I love this moto!!!!! thanks for report. :-D I'm Italian, and I live right on Lake Como, where Mandello del Lario is located. I am very sorry to hear that the network of workshops abroad is not as advanced and efficient as here in Italy (moreover, here where I live is a special case). We often hear about this problem abroad, and I hope Piaggio will do something to solve this problem, because now that Moto Guzzi is making beautiful bikes with the latest models, and one of the first things they should do is to strengthen the network of workshops and dealers abroad. (sorry for my google translate) bye, see you soon
Thanks for your comment. I will ride down there one day. I've been to Riva Del Garda, so not quite as far as Como. If Piaggio would just sort out the rubbish dealer network, and parts availability, we'd all be a lot happier I think. Hey, maybe I should come to Italy to get my next service :-)
So, you are the lucky one living there. I live in the Netherlands and I really have experienced a good network when it comes to spare parts and support. I do most of work on both of my Guzzi’s myself and never had to wait for more than 5 days for spare parts. Visiting the Mandello area is absolutely a treat, and so, in my point of view is the Guzzi as well.
Thanks for the sympathy - sometimes I feel we deserved it, sorry. The MG dealer and the associated service leaves a lot to be desired here as well. It's not easy to get around them because of the warranty, and MG is a very rare brand, there are not many service stations that deal with them. After two Breva 1000's I am the proud owner of a TT85 for 3 years and I am very happy with the bike, just not with the service...
Not sure where you live but it sounds like you're OK to travel. I've been using Frasers Motorcycles in Gloucester (not a great area, but a great dealership) they recently became a Guzzi dealer which got me my first Guzzi ride and purchase. I'm servicing all my bikes myself but Rachel and Neal are fantastic and look after everyone like old friends. Highly recommended. I can't stand bad dealerships any more than bad insurance companies. Hope it helps.
Many thanks - they're definitely a possibility for the next service or if I need any work done. Travel wise they're not too bad for me. I live in hope that I find a decent dealership one of these days!!
Great review, thank you! Since I've got this bike on my shortlist getting a piece of honest information from someone who has owned the motorcycle for quite a while is very helpful.
Great review, EXACTLY what I’d say about mine after 15 months of ownership and 5,000 miles(19 plate nearly new when purchased with 1,500 miles). Both the oil pressure and oil temp sensors failed within 2 months which is a common fault and were replaced under warranty with upgraded sensors. I’ve had lots of various bikes/marques in my 40 years of riding but my first ever Guzzi and I love it. All your comments replicate my thoughts even down to the Wheels/tyres but as you say, it’s a psychological thing as in reality I’ve only ever had two plugged tyres in 40 years and probably 1 or two punctures many years ago. SO, an excellent review, keep em coming. Mine is the Evocative red/white/yellow model.
Hey, thank you - comments like yours make the hassle of making these videos worthwhile - much appreciated! Sounds like you've got the McDonald's colour scheme, rather than the KFC ;-) So far I've not had any sensor issues, but I'm prepared for that red warning to appear one of these days...!
I really liked the truthful assessment of your V85TT, and your comments on the poor dealership after-purchase issues. 100% correct is your comment that for the money we spend on these things, we shouldn't have to fight with a dealer, or the manufacturer, to make stock parts work and not fall off within the first 5k miles. Also sounds like whoever set up the dealership, didn't do a proper job of training the mechanics, especially if they can't figure out how to reset a service switch.
Hi, thanks for commenting. I'm going to try dealer number 3 for a service in a couple of weeks - wish me luck! At least I get to stay in a glorious Travelodge 😂
I love this bike, it´s characterful, it´s simple, the engine and the cardan drive is great, the range ist perfect and the look is fantastic. I own an other Guzzi and a Ducati an had many bikes before, but the V85 tt is a buddy for long distances and for every day.
Oct 24 Well done sir, over the last couple of months I’ve been looking into Moto Guzzi ownership, various models, and you review has been the best I’ve come across and that is Out Of probably a couple of dozen by now. So well done!! 👍😄
Interesting review. I bought a 2021 Travel and covered 7,000 miles on it so far and love it. It's the least powerful bike I've ever owned (Blackbird and Explorer were the previous two) but I have more fun on it than any of the others. It was a no-brainer once they fitted tubeless tyres as the tubed tyres on the first models were putting me off, a roadside rear puncture repaired in ten minutes at the roadside with a Dynaplug a few weeks ago proved to me the wisdom of the upgrade. Five engine modes but it lives in sport mode to be honest, I don't think I've used any of the others. Brilliant bike in my opinion ! 🙂
I'll do my best even though it's been a wile since the last one. I am trying to find the time to edit up a few more - got plenty of ideas still not just bike related but, well, life. Cheers!
Thanks for that review, my wife and I bought a pair of V85TT's in May this year, similar issues with dealer as yourself, service light came on 30 miles after we left the dealer on both (we took them in at just under 900 miles) now done almost 6000 miles (2 Euro trips racked the miles up) The tyre pressure app on mine (the travel) is a complete waste of time, the garage I feel never took us seriously after my wifes bike started leaking from the diff after 400 miles (it sorted itself) So I think all Guzzi dealers (in fact most dealers) cant be arsed looking after customers! The plus side we love them, brilliant bikes made by the guys at Mandello but let down by the dealer network and ultimately Piaggio . We will make a similar video soon when we get round to it, thanks!
There seems to be a common theme that we all love these bikes, DESPITE the best efforts of the dealers to ruin the ownership experience :-/ Sounds like you've been having a great time though :-)
Great review, we took one of these out on test the other day from probably the first dealer you were on about... North wales? We were very impressed with the bike that for me has come in under the radar. Only really took it out after many conversations with the salesman and him knowing the bikes I've owned in the past, persuaded us the try it. What a fantastic machine. It's great to see honest reviews like yours, some time after buying to see if your still happy and to find out the glitches. Thanks for this. Our next bike I reckon.
Yeeeesss.. I didn't name and shame the dealers because they generally are well regarded - I just seem to have bad luck. I also test rode a V7 from that same dealer in the past too. Hope you enjoy your next bike, whatever it is.
