Interesting Ben 👏 I always preferred my vomero 15 to the Pegasus 37/38…. It felt like a shoe that the Pegasus “should have been” and the Pegasus should have evolved… but it hasn’t. Good to hear the 17 is a solid option
Vomero 14 was better than the Pegasus at the time. It was like a premium Pegasus, a responsive long run shoe. I had two pairs of them. The problem with that shoe was hot upper especially in the toebox and the fact that its midsole "died" quite quickly. After that there was a big change, 15 was totally different. In my opinion that shoe was made for ultra running which Vomero traditionally was 'til the v13. It was soft in heel and didn't feel as responsive as the previous version. That is why I preferred the React Infinity run. When the Novablast was launched, I didn't like to run in Vomeros anymore.
@@TimGrose yes Vomero is a premium option, whereas Pegasus is the average shoe for most purposes. It doesn't excel in anything but you can wear it for everything. That is why it has been a popular shoe for example among high school kids who can do everything from football to running and from gym to going to movies in that shoe. Parents buy one pair shoe that can do it all. The same applies to people who don't do sports at all although Hoka Clifton is threatening Nike Pegasus as a shoe of choice in dog walking and hypermarket/mall visiting. Pegasus has also been better than Vomero at gyms where people might wear the same shoe for classes, weight lifting, crosstrainer, running on treadmill and cycling. Recent models have provided quite good lateral stability and grip which is good in classes like HIIT. There are also much more stores that sell Pegasus and big chains put it in campaigns. We need also running shoes that are often available in double-digit prices. Most consumers don't want to try something new. They know what they wear and when they need a new pair, they want to go to a store and feel like that they can afford to buy a pair again.
Maybe some more obscure picks here...but for years my go-to daily shoe is the Altra Escalante. Models 2.5 and 3 are among my favorites. Also really enjoyed the Topo Cyclone 2 from last year. Super light....and very comfortable for daily miles.
My favourite daily is the Puma Velocity Nitro (first iteration). Got it when it first came out (for about 45 quid!). Wore it out. Then tried various others. Novablast 3, Brooks ghost, pegs, Reebok floatride. None of them felt as good as the puma velocity nitro. So a couple of weeks ago, I hopped on to Vinted and snaffled a pair of the version 1 for 25 quid brand new. Absolutely delighted.
Run 5-10k's usually. Had the Vomero 14's (best shoe I ever had) and recently bought the 17's to replace them. Glad to see others who like this line too!
Thanks Ben. Would love to get back into a Nike and this one looks tempting but going to wait for the imminent launch of the Puma velocity nitro 3 and see how it goes down with the reviewers before making choice.
I’ve worn Pegasus since the 36s - but I’m finding them a bit stiff now. I have the invincible 2s, which I love, but I find they’re not stable enough for every day. The Vomeros sound like a happy medium! Thanks for a great review!
Vomero 14 was probably my favourite all time shoe, though the outsole wouldn't last the longest. Went through several pairs, and have one pair left still! Vomero 13 was good to me too, though quite a different shoe. Helped a lot when I was suffering with heel issues and kept me moving.
I had the Vomero 14 a few years back. I really enjoyed them, but struggle to justify the extra price over the Pegasus for an everyday shoe. If I can get them on discount then I might get another pair of Vomero's. They did last me more miles than any other show has.
Bought the Vomero 17 a couple days of ago. Had my first run today. 8k. Felt s bit weird. My last shoe was the Brooks Ghost 18 so the the Nike Vomero is from another galaxy. I felt running on cushions. I think I need some more milrage to have a better opinion about the shoe
Very interesting! You manage to cover all the main facts AND add your “meta” comments about who the shoe would be for and how it fits in the rotation while being entertaining and only needing 8 min for it: great content - thank you!
Hi Ben. I just bought this vomero 17 but I got a women size 39 as 40 is big for me. I would like to know if there is no downside in women shoes and if its just the same with men shoes. Thank you for your feedback.
Hi Ben, first of all, thank you for all the great videos that you produce, they're all great! I've got one question which is: why do you never try any Adidas shoes? Are they all a straight no for your type of feet/runs?
I'm a Nike guy when it comes to racing shoes and tempo shoes but I think they're not doing great in the daily trainer area. I tried these but ending up returning them. To me, they felt like a more dull and heavier Saucony Triumph 21. The upper is too thick and the majority of the cushioning is placed in the heel and overall, it doesn't really feel like ZoomX, the midfoot strike is pretty non-responsive and doesn't feel very cushioned. I think this shoe might be good for a heavy runner with a heavy heel strike but for me, I just didn't enjoy it at all, as compared to the Saucony Triumph which also has plenty of cushioning but with a better upper and a nicer ride.
