Nice , I like the orange and black , looks just like the stone flies we have here on the Madison. Thanks for sharing.
Davie, I love this fly! Thanks for this video. I especially appreciated the technique for tying the foam tail.
Ooooh I like this one. Thank you for some great ideas on this one.
Davie,You are the best tier I personally have ever seen! you make it look easy, but art takes work and you ve mastered your craft!!
Davie. Great looking fly! I'm amazed that when it looks like there's no more room for material left at the head, you are able to attach a clump of deer hair and make it look simple and natural looking. Incredible skills you have Sir!
Davie, that fly looked fishable with just the eyes, antennas & thread! all your materials & colors blend so well. full of techniques too! thanks!
Hi Davie, this is a very realistic natural pattern… certainly worth tying for my Fly Box, regards, Wayne
Thanks Davie a lovely tying. I walked under Hyndford Bridge on the Clyde a month ago and the Gadger shucks on the walls were in abundance hence my looking for a fly.
I have fished the gadger up there for 60+ years with float and size 18 hooks with great success but now I'll try to tie some for the fly line next season. Cheers, Big Davie.
Great tie Davie; You 've made a quite complex tie seem doable; Thanks for taking the time to explain each step so clearly; You are an inspiration to us thread winders; Thanks Again
Here in Alberta, Canada our fishing season is drawing to a close so it’s time to re-stock the fly box. Your patterns will be on my to do list this winter when it’s -30.
It's a beauty, Davie... a lot of fun to watch. Thank you.
Mike
I really like this pattern Davie. I think I'm going to tie a bunch this year. I believe in your bugs, and this pattern is going to bring me back around to dries again. Thank you for this great pattern.

I'm so far south another yard and I'd be in the sea. No gadgers here. But I'm going to tie one of these monsters in the hope that someone spots it in my box. A lockdown fly to wow onlookers.
Another masterpiece!
Fantastic!
Awesome fly, thnx.
really nice!
lindo el trabajo muy bueno, felicitaciones
Davie please share the Fulling Mill wide gap hook you used for this fly. Love this pattern and giving it a go. Much thanks.
Hi MrLSwanson,
I have attached a link to the size 8 hook that I would use to tye this style of fly as I like one with a short shank but with wide gape though if you can't find this one then just use what you have as it will still work fine..I'm glad you liked the fly..

amazing fly so realistic must tye some up do you think this would work in waters where gadgers are not present
hi davie ,, brilliant if i could do the gadger like that i would be scared to use it encase i lost it ,,i use to spend hours on the Clyde catching them then trying to keep them in a tin ,,then trying to put them on a hook ,,this looks deadly wish i could have tried them 30 years back ,,lol
Great dressing Davie .
Threw us Americans a little Bone there with this one. Thanks a lot. Quick question however. For dressing the "salmon fly " version, besides the color of the foam , and mono eyes, is it the same material list as the one you tied here?
Warm regards from Italy,
Colbee
wow, truly great...thats nothing new on this channel! Thanks for teaching us that one. Can you work up a nice damsel or dragon for lake fishing? im in Kamloops Canada and the ice is still on for two more months but were already tying.
Hi R C,
I have a couple of damsel nymph patterns on youtube which are very good patterns here in the uk, so give them a go and I'm sure you'll not go wrong...

Davie, I'm living in the States and would love to get some of the wax you use, what brand
is it, and any idea where I might find some?
Hi Stanley,
The wax I use comes from a company called Veniards they are a wholesale company and have stockists around the world....I have attached a link to their website for you to see and as well if you look at the stockist's list you may find someone close to you that may be able to get you some...

On the stonefly, when you made the body, you left a very long tag on the thread but I missed why you did that? Seems to me you cut it off when you attached the body to the hook. Very nice fly - would float forever. Off to the bench. Thanks
Hi Bob Fowler,
I leave them on so that I can tye them on to the shank of the hook as they hold the foam body together as you said...As I said I rarely tye Stoneflies so I'm glad you liked it...

How and where can I get the tool
To make the hopper legs?
Hi Chris,
I have attached a link to the actual crochet needle I used to tye the knots on the pheasant tail fibres for you to see..

Has to be an easier fly to the than this Davie this would take me an hour to tye
Hi Davie. Since this is a dry fly why did you add the crystal flash on top of the fly?
Hi mlevesque33,
It should reflect the light a wee bit and as well they will sit at times in the surface film rather than high on top. I'm not a great fan though of too much flash in a wing as I've cut it off other patterns many times and found the fly to work better...