An absolutely word perfect review of a bike that I fancy buying. Thank you 👍 I quite probably will go for one now that I have listened to and watched your carefully crafted video. Well done indeed. 🙂
Excellent video and I agree with pretty much all your comments. I own a 2021 Centenario which has now done 8k miles including a recent 5k mile trip to Italy and Greece. I've used two different dealerships - one local who we're rubbish... the other Arnolds Motorcycles at Leicester who are very good and they will continue to get my money.
Thanks for this review. I've had my V85 tt for just over a year, and I'm pretty much in agreement with your views. I love it, love it. Just had a centre stand fitted, after it fell over after I'd parked it not too intelligently on a gradient in the rain. Fortunately the only damage was to one of the hand guards.
Hi, glad to hear you're enjoying the bike. Yes I had the centre stand fitted when I bought the bike (as I did when I had my V7). Even without chain maintenance, they're just too useful I think. At least you didn't damage too much when it fell over. Many years ago I parked a BMW K100RS on a slope with the engine running and it slid backwards and topped over downhill.. THAT was an expensive mistake!! (I can laugh about it now... mostly 😂)
That’s a great little, honest, articulate and thought provoking vlog on the V85TT; thanks for sharing. I currently have a Le Mans3 and a T3….plan being to sell the T3 and get a TT. Nothing puts me off Guzzis; they’re in the blood. But…..the real fly in the ointment, as you rightly allude to is the problem with dealers and their average/inconsistent service. I tend to do my own serving but anything major I would use Nigel Billingsley at NBS in Staffordshire - he’s well known in the world of Moto Guzzis. If I were to get a TT this summer, I’d definitely fit the front & rear mudguards and the accessories bat behind the screen. I also like Fiamm horns!
I always enjoy hearing from actual owners of these bikes. I am test riding one soon as I am after an adventure bike and have a bit of a soft spot for the Moto Guzzi brand ( I have owned my Griso for almost 8 years now).
I for one enjoy your videos. Notwithstanding we have a shared love of tea and biscuits, but I really appreciate your honest, no BS approach to reviewing the bike and issues around it. The main thing is you are happy with the V85 and that’s all that matters. Bike ownership is a very subjective creature I find. We buy with our heart as much as with our head, maybe more so the former. One man’s Jaffa cake is another mans chocolate & orange biscuit (God help us) . Maybe the new V100 Mandello would be a tempter for you if you are happy to stick with the MG brand ? I believe this is a more sport tourerish orientated machine and has tubeless tyres. Need to sort out their dealer network though if they are ever going to make any sort of market share in this sector, despite having the USP of pretty much the only range of mid sized, shaft driven, machines. Appalling service you received. I’m only surprised they didn’t decide to blame their doings (being more cowboyish than Wyatt Earp) on the Kung-Flu or f@&king Brexit. Got to go now - there’s a couple of chocolate hob nobs and a mug of brew with my name on it. 👏
Mmmm, biscuits... Yes, the dealer situation is very annoying as they have kind of a unique product I'd say. They do make it hard to love the brand though! When has a vehicle dealer EVER owned up to anything? Sigh.
Thanks for this review. Iam looking at buying one used for next season . Quite impressed with all the general feedback with this bike, everyone who rides one seems to love it..
Hi, thanks. On paper there are much better bikes available. But... there's something about the V85TT that keeps us riding them, despite Piaggio's best efforts to alienate their customers! ;-)
I bought my 2020 used (4500 miles) in the western US with the intent of shipping to EU for a half year tour, knowing their dealer network was better. I also ‘hate’ my local eurosport dealer who pushes BMW, Triumph and Enfield and looks at its Italian bike lines as necessary evils. Love the bike, did have a fuel-air mix issue that could not be researched on-line because Guzzi keeps a lot of specks in a shroud of secrecy, but I found a master tech nearby that adjusted something in or about the tank and magically solved it. Love the bike. Ergo is slightly scrunched at 6’3” and 235 lb, but still comfortable. The hip driving seat bump is actually a godsend for making you sit upright and preserving your disk alignment which makes the handlebar rise perfect for my longish arms. I know TMI. Anyway, thanks for a comforting review of my little scrambler ( I also got a deal on a 2017 California 1400 with 1500 miles which I keep on the east coast for summer cruising - now that has beautiful ergo!)
Yeah a lot of the dealers here are multi franchise - I guess it's the only way to make money, and Guzzi sales are small compared to other brands, so they are always a bit of an afterthought perhaps. I can't decide if Piaggio are saving Guzzi or dooming them!
love your honesty, and as always I agree with you. I have just taken ownership of v85tt 2022 with tubeless tyres. Please keep the content coming. Best regards Steve from Lake Macquarie NSW Australia.
That is a beautiful bike. Your report was packed with useful information. I'm sorry to learn that you've had service and support problems. That is a concern for me in Central California, where there is limited Guzzi representation. The best service/support bets here are with other, more common Japanese or American brands. Keep the shiny side up!
Cheers, and you. I still have a fantasy of shipping my bike over to the US of A one day for a road trip. I find myself wanting to follow Robert Pirsig's route - if only because it's there... also it would take me back through Montana again. 👍
Some garages really suck, had very similar problems with my local Suzuki dealer. (200 MILE ROUND trip). I've returned to a bike I can do most of the servicing on, saves me the stress of checking there work. My mate is thinking about a v85tt, I'll pass on your channel to him, then you'll have two more viewers. Thanks for the review, safe riding.
That's a shame, I'd have hoped the Japanese brands would have a better dealer network. I'll probably get at least one more main dealer service (in case there are any more software updates). After that I may well do it myself - we'll see I guess, whether I actually manage to find a main dealer that is any good. Thanks for recommending the channel. I will pull my finger out and try to make some more videos soon!