Totally agree regarding the thick upper and heel cushion. The upper is too thick and it gets so hot after a few miles. I am planning to return it and get Saucony/Hoka.
I kind of wish this would have popped up before I bought the 41's, which are comfortable, but the heel is a bit stiff compared to what I prefer or am used to. I love the Invincible runs but the 3's have terrible heel slip for me. So settled for the 41's. Didn't even know the Vomero's were a thing until today.
Heel counter on the Invincible 3 is a travesty, especially for a shoe generally appreciated for it's cushioned and supportive upper. The rest of the upper is not great either, in my opinion. I am not a fan of the plastic upper with no give. The shoe as a whole just doesn't fit my running style. Try using the runner's knot/loop to better anchor your heel in the shoe.
I am in the hunt for some new shoes and checking all your shoe videos. I have some pegasus turbo 2 for speed work and some pegasus 38 or something which are 3 years old. Would you recommend the pegasus plus over the vomero 17? Would you recommend both the pegasus plus and Superblast over the vomero 17 and novablast 4? Great videos Ben as usual. Thanks
Quick weird question, but what is the exact length of your foot, because if i look up the UK 11 in cm its 30cm and my feet is 29.2 cm. Not sure if i should take a size up or take the UK 11?
Would this be good for sprint training on the track (especially on a harder recortan track)? I've started to run sprints in my New Balance Rebel v3 that I used on the treadmill before for 2k and 5k and unfortunately it's way too roomy in the front, plus the lockdown is mediocre, so it's not stable enough for sprinting on a track.
Interesting. You seem to use “unbiased” in a bunch of titles now, but not all. Should we assume that if you don’t say “unbiased” that is in fact, biased?
I have bought the Vomero 17s because of your review and its great. Sizing Advice: My size for regular Nike Sneakers (AF 1) is 12.5 US. For the Vomeros I had to size up to US 13.
Great Vid! I just bought Vomero 17 today here in Nike Saudi Arabia.. can't wait to use it tomorrow. looks like a great alternate runners for my Pegasus 40.
Which nike would you use for training for a marathon? (I have now pegasus with 950km, so looking for new ones). First marathon was in september (4h48m42s). Training for Ghent Marathon now (24 march). Race shoe is now hoka rocket x2
My favorite shoes depends on the training Session I`m in. TempoTraining Nike Zoomfly 5 and Brooks Hyperion Max (looking forward fot the update this year) Intervalls Brooks Hyperion Tempo Long runs Brooks Adrenaline GTS 23 Threshold Hooka Arahi. For trails Nike wildhorse 8.
Great shoe, and perhaps the best colorway too. The gradient paintjob on the midsole with matching bottom layer of the upper peeking through the outer mesh is beautiful.
OK, just ordered them right now! Tried the another Nike shoe a couple of months ago and like it so will try to Vomero. Really want a pair of SuperBlasts's but unavailable in my size right now for less than $400 in Canada. Luckily, I am not breaking any land speed records or going to the Olympics! :-). Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi Ben. Great review. Just one question... You said you went half a size down to a UK 11, but on your reviews of the Pegasus 39 & and 40, you said for you a UK size 12 was perfect. I also have a Peg 39 for reference and am wondering if I should be ordering this Vomero in half a size down or a full size down? Thanks!
I was a long time wearer of Nike shoes but their trainers have been dead to me (except the Invincible 1 & 2. I switched last year to Saucony Triumphs and Speeds. Won’t get fooled again. Nothing worse than shelling out your hard earned money for something that brings no joy.
You are amazing and always love following along with you and your training and races! You seem to eat beans in your diet often. I know you are vegan so I was wondering if they ever interfere with your gut or digestive system during training...?? I'm pescitarian. Had to eliminate dairy and beans from my diet during marathon training because I became very sensitive to both... Thanks for sharing your tips. I'm always motivated by you and your enthusiasm!!
I had some years ago I didn’t realize they still existed. Mine may have been the 14 back in 2016? Before carbon plated existed I ran my first marathons in these 😆😆They’ve changed a lot and so has the price! I hate Pegs and these we so much better
Bought them the other day on Zalando for €115 which is about £100. I tend to use them for slower runs. For faster runs I use the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. I was able to pick both pairs up for €230 which is about £200. Bargain for 2 solid pairs of shoes with good grip and durability.
