great video. Thanks... I'd like to know if you can leave the cuttings sit for a few days before planting. I can collect some cuttings but it may not be for about a week or so. I live in Australia in a temperate climate
Oh darn I'm going on a hunt I guess! I noticed some neighbors in my area have them, I thought yuccas were native to mojave desert? Do you know if this is more of a plant that's sold in FL?
These are desert plants... I have the NATIVE American yucca & mine grow in MANY different soil types... I have mainly clay soil. (VIRGINIA ZONE 8a) and have a the yucca that's NOT tall. It's low growing and grows pups. A very hardy plant, for sure. You could grow these in any soil type mix. Just don't let them stay wet.
Hi, I am so glad I came across you. My Yucca plant needs some help. It was doing do well for months by my window. I had moved it to a more shade area for Christmas. And when I moved it back by the window I'm not sure if I had over watered it or not but it started to turn yellow and fall over. Can you please please help my yucca🙏
I found a dead/dying potted yucca by the dumpster and I took it inside to inspect it. All three trunks were rotted but they each had a single branch with a few leaves that were still green. I cut the small branches in hopes of propagating them. Should I just stick them straight into some fresh dirt like you did?
You can also put it into water and it will sprout I had mine for 3 yrs and its beautiful I can't kill it it gets cold here in Atlanta but out of 70 plants it's the only plant I can keep outside all year long
I have a question. My yucca died . It was all my fault. But out of the dead mother tree two pups sprouted. Im seriously afraid to repot. I don’t want them to die. Help.
If its growing pups then the rootball is alright . It the top died just cut it off and all the energy will go to the pups.. good luck and thanks for watching. PHILA
I recently chop the head off becos the stem is broken and tip of the leaves turning brown. And I found a center of one stem is brown. Should I seal it with wax?
I was just given one that was planted in the soil like you have. I went to give it a bigger pot and it had 0 roots. So i put it in a tall vase with water. Is that okay or should i just put it in the pot with soil?
It takes many years of practice. I will get more detailed on how I do it on my next video but if you look closely on I hold the leaf and pull down with two fingers

i think those little thing are seeds I've never seen seeds before I'd try and plant them..
thanks for watching
Exactly which species is this? Sorry if I missed it, but what’s the formal name?
The Yucca plant we had in our garden was snapped by the storms earlier this year. I just put it to one side before I decided what to do with it. Thank you for your video, I’ll replant it and see if it survives. 👍
Sobrevivió??
👍
got to try this, have a few someone dumped. another neighbour put some aloe veras out once and got me hooked on those and succulents.
You're awesome! Thank you for such a great video. Really helped me with my Yucca woes 😊
Great that you are putting these back into the desert fantastic stuff
Hi very helpful as I have just got one great video thanks for sharing 👍 😊 🙋♀️

Thanks so much for the amazing info on Yucca
Is this the same for all yuccas? Mine are short but huge they have tall white flowers occasionally.
Izote😊

YES if you cut the top off it'll grow babies

stick them in some water and you can get roots that way
Thanks for the video. What on earth are you going to do with SIXTY yuccas?
Is there any special treatment to do where you cut them for the main stalk or just leave it bare.😊
i’ve just stripped off some of the leaves and i do not do anything to the cut not even rooting hormone
what can the soil you used?
Did you ever figure out what kind of soil to use question mark because I have 2 Yucca plants that I need to repot navigate.
How many times it need to be water?
Are these hard to find in So. Cal?? I asked my local nursey they didn't have any. I want one lol
i’ve only seen them for sale one time at lowe’s
Oh darn I'm going on a hunt I guess! I noticed some neighbors in my area have them, I thought yuccas were native to mojave desert? Do you know if this is more of a plant that's sold in FL?
What kind of soil did you use? I am new to plants and I don't know what you mean by rich soil
Thank you🌈🙏✝️God bless you and your loved ones😇
Hello... what’s the soil composition?
These are desert plants...
I have the NATIVE American yucca & mine grow in MANY different soil types... I have mainly clay soil. (VIRGINIA ZONE 8a) and have a the yucca that's NOT tall. It's low growing and grows pups. A very hardy plant, for sure.

Hi just wondering if the cuttings could go straight into the garden instead of pots
i live in L.A i do put them right int the dirt but the don’t really grow when it’s cold out. they are just now starting to wake up.
Is it normal for the yuca plan leaves in the bottom gets dry and what do I do?
yes that’s totally normal
i stop off my leaves twice a year. makes the really grow
Great video! how many times a month should I water them????do i have to have them on the sun?????
3-4 weeks I heard in another video and not direct un.
sun*
What kind of soil are you using? Don't they get too much water outside, doesn't that lead to the roots rotting?
I just use whatever kind of soil I have laying around then I try to add some sand. It gets very hot around here so they dry out fast
''Hi! How often do you water after placing the cuttings in the soil pots to root? Thanks!
I like to keep my soil very damp so I water every other day
Hi very helpful to me as I have just got one great video thanks for sharing 👍 😊 🙋♀️
Yes they will keep for quite i while.. sometimes for weeks if they don't dry out

please help i got a large yucca but all leaves trurn yellow. the soil is super dry although i water it once a month. what do i do
i would water it everyday until it gets better. they do love water
Thanks for sharing. How much watering is required?
I live in so cal and it's very hot. I water alot until they are established then I cut back
Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks you. This video will help me heaps.
Will the mother plant still grow & survive after cutting
yes in fact i gave away a lot of my younger trees so i can start propagating again since i have so many new pups growing
Good job 👍👍
You have a really nice voice.
Hi Phil. Is it a Yucca Elephantipes or Spanish dagger yucca?
Looks like it to me.
the sawn-off tree do you have to seal the wound with wax?
I do not seal them as I want to ends to dry out and shrivel up.
What state are you in.
California

lots of wasted stem, if you cut them to about 6" and put them in an inch of water they'll get roots and shoots
So the stem without the leaves will also grow into a new plant?
Do you sell any of the pups?
Great!
Grow so easily in sydney australia. Its a shame they cant be eaten. Would be easy life 😮
I have a question. My yucca died . It was all my fault. But out of the dead mother tree two pups sprouted. Im seriously afraid to repot. I don’t want them to die. Help.

Gloves, chief.
Que bonitas yucas yo tengo una pero casi no crece..
What happen if you put straight into outside ground
Hello thank you for sharing done watching please resback thank you so much, 🙏
I was just given one that was planted in the soil like you have.
I went to give it a bigger pot and it had 0 roots. So i put it in a tall vase with water.
Is that okay or should i just put it in the pot with soil?
How to propogate with pups
My yucca cuts the skin, I see you cut it with your hands and no gloves 🧤.
It takes many years of practice. I will get more detailed on how I do it on my next video but if you look closely on I hold the leaf and pull down with two fingers
I poked the hell outta myself, but I just stay to the bottom.
T
the way u say yucca bothers me its supposed to be said “you-kah”
Is there any special treatment to do where you cut them for the main stalk or just leave it bare.😊