I enjoyed watching your video and appreciate the effort. I myself own the travel model for a year already , with 15,000 km. I agree with all your conclusions except the matter of your local dealer
Thanks for the update. Totally agree with the dealer issues. I’m 4 hours one way from the dealer I bought the bike from (2021 travel) , so I decided to take it back for the first service. Somehow during the software update the cruise control was partially screwed up. Made a later appointment to fix issue. The issue was not resolved, dealer said I would have to bring it back and was told they didn’t know how long it would take. Marvelous! Other than the created issues
My dealer is 3.5 hours away. I've done everything myself with the help of UA-cam. Engine runs better with the first valve adjustment, new oils in all 3 places, new air filter, and spark plugs that were black after 1000 miles, probably from the poor initial valve adjustment.
That sucks, it sounds familiar - you must be on one of the FB groups I guess. Mine had a software update, which luckily didn't break anything. Dealers seem to think you can drop everything and take endless time off work to deal with their f*ckups...
Someone mentioned Arnold’s in Leicester. I’ve used their Burton on Trent branch for a Yamaha and they were good. Very close to changing to a V85 TT and will be using them. Thanks for posting 👍🏻
Yes my tank cover blow off quite dramatically. I had to order another one. Now I’m going to buy the larger water proof version. So far I live near Cambridge so my nearest MG dealer is MotoTechniks near Stowemarket. I’m pleased with them so far. But a loooong wat from Wales.
I did my pottery apprenticeship out in Haverfordwest as a young man in 1970.. I got a 67 Bonneville in Llawhaden near by for my transportation .. I loved riding in Cardigan Pembrookshire and over to Glamorgan (another pottery village called Ewenny and my American girl friend ).. I remember wondering why there was such a dip in the road in one small village going over to Ewenny .On the way home in the dark after a day of rain I found out .. It was a ford :) Try getting an older Triumph to start with Lucas electrics that have been dowsed with water .It was two hours in the wet November rain .. I am a New Englander and a skier . I have never been as cold as I was the year I drove through the Welch winter rains and snow ... In America I got a few BMWs and loved my R80 There is a lot about the Guzzi that reminds me of that bike .. Thanks for the ride along ..Yours Guy
Hi Guy, thanks for your comment. Ah, good old Joseph Lucas, the prince of darkness ;-) There is something special about British winter weather - I think it's the damp that makes it feel colder than it really is. My first winter I ever had a bike I rode through the snow... also a hail storm that basically settled in my lap. That was... chilly :-D
Great review MV. I’ve covered over 3000 miles in 3 months and niggles are: thumb not long enough to reach computer toggle switch without releasing throttle, filling up pain in the arse always spill some fuel, gear change indicator annoys me when doesn’t show what gear you are in, retains water in nooks and crannies after washing, I know being pedantic now. Had the blocked breather/overfilled rear drive issue. Rear wheel is a piece of piss to remove compared with V7. Rest all good and it’s a keeper even though I share your tube anxiety.
I don't have any issue with the mode button, but that bl**dy light switch... grr! The gear change indicator doesn't bother me, but I heard they improved or maybe sorted it out on newer bikes? Argh I know what you mean about water retention(!). I bought myself a cheapo 'pet dryer' from The Internet, and it is worth it to dry the bike in the winter to try to keep the rust at bay (or slow it down, at least!). I will definitely keep an eye on the rear drive for any signs of incontinence...! Good to gear that the rear wheel is easy to get out. Should make life easier when getting new tyres for sure.
Great review, the only thing I'd add is the heat thrown off by the cat can be uncomfortable in warm weather. I fixed that by fitting a Y-pipe and I now get a gentle warming draught over both feet :) Re. trustworthy dealers, MSC in Nottingham are good but they're a fair trek from Wales... More a traditional bike/scooter shop than a modern glitzy showroom.
Ta muchly. Yes I've heard about the hot cat too. Hasn't caused a problem for me - but I've also not been out riding in the current 30+ degree heat. I'd quite like to change the exhaust to shave off some weight. Although probably eating fewer pork pies would be a cheaper, more effective option too 😀 At this point I'd take a day trip to Nottingham to find a decent dealer! I think I bought my engine bars from MSC, actually. 👍
great review although pity you could not be more specific about the dealers names - I can guess the North Wales one though as there is only 1!! Been a while since I had a Guzzi (breva 1100 followed by a Griso) and I got fed up with the little niggles like sensors failing etc and finding a trusted dealer nearby. The best I dealt with was Moto Strada in Yorkshire as the owner Jason is Guzzi nut and nothing he does not know about them, But as I moved back to Wales it became harder to pop across there. I have had mixed experiences with another one who is in Worcester but thats another story..........Very tempted by the V85...
Hi, yes I decided not to name, but it's not too difficult to work them out and I'll tell people if they really want to know. However they are (or were) well regarded and recommended to me - so hopefully my experiences are not common... but they ARE my experiences. Sigh. I might try Cwmbran or Gloucester next. If I have a bad experience again I'm off to get a nice little Honda!!
Thanks for the video. I really fancy one of these. I've got a Himalayan at the moment. Also in Wales and having similar issues with a certain Guzzi/Enfield dealer in South Wales...
I thought about a Himalayan - decided I wanted something a bit more substantial though. Not sure where the enfield service centres are in Wales. Still not decided where to try and take the V85 for its next service. There's a good dealer in Scotland apparently 😀
Really enjoying my 2021 Centenario, have put 3500 miles on it in 4 months, love it’s simplicity as my first Guzzi and the shaft drive for winter use is a big plus, yes the V100 looks great in the pictures, look forward to test riding it but strangely hoping it doesn’t fit me or my needs and stick with the V85 or if I love the V100 will have to catch my wife on a good day and hope I can add another bike😊
Ha ha, I'm not convinced by the exhaust routing, but I'm sure it'll be a good bike. Here's hoping it doesn't fit you ;-) Sadly I only have room for one bike these days.
The V100s, I own one and the V7 850 model ten also, is hyper aggressive to ALWAYS want to rev. May as well say DUCATI on the tank. But, if that's your thing you'll love it. I'm considering trading it for a 2024 TRAVEL! I just love the air cooled mills power and drive-line smoothness. My V7 850 is wonderful to ride but smaller for long trips. I took a STRADA model for a 100 mile test ride while my V7 850 was servived (6200 miles) and WOW, is it ever comfortable and easy to ride. Plenty of power. It is like the best of the V100S and the V7 850 in one bike. The V85 would be a great single bike but I can't let go of the V7 850 model 10, therapy to just look at it. The V100S may go bye-bye.
