This video literally convinced me to buy an ipad pro just so I could use this app. I currently use a desktop with a cintiq and separate monitor for my work. I wanted to work on the go and tried a cintiq laptop thing and a surface Pro 4, both of which I *hated.* The menus and toolbars and color selectors took up the whole screen and I needed a keyboard separately just to use short cuts because so many commands took forever to select otherwise. And everything was tiny. The programs were just designed for a much bigger screen... Like my desktop set up. Plus, if you need to juggle a tablet, pen, and keyboard, its not very mobile or a nice user experience! This is so, so much better for the screen size.
It's true, Procreate is so streamlined it's the perfect digital canvas
Procreate is also why I wanted an iPad! I just got my Apple Pencil too and I am so excited

Buy the IPad Air 4 instead. You can use the Apple Pencil 2nd generation and it’s 10” tool. Plus much cheaper than the pro.
Thank you for a really great class. I've paid for 3 Procreate beginner classes online and none of them taught anything about how to get started, the different controls, how to set your pencil, nothing about learning how to get started. Although they were supposed to be beginner classes, that started right in as if the students knew all of that already. I love that you assumed a beginner wouldn't know any of that how to get started stuff and went over all of it so well. Thank you so so much!!!
Paying for online classes isn't always the best idea to be honest.

Hey James, do you have a screen protector on your iPad? I just got my iPad Pro and have been following your tutorials. I was wondering if you were drawing right on the glass? Or using a matte screen protector like paperlike? I am curious to see if you have a preference or not.
I draw straight on the glass but I have ordered a paperlike
I have paper like matte protector and absolutely love it, personally prefer it over the original screen

This was very helpful. I really only do basic sketches that I upload to my channel. Is there a way to draw in symmetry? Like draw something on one side and it draws the same thing on the other side?

That was an extremely comprehensive introduction to the app. Enjoyed it very much and I must say it has persuaded me to go down the route of Procreate as opposed to Fresco. Looking forward to see what Ver 5 brings as there are a few good features I see in Fresco, not in Procreate e.g. masking and live brushes.

Procreate is €10 upfront. Adobe software if like €50 a month. Procreate is fun, using a mouse is no fun.

Thank you! I didn’t know about pressure curve, and I always had trouble mimicking your strokes, you seemed to get lines when I didn’t, now I know why.

My iPad doesn't support apple pencil but when I tried the pencil at the apple store I noticed the pressure issue so that's gonna be a really helpful tip for when I buy a new iPad in August. I have a suggestion for a future video: May be you could do tutorials on ideas of how to utilize the cool new features in Procreate such as liquefy etc. in order to enhance the painting?

One advantage to keeping the finger drawing on is with shapes, it allows for the same line thickness all the way around with any brush you're using.

Thank you for video great stuff. I am not a artist but and trying to learn that is why I bought the Ipad. Hope to learn but will be starting on baby channel lol. Your designs are amazing it is crazy. 1 thing is I don't know why when I make a circle say and I fill it the whole page is colored. I make sure the circle or shape I should say is closed but still won't fill. If I go around the shape a few times then it will fill. It seems if a line is thin or like a texture brush it will not fill. Am I doing something wrong?
Diane K there are pixels wich if are left undrawed will make an unclosed circle byt they are barely seen

I mean, I know how to draw on a real paper I know the basics on digital art on procreat so I just have to buy an iPad!! And probably will take me 1 year. 😂
keep at it the transition isn't that difficult
If you're used to paper you can get a paper like screen protector which gives a paper like texture to the iPad which gives a more rough feeling to the iPad instead of the free gliding feeling.

Help...how do I enable “show touches” in Procreate for the purpose of creating videos using screen record. I want to be able to see where I touch the screen and I know in my other programs that I use(LumaFusion and affinity) it is in settings called “show touches” If anyone knows please let me know.

Can procreate be used on anytype of ipad? What is the best type of screen protector to use?

While Im pretty sure Procreate is available on any iPad, the Apple Pencil is only available for selected iPads. Apple Pencil Generation 1 is compatible with several different iPads from the iPad Gen 9 to iPad Air Gen 3. Generation 2 is only available on the 11” and 12” Pro. Hope this helped

atm, I use ibis paint on an android tablet and when I draw a lot of the times I end up with 63 layers or more, and its really bad if I'm working on a large canvas. so my tablet just kinda panics and the app crashes. I can't wait to get my new I pad so I can use this app instead.

Stop mispronouncing the word Etcetera. Look at it. Look at the second letter: it's T, not K. So obviously T is pronounced as T, so it's eTcetera, not "ekcetera". It's Latin, but T is still pronounced as T, duh.

iPad Pro 11inch, WiFi and 64gb (the cheapest option) starts at $799 and the Apple Pencil second generation starts at $129 I believe. That’s the base price and it goes up from there

Many thanks for tutorial. I followed along and switched into Procreate at various stages and I am very impressed. The only problem I had was the disable touch actions. This stopped my Vidence stylus from drawing lines!!!
I have returned the stylus and bought one that supports palm rejection. All good now.

The use of colours is a little different in digital compared to real paint. With real painting I would only use rich versions of red blue and yellows and mix them to make all the others

Big fan - you’re my favorite creative teacher. The only minor request I have is to somehow share brush size and opacity better during your tutorials. Sometimes I have a hard time figuring out what the brush looks like.

So I was doing a little more research and it looks like the pixelmator pro will do everything I needed to do. But I don’t see it in the AppStore for my iPad. Is there an iPad version? Or if I purchase it for my Mac PC will the app share on my iPad? Do I have to buy two different versions? I’m a little confused how this works. I am interested in using my Apple pencils and drawing and doing photo edits on my iPad. I would like to also have the ability to work on my Mac desktop or laptop. Can you please advise me?

what canvas size + dpi do you use/recommend? i'm struggling to find a good one. i just use screensize but there's gotta be a better option right? Because screensize gives you low dpi. Can i use screensize and make the dpi higher? I’m new to this
Please help me as I'm stuck on colour fill and just cannot get past it, I'm doing the exact same thing every time and don't know why I'm getting different but I'm sure there is a simple answer! I draw a shape making sure it's complete with no gaps, I either do it freehand or press down so it tidies the shape, I click on my colour circle, chose a colour, click on the circle again so it selects the colour, drag the circle to the shape I've just drawn and sometimes it fills the circle and others the whole screen, can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?

Out of curiosity, what version are you using here? I have version 4.3.3 build 6898f3f64d on my iPad Pro 3 and some of the things don't coincide with what I am seeing on your screen. Especially when dealing with shapes.

Just bought a Pro and procreate. Is there a way to draw on and lower levels? I use it a lot for shading in photoshop. Be lost without it.
Yeah you can drag layers around and draw under other layers