Hi Ben, for at least 10 years I'm been a member of the Brooks family: Adrenaline for roads and the GTX and now Cascadia for trails. But I notice that you are mostly use Asics and Nike. Any thoughts on Brooks? In these matters it is worth exploring different options or sticking to what you know if it does appear to be working?
I guess just because a shoe CAN last 800k, does not mean you should take it that far. Typically the midsole has lost a lot of protection and performance far before that. I think leg saving occurs most efficiently somewhere around 300ish (or less) miles on a pair of shoes.
Love the runs round the Old Royal Naval College.. if it's a good enough location for a blockbuster Hollywood movie or two it's certainly do well for a shoe review!!
Appreciate your reviews Ben, esp since you have a narrow heel like me (I remembered that correctly, yes?)! I'm looking for another shoe for rotation with my Sauconys and debated going back to the ASICS GT-2000 (wore them a few models ago) as I'm not thrilled with the ON cloud flyers I was talked into at the shoe store, lol. I don't like a lot of cushion, prefer the feel of the road but still have some support/cushion which is why I use my Guides a LOT. But again I need another comfy daily trainer and just cannot decide which way to turn. I loved my ADIDAS Adizero Boston 9s, but then they went to the more plush under foot, yuck. My head is swimming with so many options...your opinion? The heel lock down is HUGE for me, so when ppl have mentioned the GT-2000 have some slippage in the current model, I'm leery about going back to them. Wondering if I give Nike a try with these as I've not run in a Nike in many years. Appreciate your input...God bless, Megan

I liked the cushioning of the Vomero but I seemed to get shin splints every time I ran in them. Pegasus have also gone really stiff and non responsive (in wide fit anyway). Invincble didnt suit me either. I used to always wear nike but now feel none of their shoes suit me
Bought it but was too big. Wearing them around the house the cushion seemed nice but it didn't feel like it had much of a rocker. Sent them back and didn't buy the smaller size.
watching the review of both the pegasus 40 and this i dont know which one to get, the pair i get will be for longer runs, edging more for the vomero after this but still unsure, any help?
Honestly for the price or much less you can get the adidas boston 12, it has better foams overall, it is lighter better overall durability in the sole and you can use it all day like as a travel shoe.
I'm a Vomero runner for years now 😂. Tried some Brooks last year, but al returning already. First 50K in my new Vomero's were good, and I look forward to the next 550K
Hoka Mach 5 will be way less durable, depends what you want and how many shoes are in your rotation. If your going for just a one shoe daily trainer then vomero, otherwise maybe have a daily trainer (vomero, 1080, Pegasus) and then the Mach 5 as more of a speed shoe. Up to you tho.
Daily running shoes - rotating between Novablast 3 and Saucony Endorphin speed 3. For the muddy, wet and slippery days and parkruns - use Pegasus 39 shield
The sweet spot for me was the Vomero 13. I ran London in a pair of 3’s and Edinburgh in some 5s so have been there since the early days. I ended up with 5 boxes of the 13 and am now on my last pair 😢. The design then changed and I’ve not gone back past the 14. Might be time to return…
Interesting Ben 👏 I always preferred my vomero 15 to the Pegasus 37/38…. It felt like a shoe that the Pegasus “should have been” and the Pegasus should have evolved… but it hasn’t. Good to hear the 17 is a solid option
Price differentation I guess? If the Pegasus had the some foam(s) as a Vomero what would be the point of both.

My daily is the Pegasus 39’s. I love them. I even bought an extra pair for when I finish these.
But must admit the comer o sounds like a nice option.
Where do you get your running socks from? They always look really neat. Particularly the green ones.
Thanks Ben! My current daily is a pair of Asics Novablast 3 Lite
Those died after 220km for me, i expect peg/vomeros to last 4-5x that
Loving my Novablast 3, grip is terrible this time of year though
Daily running shoes - rotating between Novablast 3 and Saucony Endorphin speed 3.
For the muddy, wet and slippery days and parkruns - use Pegasus 39 shield
I need a replacement for my Nike Tempos...how do they compare
The sweet spot for me was the Vomero 13. I ran London in a pair of 3’s and Edinburgh in some 5s so have been there since the early days. I ended up with 5 boxes of the 13 and am now on my last pair 😢. The design then changed and I’ve not gone back past the 14. Might be time to return…
my current daily is the new Asics Novablast 4
My favorite daily shoes is Hoka Arahi 6. Light, comfortable, and stable. Still cannot find other shoes as good as this for my daily run.
Have you tried the Winflo 9s? Great daily trainer and on par with the pegasuses imo