Great review thanks. We have a couple on our blood bike fleet. For me I like them but others not so keen due t9 seat height and engine at Tickover. It’s on my watch list for replacing my RT. I have a Himalayan and it felt like that on steroids !
I think you might be somewhat to the east of me... 👍 I've just re-started riding for blood bikes again after a hiatus of, er, 15+ years. Preferred my V85 over the Tiger we have, but still haven't ridden the R1250RT yet. I think that might be nice for the winter!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I've had similar experiences with non Guzzi dealerships, you'd think with a diminishing customer base they'd be bending over backwards to provide a good experience 🤷
Nice and honest review. This bike is one of the options I'm considering for my next bike. I own a 2010 f800 st and is time to change. I have to decide between f900 xr , this Guzzi or the mighty yamaha t700. Cheers from Portugal
@@jfro5867 This is the problem - both the dealers I used get rave reviews, but I wasn't impressed. All I want is them to do the job well & with some honesty. Hey ho.
You have to admit a great dealership and their support means everything. Here in the USA most Italian brands other than Ducati are afterthoughts and mixed in with 10 other brands. A dedicated Italian dealership here is rare but they are around. I have learned if you have a great bike but horrible support you may not ever buy another again based on that reason. I have sold and traded in bikes based solely on my horrible dealership experiences....
My view is always that mistakes happen, but it is how they deal with them that makes the difference. Nowadays I vote with my wallet and walk away, never to return if I have a bad experience. The other side of the coin is I will be loyal if the experience is good. The problem with Guzzi is that there aren't many dealers to choose from. I have noticed a lot more multi-franchise dealers here in the UK over the last few years. I guess they can't survive on one brand any more. (Or some brands are offering better terms perhaps).
Moto Guzzi ruined their US market by doing business with very poor importer/distributor networks. For 25 years most of their good dealers gave up the line do to poor parts supplies and way too long of wait to get the bikes that their customer ordered.
@@jamesschneider3828 In the Southwest at least they have gotten much better... I believe.... still not as good as Ducati . ( even in Italy when I lived there the dealers left a lot to desire ! ) The Guzzi dealers near me Tucson Az, El Paso TX.....
Bike seal worked on my V85 TT pulled nail out and got me home 50 MLS only lost couple of psi l can highly recommend the only dealer here in Scotland great service no quibble warranty issues
Hi that's good to hear - do you have tubed or tubeless tyres? I've used SLIME before in bicycles with good results. BikeSeal seemed to be a good product so that's why I tried it. Perhaps I should time a trip up to Scotland for my next service then - not that you need excuses to ride there any time 🙂
I'm not sure it is, or at least not on my model here in the UK - I had to pay to have it fitted. It SHOULD be standard for sure, maybe it is on some of the other models now 🤔
Very happy with my 2019, other than engine protector bars, Givi top box and an cell phone mount, only complaint is the MIA. Instead of their own navigation they should just have Android Auto / Apple Car Play for navigation. Lambda sensor gave up at 11,000kms, replaced under warranty, no further trouble.
I know, right? Would be MUCH better if you could use a different nav app. Especially as they have the cheek to charge after the first year or two, and the HERE mapping it is based on is available for free. Grrr. Mine is out of warranty now, I expect I'll have to sort any faults out myself as there's no nearby dealer for me.
Informative review - i think this particular model has most of the balance right - the 850 motor is sweet and more than sufficient - dealerships/manufacturers as you say for anything , cars included are not particularly good - but there are as always good and bad
Hi, many thanks. I've ridden bikes with far more power, but the V85 is a far more relaxed ride and suits me nowadays. Shame dealers are so crap. I once wrote to Fiat, congratulating them on their sales being so good that they clearly didn't need to have any repeat customers due to their terrible local dealers and customer service. Didn't hear back, didn't ever buy another Fiat ;-)
Thank you, i enjoyed your video. I'm considering the TT85 as a move up to a larger bike. Do you think a passenger would be comfortable? Do you think you could do oil changes on your own? I'll look at other videos as well, just thought I'd ask your opinion.
Hi, I never took a pillion but the seat is fairly large and padded so I am sure most people would be OK. Depends how large you and your passenger are, of course. It won't be as comfy as a goldwing, but will be a lot better than a 125... You'd want to crank up the rear shock preload of course, and remember it's not a 150bhp bike so don't expect to be travelling everywhere at max speed. Home servicing should be quite easy - though there are 3 different oils to change (engine, gearbox and final drive). So as long as you can source the correct oil and filters wherever you are, you should be ok. Check out the owners clubs/forums as well for tips and tricks.
I own a V9 I had a very bad experience with the shop that I originally bought it off. I now go an extra 160 mile round trip to get my guzzi serviced. I love my V9 I think it is a great bike. I think Moto Guzzi need to tighten up on there after sale service because they are basically a brilliant concept. And the deserve to be way more popular and sell many more than they are.
Yeah that sucks. I actually considered a V9, but kinda hated the way the tank looks (yes I am that shallow sometimes :-D ). So went for the V7III. As I recall people started fitting the V7 tanks to the V9 to get the extra capacity though. Both Guzzi's I've owned have been great bikes (for different reasons). It's the dealers that let them down for sure.
Hello - after watching your videos (and a few others) I've put the V85tt on my shortlist of bikes to potentially replace my very nice but modest performance Himalayan. Problem is there are no bikes for sale anywhere close to where I live so I am wondering if you would be happy for me to come to have a look at your and try the seating position to see if it's worth me travelling a longer distance to actually buy one. Btw like you I live in Wales. Regards Mike Downing
Hi Mike, sadly I no longer own the bike as mentioned in a recent video. Depending where you live in Wales I'd suggest trying to find one for sale and going to have a sit on it... maybe not at Completely Motorbikes though, eh... :-/ Good luck!
I am one of the three of us, and thanks for your straightforward review. The dealer network is indeed the biggest concern for me in western Canada. The pandemic killed my local dealer, who handled BMW, Guzzi, Triumph, Ducati and Aprillia. Other local dealers have since picked up BMW, Ducati and Triumph, but not MG or Aprillia. I am 400kms from a dealer in either Calgary or Vancouver, over high mountain passes in either direction. I am moving south soon, so this bike may be a viable choice then. It sure is a handsome steed, to be sure!
Great video, great info. A few months ago, I bought a 2016 V7ii Stone with 3,000 miles on it. The cold engine does need to run for a couple of minutes before setting off. I also have a small issue when starting up a hot engine. After it's been sitting for a short while, It feels like a carburetted engine running rich. Since there are no carbs, l'll probably just have to live with it.
I don't remember having the hot engine issue with my V7III. I don't think there's much difference with the newer engines is there? I guess they tweaked the electronics to meet newer emissions regs, and maybe dialled that out? (Or you live in a much hotter place than the UK!)
@@MultiVogon pretty hot this week in New England, USA, 88°F / 31°C. I thought it was ECU or a sensor, but now suspect emissions plumbing. I caught a faint whiff of gasoline when it was parked in the sun.
Good video, mate, extremely informative. Thanks! I am a prospective buyer of one of these. I have a dealer about 1km away from my house which would be quite convenient. I just worry I might get bored with this bike in time, coming from a 2000 Honda CBR900RR. I do feel like changing the type of bike but it might be a less radical change getting me a more powerful adventure bike.
Well they're completely different bikes to a CBR, that's for sure! If you feel the need for speed... hmm an air-coolled twin cylinder pushrod engine with a dry clutch and a shaft drive is never going to set the tarmac on fire ;-) (Unless it has a catastrophic fuel leak, I guess!) Good like, it's a nice dilemma to have at least!!
@@MultiVogon Indeed... it would be quite a change. But I bought the CBR when I was 30 and I am now 52 😉 and getting too old for it, at least as an everyday bike . Thanks.
Good review 👍, I have a 2020 model, 12000km, I have put on tubeless rims on it and I am quite happy with the bike, lot's of soul, character, Guzzi vibs, and it's a bike I feel connected to when I ride it, but as you, we are having trouble with the dealership in DK, since I bought the bike we are a down to one authorized dealer in DK and he is in Copenhagen 330km from me🤔 that means I have to drop the last 2 years of warranty on the bike. But the bike has been flawless til now so hopefully it won't be a problem. But the poor dealership net in general makes me consider a "Japanese" bike number 2 for the long touring rides up north, where I don't want to be stranded whiteout support for hundreds of km🤨.... witch is to bad for a otherwise good bike that deserves better 👍
The screen issue is a problem for most adventure bikes I think. Certainly is for my Tiger 800. It’s much better on a naked bike. I am contemplating a short screen.
Yeah, I don't think it is unique to the V85. There are so many factors that could cause an issue for some people and not others. I am definitely considering a smaller screen. Did think about the Powerbronze Power Blade, but at £200 that's a lot of notes just to risk it being no better!
Sorry about the dealer issues. I had a 21 V85 that I really liked except for the seat. But that was only a personal gripe because I just prefer the flat seats where it's easier to move around. Really liked the look and ride with no major complaints. I just tend to do more off road and the Aprilia Tuareg called my name. I still love the simplicity and look of the Guzzi. I do miss the lack of engine heat too with the MG. It always ran cool for me even with its cylinders almost touching your knees. The Tuareg can toast bread and cook eggs with all of its ridiculous heat. Nothing is perfect. Blaze on.
my tuareg is in service and gave me moto guzzi v85tt as a complementary bike, + comfy seat, shaft smooth acceleration, easy gearshifts very nice, and ran cool, - is weight , vibrations at standstill and bike lurches on the left when applying throttle..... but tuareg is effin furnace
@@baklcdcvdfv3434r4 Yeah Bojan a furnace for sure. I've never had a bike that rides so hot. Hopefully some day replacing the catalytic converter and exhaust will mitigate the heat? Have fun on the Guzzi. Love the shaft drive
Ha ha yes my Ducati used to roast my meat 'n' two veg in slow traffic. No such issues on the guzzi! I wouldn't choose a V85 if I was going to do a lot of off-roading. I think they're a great all-round bike that can manage off road, rather than a bike designed to go off road all the time 👍
Great review. Same issue... lack of dealer network. I currently ride a F850GS but I love the simplicity of the V85TT with shaft drive, air cooling and a bit lower ride height. The only thing other than tubeless tires would be self-canceling turn signals. I was surprised or more accurately, shocked that even the 2022 model does not have self-canceling turn signals when my 2019 BMW has them and work flawlessly.
They do actually self cancel - but they take a weirdly long time to do it. I've just checked the manual and it's 40 seconds / 500m whichever is first. It's the exact opposite on the Tiger I've been riding recently - the bloody things cancel after about 3 flashes (think it has a clever switch - but it is too clever for me!)
@@MultiVogon I test rode one and the dealer apparently did not know that. They told me as well that the turn signals don't cancel. Good to know that they do cancel, eventually.
Is he warranty dependent upon having it serviced by an authorised dealer? If not, do you feel confident servicing it yourself. This is a beautiful machine, a great choice and worth looking after. Many thanks for a thoroughly objective review.
Hi, unless things have changed recently, I'm pretty sure here in the UK that you don't have to get a vehicle serviced by a dealer, as long as it is serviced to the manufacturers specifications. Of course nobody but the main dealer has the piaggio software for doing updates etc. I may well take over the servicing myself at some point - I don't think there's anything particularly complicated to do on the V85 as long as you can get the oil, filters, plugs etc from somewhere. Glad you liked the review - many thanks!
hello ive got one of these and love it, just asking about the sat nav and bracket set up have, where and what model is that ? Great Video Many Thanks ✌ ps, All Bikes Rochdale have a fantastic mechanic, super methodical and up to date, definitely recommend
Hi, thanks for the recommendation of the dealer. I've tried 3 now and had a bad experience at all of them, so I am still searching for somewhere that does a good job! The Satnav is a tomtom rider 500 (I think). The mounting bracket is from Gimpo Garage: www.gimpogarage.de/epages/81379202.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/81379202/Products/GPSHV85-15 and I also got the 'freeclamps' to mount the tomtom to it. It has been rock solid so far. If they're out of stock, drop them an email and they'll let you know when stock is available again.
@@MultiVogon many thanks, will do. Had a oil pressure light on after 5k , rang All Bikes Rochdale booked in the next week, mechanic tested it and ordered the new sensor there and then ( it will take a while from Italy!)
Great video and round up, but no mention of egg? I'll be venturing down to south wales, from Edinburgh, in the next few weeks, have to visit my mother, and I'll be riding down, avoiding as many motorways as possible and going down through Wales. So if you can recommend somehwere that does a nice cup of tea and an egg sandwich I would much appreciate it.
Ha, I did think of it, but the vid was already 3 months late so it was a case of 'send it'. Look out for more eggcelent cameos in future vids maybe ;-) Crumbs must be loads of places - though the classic is an 'Egg Banjo' for reasons that make sense when you attempt to eat one 😀 Bala is good for a stop off if you're going that way - I tend to go to the leisure centre near the lake as it is usually quieter than the town. Then there's the Owls Nest at Llandovery which is a popular biker hangout nowadays too. Oh, if you're coming from the north there's the Old Stores Bike Cafe near Pontblyddyn - I've passed it loads but never been in to see what it's like. Then there's the classic Ponderosa on the Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen. Oh, just remembered there is/was a good greasy spoon in Ruthin, next to Moto-R - not been that way for a while though.. Hmm, then there's the Red Kite cafe on the A44 to Aberystwyth. Oh, the Seasons Cafe near caersws is meant to be good - keep meaning to stop there too when passing. Right last one - the Express cafe by the petrol station at crossgates near Rhyader is in the middle of biker country too... oh there's good cafe or two in Rhyader and.. and... Hmm.. the fact my leathers appear to have shrunk in the wardrobe is starting to make more sense now..... sigh 😀
@@MultiVogon thanks for all those recommendations, you really went the eggstra mile. I'll be cutting across from the M6 and then down. I drove up in January, it was stunning but I can't remember which road I took now. I'll have to check it out. I just hope it's not boiling as I'll get fried in my jacket, then it'll be a scramble to poach some cold water somehwere!
Wow, that's VERY uncool about the hinge pins. If that is a known recall then Guzzi should be supplying and fitting the pins for free. Why do you even need to go to the dealer for service? Is the service light not resettable by the home mechanic? These bikes are so simple, unless I was dealing with a recall or maybe the first service, I don't think I'd ever have it in a shop. I do all my own valves, tires, etc. I do understand some people don't like wrenching though.
Hi, I don't believe it was an official recall per-se, more an issue that was fixed in later bikes if that makes sense? Either way, you're right - shitty move by the dealer to sneak the charge onto the bill. The dealer went bust a few months later... The main reason I use dealers is for warranty reasons (though guzzi dealers seem to cause more problems than they fix, in my experience, sadly). You don't HAVE to do this in the UK though. The other reason is modern bikes get software updates just like your computer. This bike has had a number of bugs fixed with dealer updates. Also I've just and another service and apparently there's a new fuel map to improve things too (not that I noticed any issues with my bike). Finally, no you can't reset the service indicator yourself. You can thank Piaggio for that one. Lots of stuff needs the PADS tool. At the time of writing I don't believe that GuzziDiag can do it - but hopefully one day they find a way. As it happens the service spanner is very unobtrusive and it has spent more time on than off since I've had the bike. I find it very easy to ignore now (unlike, say, a triumph tiger that starts flashing angry warning triangles at you). Once of the reasons I got this bike is for the comparative simplicity compared to some other modern bikes. So I agree, a lot of the basic maintenance is fairly easy to do - and I plan to do more of it as the bike gets older (it is out of warranty now anyway, and probably won't have software updates for much longer).
Curious to how long between your service on your bike. I just bought the 2020 V85tt it’s the red frame yellow and white tank bike with rear and side pannier boxes and I really like these with the room they have and the locks on them , got it for $12 k US dollars and only had 129 miles on it. I’ve logged just over 200 miles myself on this bike and really loving the feel and performance though I’ve yet to venture off road or traverse through foul weather yet . I’m sorry your were shit on by your local dealer . Hope I don’t have such experience come time for my v85 service . Great video , enjoyed it ! Greetings from America ✌️🇺🇸
Greetings! The first service was at whatever it said (600? 900? miles) not long after I got the bike. The second one was about a year later - a bit early for the mileage but the valves apparently did need adjusting so worth doing. I typically get a bike serviced once a year regardless of mileage. Good luck - hope you find a decent dealer! 👍
If I had the money and space, I'd have kept the V7 for those sunny sunday bimbles around the hills - great bike for that. I did fit panniers to my V7 (hepco-becker c-bow) and I went camping on it once or twice, but the V85 is definitely a better load lugger if that's what you need.
@@MultiVogon I also had the c-bow panniers on my V-7 but still wasnt happy. So I visited the dealer and he made me a awsome deal and I rode home on a left over but brand new 2022 V85TT!! I absolutly love this bike, it handels and rides so good, its everything I wanted.
Where did you find screws for the TT online? My workshop managed to loose a few at last service... Oh and the back break bracket broke from wrong mounting after they changed the tire, and hand guard wasn't tightened after mounting heated grips. So now I have a 7 hour ride to my closest workshop. Rather than 30 minutes.
Well that's a bit crap, isn't it. We pay these companies an arm and a leg and trust them to do a good job, and then you get that happening... grr. Not sure if you're in the UK, but I searched for the part number that I got from the parts list - AP8152267. I got mine from here, but they appear to have sold out now unfortunately: www.harglo-performance.com/aprilia-hex-socket-pan-head-screw-m5x12-ap8152267-21884-p.asp Good luck!
Great review thanks, I’ve just ordered the workshop manual and I’m going to do all the servicing on my bike, it’s a relatively simple machine, so do you not fancy doing your own due to poor dealers etc
I had the full workshop manual for my Ducati and that was really useful. If I can get one for the Guzzi I will certainly be likely to do interim services myself once the warranty has run out *checks* oh, the warranty HAS run out. Hmm where did you get the manual from, out of interest? !
I'd have loved to try one of these... but after being ignored by one dealer and having another tell me I could only test one for a few minutes on a dry day ( and Guzzi UK ignoring my emails) I bought a Yamaha Super Tenere instead. I just won't buy a bike I've not ridden. Maybe I'll get a used one at some point.
Yeah that sucks, and I completely understand - I nearly did the same. I've no idea why there are ANY 'contact us' type sections on the Guzzi website, as I've never had a response either! I assume they're selling thousands of bikes a day and don't need the business.... /s
@@MultiVogon , thanks. I ended up bundling the Givi one with an order from Italy to get the most out of the shipping cost. Getting to my door for overall less $$$ than buying from vendors in the states.
Yeah a few people seem to think they are worth it. I don't really have any fuelling issues that I feel need fixing on my bike though. Might be worth it if I ever change the exhaust? 🤔
Sounds like you really enjoying the bike, nice one. That is out of order from the dealer, they are so short sighted and now they lost all of your business, hell mend them. Car dealers are worse, I was looking to buy a new car recently and had priced the car up, when they produced the paper work they added £300 for admin, fuel and a donation to charity (I kid you not), well they lost that business. Blinking highway robbery.
Yeah, why is it so hard for them to behave honestly? I too know people who have walked (cash in hand) when they have been f*cked around like that. I would do the same for sure.
Seriously looking at one of these so your honest review was appreciated. My dealer here in the USA is about an hour away. Currently riding a 1996 GS 1100 with 131000 miles on it. Thanks again and safe travels
Hi, thanks, glad you enjoyed. I did think long and hard about whether to name and shame or not. There are clues in there to the dealers involved for those in the know. I am conscious however that both dealers I had a bad experience with, are generally highly rated as far as I can tell... Well, one of them WAS highly rated, it may or may not have gone into administration earlier this year...
One of my pet peeves concerning the Guzzi is the fact that they don’t come with Self Canceling Turn Signals. Every previous Road bike that I owned had such a feature.
Hi the V85 does have self cancelling indicators - but they take a weirdly long time to do it. It's something like 40 seconds or 500m distance, whichever is first.
I love this moto!!!!! thanks for report. :-D
I'm Italian, and I live right on Lake Como, where Mandello del Lario is located.
Gracie
Love it when owners are totally honest about their bikes. Your videos make me more apt to buy one than a Motto Guzzi advert!
High praise indeed, many thanks 🙂
Just got mine yesterday.
3rd Guzzi, also bought it without a test drive.
Put 300 miles on it already and love it.
Great review, thank you! Since I've got this bike on my shortlist getting a piece of honest information from someone who has owned the motorcycle for quite a while is very helpful.
Hey, thanks for your comment - much appreciated

Well done sir, over the last couple of months I’ve been looking into Moto Guzzi ownership, various models, and you review has been the best I’ve come across and that is Out Of probably a couple of dozen by now. So well done!! 👍😄
Wow glad you liked it :-) They're great bikes, just with Italian quirks. The new stelvio based on the V100 looks good too if you want more power.
Likewise I have the 2022 Travel and it's the most "fun" bike I've ever owned or ridden compared to many other great legends.
Watched the entire video and i loved it, am considering a TT, and wanted to ask that you keep pumping these videos out. You have fans.
I'll do my best even though it's been a wile since the last one. I am trying to find the time to edit up a few more - got plenty of ideas still not just bike related but, well, life. Cheers!
Thanks! Glad to hear that you are happy with your bike. I am looking forward to picking mine up in a couple of weeks.
They are great bikes, hopefully you'll love it!
Great vid / info!! I get my V85TT tomorrow sooooo excited. Thanks from Seattle
Hope you enjoy it!
An absolutely word perfect review of a bike that I fancy buying. Thank you 👍 I quite probably will go for one now that I have listened to and watched your carefully crafted video. Well done indeed. 🙂
Wow high praise indeed - many thanks. Glad it was of interest. Hope you're enjoying whatever bike you ended up with!
Cheers, it looks like I'll be travelling for a few hours for the next service whichever way I end up going.
Well at least you know what you're letting yourself in for with the brand! The Griso is a nice bike. I wonder is the V100 the modern equivalent? 🤔
really good review, I guess no situation is ever going to be perfect
Thanks, glad you liked it. Nope, nothing is perfect, I like to document the niggles though ;-)
Sigh.
I currently drive a V7 III. Seriously considering that V85TT. Thanks for your thoughts. Dealership network is the issue in the US too.
I know TMI. Anyway, thanks for a comforting review of my little scrambler
( I also got a deal on a 2017 California 1400 with 1500 miles which I keep on the east coast for summer cruising - now that has beautiful ergo!)
Thanks for your efforts and keep the updates on your ownership experience coming. 👍
Really enjoyed your review ,,, a real world review, so thank you.
Always nice to hear your video and comments and tips. Dealerships make or break your experience with your motorcycle. Your fellow V85tt brother.
Maybe when there are enough of us, the dealers will start to behave better!!
@@MultiVogon A challenge I think, we stand out from the crowd because we ride a Moto Guzzi.
Nice and honest review, exactly the type I was looking for. Thanks!
Apparently fat fingered the comment. 😔 except for the created issues I still like the v85!
Cheers, good to hear. Leicester isn't [quite] a million miles from me, so might be an option. 👍
I'm seriously considering a new 85 after taking one for a spin the other day. Thanks for the video. Subscribed.
Many thanks. Did you get one? They're not for everyone but there's something about them... 😎
Good video :)
Great review. Not discouraging me to get one.
They're great bikes for sure, despite all the quirks.
Brilliant review! Appreciated.
I have a V9 and CMW Chichester have always been great and I’ve had MG, Suzuki and Ducatis from them 🤙
Nice one, thanks. I nearly bought a V9 - but in the end preferred the looks of the V7 - how shallow! 😂
Good review..thanks for posting.

That was... chilly :-D
Try Teasdale motorcycles in Thirsk
Gorgeous bike ... I want this bike!
Great review. One of the best. Thanks!
Funny, considered, and entirely useful. Nice one mate
Great review, the only thing I'd add is the heat thrown off by the cat can be uncomfortable in warm weather. I fixed that by fitting a Y-pipe and I now get a gentle warming draught over both feet :)
Re. trustworthy dealers, MSC in Nottingham are good but they're a fair trek from Wales...
Although probably eating fewer pork pies would be a cheaper, more effective option too 😀
At this point I'd take a day trip to Nottingham to find a decent dealer!
@@MultiVogon well, it's a similar story to Guzzi. I am taking it to Swindon for warranty work next week as the local outlets have been pretty rubbish.
Very helpful review, thank you. You might just have tilted the balance in my decision making towards 'buy'...
I just don't understand it. I ask for so little, and they deliver it every time!
Nice and honest review. This bike is one of the options I'm considering for my next bike. I own a 2010 f800 st and is time to change. I have to decide between f900 xr , this Guzzi or the mighty yamaha t700. Cheers from Portugal
Aprilia touareg was also a option, but dealerships have the same problem as moto guzzi...
Nice decision to have to make though! :-)
I've had good experiences on my 850 V7 with both Teasdales in Thirsk and Brighton Moto ... neither near Wales, sadly...
Funny because Teasdale's do not impress me at all. I’m ‘in between’ Guzzi’s and them being my nearest dealer does put me off TBH.
Nice video, what brand the tank bag?
Hi it was a SW Motech Daypack bag, with the PRO tank ring system (magnetic). Really nice bag - I recommend them!
Perhaps I should time a trip up to Scotland for my next service then - not that you need excuses to ride there any time 🙂
@@MultiVogon I'm using tubed rims ,Bike seal is good also because it doesn't dry up and l was able to patch it next day
Center stand is also standard on the travel...
I'm not sure it is, or at least not on my model here in the UK - I had to pay to have it fitted. It SHOULD be standard for sure, maybe it is on some of the other models now 🤔
@@MultiVogon in Holland it's part of the travel package...
Can’t wait to get one of these bikes
They are not perfect, but they are great bikes. Hopefully you'll get one soon 👍
Very good review. I have the same bike albeit a 21 euro 5 model, and would agree with pretty much all you say.
Hi, thanks for the comment. It's good to know I'm not talking complete b*ll*cks all of the time ;-)
Very happy with my 2019, other than engine protector bars, Givi top box and an cell phone mount, only complaint is the MIA.
HOLA
Gracias por tu tiempo, buen trabajo
Scooter Cafe Maidenhead - excellent supply and service
I HATE my dealer!!
PIAGGIO - WHY DO YOU HATE US SO MUCH!?!?!?
great review, is there enough pillion space ?
Hi thanks, can't help with that I'm afraid. The seat seems fairly big, so it's probably fine for most people.
Sorry to hear about your dealer issues - I think you win that one!!
Great video, great info.
A few months ago, I bought a 2016 V7ii Stone with 3,000 miles on it.
The cold engine does need to run for a couple of minutes before setting off.
I also have a small issue when starting up a hot engine. After it's been sitting for a short while,
It feels like a carburetted engine running rich.
My V7 used to sing the song of its people to me whenever it was hot - so at least I knew the tank was venting 😅
@@MultiVogon you gave me an idea. Next hot start after sitting a while, I'll crack open the filler cap & see it there's a pressure release.
Yep, my 2024 V7 STONE 850 model 10 does the hot tank vent song too. Pretty weird.
Amen to that. Yes, my head said 'go Japanese' but my heart wanted another air-cooled tractor to chuff around on!
My 1977 Yamaha XS750 had self cancelling indicators so not exactly new technology!
@@mrjoneseastend Exactly my point!
Yeah, I seem to remember my RD350 had them too, back in the day.
Loved the video, thanks
Thanks helpful
No worries. many thanks :-)
Excellent.
Is it wrong that when I read your comment, I heard it in Mr Burns's voice in my head? :-D
Thanks for the review. Hope you can find a competent ethical service center.
hello ive got one of these and love it, just asking about the sat nav and bracket set up have, where and what model is that ?
@@MultiVogon you're making me hungry!
Great review...thanks.
Glad you enjoyed my shambolic style :-D
im struggling on trading my V7 for the TT85. I really like my V7 but I want all the extra storage... so we will see. Thanks for sharing.
Try F1 Racing as well. They have all sorts of parts.
Thanks for the reality, appreciate it. Assisted in my decision to purchase a unique bike. Thank goodness dealers are better in S. California. Dave A.
Hi, glad it was useful - many thanks :-) Enjoy your new steed !
From Gutsibits
Thanks for the review. What brand GPS mount did you buy? Couldn't quite make out what you said. Just purchased a 2022 V85TT a week ago.
Hi It's from Gimpo Garage - I've added a link in the description 👍
I can highly recommend this product, it well designed and the seller is very helpful
@@MultiVogon , thanks. I ended up bundling the Givi one with an order from Italy to get the most out of the shipping cost. Getting to my door for overall less $$$ than buying from vendors in the states.
Try fitting a "booster plug " worked very well on my nc750x!
Hi, glad my bumbling amateurish efforst swere entertaining / useful :-) I wish I had a dealer so close by!! Hopefully you'll find something to suit.
12quid or not, name and shame these people, shocking imo, nice review this.
Sounds like you have some air bubbles in your brake line if you have to double pump your lever.
I plan to change the brake fluid soon, so hopefully that'll sort it out.
Thanks I’ll give it a try. Funny when I mentioned this Pet Peeve of mine to the Dealership they didn’t have a clue. lol Thanks again, hope that works.
Sadly, "Dealership" and "didn't have a clue" seem to go together like Marmite and Hovis (references specifically chosen to confuse non UK viewers 😅 )
You were correct about the turn signals. They do turn off after a while. So I either let ‘em blink or pop em on way too soon.
You can cancel them by pressing the indicator button in - but it's quite mushy and I sometimes knock it sideways and flash the other side.🙄
